Even an inexperienced user can restore correspondence on WhatsApp. To do this you need to have at your disposal backup copy. It is done automatically or manually. When changing a smartphone or reinstalling an application, we can restore all correspondence from a copy. It is impossible to restore a deleted chat if it is not in the backup, remember this.

Let's immediately get acquainted with the procedure for creating backup copies, after which we will fake the loss of all chats - delete the application from the smartphone, install it again and restore from the copy. First, let’s set up creating a backup:

  • Go to the menu “Settings – Chats – Chat backup”.
  • Setting it up backup to Google Drive.
  • We set the frequency - manually, daily, weekly or monthly.

If you are so concerned about the safety of your correspondence, feel free to set up daily creation of an archival backup. Remember that you can start the procedure manually at any time. After starting the backup, the backup file will be saved on Google servers.

Thus, you can restore WhatsApp only from the moment from which the backup was made. If you wish, you can make backups at least every hour if there are no other activities. But this is already overkill - daily copying is enough.

Recovering deleted correspondence

For the purity of the experiment, we completely remove WhatsApp from the smartphone, having previously created a backup.

The device’s memory is clean, no correspondence has been saved in it. Therefore, we begin the recovery procedure. To recover deleted messages on WhatsApp, go to Playmarket and install the application again. Next, we carry out a standard confirmation of the number - indicate it in the appropriate field.

At the next stage, wait until you receive an SMS with the code and enter it in the appropriate field.

After this, the phone will try to restore the copy– not only messages can be restored, but also media data (photos and even videos, if you have set the appropriate settings in the backup). Click the “Restore” button and wait for the result.

After a few seconds, WhatsApp will unpack the resulting archive and restore the deleted chats.

Please note that even the avatar is restored. We set our name again, click the “Next” button - after a couple of seconds the familiar WhatsApp interface with all chats will appear on the screen.

Local copy

We were able to restore chats after deleting the program. But exactly until the moment the backup was made. But we can also restore from earlier copies - it’s not very clear why this is implemented, but there is a possibility. The application stores the seven most recent archives in a folder /sdcard/WhatsApp/Databases, if WhatsApp is installed on the SD card. It is possible that you have it installed in internal memory.

To restore correspondence from old archives, rename required file(it is marked with dates) in msgstore.db.crypt12. Next, you need to uninstall and reinstall WhatsApp. Launch the recovery and the smartphone itself will find this copy and restore all chats. By the way, in the same way you can save the necessary copies locally, without resorting to Google Drive. But the option with cloud storage more convenient - we conducted many experiments and found that the tool works stably.

Problems with Google Drive

Now you know that you can restore a deleted chat, but only from the moment the archive was created. But what if you change the handset and the recovery does not start? Problems are possible in the following cases:

  • On the current smartphone it is outdated version Google Play– you need to update it.
  • You changed your phone number - restoration is impossible.
  • There is no free memory in the device - delete something or move files to your computer.
  • There is no stable Internet connection - connection to Google servers constantly breaks off.

Solve these problems and get access to your chats with all correspondence.

Please note - on smartphones Apple iPhone Instead of Google Drive, iCloud Drive is used, which stores all backups.

If you're tired of your operator

Guys, we know very well that operators raise prices and force subscribers to connect to services that the latter do not want to use. Fortunately, now there is a great opportunity to move to another operator with your number. There are virtual operators that provide very good rates and cool benefits when porting a number. One of them is Tinkoff Mobile, which is increasingly being chosen by visitors to our site.

This is the most popular messenger released for modern smartphones.

Attention: Starting recently, all backups for Android OS phones are copied using the Crypt7 format, which requires a special key to decrypt, which can be found in the phone’s memory. If you do not have root rights, then you need to familiarize yourself with the materials on retrieving encryption keys from the database of your device.

One of the most popular functions of the program is sending multimedia files. Using the application, you can send each other photographs, pictures, videos, voice files, music, geolocation and much more. One of the biggest advantages of the application is that all functions are available in it for free, you only pay for Internet use according to the tariffs of your operator. Now you can download the application for most models: Vastapp for Android, Vastapp for iOS, Vastapp for BlackBerry, Vastapp for Windows Phone and WhatsApp for Symbian.

Sometimes people accidentally delete necessary information, and then spend hours on the Internet looking for a solution to the data recovery problem. It is logical to assume that since you are reading this article, you are also looking for how to get data and messages back to your WhatsApp. Regardless of the conditions and reasons, “resurrecting” data does not present any difficulties, but you will still have to try a little. Well, let's get started.

Often, the application itself copies messages once a day, so in any case you will not lose too much information, if at all.

Recovering data that was deleted no more than 7 days ago

If you want to return the old ones, the “life” of which is no more than a week, then everything is quite simple: delete the application from your smartphone and install it back. When you launch the application, it will automatically offer to restore your correspondence history; you just need to agree and all data no older than 7 days will appear on your phone again.

It is important to understand that when you restore your message history to your phone, you will lose the history that you have now, unless you saved it along with old chats.

WhatsApp data recovery

To save valuable data from your messenger, there is a whole service called “Recover Messages”. With its help, you can recover deleted or accidentally missing data from your favorite WhatsApp account. However, you will first have to make a copy of your WhatsApp contact database and settings on your PC. How to do this?

  1. You need to connect your smartphone, tablet or other device to your PC and copy a file called msgstore.db.crypt to it. You can find it at /sdcard/WhatsApp/Databases, i.e. it is on the memory card. If you are using an Apple device, then you should look for this file in the network folder at net.whatsapp.Whatsapp/Documents/ChatStorage.
  2. After copying these small files, go to www.recovermessages.com and look for an option called Select SQLite File. After clicking, you will need to download the file that you copied from the device to your computer.
  3. Accept the terms of licensed use of the site and agree to its rules by clicking on the I accept the terms of use checkbox. After this, the Scan button will appear, you also need to click on it.
  4. How long the scan will take depends on two factors: the size of the data and your internet speed. When the procedure is finished, you will see an option that allows you to recover deleted or previously lost data. Messages after recovery will be displayed on the site.

Recovering message history via iCloud cloud service for iPhone phones

Typically, many users of Apple devices regularly connect them via iTunes or iCloud, so the chances that the method described above will work for this type of phone are quite small. Want to save your chat? Nothing could be simpler. First of all, synchronize the phone itself and iCloud. To return messages, go to the settings of the WhatsApp application itself,

and in the “Chat Settings” section, select the option “ Backup restore messages."

Don't forget to check if you saved the correspondence and if there is anything to restore. The easiest way is to delete the application and then download it again via App Store and install. After entering the number, the system itself will ask if you would like to restore your correspondence history.

You can also synchronize with iCloud through the internal application settings menu. To do this, go to settings and select Back Up Now. In addition, you can independently set the parameters for how often you want to make automatic copies of chats.

Technical requirements for synchronizing the application and iCloud service:

  • Operating system version not lower than 5.1;
  • Active connection to the cloud;
  • The Documents and Data option must be enabled in iCloud settings;
  • Free space on the cloud where all data will be sent;
  • There is enough free space on the device to which the recovery will be performed.

How to view WhatsApp database using PC

For this action you will need additional program WhatsApp Viewer. You need to use it as follows:

  • From the phone’s memory, “pull out” the file named msgstore.db.crypt5. The path to it is as follows: /sdcard/WhatsApp/Databases. You need to copy it to your computer;
  • Launch the application you downloaded previously;
  • In WhatApp Viewer itself, find File > Open > Select file;
  • Next you need to enter your username and password. This is the same data that you use to log in Google service Play. If you have several accounts, try using the selection method to determine the appropriate one.
  • After logging in and authorizing, a list of dialogs will appear on the left side, by clicking on which you can read the correspondence history.

Application version 1.4 can only show text files and photos, while geolocation, audio files and other data are not available. Plus, you will only see thumbnails, not full images. good quality. Also, you will not see the names of your friends, but their phone numbers– the nickname display function does not work yet.

Sometimes the application crashes, so if you encounter problems, just try the same steps again. If anything, the author of the program is Andreas Mausch, you can find him on the Internet and ask questions, thank him, or point out problems with the application.

How to restore WhatsApp backup file on your PC

Step 1. Find a backup copy on your mobile and transfer it to your PC. You can find it at sdcard/WhatsApp/Databases/msgstore.db.crypt if you are using a phone with Android OS.

If you have root rights, you can also take the databases:

- /data/data/com.whatsapp/databases/msgstore.db

- /data/data/com.whatsapp/databases/wa.db

When extracting information from copies of msgstore.db or wa.db, in addition to numbers, names of friends from the contact list will also be available.

For iPhone, the application backup file is located at

- net.whatsapp.WhatsApp/Documents/ChatStorage.sqlite

Sometimes it happens that users do not see or find this file. Then you will have to do it manually. To do this, connect your device to your PC and copy your iPhone without using encryption.

Next you need to download iPhone app Backup Extractor. A basic one is enough to get the job done free version. Launch the application and click on the backup file that was created a couple of minutes earlier. Then set the mode to “Expert Mode”, select “Application”, and inside find the folder “net.WhatsApp.WhatsApp”. Then “Extract Selected”. Among all the received files there will be one with the name “ChatStorage.sqlite”. It contains all your data from the WhatsApp application.

Step 2: Download WhatsApp Xtract 2.1 or version 2.2 on your PC and start the extraction process.

Step 3. Install on your PC Python language. Don't worry, you won't need to program anything.

Step 4. Open the folder where you previously extracted the archive called WhatsApp Xtract. In it, find the file install pyCrypto.bat and run it as administrator.

Step 5. In the same folder, as an administrator, run the files “whatsapp_xtract_iphone.bat”, “whatsapp_xtract_android_crypted.bat” or “whatsapp_xtract_android.bat”, depending on the backup used. You can simply drag the desired file to whatsapp_xtract_drag’n’drop_database(s)_here.bat.

Now everything is ready. As soon as the .bat file is downloaded, all your messages, correspondence and other data will be displayed in the browser that you use by default.

How to Recover Deleted Messages on WhatsApp

WhatsApp is convenient and, most importantly, free way Internet communication. The only significant disadvantage of this messenger is that it stores the content, that is, all the user’s correspondence, locally - in the memory of mobile devices, and not on remote servers. In this regard, every time a user transfers his WhatsApp account to new smartphone or a tablet, he has to think about how to recover WhatsApp messages, if not all, then at least an important part of the correspondence.

Moreover, the success of the entire event directly depends on whether the user has the same old smartphone(or a tablet) from which data can be copied, or a backup copy of such data saved in a safe place (WA automatically saves a copy of the data once a day in the device’s memory or on a card).

In the absence of a device or a backup from it, unfortunately, there will be nothing to restore WhatsApp messages from.

In addition, transferring correspondence history to another operating system is also not the best simple task(we’ll tell you about possible solutions to this someday).

But let's not talk about the bad.

If the “old” smartphone from which you need to transfer WhatsApp correspondence is at hand, and it’s with the same operating system, as it is new (i.e. there are no plans to switch from iOS to Android or vice versa), the procedure for copying and restoring WhatsApp history will not take much time.

how to recover WhatsApp messages on iPhone

There are several ways to resave your WhatsApp chat on any iPhone. But, as practice shows, this is done easier and faster using iCloud backup. So, if you have not yet created a backup copy of WhatsApp correspondence in iCloud, then to create it, open it in iPhone " Settings "Whatsapp application, click " Chats and calls «, « Copy " and click " Create a copy «.

Next, install the WhatsApp application on new iPhone, confirm your phone number (you cannot change it in this case), and the system will offer you to restore your WhatsApp chat. We agree, and after that the backup copy of the correspondence will be automatically copied to the new smartphone.

Once the data recovery procedure is complete, you can return to the application settings and activate the automatic chat backup function in iCloud to make transferring data even easier next time.

how to recover WhatsApp messages on an Android smartphone or tablet using an SD card

On Android devices with SD card slots, the procedure for transferring WhatsApp history is also extremely simple. On an old Android smartphone, open WhatsApp, click “Settings” -> “Chats and calls” -> “Chat backup” , after which the backup will be automatically created on the memory card. Then we remove the card from the old smartphone, install it in the slot of the new one, install and launch WhatsApp on it (the SD card must already be installed when the application is launched). WhatsApp will “see” the card and automatically copy your chat history from the backup.

how to recover WhatsApp messages on an Android smartphone or tablet via computer

In Android models without memory card slots (and there are more and more of them), you can transfer chat history via a computer - a method, of course, is ancient, but proven.

However, we first create a backup copy of the chats (see above). Only then we connect the smartphone to the computer using a USB cable. After Windows installs the necessary drivers, open “ Conductor “, find your smartphone in the list of external devices, double-click it, open it and carefully look for a folder on the disk called WhatsApp and copy it to the computer. Next, disconnect the old smartphone, connect the new one and copy the WhatsApp folder to its memory. We disconnect the new smartphone from the computer, install WhatsApp, confirm the phone number, and then the system should automatically “pick up” the copied backup copy of the chats.

how to recover WhatsApp messages on an Android smartphone or tablet via Google Drive

If Google app If you already use the disk and you have already configured the WhatsApp automatic backup function, then the procedure for transferring WhatsApp history from one Android device to another using this service is extremely simple.

However, it’s better to remind you where and how to set up auto-backup of WhatsApp chat history to Google Drive:

  • open WhatsApp;
  • tap “Menu” -> “Settings” -> “Chats and calls” -> “Chat backup” ;
  • click " Backup to Google Drive "and configure the backup frequency;
  • select your Google account (if you don’t have one yet, you can create one right away) where the data will be copied;
  • click " Use » and select the network for backup.

The time it takes to create a backup will depend on the size of the chat. The first one, as a rule, takes longer to create than the subsequent ones. In any case, before creating copies, you need to check the battery charge level.

If you have an up-to-date WhatsApp chat backup, as we have already said, transferring WhatsApp history from one Android smartphone to another is a matter of technique. There are only two conditions: the same phone number and Google account, which were previously used to create a backup. Then it's simple:

  • install WhatsApp on a new smartphone (if the application has been installed, it should be deleted and then installed again);
  • we confirm the phone number and agree to the system’s offer to restore the history from a copy on Google Drive;
  • After completing the recovery procedure, click " Track. " and your data will be restored.

Due to its functionality and convenience, it is increasingly popular among people, especially young people. In fact, WhatsApp is a convenient alternative to regular mobile communications, so you can make calls, send messages and files without spending extra money. The account is activated using the phone number associated with it. Blocking is carried out at the request of the user, or by decision of the application administration, for example, for sending spam.

The user can use the account freezing service by contacting technical support. This is appropriate if your phone is lost or stolen. Anyone who tries to break into your account will simply not be able to use its functions. In this case, the user himself will be displayed in the list of those who have entered him into their phone book. Messages will be sent to this account as before, but the user will be able to read them only after he has restored his WhatsApp account.

What difficulties may arise when restoring your account?

The question of how to restore WhatsApp is solved quite simply. However, where does all the correspondence go? Is it possible to restore it? Will the user miss something important while his account is frozen?

Important: All correspondence is stored directly on the device on which the account was activated. Therefore, unfortunately for users, after restoring an account from another device, all old correspondence will be deleted permanently.

However, if you have a Google account linked to your account, you can search for saved copies in the internal memory cache. All undelivered messages due to account freezing are stored on the server for a month. You can read them if you unfreeze your account in a timely manner.

If you want to restore a previously frozen account, write directly to the administration. The technical support service will try to review your request as quickly as possible and make a decision on defrosting. To do this, you will have to go through an anti-spam verification procedure and confirm that the number to which your account was linked really belongs to you. You won’t be able to activate from someone else’s number, just like you won’t be able to freeze your account. If you have lost your SIM card, you will have to purchase a new one using the service of restoring the number of the old one. In this case, you will not have any inconvenience when unlocking.

WhatsApp messenger does not store message history, audio files and images on its servers. They remain only on users' phones. On the one hand, this guarantees the safety of personal information, on the other hand, it creates certain difficulties when cleaning a smartphone or accidentally deleting history.

However, such situations sometimes happen to users who then wonder how to recover deleted messages on WhatsApp. For iPhone owners This option is provided by the iCloud service. It is designed to copy data from mobile device to the cloud. All messages from WhatsApp are also loaded there.

Go to your smartphone settings, select the iCloud section. Open linked account. Now we need to check cloud synchronization from WhatsApp. If it's on, then everything is fine. Otherwise, unfortunately, return deleted messages impossible, since they are not stored on the messenger servers, but only locally.

How to restore WhatsApp correspondence on iPhone if there is a backup copy in iCloud? Open the settings in the messenger itself, the “Chats and calls” section, there tap on “Copy”. The screen will display information about the safety of your data on iCloud servers.

Click Home button, find the WhatsApp icon on the screen and make a long tap on it. Select deletion and confirm. In this case, your data will not be erased. Now the program needs to be reinstalled from the App Store. Sign in using your previous username mobile number. The system will offer to restore data from a copy, agree.

Solving possible problems

Sometimes messenger data recovery fails. In this case, there are a number of actions that will help solve the problem. All of them are marked by the application developer as effective. Follow the steps in the order they appear. One of them will definitely help if the backup was actually set up.

First of all, you should check that the recovery is performed from the iCloud profile that is linked to WhatsApp. In this case, you need to log into the application from your previous number.

Note: It is also possible that the recovery failed due to network connection. If you most often work with home Wi-Fi, then try connecting to it to download data from the cloud.

Sometimes problems are associated with insufficient free memory on the iPhone. You can view the necessary information in the settings. There, go to the “General” section and open “About this device”. If memory is low, then remove unused applications or transfer some of your personal files to your PC.

If this is not the problem, then the problem may be that the iCloud Drive service is turned off. You can view its status in the settings section of the same name. For iOS 7 devices, it will be called Documents & Data. And here there is an important nuance: restoration is not available for iPhones with this firmware. You need to update to iOS version no younger than version 8.

There is another similar limitation. iCloud Drive cannot simultaneously work with multiple devices under the same Apple ID if both or one of them has iOS 7 or lower. As in the above case, a firmware update will be required.

To restore correspondence on Android, approximately the same mechanism applies as was described above for the iPhone.

You need to uninstall WhatsApp, and then install it again, and after you register, you will be prompted to restore a copy of the data

Agree with the restoration and wait for the process to complete.

Restoring earlier correspondence on Android

The method described above is good in cases where you restore correspondence if you change your phone, or simply reset all settings and data on it. But what if you want to recover messages you deleted yourself?

There is a way out, but with a small limitation - you can only restore messages from the last seven days.

First of all, remove WhatsApp from your phone. Next, connect your phone to your computer and go to the WhatsApp/Databases directory. It contains 8 files - 7 backup copies of chats for the last seven days (the file name contains information about the date for which the copy was made), and one main file, which stores current information on chats and groups.

Main file required msgstore.db.crypt8 transfer it to your computer (just in case). Next, we need to decide on what date we will restore the correspondence, let it be September 23, 2017.

Attention! The date example is taken from the screenshot above, the dates on your phone will be different.

File msgstore-2017-09-23.1.db.crypt12 rename to msgstore.db.crypt8. Thus, we made a backup copy of the chats as the main one.
