Last year we tested the Prestigio MultiPad Visconte V 2-in-1 tablet, which is still regularly used in the editorial office during off-site events. Why not a budget laptop, but a tablet? Compact dimensions, long service life battery life, a level of performance sufficient for publications and printing, good screen. In the same budget, a device that combines the advantages of tablets with a touch screen and laptops with a keyboard. In 2017, Prestigio MultiPad Visconte A (PMP1014TE) was released in this series, which we will study in detail with you today.

Its sales have already started in early August with a recommended price of only 8,990 rubles. The price tag is very tempting, considering the presence of a sensor and keyboard. Below is a summary table that allows you to choose the best offer for your region, compiled based on data from the Yandex.Market service.

Prestigio Visconte A consists of two separate components: the main unit and the soft keyboard cover. You can use it both in joint mode and separately as a tablet.

Appearance of Prestigio Visconte A

This model, unlike the Prestigio Visconte V, does not have a hard keyboard block, but a soft one. More precisely, it consists of a hard base with a keyboard and a soft cover.

During transportation or storage, you can protect the display from damage. It is quite dense, the outer surface is made of rubberized fabric.

It lies steadily on a flat surface and does not slip out of your hands, but has a tendency to quickly become dirty with dust and fingerprints.

Closes with magnets. Folds along pre-prepared fold points. It stands stable, only one position is available. When assembled, a smart function is activated that puts the tablet into sleep mode.

Externally, Prestigio Visconte A makes a pleasant impression. Strict design, dark gray body. Cover made of soft-touch plastic.

The display side has a protective film applied at the factory to ensure additional protection from scratches.

Today's market electronic devices replete with gadgets for every taste and color. This also applies to tablets. And due to the fact that user needs are growing day by day, manufacturers are increasingly switching to Windows 8, thanks to which the capabilities of the device are expanding many times over. And such devices are better bought. In order not to be left out of this celebration of life, Prestigio has released its first tablet on Windows 8: Prestigio Multipad Visconte.

Let's start with the fact that I am definitely “lucky” with technology. If someone else were in my place, he would be happy with the free computers and laptops that employees are given at work. Of course, I am also happy, but somehow not completely.
The fact is that I only come across Apple equipment. Whether it's an iMac in a recording studio, a Mac Pro in a media production studio, or, as now, MacBook Pro(not retina).
In principle, you can live with a MacBook. Excellent touchpad quick start, settings at hand. But hands are reaching out to first install Windows 8.1 in Parallels Desktop, and then install a full-fledged “eight” via Boot Camp.
Habit and more than 25 years of experience working with PCs take their toll.

As many people know, Apple does not really welcome customers' desire to use Microsoft's OS on their computers. Therefore, the touchpad drivers in Boot Camp are, to put it mildly, not very good. Third party driver Trackpad++ loads about three minutes after Win8 starts. Until this time, it is simply impossible to right-click. The absence of the PageUp\PageDown, Home\End keys looks strange. We have to put up with these shortcomings.

In addition, my work requires constant travel around Moscow, both by metro and while driving. The MacBook is, of course, reliable, made of aircraft-grade aluminum. You have to carry all this metallic splendor on your shoulders. At the same time, very little is required from the computer: office applications, browser, Skype and rare sessions of working in Adobe Illustrator.
Gradually, a simple idea came to mind - I don’t need a laptop at all for work, but I need a tablet! With full-fledged Windows. With multi-touch. And to be easy. Such that it could keep company with my other home devices with OS from Microsoft: desktop, mini-server and old Samsung tablet Q1U, with resistive screen. The latter, frankly speaking, is long overdue for retirement.

Scheme of my movements around Moscow for a month

And then, just recently, the stars aligned in the most successful way: I got exactly what I was looking for. Lightweight tablet with a large screen diagonal and full multi-touch (oh, those gestures!).

Let's pretend like you don't already know what kind of tablet we're talking about?

A colleague, getting ready to go on vacation, took a brand new tablet from Prestigio for testing. It was planned to write an article about the tablet during a two-week holiday with my grandmother, in the town of Kasimov, which is located on the banks of the Oka.

It seems that this town is still living in the twentieth century

Alas, as always, I urgently need to finish semantic core for the site, add new cards to the catalogue, and the director won’t let you go. In general, he fortunately forgot the tablet in the office and went to the bus station. Of course, a colleague called us and asked us to urgently bring the tablet to the bus, but who wants to trudge to the outskirts of Moscow in such heat?

First meeting

That’s how the tablet got into my hands, tired from the weight of the MacBook. The device comes in a cardboard box painted silver and black checkered. The top part shows the device itself, the logo and name of the company, the name of the device, as well as information that the tablet has a pre-installed Microsoft Office 2013.

Our first meeting looked something like this

On the right side there is information about the operating system and the configuration.

On back side The box contains information about the device in Russian and English languages, the amount of memory, which can be 32 or 64 GB and a QR code, reading which you will be taken to the manufacturer’s website.

Unpacking the cute box

In the upper compartment there is now my (heh!) working tool, wrapped in soft polyethylene. We immediately see that the design of the tablet is quite typical and strict, but it’s not for nothing that the manufacturer positions it as a business tablet. The display of the device is covered with protective glass; there are small black edges along the edges - this is done so that the tablet is comfortable to hold and there are no false alarms.

Strict front

On the front surface, only the Windows 8 logo stands out, which is very interestingly played out in the shape of edges. The button is touch sensitive, by clicking on it you can always get to the main OS menu.

The device has a metal body, painted silver, and on its back in the center is the manufacturer’s logo and the name of the device.

Stylish rear

The package is standard, it includes: the tablet itself, a USB cable, network adapter. There is also a sticker with the serial number for Win 8 and some scrap paper (does anyone even read these instructions?):

Your documents?

By the way, the network adapter for our country is somewhat non-standard, but there is a complete adapter.

Suddenly a business trip to London comes up. So I'm ready!

And... That's it. The set is, to put it mildly, sparse. If the manufacturer had asked my opinion, he would have heard a wish to have as standard an adapter from microHDMI to a full connector and an adapter from microUSB (like my Galaxy Note 3) to a full USB (female). Alas, these “accessories” will have to be purchased separately. However, I already have them.

Let's take a closer look

The tablet is charged via a separate adapter, the plug of which, at first, I tried to connect to the tablet’s headphone jack. Subsequently, I managed to get used to the location of all the connectors of the device and now even the auxiliary inscriptions engraved on the back cover do not need to be read.

Here?

Or here?

Tablet design

The device screen is framed by a black frame. Color back cover- grey. Another option with a white lid is available on the manufacturer's website. I like the gray one. The company logo is engraved in the center of the lid.

The logo is really unusual. I always want to touch him

The edges of the lower part are occupied by stereo speakers, hidden behind perforated grilles. Some of the grids smoothly “flow” onto the side curves of the tablet. Thanks to this, the table surface on which the device lies does not completely muffle the sound. There are two small stickers in the lower right corner, but in my opinion they are out of place and spoil appearance devices.

These bars are located on the left and right

The power button can be used to turn on/off the tablet. Holding the button for more than four seconds will trigger a forced reboot. This function has not been useful to me so far. I discovered it by accident - I installed the tablet right side on the table and carelessly pressed on the body.

Power and volume buttons. There is an indicator light built into the power button.

According to the manufacturer, the tablet supports memory cards up to 64 gigabytes. Thus, if necessary, you can double the amount of available memory. On the one hand, a significant part of the built-in memory is occupied by the OS and a basic set of applications. On the other hand, I’ve been using the tablet for more than two weeks, and the free space doesn’t even think about running out. Although, perhaps, you won’t be able to download torrents enough on it. But I don’t need it. There is a separate file downloader for torrents at home. But you can now watch videos via Wi-Fi on a big screen. Windows has no problems with codec support, and never has had any.

From Galaxy charging The Note 3 tablet charges more slowly than from the “native” adapter. It's a pity. It would be convenient to carry just one charger with you instead of two.

Working with HDMI is quite predictable. If you want, display a mirror image of the tablet's desktop on the TV screen. If you want, only video, in extended mode, while you continue to work.

Memory card slot, charging connector, microUSB, microHDMI, headphone jack

All I can say about the camera is that it works adequately on Skype. Take a photo of something front camera I think tablets are stupid. That's not what it's intended for.
I spent a long time looking for where the microphone is installed in the tablet. It turned out to be right there, next to the camera. The sensitivity of the microphone allows you to communicate with your interlocutor at a distance of approximately a meter. Ideally, you should immediately enable software gain microphone signal in the OS settings and do not return to this settings item anymore.

Camera lens, light sensor and microphone

operating system

Prestigio Visconte works under Windows control 8.1 Pro. The operating system is identical to the PC version. This allows you to work with all applications available on your computer.

Except standard programs Evernote and Microsoft Office 2013 are preinstalled, which only needs to be activated.

You can use the classic desktop or use the Metro UI interface, specially designed for touch displays.

One of the most noticeable shortcomings of Windows 8.1 can be considered the list of programs optimized for the new tiled interface. It is not very large; it often lacks games, media players and other entertainment applications in the Metro UI style. However, Microsoft is not giving up its operating system and more and more new applications are appearing in the Windows Store every day.

All wireless modules they work, you can pick them up wireless keyboard or headphones.

In terms of functions, this tablet for me is, as they say, “what the doctor ordered.” A good workhorse. It does not bend in your hands, the cooler does not make noise and allows you to carry it, along with your charger and work documents, in a small briefcase with a shoulder strap. Goodbye, heavy backpack! Well, at least for the summer.

Benchmarks

The processor here is dual-core - Intel Celeron N2805, so to speak. entry level, which is characterized by reduced energy consumption. It operates at 1.46 GHz and is built on the 22nm part of the Bay Trail-M platform.

In the 3DMark test, the tablet demonstrates no high performance, however for the majority office tasks There is enough filling for the device.

I didn’t want to do benchmarks at all, because I think that if the car is moving, there is no need to open the hood while driving and see why this is happening. You just need to enjoy the ride. However, considering that my “car” is not a Rolls-Royce Phantom, but rather a Ford Focus, Kia Rio or another car more suitable as a company car, some may find the results of synthetic tests interesting.

What we have

  • OS - Windows 8.1 Pro
  • Screen size - 10 inches (anything smaller would be almost my phone)
  • HDMI - yes
  • Memory card slot - probably also useful
  • Memory capacity - 64 gigabytes
  • Multitouch - ten fingers (when you touch the screen, translucent “circles” appear under your fingers, the number of which I counted)
  • Screen resolution is the same as a working MacBook (1280x800)
  • 3G - models with mobile Internet are available
  • I have a 3G mobile phone in my bag right now. Wi-Fi router, allowing you to work from your tablet during the weekend, without getting up from your chair, in the country. Enough already, perhaps, of registering new SIM cards for new devices.

Experience of use

I don’t know what this is connected with, but Illustrator was installed on the tablet for two (!) hours.
The office is half an hour, and this is already normal. In principle, an office “for home and student education” has already been installed here, but I have an honestly purchased license for the firmware. We demolish one office and install another. There is no point in wasting useful gigabytes!
Also, I installed dropbox, Google Drive, a basic multimedia set: audio and video player, graphic file viewer and (hurray-hurray!) a full-fledged two-panel file manager, which do not exist for Mac. Or rather, there are such programs, but, I think, this is a TOTAL mockery of the user. Solid ANRIAL. It’s a shame to even compare it with its Windows counterparts.

A typical set of software for office plankton

Overall, within one evening, I became the owner of a device whose functionality completely covers all my requirements for a working tool.
Also, found in standard installation Windows game- Pinball, while playing which, several long subway trips flew by unnoticed. The screen is easy to press. Graphics - android was not nearby.

Immediately bought an additional table at the local market

The volume of the built-in speakers is excellent. However, when I tried to show a video of one of our products on a tablet to a visitor to the Robot Ball exhibition, the maximum volume level was not enough for comfortable listening. This is understandable. Every day, we, company representatives working at the exhibition who are lovers of robotics and gadgets, have music poured into our ears at such a volume that sometimes it is difficult to even make out what the person standing next to you is saying to you. This is what everyday life is like.

But writing reports, keeping tables and monitoring our website from a compact tablet is a pleasure.

Battery

The tablet is equipped with a 4000 mAh 7.4V battery (8000 mAh 3.7V). At active use The tablet lives for about 4-5 hours, but in energy saving mode it lasts about eight hours, which is very good.

Bottom line

Just for fun, I installed a trial version of Autodesk Inventor on the tablet. I will slowly learn to create 3D models for the Form 1 printer, which often sits idle in our office. Well, there must be some bonuses from working in a company that popularizes innovative gadgets on the Russian market? That's what I decided.
