On which he appeared short review new items We invite you to find out what the Microsoft Lumia 535 is.

“A win-win combination of a large colorful screen, the latest Windows Phone 8.1 s Lumia update Denim, high-quality cameras, hardware with 1 gigabyte of RAM, bright, recognizable design and the Microsoft logo on the case. But has Microsoft maintained the same high quality standard set by Nokia?

Looking ahead, we will boldly answer: “Yes!” Not only saved, but also multiplied by adding it to the smartphone entry level all the latest features and fashionable innovations, and at the same time having worked out every small detail in detail. As a result, Microsoft Lumia 535 can be safely called not only a worthy successor to last year's Nokia models, but also best Windows Phone-smartphone of the middle class. Why? Now we'll tell you...

Design, appearance

The appearance of the new product is entirely in the spirit of previous Lumia devices. Win-win bright colors, durable and reliable body and proven ergonomics. It is simply unrealistic to guess blindly that there is no Nokia logo on the body of a smartphone. All the sensations are so similar to the Nokia Lumia 630/630 DS models.

The dimensions have noticeably increased, which now amount to 140.2 x 72.4 x 8.8 mm, which is only slightly larger than the stylish new Lumia 830, which was released under the Nokia brand. With such dimensions, the smartphone fits perfectly in a medium-sized man’s hand, allowing you to perform almost any action on the go with one hand; fortunately, the new product weighs 146 grams.

When we talk about well-thought-out ergonomics, we mean really comfortable things. Microsoft Lumia 535 has fully retained the convenient side control keys and intelligently spaced connectors along the edges. On the back side, everything is also neatly placed in its place, as a result of which the device can even be confused with the Nokia Lumia 1320.

Screen

The main charm of the new product is the 5x5x5 concept, combining two five-megapixel cameras and an excellent 5” TFT-IPS screen with a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels. At first glance, the resolution is very modest, but this is only in comparison with older models. In fact, the pixel density is 220 DPI - the Lumia 630 has even a little less, so the picture is quite sharp, with bright, rich color reproduction and good behavior in the sun.

Qualcomm Snapdragon filling

Microsoft Lumia 535 faced a very difficult task: to create a budget smartphone in the mass segment that can work without problems with Windows 10 by the time of its release. That is why the smartphone is built on the proven Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 chipset with a quad-core 1.2 GHz processor, 1 GB of RAM and Adreno 302 graphics, providing a decent level of performance in most 3D games and applications. On the menu and standard applications the smartphone works very quickly - the accuracy affects Windows optimization Phone.

The rest of the characteristics are also encouraging: 8 GB of internal space + microSDXC slot, support for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and Lumia 535 variant Dual SIM with proprietary technology for simultaneous operation of two numbers.

Lumia Denim software shell

The smartphone will initially come with the latest Lumia Denim software package, offering all the features and Windows features Phone 8.1 with the first update package.

I was very pleased with the complete preservation of all the software features of Lumia smartphones in this model. Agree, it’s nice to find more than a dozen additional proprietary utilities and applications in a middle-class smartphone, including the proprietary Pro Camera with professional settings and Lumia Selfie for creating creative selfies and self-portraits. There is no point in listing the entire set of applications in Lumia Denim; to do this, we suggest that you familiarize yourself with the assortment directly in the Marketplace store:

Entertainment

With this, the Microsoft Lumia 535 is in perfect order. The large screen is perfect for leisurely browsing the Web and social networks, but it’s better to play toys or watch videos on it - HD videos are played without problems, the main thing is to guess the codecs.

Music lovers have complete freedom. High sound quality is achieved thanks to high-quality hardware and software, but the smartphone will need high-quality headphones, or a stylish mini-speaker from Coloud. There will definitely be no issues with searching for music: the smartphone connects to the PC as external drive, but it’s even more convenient to use the branded MixRadio - a huge free music service with additional privileges for 90 rubles per month.

And of course, cameras. Together with 5 inches they form the 5x5x5 concept, which allows you to shoot good photos from the main camera thanks to the Pro Camera utility, or take unusual and bright selfies thanks to the wide-angle front camera with the same 5 MP resolution. Autofocus from at least 10 cm is provided only for a portion of the main camera, but the front aperture is f/2.4, which means we will separately test the capabilities of the camera of this new product.

Nutrition

An important fact is the presence of a removable 1905 mAh battery, the charge of which will last on average for a day with a relatively active load. Average result, nothing to hide here.

Total

Microsoft managed not only to expand the range of the Lumia product line with another mid-class model, but also to set a new bar for quality and capabilities. Now everyone who wants to buy a stylish and fast smartphone on latest version Windows Phone 8.1 can safely take a closer look at the Microsoft Lumia 535. Bright appearance, excellent multimedia content, a full range of communications and good hardware with 1 GB of RAM for comfortable running of any games and applications. We highly recommend purchasing!”

Satellite navigation:

GPS(Global Positioning System - global positioning system) - satellite system navigation, providing measurement of distance, time, speed and determining the location of objects anywhere on Earth. The system is developed, implemented and operated by the US Department of Defense. The basic principle of using the system is to determine location by measuring distances to an object from points with known coordinates - satellites. The distance is calculated by the delay time of signal propagation from sending it by the satellite to receiving it by the antenna of the GPS receiver.
GLONASS(Global Navigation Satellite System) - Soviet and Russian satellite navigation system, developed by order of the USSR Ministry of Defense. The measurement principle is similar to the American GPS navigation system. GLONASS is designed for operational navigation and timing support for land, sea, air and space-based users. The main difference from the GPS system is that GLONASS satellites in their orbital motion do not have resonance (synchrony) with the rotation of the Earth, which provides them with greater stability.

Starting to write this review, I was curious, how other users reacted to this model? Having read numerous reviews, comments, reviews and news about the Lumia 535, to be honest, I was surprised. The smartphone has caused too many complaints from its owners. And I even thought, am I really so inattentive that after almost a week of using this device I did not notice the critical shortcomings in it? I like the Lumia 535! And I'll tell you why.

First impression

As they say, you meet someone by their clothes. And my acquaintance with this smartphone was no exception. Taking a large, no, huge (compared to the one I used before) smartphone out of the box, I immediately realized that we would work together. I received the device in a bright orange glossy case; it also comes with a black matte plastic back cover. On the back covers there is the inscription “Microsoft”, not even “Lumia”, and, especially, not “Nokia”. The same inscription is on the front of the smartphone.

I was pleased that the lid can be easily removed. I don’t know about anyone, but I’ve always had problems with this: sometimes it doesn’t want to come off at all, sometimes the corners will all crack, sometimes my nails will all break, and it takes a lot of nerves while you take these covers off. That's why I really loved my previous phone - Lumia 720 - in it the SIM card and memory card are placed in separate slots, which are accessed using a special key. Here the back cover can be removed without problems, but when assembled it does not fall off on its own, does not creak, does not play, or hangs loose. Nice. Under the cover there are two slots for SIM cards and one for a memory card.

I was surprised to find no headphones or USB cable in the box ( Charger solid, like in the good old days), but they can be purchased for literally pennies at any mobile accessory store. And at home there is enough of this goodness from other phone models.

Very impressive dimensions give the device solidity. Of course, due to this screen size (which is, after all, 5 inches), it is sometimes difficult to reach the edges of the display, but you can get used to it. A few smart words: display resolution - qHD (540x960 pixels), number of colors - TrueColor (24 bit/16 million), pixel density - 220 pixels/inch, LCD display is made using IPS technology.

The display is covered with scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla 3 glass. The screen seems to have good performance, but at first the difference between the Lumia 535 and 720 felt like heaven and earth. Due to the lack of an oleophobic coating, the Lumiya 535 display seemed rough, as if there was glue left on it from a sticker. It was unpleasant to run your fingers over it. But, surprisingly, this feeling quickly passed, perhaps my fingers just got used to it.

There are two physical buttons on the smartphone body: on/off/lock/unlock and a double volume button. Unfortunately, there is no separate button for calling the camera (apparently, the budget affects it), which is a pity, because the device is equipped with good cameras (both main and front), which implies frequent use Lumia 535 for taking photos and videos.

There is a 3.5 mm headset jack on the top end, and a microUSB connector on the bottom. Dimensions of the smartphone are 140.2 x 72.4 x 8.8 mm, weight – 146 grams. The device is weighty, you can feel it in your hand.

Beginning of work

After the meeting on clothes, it was my turn to figure out the “mind” of the Lumiya 535. Imagining how much time it would take me to customize the device for myself, I was a little upset. If everything is simple with contacts: they were easily transferred to Lumia using the built-in Data Transfer application, then the loss of manually downloaded and installed applications, games (and achievements in them), settings threatened to lose a whole evening, if not more, to restore familiar look your smartphone. However, when I turned it on for the first time, the system kindly suggested that I transfer all data to new phone, having, of course, previously logged into my account Microsoft entry. It took some time (about 30 minutes) to transfer the information, reboot the device, and here in front of me was my old familiar phone! Absolutely everything was transferred to the new device, including the size and location of the tiles on the desktop, and even the alarm settings did not have to be re-entered; they were also preserved. All my previously downloaded and installed applications The system independently found them in the Application Store and downloaded them again. Moreover, the tiles of these applications on the desktop were displayed on it even before the applications themselves were downloaded from the Store. Only they were darkened, and as they downloaded they became lighter, as if the download progress was displayed on them.

The usual navigation buttons "Back", "Home" and "Search" in the Lumia 535 are on-screen, not touch-sensitive.

In the settings menu item "Navigation Panel" you can enable or disable the function of automatic appearance and disappearance of this panel; here you can also select the color of the panel: it can be always dark, match the background color or the color of the elements. And in the "Sensor" settings section, you can enable vibration when using the navigation keys. Despite the various supposed conveniences that the developers have equipped these buttons with, they are inconvenient to use; they often simply cover up part of the interface of some applications. For example, after installing the player, I discovered that when playing a song, the “Start-Pause” button closes almost halfway touch panel smartphone control, and the lowest point context menu on the tab "loses" the last line.

Smartphone memory and performance

Built-in memory in the smartphone is 8 GB, cards are supported microSD memory up to 128 GB. You can also use 15 GB of free memory provided in cloud storage OneDrive.

One of the most important features is the amount of RAM installed in the smartphone. Based on the fact that this model is a budget one, we can assume that the Lumia 535 should have no more than 512 MB of RAM. However, the smartphone received a full 1 GB of memory, which undoubtedly sets it apart from similar devices from other manufacturers. Thanks to this amount of RAM, the user has access to almost all currently available applications and games for Windows Phone 8.1. The smartphone “pulls” them perfectly, be it simple messengers or dynamic, resource-intensive modern games.

The speed of operation is also greatly influenced by the quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor. The frequency of each core is 1.2 GHz, the Adreno 302 graphics chip is used. Of course, this is not the most powerful chip, but during everyday use the device behaves excellently, does not freeze or slow down and it works smoothly and quite quickly.

For clarity, we carried out the usual performance tests. The AnTuTu test showed the following results:

The Basemark OS II benchmark test determined the following:

Basemark OS II (bigger = better)

And the test to measure JavaScript performance determined the following:

SunSpider 1.0.2 (less = better)

The smartphone uses a 1905 mAh battery. According to Microsoft, Lumiya 535 can provide the following maximum operating time:

  • in standby mode with two SIM cards: 14 days.
  • talk time on 2G network: 11 hours
  • talk time on 3G network: 13 hours
  • music playback: 78 hours
  • on the Internet via Wi-Fi connection: 8.5 h
  • Video playback: 6.5 hours

In fact, with enough active use One battery charge of a smartphone lasts for about a day. If you make about 30 minutes of calls in total to both SIM cards over the course of a whole day, keep mobile data and Wi-Fi on all the time, have an e-reader open in the background, play games several times for a couple of minutes, use a flashlight a couple of times and take a few photos. , then by the evening the smartphone will be more than half discharged. As a result, I have to charge it every evening.

What did our test show in terms of operating time on a single battery charge? WITH open browser IE (where once every 20 seconds, after the page was fully loaded, they switched to a new, non-cached page) via an Internet connection via Wi-Fi with an always active screen with brightness at 100%, the smartphone worked for 4 hours 44 minutes (start at 15:00). 11, ends at 19:55), managing to open the page 665 times. Internet Browser Explorer still impersonates the device on various OSes. Here are both Android and iOS (Mozilla/5.0 (Mobile; Windows Phone 8.1; Android 4.0; ARM; Trident/7.0; Touch; rv:11.0; IEMobile/11.0; NOKIA; Lumia 535) like iPhone OS 7_0_3 Mac OS X AppleWebKit/ 537 (KHTML, like Gecko) Mobile Safari/537), which entails certain inconveniences: for example, on sites where there are clients for phones, you will be bothered with the offer to install a client for Android or iPhone. You can get rid of the problem by switching the browser to desktop mode (in the browser settings, select the full version in your preferred version).

Browser time (hours)

The second test showed that Microsoft Lumia 535 charges from AC-60E 1.5A charger in 164 minutes (note that this is not a complete charge). Of course, the “native” charging of the AC-18E at 550mA will make the process longer.

Dual SIM cards

It so happened that until now I have not had to use a device with two SIM cards. Although the need for this has arisen more than once. For those users who need to make a lot of business calls, and with personal phone Of course, you don’t want to do this at all; it will just be a godsend. One SIM card is personal, the second is work. Very comfortably. Or, for personal purposes, you can use cards from different operators in order to call different people at more favorable rates. Or use one card with one tariff for calls, and the second for mobile internet. There are many options, and everyone chooses the one that is more convenient in a particular situation.

In the "Settings" menu in the " Cellular network+ SIM" sets the settings for the SIM cards used. Here you can give each card a name, enable or disable its use, set the network selection mode (automatically or manually), and also enable data transfer, indicating which card should be used for mobile data transmission. Additional settings for two SIM cards can be found in the "Network+" settings menu item. Here you can enable forwarding from one card to another if the SIM card to which the call is being made is unavailable. And at this point I found a very interesting link “Additional settings for two SIM cards”, clicking on which, instead of the expected new settings, took me... to the “Settings” menu item, the “Cellular network + SIM” section. If the developers didn’t bother to combine two SIM card settings items into one, then at least they linked them.

In general, this dispersion of settings is annoying. If in the first Winphones there were not so many system settings, then in modern models of this menu items I counted 6 and a half pages. By the time you get to the last one, you’ll forget what you were looking for. In the new Windows 10 OS (we're talking about its mobile version, of course), this menu item will be much more organized: everything related to the system will be in one sub-item, networks and communications - in another, personalization - in a third, etc.

Working with two SIM cards is convenient: calls and SMS are divided into different tiles. Messages in each conversation highlight messages from different cards with a background color. When dialing a number or SMS, you can select the SIM card with which to make a call or send a message. By the way, it is now possible to select individual messages in a conversation and delete selected messages, rather than the entire conversation. You can also delete individual entries in the call log.

User interface

No matter what spiteful critics say about Windows interface Phone, I like it. I like it precisely because of its brevity, strict lines, and compactness. This is not a bunch of desktops with dozens of icons on them, which even dazzles your eyes. And Winphones have only two screens: the main desktop and the list of applications.

The size of the tiles on the main screen can be changed, there are three sizes available. Tiles can be moved around the screen to create different compositions. Many Windows Phone apps have transparent tiles. If set to main screen only such tiles, and select a desktop background under them, then a solid background image with application names on transparent tiles will be visible on the main screen. But again, not all apps have transparent tiles.

You can also set any photo or image on the lock screen. As in other Winphones, the date, time, day of the week, network icons, connections, batteries, etc. are displayed here. You can configure the display of detailed information about various applications on the lock screen: calendar (events scheduled for today will appear on the screen), messages (author and part of the text are displayed), phone (caller name and time of call), Email(sender and title of the letter). You can individually select up to five applications, information from which will be displayed on the lock screen in in brief. The Lumia 535 does not have the Glance Screen function - a screensaver on the locked screen. And double tapping on the screen does not unlock the smartphone.

The application menu has also not changed. This is the same list of programs, sorted in alphabetical order.

Video and music

Video files on your smartphone can be viewed in the Video application. The collection of video files is divided into movies downloaded to the smartphone and videos from the camera. You can watch video formats H.263, H.264/AVC, MPEG-4, VC-1. A small film was played back without problems, and a video shot with a phone camera did not cause any problems either. But the movie.mkv did not even appear in the list. The built-in player does not “know how” to play video in high resolution. However, for this you can use third party applications. For example, just the other day I discovered an excellent player, which was the only one of all the ones I tested that was able to decently (almost without artifacts) reproduce a movie in the .mkv format.

The music player in the Lumia 535 is also without features. The external speaker in the smartphone is loud and can be heard well. The only thing is that if the phone is lying on a hard surface (table, sofa, etc.) the sound is muffled. You can connect portable devices to your smartphone wireless speakers Portable or Coloud Bang speakers. Then Lumiya 535 can be used as a portable player for home use.

External speaker volume, dB (more = better)

In Lumia 535, both the main and front cameras have 5-megapixel sensors. The main 5 megapixel camera will not surprise anyone, but the front 5 megapixel camera makes the Lumiya 535 a truly unusual device.

The front camera is equipped with wide-angle optics with an f/2.4 aperture and will certainly appeal to fans of the currently fashionable selfie shots. For such photos, the smartphone comes pre-installed with the Lumia Selfie application, in which you can select 20 different filters for processing the image, as well as various tools for processing photos. You can enlarge the eyes of the face in the photo, add a smile, even out the skin tone, even change the shape of the face. The front camera is also used for video calls.

Selfie photos can also be taken with the main camera. To do this, it has an automatic face capture mode. By moving the smartphone, we recognize by sound when a face is included in the frame. The shutter releases automatically. The main camera is complemented by an LED flash. Both cameras are capable of shooting video. The resolution, however, is small - 848x480 pixels.

All created photos and videos are saved in the Photos application. Nothing special appeared in it either. In the gallery, all photographs are sorted by creation date. You can also view pictures from different albums: Camera Album, Saved Photos, Screenshots, etc.

Impressions and conclusions

I’ll say right away that I personally really liked it. The sleek design of my previous Lumiya (720) was one of the reasons I didn't want to part with it. However, the 535th model turned out to be no worse. The proportions of the device do not make it a wide “shovel”; on the contrary, this smartphone is narrow and long, fits easily in the hand, it is thin and simply beautiful. And the additional rear panel included in the kit was a pleasant bonus, which helped us get a completely different external device in a few seconds. The second undoubted advantage was the support for two SIM cards. This is convenient and practical, especially since the Lumia 535 has a clear separation of calls and SMS from different cards, that is, you can always see from which SIM card a call is made or a message is sent. I don’t really like taking pictures, and I don’t take selfies as photos at all, so I wouldn’t choose the Lumia 535 just because it has a good front camera. However, we have to admit that a 5-megapixel front camera in a budget smartphone is really cool. And, of course, the price of the device is very affordable compared to its capabilities.

What I didn't like about the smartphone was the display. Firstly, without an oleophobic coating, it is constantly “patched”, fingerprints are always visible on it. Secondly, the glass of the smartphone is not as smooth and pleasant to the touch as in more expensive Lumiyas. Well, and thirdly, the touchscreen is noticeably glitchy (but Microsoft continues to work on this). Sometimes when typing text it displays characters that I haven’t even reached with my finger yet, a couple of times the search turned on on its own for no apparent reason, and I also noticed that the smartphone can unlock itself in my pocket and turn on different applications. It’s good that at least I didn’t call anyone on my own. By the way, after two weeks of using the Lumia 535, it was discovered that the back cover does not fit too tightly to the smartphone; when you press the middle part of the device, you can hear a creaking sound and the cover “plays” slightly.

Minuses:

  • incorrectly working touchscreen
  • unpleasant to the touch display
  • loose fit back cover to the body
  • absence USB cable and headsets included

pros:

  • attractive design
  • display with Corning Gorilla 3
  • bright colors of the back panel
  • second rear panel cover included
  • Dual SIM support
  • fast interface
  • very convenient and fast text entry with the Word Flow function
  • 5 MP front wide-angle camera
  • 1 GB RAM
  • good office suite
  • HERE navigation services
