Samsung decided a long time ago that the company should make money in the budget and mid-range segments and not offer any discounts to compete with competitors’ models. Therefore most Samsung models up to 20,000 rubles is significantly more expensive than its competitors, although it offers a number of advantages, for example, SuperAMOLED screens, as well as the resulting operating time. In 2018, the lineup does not look very logical. So, they refused to update the A-series, they only expanded it with the A6/A6+, which are not bad in themselves, but they have a completely inadequate cost, which completely negates their positioning. Samsung immediately after the release reduced the prices for these devices, which only confirms the mistake with pricing, but still the cost remains far from the real one and what buyers expect.

Before the announcement of the J4/J6, the most important question was only one - what price Samsung would set for these models, since their sales depended on this. We will return to this issue a little later, but for now I want to dwell on the strong and weaknesses these devices.

Model design - a choice for every taste, old and new trends

Let's put J4 and J6 side by side to understand that in terms of aesthetics these are models from different generations. They have a similar body design, both are made of metal-like plastic, but in the younger device you see under the screen mechanical button, aka a fingerprint sensor.

In J6, the sensor was moved to the back side, as the screen was made to occupy the front surface as much as possible.

The first thing that catches your eye is the refusal to change microUSB to USB Type C, and it is conscious, Samsung confirmed to me several times that this is not a matter of cost. In my opinion, this may not be fundamental for the mass consumer, but the transition to USB Type C is obvious, and it would be best to have it here.

Another point is the lack of both NFC in both models and support Samsung Pay. This is one of the company’s key features, and it is also necessary in mid-segment models; this is a strong offer, which was removed here, which is sad.

Different screen geometry, the J4 seems to me to be pot-bellied and wide, while the J6 fits perfectly in the hand, and due to the elongated screen it looks very good.

Let's take a look at the technical characteristics of these devices.

I would like to make a reservation right away that I had a J4 with a different memory configuration - 2/16 GB. I don't know if this is a press release error (probably not) or if I just received the wrong model. Make allowances for this.

Inside is Android 8.0, with the Samsung Experience 9.0 interface, which makes the devices as easy to understand as possible. Inside there is everything you could need - file manager, voice recorder, various enhancements standard programs. Little things, but without them it’s like having no hands.

The performance of the devices is far from record-breaking, but everything is good in the interface, and in my case the J6 is noticeably faster, which is easily explained by the different memory. In a 3/32 GB configuration, J4/J6 will work equally fast. Look at the performance of these solutions.

This is the performance of the J4.

But this is what J6 has.

It’s surprising that the relatively junior model did not add face recognition and corresponding unlocking; this option is only available in the J6. It works well, does not cause any complaints (there is accelerated and regular unlocking, no iris scanning).

The quality of the screens is excellent, there are no complaints here, but the AlwaysOn Display mode is missing; in standby mode, no information is shown on the screen. This is also a conscious decision; the younger models in the line should be different from the flagships. And this is sad, because I would like a unity of solutions that is not artificial - the flagships have enough features that attract buyers anyway.

The strong point for both models is the battery, although at first glance it does not strike the imagination - 3000 mAh, which is not much. In fact, it is perfectly optimized, for example, at maximum screen brightness, HD video playback time will be at least 18 hours! This is thanks to the SuperAMOLED screen.

But here it should be noted that in ordinary life it turns out to be about two days of work with 7-9 hours of screen time (automatic brightness adjustment). This is a definite achievement for its segment; competitors with large batteries cannot provide similar performance. This is the time for comments to appear that your device works the same or even more, but measurements must be carried out under the same conditions (brightness, operator, and so on - it won’t work anymore, it will turn out less).

The main camera in both models is the same, 13 megapixels (f/1.9), there are additional modes, but they are very simple. Look at examples of pictures and videos (maximum resolution FullHD, 30 frames per second). You can also take a look at the camera interface.

Sample photos

But the front cameras are different, in the J4 it is 5 megapixels, the pictures are very simple.

In the J6, the resolution of the front camera is slightly higher, there is a bokeh effect, when you can blur the background in the editor to get a more expressive portrait.

In real life, I really like the J6 – grippy, modern, comfortable. At the same time, the J4 is suitable for those who are nostalgic for the fingerprint sensor on the front panel and who miss it. It’s nice that the slot is not a combination slot, that is, you can install two SIM cards and a memory card and won’t have any problems. The performance of the J6 is higher due to the chipset, so here too the device is more interesting.

In this price category there are many models from different companies, often their filling looks more interesting (more random access memory, metal case, and so on), but they have ordinary screens and noticeably shorter operating time. Moreover, remembering the Nokia 5.1, which was shown the other day and which costs about 16-17 thousand rubles with 2/16 GB memory and a chipset from MediaTek, I have no questions about the J6, it is noticeably better.

Another thing is that there are other, more interesting offers that may attract you. But the J6 has an interesting filling, and the operating time will captivate many; this model definitely shouldn’t be written off. Yes, it is not too cheap, but the price in this case is justified. In the Samsung line, the Galaxy J5 2017 is closest to the device; this model costs 14,990 rubles. Smaller screen diagonal, worse performance, front camera and the list goes on, these are devices of different generations, and I would still look at the new product.

But the J4 has a competitor, the J7 2017, and, in my opinion, the new product looks better - the old model costs 16,990 rubles, the difference in cost is not in its favor. Although the metal body is an advantage for some.

Detailed Reviews Both models will appear in the near future, for now these are just first glances and impressions, nothing more. What do you think of these models? What competitors do you see for them and how curious are you about them? Speak up.

Samsung covers all market segments, because putting all your eggs in one basket is reckless. Koreans understand this well, so every year they replenish their product line not only with flagships, but also with affordable devices.

Recently a mid-range model was released with modest parameters by today's standards, but with a fashionable widescreen screen. However, its manufacturer decided to simplify it by putting worst camera and replacing the metal case with a plastic one, the size of the AMOLED display and its format remained the same, and the processor and battery were also left untouched.

As a result of small transformations, we received a budget Galaxy J6 with a price reduced by one and a half times. An attractive option, you'll agree. Let's learn more about this device to find out if it's worth buying for $230.

Specifications

Equipment

The box with a blue lid and model designation contained a typical set of accessories for Samsung budget employees. Unfortunately, the case was not found inside the package; you will have to buy more. The list of delivery kits is as follows:

  • charger 5V/1A;
  • microUSB cable;
  • headset;
  • paperclip;
  • documentation.

Design, ergonomics and materials

The similarity is clearly visible visually Samsung Galaxy J6 with Galaxy A6 model. This is, let's say, unexpected, given the fundamental differences in the materials of the case.

What is immediately noticeable is the absence of shaped antenna output strips in a budget phone, since a plastic smartphone does not need this. Otherwise, everything is quite decent, the device looks nice and not cheap. If you place the device in a purchased case, you can completely forget that the case is plastic.

The J-series widescreen fits perfectly in the hand, since the width is very small. Back cover tenacious. It takes a lot of effort to make the device fall out of your palm. There is no metal frame here, however, the body feels durable and solid. The phone is inexpensive, but has a high-quality build, there are no crunches, squeaks or loose components. There are three color options - gray, black and gold. The device weighs 153 grams and has the following proportions: 149.3 × 70.2 × 8.2 mm.

Above the display, under which 76 percent of the front 2.5 D glass was allocated, traditional elements found their place - an auditory speaker, a front camera with a flash and sensors. There is not much space left at the bottom; there are no physical buttons or a company logo, which is good.

The left side is occupied by a volume control and two trays; the first holds a memory card, and the other holds a pair of nanoSIM cards. The power button and the main speaker slot are located on the right edge. On the bottom edge there is a 3.5 mm jack, a microUSB port and a microphone. Nothing else was found for the upper end; it is empty. The camera and finger scanner on the back are not combined into one unit, as in the Galaxy A6, but separated.

Screen

I was pleased with the company’s decision not to skimp on the display in a budget smartphone. The SuperAMOLED matrix is juicy, contrasty and bright. The resolution of the 5.6-inch 18.5:9 screen has also not changed - 1480 × 720 pixels.

The picture is clear and does not change its properties at any angle. White and black shades are traditionally very deep. The visibility of the data in the sun is not satisfactory. If the high color saturation of the Adaptive mode is not for you, you can use the Basic mode with more subdued tones. In general, the display of the Galaxy J6 is in perfect order, which cannot be said about the internal filling, but more on that later.

Technical parameters and performance

The basis for the inexpensive new Samsung product is the 8-core Exynos 7870 platform. The Galaxy A6 has exactly the same processor. Therefore, in terms of hardware power, both phones are identical. The performance of the device causes conflicting feelings.

Benchmarks evaluate the filling decently; in the same AnTuTu, the budget device scores a decent 60 thousand points. But the smartphone is not very friendly with demanding games; its maximum is medium, but more often the minimum graphics settings. But even in this case, twitches cannot be avoided, because the weak link in the technical equipment is rather not the processor, but the weak Mali-T830 MP1 accelerator embedded in it. However, the chipset has a modern 14 Nm process technology, which is a plus for autonomy.

If you are not a gamer, Galaxy specifications J6 will be enough for you. With ordinary tasks everything is fine here, because the amount of RAM is as much as 3 GB LPDDR3. The situation with the flash drive is also excellent; its capacity is 32 GB, of which almost 10 GB are spent on the system.

Autonomy

A thin technical process paired with a 3000 mAh battery gives good results in terms of operating time. By charging your smartphone once, you can hope for 2 days of operation if the load is light. A more active usage scenario will result in the phone needing to be charged every day. However, he will live from morning to evening in any case. The battery is filled with energy to 100 percent in 2.5 hours using the included AC adapter.

Communication, sensors and sound

The Korean state employee is provided with the necessary minimum funds wireless connection, we get Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi and GPS and GLONASS signal receivers. Alas, there is no NFC sensor, so you will have to forget about contactless payments, this is the price for saving.

All LTE bands are available for operation within our country, as well as FM radio. The list of sensors is extensive - a finger scanner, a Hall sensor, proximity and light sensors, a compass and an accelerometer.

The fingerprint area is narrow, but still the fingerprint is almost always read the first time. Not without the now trendy face scanning function for unlocking; face recognition takes 3 seconds.

The call speaker is loud and has excellent audibility even in noisy environments. But it cannot boast of any special quality; you will hardly get pleasure from the abundance of high frequencies and distortion at high volumes. Dolby Atmos technology is supported. The hero of the review sounds good in headphones. By playing with equalizers, you can achieve a pleasant sound.

Software equipment

The system interface is familiar to users Samsung phones. We are dealing with the proprietary Experience 9.0 shell, which is based on Android 8.0 Oreo. In this regard, it is completely similar to the more expensive Galaxy A6 model. Accordingly, the operation of the system and its functionality are at the same level. The speed is not bad, but by no means ideal. There is customization and a wide range of settings.

Cameras

The device was equipped with a single rear camera of 13 megapixels with an f/1.9 aperture. The proprietary S5K3L2 matrix is used. The photo module is complemented by an LED flash and phase detection autofocus. The sensor is budget, so the quality of the images is adequate. However, their quality, considering the price of the device, is not bad with sufficient detail, especially on a sunny day.

If there is not enough light, the photos are obtained with not entirely natural colors and with noticeable noise, and also narrows dynamic range, well, that's expected. The camera is equipped with RAW support and the ability to adjust white balance, sensitivity level and other parameters manually. You can also shoot simple video in 1080p.

The selfie camera comes with a resolution of 8 megapixels and an f/1.9 aperture. The pictures are of average quality. There is software background blur, but in fact it is nothing more than a hint of a bokeh effect.

Conclusion

Is the Samsung Galaxy J6 worth the money? It’s hard to say, but for those who don’t fundamentally look away Chinese smartphones, the Korean state employee will probably like it. A chic display, separate trays, a powerful shell and a global brand can be a good argument.

  • excellent display;
  • autonomy;
  • memory card + two SIM cards;
  • nice design;
  • face unlock.
  • heavy games go poorly;
  • medium chambers;
  • microUSB;
  • external speaker;
  • body material.

Short video review:

The design of the Samsung Galaxy J6 (2018) does not shine with novelty. At the same time, the device turned out to be neat and modern in appearance.

The front panel of the smartphone, as usual, is filled with glass. A frameless display is used here, but it does not extend onto the sides, like the expensive Galaxy S. Therefore, the screen still has small frames.

On the back side, the dominant features include the manufacturer's logo and a camera unit with a fingerprint sensor.

The back cover is made of plastic. Overall design new Galaxy The J6 (2018) echoes last year's Galaxy A series. There is also a chassis that protrudes on the sides and ends, while the thickness of the rim increases towards the ends. The only difference is that the back side is not filled with glass, but has a plastic cover. This, by the way, made the device a little thinner.

Upon closer comparison of smartphones, it becomes clear that the design is only similar. Gadgets have different proportions.

Overall, the smartphone turned out to be quite nice. You don’t expect any frills from devices at this price level, so a neat but unoriginal appearance is not an argument in favor of lowering the design score by at least half a point.

Connectors and controls

There are no buttons on the front panel.

Functional Android buttons turned into icons on the display. The display itself has grown, as a result, there is no room left even for the logo on the front panel of the Samsung Galaxy J6 (2018).

Only above the screen you can see the speaker and the windows of the camera and sensors.

On the back there is a single camera. To the right of it is a flash. Below the camera you can see a fingerprint sensor. It is moved away from the lens. The sensor is quite convenient to use, although it itself, in our opinion, is a bit small.

On the right side there is a slot for the speakerphone and a button to turn on the screen.

On the left side there is a volume control. It is made in the form of two separate buttons. Underneath there are two compartments that can be opened with a special key, which can be an ordinary paper clip.

The compartments open easily. One contains space for SIM-1, the second for SIM-2 and microSD cards. Note that Samsung did not make a combined slot, so you can install both a memory card and operator cards. In our video you can see how to insert a SIM card into the Samsung Galaxy J6 (2018).

There are no connectors or controls on the top end.

On the bottom we find microUSB, a headphone jack and a microphone.

Samsung Galaxy J6 (2018) supports two types of biometric authorization: fingerprint and facial recognition.

The Galaxy J line is an affordable smartphone, so don't expect innovation here. However, the appearance of facial recognition in this segment can be considered some progress. Adding a face occurs in the standard way. First you need to install alternative way authorization, then agree that protection is not guaranteed, look at the display. The face is not registered as quickly as on top smartphones. The process takes 10-20 seconds. Authorization works much faster. Our video will tell you more about this:

Scanning a fingerprint is also standard: add a PIN (password, gesture), then touch the scanner for a long time. Its area is small, so you will have to poke the pad into the sensor several times. Then the smartphone will ask you to rotate your finger at an angle of 90 degrees. As a result, the fingerprint was added. Our video will tell you more about this:

The fingerprint scanner is used both to unlock the smartphone and for confirmations in Samsung Pass.

Case for Samsung Galaxy J6 (2018)

Samsung is releasing one variant of the case for the Galaxy J6 (2018). Later, other cases from third-party manufacturers will appear on the market.

The simplest plastic bumper costs 1,199 rubles. It protects your smartphone from scratches as well as shocks.

Galaxy J6 (2018) screen

Samsung Galaxy J6 (2018) has a 5.6-inch SuperAMOLED display. OLED technology in this line is also new for 2018. The company clearly wants to compete with others with better and brighter screens. IPS have already become quite cheap and cannot justify the brand's price premium.

The aspect ratio of the screen is 18.5:9. The resolution is low: 1480x720 pixels. In this case we have a regular HD display. Pixel density - 294 ppi. Formally, the screen does not reach “printed” 300 dpi. However, it still has very good clarity.

Subjectively, the color rendition of the gadget is excellent, the brightness reserve is also quite large, especially since there is also a setting for the street, which increases it by 15%.

Also in the smartphone settings there is a blue filter, the ability to select one of the color profiles, and adjust both the color temperature as a whole and the saturation of individual RGB components.

Let's look at objective data. The display brightness is not the highest. It is 302.37 cd/m2. More expensive Samsung devices get brighter displays. However, the screen will still show well in the sun thanks to the high contrast of SuperAMOLED. The only negative is that the screen’s automatic brightness adjustment has been artificially removed.

Color temperature graph is typical for Samsung displays of this type. The main profile has a temperature as close as possible to natural 6500K. Adaptive is inflated to 8000-8500K, like most smartphones.

The picture is similar with the color gamut. The main profile has a coverage greater than the sRGB range, the adaptive profile is even wider, but due to the cold part of the spectrum.

The gamma curve is not ideal, but close to the standard.

Samsung Galaxy J6 (2018) supports 5 touches.

Galaxy J6 (2018) camera

Samsung Galaxy J6 (2018) does not have fancy dual cameras. Also missing here is the Korean company's innovative mobile camera with variable aperture.

Here we have two standard cameras, relatively speaking, from the past. The main one has a resolution of 13 megapixels, the front one has 8 megapixels. Both cameras shoot Full HD video.

The lack of hardware innovation doesn't mean cameras can't do some fancy things.

Interface Galaxy cameras J6 (2018) is the same as other 2018 smartphones. Here, shooting modes are placed on the top ribbon. For the main camera, you can choose a professional one with customization of all parameters, food, panorama, auto, HDR, beauty and stickers.

Beauty – smart mode for portraits. Here you can tighten your skin, improve its tone, etc. There are three options for the face. Stickers – AI mode with adding funny stickers to photos. Of course, it’s not as cool as more expensive smartphones, but its presence is good news.

We also note that the flash and filter buttons have moved closer to the shutter buttons. All modes are common for video and photo, so by pressing the red button, the user will simply start shooting video.

The front camera interface is no different. There are fewer modes here: selfie focus, selfie, wide-angle selfie and stickers. Selfie focus differs from a simple selfie by adding a software background blur effect, or rather, the camera simply focuses at a distance of 50-70 cm, and everything else is blurred.

Same as on other smartphones Samsung settings The cameras are common for the front and main ones. This includes the grid, geotags, shooting methods, and you can set the resolution of photos and videos.

The main camera takes 13-megapixel photos.

The camera takes clear pictures. She has good color rendition. She copes well with contrasting scenes. In general, it is clear that for the sake of a good picture, it is not necessary to have a dual mobile device.

Using the main camera you can shoot Full HD video.

The camera records high-quality videos.

The image resolution of the front camera is only 8 megapixels.

The front camera took surprisingly good pictures. Especially at close range. More distant objects are naturally out of focus. We can say that it will make good selfies, and with video communication it will also give a good picture.

The video is of fairly good quality.

Specifications Samsung Galaxy J6 (2018)

Samsung Galaxy J6 (2018) belongs to the third-rank Samsung line. However, in 2018 its characteristics are noticeably better than those of representatives of this line two years ago.

The characteristics of the Samsung Galaxy J6 (2018) are quite modest by modern standards. The Samsung platform used is not the latest. She was given a “lift” by increasing the RAM capacity.

Samsung Galaxy J6 (2018) received an Exynos 7870 processor with 8 Cortex-A53 cores with a frequency of 1.6 GHz. But it has 3 GB of RAM. The processor also received Mali-T830 MP1 graphics. Its weakest modification. Of course, this processor is enough for everyday tasks and most games, but over time it will still begin to slow down.

Note that in 2017, the Samsung Galaxy J5 (2017) was made on the same platform, only with less RAM capacity.

The set of communication modules is limited to Wi-Fi 802.11n and Bluetooth 4.2, 802.11ac and Bluetooth 5.0 are not yet for this price category. We also have a navigation module and a set of sensors. There is no NFC, which means Samsung Pay will not work.

The cameras have already been mentioned. Single, as if they came to us from 2016. The battery capacity is standard for today's times, 3000 mAh. In combination with a not-so-fast chip, it could provide good battery life, but the SupeAMOLED screen will take its toll.

Performance testing

The rival of the Samsung Galaxy J6 (2018) is its predecessor. The smartphones have the same platforms, but the new one has more RAM. At the same time, it has a larger display. It is likely that it will be more productive, but will lose the autonomy test.

In the GeekBench test new smartphone confidently outperforms the old one.

It also has a noticeable advantage in the JetStream browser benchmark, thanks to the extra gigabyte of memory.

Let's see what the devices show in AnTuTu.

In the comprehensive AnTuTu test, we have almost two times the superiority of the 2018 model. Apparently, not only RAM plays a role, but also optimizations of the new Android.

The smartphones have the same battery, but the new product has a larger display. We are waiting for the victory of the previous model.

The autonomy measured by ours turned out to be better than that of the Galaxy J6 (2018). The difference, of course, is small, so on occasion it can be attributed to an error, but it could also have been caused by Android optimizations. For our set of tasks, the new product spent 16% of the charge, and the old model – 18%.

The leader in the chart of “gluttony” 3D graphics. Otherwise everything is typical. Note the low consumption at rest.

The battery can be managed through the Optimizing phone settings section. Here you can find not only energy saving, but also disk cleaning and other features. Energy saving settings are standard. Two preset modes, the ability to disable applications in background. There are energy consumption statistics.

Games on Samsung Galaxy J6 (2018)

Gaming is no longer a serious challenge for smartphones. The performance of even average platforms is clearly excessive.

  • Riptide GP2: excellent, everything flies;

  • Asphalt 7: excellent, everything flies;

  • Asphalt 8: excellent, everything flies;

  • Modern Combat 5: excellent, everything flies;

Samsung Galaxy J6 (2018) did an excellent job with all games, as expected.

Samsung Galaxy J6 (2018) comes with Android system 8.0.

Samsung Galaxy J6 (2018) has two default home screens. The main folders are located Google applications and Microsoft, search bar, weather widget and clock. You can customize the interface without an application menu, when all the icons will be scattered across several desktops.

Left swipe brings up the Bixby screen. Unfortunately, out of all the variety of functions of the Samsung Assistant on the Galaxy J6 (2018), only cards are available, where you can add various applications that the user wants to always have at hand. By default, it was mainly Yandex that sucked us in.

The set of applications has not changed fundamentally. As usual, let's focus on branded and third party software. Microsoft and Google supply a standard list.

The Yandex application is present. Naturally, it contains the voice assistant Alice. Alice can also be accessed from the Yandex card located on the Bixby screen. You can and should talk to Alice just to evaluate how she works. Whether it fits into daily practice is a matter of taste.

The smartphone does not have NFC, which means there is no Samsung Pay. However, the Russian management application Ubank bank cards and making payments on the spot. It also has additional services such as checking traffic fines.

The Samsung store will help you buy other gadgets from the company. The smartphone also has Galaxy Apps.

Conclusion

Samsung Galaxy J6 (2018) – cute and convenient smartphone in the bottom price range. It is not outrageously cheap, but it offers sought-after functionality at a reasonable price.

Samsung is gradually improving the status of the Galaxy J line. The new product has a Super AMOLED display, a fingerprint scanner, and facial recognition.

Of course, the company saved a little: on cameras, platform, display resolution, but all these parameters are at the level of more expensive smartphones from two years ago.

It remains to be seen what happens to the price.

Samsung Galaxy J6 (2018) price

It is offered to buy Galaxy J6 (2018) for 15,990 rubles. Competition in this segment is high.

Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus has a 5.99-inch display with a resolution of 1080x2160, that is, Full HD, although the screen is made using LCD technology. It has 12 and 5 megapixel cameras, a similar set wireless modules. However, a smartphone has more powerful processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 625. Battery capacity – 4000 mAh. For all this they demand 14,000 rubles.

Was there for us to review and left good impressions. The smartphone for 15,000 rubles has a 5.6-inch screen with a resolution of 2160x1080 pixels, dual main and front camera with a resolution of 13 megapixels, a Kirin 659 processor is used, comparable to Samsung. Battery capacity 3000 mAh.

Meizu M6s for 15,000 rubles has a slightly less strong position. It has a display with a resolution of 720x1440 pixels, single cameras with a resolution of 16 and 8 megapixels, a slightly less powerful Samsung Exynos 7872 processor, but with Mali-G71 graphics. 3000 mAh battery.

Pros:

  • high-quality assembly;
  • there is a fingerprint scanner and face recognition;
  • AMOLED display;
  • good autonomy;
  • good cameras;
  • attractive price.

Minuses:

  • banal design;
  • lack of some modern technologies.

New budget phones from Samsung, with their announcement and confusing story around press releases and regional targeting, completely confused the end buyer. All three versions have their own differences, thanks to which they can be easily recognized, but at the same time, some of them look like something from the past generation and none of them have completely absorbed all the fashion trends of our time. The middle of these devices has become a kind of transitional link between the other two, serving as a compromise solution for those who do not want either excessive simplicity and archaism, or incomprehensible overpayments for unknown advantages. A review of the Samsung Galaxy J6 (2018) smartphone will answer all the questions that concern the future buyer and tell you whether it is recommended for purchase.

Design and ergonomics

One of the devices in this line that has received an updated look and a high-quality display, following almost all newfangled trends. The case became plastic, instead of last year's metal, but this did not affect the quality of the final assembly or the overall appearance. It's still a sleek and modern-looking device, albeit with budget hardware.

At the back, on a panel in one of four possible colors, there is a fingerprint scanner, and right above it is the camera and its flash. The sensor is slightly recessed and framed by a border that can be clearly felt by the finger. You can reach it very easily, there is no inconvenience.

At the front is the Infinity Display, with minimal side bezels and thin protrusions at the top and bottom. There are no physical buttons; they are hidden on the display. On top there is a camera responsible for face unlocking, and several sensors that perform different functions - registering proximity, degree of illumination, and so on.

On the left there is a separate volume rocker and trays for SIM cards and MicroSD. It is separate, so you don’t have to make compromises between expanded memory and a second operator for calls or create a “sandwich”.

On the contrary, on the right is the power button and, unexpectedly, an external speaker. It is positioned in such a way that it is unlikely to ever be blocked by the fingers of one of the hands, so it is a good solution. At the bottom are all the connectors, 3.5 mm and microUSB. The audio can also be used as an antenna for FM radio, which is present here and works when connected to a supplied or other headset. Software implementation This function can also please you - everything is convenient and extremely clear.

Display

Thanks to the thin side frames, the device looks expensive and quite beautiful. The indentations at the bottom and top are made large, compared to the same series A, but at the same time they are neat and incomparably more symmetrical - the width is absolutely the same on both sides. It did not receive rounded corners, so it cannot be said that Samsung has completely succumbed to the invasion of FullView displays, only slightly catching them in the budget series. SuperAMOLED is as always bright and colorful, the color reproduction is very accurate, but sometimes too saturated. However, everything can be corrected in the settings, so you shouldn’t be upset about this at all. The visibility of all elements is excellent even in bright sunlight, the black color looks really black, much like on Clear Black displays from Microsoft, which have a regular AMOLED installed, but this color still looks richer.

The resolution is small, but it is more than enough. In the settings it is possible to lower it, but this should be done with great caution, since such a function is only suitable for saving more battery. The display temperature can be adjusted in the same place as the brightness in manual mode. This helps to more accurately adjust all parameters in a way that is more convenient for the owner’s eye. The viewing angles are excellent, it is impossible to see any color deformations either horizontally or vertically.

Performance and benchmarks

Exynos smartphones are not the best purchase in terms of performance. Even flagship S models suffer from this property. Insufficient optimization and, probably, Google's reluctance to use anything other than Qualcomm processors are taking their toll. A fairly powerful representative of this is used here. model range, 7870, with eight cores that have different frequencies in order to save as much battery power as possible. In ordinary tasks, such as watching videos and working in simple applications, the chipset feels great. All operations are carried out without delay, with excellent smoothness. If you use the multitasking mode, for which there is a separate on-screen button, you may notice some slowdowns, but even here they will not be critical.

Gaming capabilities are not the best, but at the same time graphics accelerator capable of pulling out any representatives at least on minimal graphics settings. If the owner is not chasing the latest titles, he can be content with the older ones in all their glory, without lowering the settings.

The benchmarks have absolutely predictable results, which confirms the device as a strong budget device without too outstanding properties:

  • AnTuTu – 45500 points.
  • Geekbench – 730 and 3750 in tests using one and all cores, respectively.
  • 3Dmark - 1770 points in Sling Shot, and 12800 in Ice Storm.

Cameras and photos

The main 13-megapixel module is capable of excellent photography during the day, both in bright sun and in cloudy weather. Otherwise, the quality becomes unimportant, small details disappear and everything that can is washed away. This is especially noticeable at night, when the noise reduction begins to completely smooth out irregularities even where it is not necessary, since the algorithm incorrectly determines the boundaries of objects.

The front camera has the ability to unlock by face and as many as 8 megapixels. It removes well, but the beauty filter will have to be either turned off or adjusted to a softer setting. With it, selfies come out too doll-like and unnatural. There are bright frames and overlays, right inside standard application cameras. It is also responsible for the manual mode and does a good job with subsequent editing thanks to several interesting functions, including applying filters and cropping. Videos are shot on both cameras in FullHD format, this is a hardware limitation of the chipset. You can also set a finer resolution, but the videos may lose a lot of clarity, especially if they are shot on the front camera.

Interface and features

Branded add-on Android Samsung Experience has several advantages that easily outweigh its disadvantages. Being rather sluggish, it is capable of normally using multitasking mode and immediately calling pairs of applications configured by the owner. In addition to standard widgets, more exotic ones can also be called. Their functionality is somewhat limited, but this does not interfere with their brevity and design style that is consistent with the entire system. Thanks to this, they blend well with the icons and search fields on the main screen.

Knox, in addition to running in a protected environment, can serve as a “sandbox”, allowing you to have several identical applications. You just need to copy what you need there, for example, Viber and configure it separately for the second SIM card. This is convenient if one number is used as a work number, and the second as a personal one.

Autonomy and battery

3000 mAh is not much by modern standards, but it is enough to use this phone for a whole day without thinking about recharging. The reason for this result may be either an energy-efficient processor, which shows excellent economical results, or a low screen resolution by modern standards. It can be further reduced in the settings, especially if a few percent of the battery is missing from getting home, and staying in touch is always required.

Results, advantages and disadvantages

The device turned out to be balanced, but a little expensive for its filling. But this distinguishing feature any Samsung, since this manufacturer’s focus is not on gigahertz with cool cameras, but on reliability and quality of workmanship. The J6 is fine with these parameters, especially considering that it has a very good platform, which, even in modern tasks, can surprise with its speed of operation.
