Tablets are ideal for surfing the web, watching movies, and playing games. But working in office applications on tablets is not yet convenient. The main problem: is it possible to install Word on a tablet and can they be used as a full-fledged replacement for laptops. The situation so far is that the office suites offered for Android have weak support file formats, limited or absent editing mode, poor settings and only partial compatibility with Microsoft Office.

Several popular offices for Android OS

Most tablets are made with Android processor architecture. And Microsoft released a special office for it. Version called Quickoffice Pro licensed and it can be downloaded from the official website.

The version of Kingsoft Office developed for Android differs from the previous one in that you do not need to pay for it. It is inferior in functionality, but the simplest features, such as viewing text files and their editing can be carried out. The program opens files: Doc; Docx; PPT; XLS; TXT; PPTX.

How to put office on a tablet

These and other similar programs are installed on tablets of any model. To implement the simplest and most understandable method of installing such programs, you will need an Internet connection on the tablet.

All tablets are suitable for programs from the Android Market. We find there the program that we are going to install. Then click the “Install” button and the program does everything else automatically.

If there are no programs from official developers, and the tablet does not install third party programs, you will have to use another method. But they cannot be guaranteed correct operation and data security.

In “Settings - Applications”, check the box next to the line “Unknown sources” (“Settings - Application Settings” and “Unknown Sources”).

Setting up an office for a tablet using a computer

Download the special InstallAPK program to your computer and install this application. We connect the tablet to the computer via a USB cable. From the programs available on the computer, select the one we need and double-click on it with the mouse. Then the installation program does everything on its own. If, of course, everything is installed and connected correctly.

For programs with the .apk extension

After downloading the desired file with the .apk extension, go back to the browser or file manager and find the treasured file. Click on its icon and the tablet will install it itself. If necessary, check the box if Android displays a message about a possible threat to the tablet.

Most convenient file managers EStrongs File Manager and Astro are considered.

Microsoft Office is the leading office suite, supported by most existing operating systems. Its Android version is available at Google Play in the form of several separate applications, including Word, Excel and Power Point, as well as Outlook and OneNote.

Each of the applications included in mobile Microsoft Office is responsible for working with specific content. In the case of Word this text documents Excel is for tables and PowerPoint is for presentations. A similar division into several programs is also used in Microsoft office suites for desktop PCs. However, this approach is a non-standard solution for the market mobile applications, where all the functionality of the office suite is usually included in one program.

Despite not partitioning Microsoft mobile Office into several components, each of them has somewhat similar functionality. This primarily applies to online collaborative development tools, support cloud storage etc. The user can at any time access documents stored on One Drive, Google Drive or Dropbox. To authorize and use all functions of mobile Microsoft Office, you will need to create account, with the help of which synchronization will be carried out in the future, etc.

In editing mode, Microsoft's office suite for Android is almost identical to its full version for desktop PCs. Here you can manage presentation slides, change text parameters in documents or change the contents of cells in tables. There are no problems with displaying documents or loading speed. It is worth noting that at the time of writing this review Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point supported only devices based on Android 4.4 and later with volumes random access memory from 1 GB, which significantly exceeded the average requirements for smartphones among other applications on Google Play.

The interface of mobile Microsoft Office is reminiscent of its latest versions for PC. The similarities are visible not only in the icons and their placement, but also in the color scheme and are noticeable both in the editing menu and on the navigation screen. At the same time, the interface is very easy to use and is best adapted for touch input.

Hello. As you may have noticed, links to editorial reviews have appeared in the header of the site the best software, and gentlemen Taras Zhukov And Dmitry Romanov We have already written review articles on various types of programs for iOS and Android. Now it’s my time to join the crowd with a review and comparison of office/text editors.

Having gone to the section of the same name on the website and sorted the programs by downloads and ratings, I chose the top five, which we will take a close look at. Namely:

  • Office Suite
  • Polaris Office (4)
  • QuickOffice
  • Smart Office 2
  • Word to Go

To conduct testing, I asked our editor-in-chief Alexandra Bobyleva send me a couple of particularly tricky documents that have already appeared several times in our trash casts and could not be displayed normally in their “native” environment - in a program written by Microsoft for a Windows background. Let's see how our today's applicants cope with these difficult tasks. I won’t build a top list, let’s just go in order.

As a “standard” I took LibreOffice Writer. It is worth admitting that even he sometimes “mess up” - pay attention to the notes on the screenshots. Unfortunately, I am not the owner of a Microsoft office, which, however, I consider a plus and I always remember to mention this when meeting girls, so we have one standard on the computer.

In addition, I would like to clarify that at first I tested the entire office package - boldness, italics, ordering, lists and the overall number of editor features, but after the article became overwhelming and I decided to get rid of these “repetitions”. All the editors presented here are “able” to use the standard set at the proper level, all actions on the text are carried out practically according to the same scenario, as written in the guidelines for the design of Android applications, so to describe how cool everything is with boldness in all I won't be editors.

Also, I did not check the editors for the ability to read PDF - if the ability is stated, then the editors cope with it without any problems.

Office Suite

The history of the development of this program goes back more than one year. At one time there was even a version for Symbian (and a pretty good one), with which, in fact, it all began. The developers claim that the program is almost omnivorous and can open formats such as DOC / DOCX, DOCM, RTF, TXT, LOG, XLS, XLSX, XLSM, CSV, PPT, PPTX, PPS, PPSX, PPTM, PPSM, PDF, EML, ZIP. I admit, I’m seeing a couple of extensions for the first time and have never used them.

OfficeSuite showed pretty good results when opening both documents, in some places the display was even better than on a computer. However, there were some problems: the note number in the footer was not displayed, the numbers in the graphs stuck together, but the problem is easily solved with a little stretching. All images and formulas were displayed as expected.

At the first direct (not opening a file) launch, the program will offer you to download a special set of fonts (documents were opened without them).

I was very pleasantly surprised by the ability to print directly from the device. To do this, just add virtual printer in Chrome or Google account, and then give the program access. I tried it - it works! Magic, and that's all. :)

OfficeSuite made 2 mistakes in formatting our documents. We'll score another point for the meager number of settings - 7/10.

Polaris Office 4

"Polaris" is an editor that came free with my device (Tab 2 7.0), which is why I indicated version 4, because this moment There is already a fifth one, but, unfortunately, I was not able to try it. The reason for this is that the developers placed a message on top of the editor screen stating that I am already using free version for my Samsung devices, use it, why do you need the fifth version? And indeed. I did not remove the fourth and install the fifth.

As you can see, the package had some problems with the formulas - the picture was reflected, and in the subscript the font became too small to see everything comfortably.

There were no problems with displaying graphs and formulas, but the display of fields crossed out the numbers in Fig. 1, which can generally be considered a test failure.

There was also some rather strange blurriness, but the package did an excellent job of displaying the footnote number.

I was pleasantly pleased with the display of hyphens; in the previous one you couldn’t even turn this on.

In terms of functionality and ease of use, I liked the editor more than the previous one, so 7/10 (minus 3 points for errors, plus 1 for design and ease of use coupled with the reading function).

QuickOffice

From a product of a good (or evil?) corporation, I expected smooth and good work, but what I found was not at all what I expected. At first there were no signs of trouble, the formulas and images looked great, although a little sparse, the fonts too, the formatting in general, but everything changed when it came to more complex options. If here our office suite decided to show paragraph marks instead of symbols;

In the case of graphs, the editor simply did not show them! Didn't even try. Reminds me of Bobs' story about "Office" on a Windows background.

It is worth mentioning the speed of the application. I will clarify that all applications are launched “solo” - everything else is unloaded from memory, i.e. everyone has equal conditions for the use of resources. QuickOffice works very poorly: documents open slowly, rendering is slow, scrolling - what would you think? Yes, it's also slow! The program is simply not comfortable to use at the moment. I'm afraid it's online Google option Drive, launched in the browser, works many times faster and more pleasantly than QuickOffice. -3 points for errors (-2 immediately for completely ignoring the graphs) and another -2 for the appalling speed of work. Overall 5/10.
Unfortunately, document display is not so smooth. Symbols are sometimes replaced by squares, creeping onto each other, or even replaced by a Cyrillic “alternative”

At the same time, the most complex graph was displayed as expected. Well, except for the letters of the Greek alphabet.

In addition to a beautiful interface, the program can print using “Print Room” technology, as well as display images on projectors in a special presentation mode. The editor itself is also quite nice and convenient, action buttons pop up like in iOS near the text being manipulated. The only downside is the rather clumsy automatic translation of the program into Russian. 7/10.

But there are no formulas, but they are there, right there, between the commas. And no, if you wait, they won't appear. The program just couldn't show them - it was too complicated.

Or the formulas seem to be there, but they don’t fit, only the edges are visible.

And, of course, we should not forget how slow this program as a whole works - it opens slowly, scales slowly, everything is slow. They even made a special indicator for scaling, so that you don’t just sit for 15 seconds, but enjoy the stripe.

Well, for dessert - our most difficult test. Word To Go runs it at the Quickoffice level, meaning it doesn't display graphics at all.

I'll give this package a 2/10. Perhaps it’s not bad, but only for some people simple tasks, however, its convenience, or rather its absence, completely cuts off the possibility of normal use of the program for everyday purposes.

I would not like to summarize the applications completely. Let me just say that I didn’t find a clear winner - everyone screws up at some point, but if I were choosing an office suite for myself, I would choose from OfficeSuite, Polaris Office and Smart Office 2. The final choice is up to you - the users.
