I bought it in December 2015. As of today - January 2019.. my faithful friend, it still works. Like New! Whatever is really needed, I take a photo. The battery charge lasts all day, because... I don’t go online from it. The calls are loud, the vibration is vibrating, the speakers are working, the audibility is excellent. What else? Never mind. This is my faithful, reliable comrade. I want to buy something new, but in my heart I feel so sorry to betray him.

Inexpensive smartphone, 2 SIM cards, dropped once, nothing happened to it.

    GPS works well

It's dumb compared to its 3.5" "younger brother" PIXI 2 4014D, perhaps just because of the large screen + the battery runs out faster. When dialing a subscriber, the vibration does not work when answering. The same is observed in the 4014D and also in the 4009d and also in the 4015d. The software glitch is irreparable, because It's a matter of firmware from the manufacturer.

Sometimes it overheats, the phone is definitely not for professional photography (the price is clear), when you set the video quality to UT 480 it starts to lag, I also want to note that the RAM for games is too small so there are lags and slowdowns

    slows down

I reset it to factory settings twice. Both times after this, the GPS turned on only after the phone was noticeably thrown against the wall. But then there were no problems with GPS. Apparently, until the next reset

just a terribly stupid and slow phone. It feels like it is powered not by a battery, but by brake fluid.

Terrible camera, both front and rear. Problems with memory, I don’t understand what this phone wants, a 4 GB memory card, it’s set in the settings to immediately move all applications to the memory card, but it doesn’t move them. It’s sooooo stupid, it’s impossible to go to Google normally, or watch a video on YouTube. The battery runs out quickly, right before your eyes. The included wire stopped working literally after 1 month, so I had to use another one. When talking on the phone, the conversation itself is very audible.

It slows down, the back cover creaks, sometimes it ignores touches; If you watch a video on it, the pixels will be visible

It’s very sluggish, after turning it on it takes about a minute and a half to load, then the touchscreen slows down for the first time. The touchscreen itself is generally very rough, does not respond well to touch, and very often neighboring buttons are pressed instead of the desired one. Because of this, you try more to use voice input, but it only works more or less decently with 3G connections. And sometimes you have to repeat it 5 times. There’s some kind of problem with the memory in general; it’s not clear why you need a memory card if installed applications are not transferred there. I have a situation where in order to install a new application I have to erase the old one. In general, the phone is only suitable as a simple dialer

Accelerometer(or G-sensor) - sensor of the device’s position in space. As a main function, the accelerometer is used to automatically change the orientation of the image on the display (vertical or horizontal). Also, G-sensor is used as a pedometer, it can be controlled various functions device by turning or shaking.
Gyroscope- a sensor that measures rotation angles relative to a fixed coordinate system. Capable of measuring rotation angles in several planes simultaneously. A gyroscope together with an accelerometer allows you to accurately determine the position of the device in space. Devices that use only accelerometers have lower measurement accuracy, especially when moving quickly. Also, the capabilities of the gyroscope can be used in modern games for mobile devices.
Light sensor- a sensor that sets the optimal brightness and contrast values for a given light level. The presence of a sensor allows you to increase the battery life of the device.
Proximity sensor- a sensor that detects when the device is close to your face during a call, turns off the backlight and locks the screen, preventing accidental clicks. The presence of a sensor allows you to increase the battery life of the device.
Geomagnetic sensor- a sensor for determining the direction of the world in which the device is directed. Tracks the orientation of the device in space relative to the magnetic poles of the Earth. The information received from the sensor is used in mapping programs for terrain orientation.
Atmospheric pressure sensor- sensor for precise measurement of atmospheric pressure. It is part of the GPS system, allows you to determine altitude above sea level and speed up location determination.
Touch ID- fingerprint identification sensor.

Approximations

Satellite navigation:

GPS(Global Positioning System - global positioning system) - satellite system navigation, providing measurement of distance, time, speed and determining the location of objects anywhere on Earth. The system is developed, implemented and operated by the US Department of Defense. The basic principle of using the system is to determine location by measuring distances to an object from points with known coordinates - satellites. The distance is calculated by the delay time of signal propagation from sending it by the satellite to receiving it by the antenna of the GPS receiver.
GLONASS(Global Navigation Satellite System) - Soviet and Russian satellite navigation system, developed by order of the USSR Ministry of Defense. The measurement principle is similar to the American GPS navigation system. GLONASS is designed for operational navigation and timing support for land, sea, air and space-based users. The main difference from the GPS system is that GLONASS satellites in their orbital motion do not have resonance (synchrony) with the rotation of the Earth, which provides them with greater stability.

Equipment

Alcatel PIXI 4 comes in a compact blue and white cardboard box with a bright design.

On the front side there is an image of the smartphone, the company logo and the model name.

Legal information about the trademark is printed on the left side in different languages.

On the opposite side, the main technical characteristics of the gadget are listed and photographs are shown in Polaroid frames, demonstrating the presence of this mode on the phone (more about it in the “Camera” section).

On the small edges the Alcatel logo is minimalistically “flaunted” and brief information about the device is pasted: model code, IMEI, supported communication standards, etc.

Inside the box, in addition to the device itself, there are: a 5V 550mA power adapter, a 1m long micro-USB cable for connecting to a PC, a “Getting Started” leaflet, a booklet with information about safety measures and warranty conditions, a warranty card and in-ear headphones.

Appearance

The material from which the smartphone body and back panel are made is plastic.

The front side is also covered with plastic. Above the screen there is a flash, earpiece, front camera and notification light.

At the bottom there are touch buttons “back”, “home”, “menu”. The response is fast, but they are not highlighted.

The back cover, as mentioned earlier, is made of plastic and has holes for the camera and flash. It opens very difficult and with a characteristic crack, which creates the feeling that it is about to break.

Under the rear panel there is a 2000 mAh battery, two microSIM slots and a microSD memory card slot. A design feature is that the slot for the second SIM card and for the memory card are independent, while in order to insert or remove a SIM card from the first slot, you need to remove the battery.

On the top edge of the smartphone there is a 3.5 mm jack and a microphone.

On the right side there are physical power and volume buttons, and the power key is located higher, which makes it extremely inconvenient to use.

At the bottom there is a micro-USB connector and a second microphone.

Accordingly, there is nothing on the left side of the device.

Small, from the point of view of modern trends, screen diagonal, average thickness of the gadget and slight roundness back cover make PIXI 4 comfortable to hold in your hand during use.

Display

Alcatel PIXI 4 is equipped with a 5-inch TFT-TN display with the ability to display 16 million colors. Color rendering is satisfactory. This is explained by the type of matrix, which slightly “darkens” the colors.
Screen brightness is low. It is almost impossible to use the phone outdoors. “Adding fuel to the fire” is the plastic coating, which not only glares wildly even indoors, but also significantly narrows viewing angles, distorting colors and weakening brightness. In addition, the plastic is pressed when pressed a little harder than usual, leaving specific spots on the matrix.
No oleophobic coating

Multitouch - maximum number of recognized touches - 2.

Iron

The smartphone runs on a processor with a 64-bit MediaTek MT6735M structure, four ARM Cortex-A53 cores with a frequency of 1 GHz. The main differences from MT6735 are lower clock frequency, resulting in the ability to “curb” displays with a maximum resolution of 720p, but also more economical power consumption.

The games show all the typical performance flaws: the image is unclear, the textures have a “staircase”. Some applications experience stuttering for a few seconds after loading.

The amount of RAM is 1 GB - the minimum for basic functions gadget. In everyday use, the average load is 65-70%

An interesting situation has arisen with internal memory. Of the declared 8 GB, 4.23 GB are available according to the “Device Memory” section in the phone settings, or 3.6 GB according to the manufacturer’s official website. In fact, the user will encounter a shortage after installing the main set of applications. If desired (which will certainly arise), the memory can be expanded using microSD cards up to 32 GB.

The sensor responsible for rotating the screen is very sensitive, which is why the image on the display rotates at the slightest vibration, even when the smartphone lies motionless on the table.

Software

Alcatel PIXI 4 runs on the Android 6.0 Marshmallow mobile operating system. Some nice additions from the manufacturer include a quick access panel on the lock screen and the ability to zoom in on images in the gallery and the camera frame with one finger. The main menu sorts apps alphabetically and there doesn't seem to be any way to change this.

Sound

In the presented gadget, the main speaker is constantly directed towards the user, since it is placed in the place of the earpiece speaker and is such. The design is made with fine perforation, as a result of which the sound hardly “breaks through”. This explains the rather low figures maximum volume emitted noise - 66.7 dB.

The smartphone comes with headphones, the quality of which does not imply long and intensive use.

Connection

Considering that the earpiece is the main one, the call quality is at a decent level. The interlocutor can be heard well even in a noisy environment, and he, in turn, also hears well - noise reduction works.
I'm glad that there is a 4G module and that it works. The signal quality depends on the LTE coverage area of the telecom operator.
The Wi-Fi module receives the signal well, without interruptions.

The GPS module installed in the smartphone cannot be called strong: in 18 seconds of the test, only 12 satellites came into view, 9 of which were directly used.

Battery

The phone is equipped with a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 2000 mAh. When tested with a new battery test from Treshbox, the gadget lasted only 6 hours 36 minutes with Wi-Fi turned on, brightness level 50% and with one SIM card installed.

Camera

The main camera takes photos with a resolution of up to 8 megapixels. There is a single-tone flash, but there is no autofocus.

There is HDR technology, white balance and ISO adjustment, flicker reduction, face recognition, automatic shutter release when a smile is detected, etc. Available modes: Normal, Panorama, QR Scanner, Polaroid, Auto Retouch.

The Polaroid mode is a set of functions for processing photos: dividing the photo into 2 or 4 parts, 17 filters and 14 frames to choose from, as well as the ability to add text, geotags and dates under the photo.

The main camera shoots video in HD 720p 30 fps, with electronic image stabilization. File type: 3gp

The front camera shoots video with a frame size of 640x480, also with stabilization, also 3gp.

Results and conclusions

In terms of functionality, Alcatel PIXI 4 is not very different from older phones with a rotary dialer. There are essentially only two differences, the first of which is mobility, wireless connection, and the second is some kind of camera, and it is understood that it will be used infrequently. The inconvenient location of the control buttons on the side, the mediocre quality of the screen and the catastrophic lack of memory spoil the overall impression of this unit. Regarding the cost of the smartphone, if you buy it on sale from Beeline for 3990 rubles, then in this case the shortcomings described in the review do not hurt the user’s pride so much, because For that kind of money, there are few places where you will find a working, well-assembled device, also with LTE. In addition, the color palette of the rear panel is quite diverse. But the price is 7500 rubles. for a “pure” PIXI 4 it can produce the exact opposite effect to the one described above.

Pros:

  • Big screen
  • LTE support
  • Price (subject to special conditions)
  • Front camera with flash
  • Polaroid mode
Minuses:
  • Lack of autofocus even on the main camera
  • Quiet main speaker combined with conversational speaker
  • Mediocre quality shooting from both cameras
  • Inconvenient location of the power button
  • Screen quality leaves much to be desired
  • Very little internal memory
  • Weak battery
When we started writing this article, or rather a mini-review, we thought about the “introductory part” for quite some time. How can we present a new product, sales of which began not so long ago in the Beeline operator’s communication stores, as another budget smartphone with LTE or as another bright representative of the PIXI 3 Family line from Alcatel. In principle, both approaches to the announcement are fair. In January 2015, at CES 2015, Alcatel announced the launch of a new line of smartphones Alcatel One Touch, which was called PIXI 3. Quite a lot of devices were announced within this line, and it’s not difficult to get confused. Judge for yourself, if earlier, for example, in response to the question “What phone do you have?”, for example, Nokia or Samsung - everything was more or less clear, now, even if the owner answers you - Alcatel PIXI3, then this is not will say absolutely nothing. Why? Because the PIXI3 line of smartphones has many different modifications. There are both 3G and 4G/LTE devices here. Screen sizes also differ within the line, so you can find 3.5" devices that fit in your pocket or their 5" versions. At the same time, some of the models differ not only in screen diagonal, the presence or absence of 4G (and therefore different chips used in a smartphone), but also the OS installed on them - in the PIXI 3 line you can find both familiar Android or Windows Phone, and Firefox OS. Which of course brings some confusion. The only way to “identify” a particular phone model of a given family is to indicate the model, i.e. her numbers.

And in today's mini-review we will look at Alcatel One Touch PIXI 3 (4.5) 5017X. Here you need to pay attention to the model - 5017X, because... in the PIXI 3 line there are several different devices with a 4.5" screen, even similar in appearance, but at the same time having completely different technical characteristics. Returning to our device (5017X), we note that its sales started in Beeline just last week and the price of the device is within the framework of the promotion, i.e. when connecting to a certain package of services, it is only 3990 rubles. Which, you see, is not so expensive for an LTE smartphone with a 4.5" display and modern Android 5.1 on board. We would like to note in advance that MTS also sells a 4.5" device from the PIXI3 family, but this is a completely different model - 4027D, which does not have 4G/LTE due to an earlier chip from MediaTek, which simply does not support it. We once again emphasize your pay attention to the model, because the name is Alcatel One Touch PIXI 3 (4.5) in this case only says that the device belongs to a certain line, but does not reveal it in any way technical characteristics.

In this review, one of the bloggers has already compared the 4027D and 5017X models, so we will not dwell on the comparison in detail. And let's move on directly to considering the technical characteristics of our device.

  • Memory- RAM 1 GB + ROM 8 GB, support MicroSD up to 32 GB. At the same time, by default, about 3.5 GB of free space is available for storing user data. By the way, this is a general trend in smartphones with Android Lollipop, i.e. If the device comes with Android 5.x and the specifications indicate 8 Gb of internal memory, be prepared for the fact that about half of it, i.e. The OS itself takes up about 4 Gb
  • operating system- Android Lollipop 5.1
  • Display- TFT, 4.5 inches, 480*854; color 16M

Alcatel One Touch PIXI 3 (4.5) 5017X (rear view)

As you can see, the device fits quite easily (and comfortably) in your hand. The case is made in the form of a candy bar on the front panel of which there is a speaker and touch control buttons in the form of a triangle, circle and square. These are the typefaces he uses operating system Android 5.1 for smartphones that do not have hardware control buttons. Here they are, so you don’t have to worry about the space taken up on the screen with “soft” control buttons. On the back everything is standard - Alcatel OneTouch and Pixi logos, as well as a 5 MPix main camera and LED flash. On the right side of the case there is a volume rocker and a power button, at the bottom there is a connector for connecting a microUSB cable and charging:

The smartphone comes in three colors - black, white and pink. We got black, or rather volcanic black (Volcano Black), as Alcatel correctly calls it. After turning on the device for the first time, it seemed to us that it took quite a long time to initialize, however initial setup connections to WiFi networks And Google account It didn’t take long, and a worker appeared before us Android desk 5.1. A few screenshots from the interface you can see below:

As you can see, the default memory available to the user in the device is approximately 3.50 GB, and in the popular test AnTuTu Benchmark v5.7.1 Alcatel 5017X scores 19421 points, which is quite a decent result for a budget device with LTE. As for communications, the device caught the network quickly and without problems, there are no particular complaints about the quality of transmission of spoken language (we read “as everywhere else”), however, do not forget that if you purchased this device from Beeline, then by default you will be able to use it is only available with SIM cards from this operator (there is even a corresponding inscription about this on the box “the smartphone is initially configured to work in the Beeline network”). When you try to insert a SIM from another operator into it, the Alcatel 5017X will ask you for a special device code (network unlock code):

After successfully entering this, the phone can be used with any SIM. One of the ways to obtain an unlock code is to order it on our trading platform. The advantage of this method is to instantly receive the network unlock code for Alcatel 5017X at any time convenient for you. To place an order, you will need to know the IMEI of your device (15-digit number), which can be found on the sticker / on the box or, better yet, by typing the combination on the phone itself *#06# .
