How to flash BIOS

I’ll say right away that if you have never had to change firmware chips of the basic input/output system and you have never thought about the need for a sense of action, then it’s better not to touch anything! Consequences of incorrect flashing BIOS may be sad to the point of having to appear c motherboard to the service center. Why do you even need to do anything with the contents of the BIOS chip? If everything works great for you, then there is absolutely no need. In this case, things can only get worse. You should think about the need to change firmware in the following cases:

Flashing for DOS

However, it was suspected that some changes were made even if the machines were not connected to the Internet and were not connected to home network. The fact that disabled computers with the infection were working on it resulted in the computers passing encrypted data packets, and communication only stopped when they disabled their microphones and speakers. If this computer wizard wasn't grinding, someone was running a "cracked" one that many may not have been safe in front of. Ryuyu points out his suspicions.

You bought a new product. Since there is fierce competition in the market today, any manufacturer is trying to release its motherboard model before its competitors do. As a result, the quality of the microcode suffers, since programmers working for the motherboard manufacturer are limited in time - after all, they need to be in time for the release. Because of this, the firmware BIOS of new products is sometimes crude - either there is no support for certain devices (certain models of processors, memory and other hardware), or the source code is written so crookedly that glitches pop up literally after every click. If not all hardware is detected or the system is working frankly glitchy, it makes sense to reflash the BIOS;

It can be said that such a complex thing was born only by institutions that have the necessary resources and a lot of money, probably covered by the government. Why has no one ever reported such an experience, perhaps because it was simply a review of a prototype admitted to a professional environment, perhaps an attempt to uncover the spy community.

The fact is that mathematicians, especially those who excel, are very close to things like autism. It is not a disease, but its frequent accompanying features, in addition to technical talents, are a feeling of misunderstanding, deprivation, depression, and the assumption that the environment is trying to deliberately harm them. Whether this will be the case and the logical idea of the gifted Dragos Rui will be a great deal of speculation. Why, and who plans such horrors, we probably will not know. We're adding contributions from Pavel Kolář's discussion because he explains and improves on a number of things that his summary doesn't need to match.

If, on the contrary, you have an ancient (moderate) motherboard, and you bought a newfangled CPU, which, in principle, fits into the socket, but the motherboard categorically refuses to identify the stone. But this can only help if the website of your motherboard manufacturer has a new version firmware, and in the list of what is corrected in the updated microcode, it says: “yes, the new firmware version adds such and such a processor to the list of devices supported by such and such a motherboard.” If nothing like this is said on the official website of your motherboard, the firmware will either not bring any benefit, or, if done incorrectly, will lead to damage to the equipment;

According to almost any image printed on color laser printer, you can determine serial number, type and method and how the printer was sold or where it was printed by placing the yellow pigment dots. 4: In today's efforts to observe anyone and anything!

5: Everyone mobile phone can be observed, it is already possible to fight it, so they find another way to watch mobile! And around all major cities in the Czech Republic there are radio surveillance stations, usually three sometimes four, and why three or four? A simple rotation of a signal source that monitors comprehensive traffic on frequencies in their vicinity.

The contents of the BIOS chip have simply become corrupted for some reason (among them a poorly performed firmware operation or a virus infection).

Without doubting for a second that you thought ten times before doing it, I nevertheless consider it necessary to warn that the author of this article does not bear any responsibility for you carrying out everything that is described below.

In the past, we have tried to make the most of the sound group in music reproduction. So why the hell should manufacturers raise loudspeakers and microphones for computers? I don't think they would philanthropically post their products using technology that most people don't need and don't even pay for. After all, every cent of the cost in a million-dollar series will cost a lot!

But it definitely won't be a virus or any automated activity, the amount of human labor will be significantly different from zero. Good afternoon, this is really interesting. Nevertheless, file system does not start right at the beginning of the disc.

There are three ways to flash the firmware: one of Windows environment and at least two in DOS. Now we will analyze each of them in detail.

Flashing for Windows

First you need to acquire the necessary set of software. In this case, we will need a flashing program (usually comes on a CD that comes complete with the motherboard; if the required software is not found there, download the necessary software from the Internet, preferably from the manufacturer’s official website) and a binary file with the microcode itself, which will flashed into EEPROM. Now that everything is ready to go, TURN OFF ALL ANTI-VIRUSES and run the flashing program. In it we indicate the path to the binary file and start the flashing process. As a result, after a few minutes the contents of the EEPROM will be updated. This method is notable for its simplicity (does not require almost any knowledge on the part of the user), but is inferior in reliability to flashing from the DOS environment. For example, after performing the above operations from the “windows”, the temperature of the central processor in the BIOS may suddenly change to negative meaning. Other “surprises” cannot be ruled out.

We know it's really interesting. Otherwise, for the party and government to become a country. Of course, this is a fictitious phantom. Technically this would be possible, but it would require an almost secret conspiracy between the supplier and the manufacturer. The creator of the virus must have someone with the necessary leverage. Let's look at some US secret services. However, long-term secrecy must be ensured. They are smart and will not invest a lot of effort and resources into something that will soon turn out to be a devaluation of the money spent and discredit a number of production and other authorities.

Flashing for DOS

It is more reliable, since the process takes place in a calmer “environment” (there is much less system data loaded into RAM, so there will be fewer people “wishing” to glitch). But DOS is DOS with all the inherent command line advantages and disadvantages, therefore, the flashing process will be controlled using DOS commands. To work, we will need a flashing program, the firmware itself, and a floppy disk formatted as a system disk on which all this will be recorded and subsequently loaded. Attention! By flashing program we do not mean the software that I mentioned in the first method, but slightly different software. It must also be downloaded from the manufacturer’s website or, which is highly undesirable, from other resources (alternative code written by third-party developers). Off-site should be preferred to any software collapses because third party software may be written crookedly, and errors in the BIOS microcode are unacceptable and can lead to the inoperability of the entire system and the need to visit a service center. So, you have created a boot floppy disk, written the flash driver and firmware there and are ready for the process itself. But that is not all. The last step before flashing the firmware is editing the autoexec.bat file. Replace its contents with the following:

Even if such a large conspiracy existed, the solution described is not practical from a long-term secrecy standpoint, and it is likely a fictitious whole. People don't hear it, but there are hundreds of thousands, maybe millions, of electronics and audio equipment in the world that have the necessary equipment on their desks.

And he soon noticed a strange signal on the audible band and then drove off. For several reasons, it makes more sense to mix the transmitted data with other audio, such as a song in the audio strip. The human ear, even in the audio band, does not hear everything from an alternating signal.

if exist oldBIOS.bin goto old

awdflash.exe newBIOS.bin oldBIOS.bin /py /sy /cc /cp /cd /sb /r

awdflash.exe oldBIOS.bin /py /sn /cc /cp /cd /sb /r

Behind this incomprehensible cart lies a completely intuitive code that commands the actions of the flashing program. Let's figure out what's what. The contents of autoexec.bat force the computer to go through the following steps: saving to an old floppy disk BIOS version, firmware of a new version, and after rebooting the computer (if you do not have time to remove the floppy disk from the drive), it will be flashed in place of the updated microcode old version. The latter is useful if the updated firmware turns out to be crooked, and you need to restore the old microcode from the created backup. So, although we are preparing for the worst, we still hope for the best; we remove the floppy disk immediately after the system reboots. If after changing the BIOS firmware the computer flatly refuses to boot, calmly insert the floppy disk back and press Reset. Autoexec will do it yourself the right job to bring everything back to its original state.

On the other hand, there would be a microphone with another special chip that would extract the data from the audio signal. Maybe she could even think of a modulation that would be more resistant to various reflections and distortions and sound at low data rates to reach tens of meters.

Although somewhat impractical, such a secret system in combination with other systems could work well if people knew about it and were not detected. Technically this probably wouldn't be a virus-like problem to try to produce. This could be an interesting student project. Should it be multi-platform? It would be a terrible effort to develop something like that. The unfortunate user takes all rights and is drawn. And the application will be able to copy your phone book, mail, photos to India.

Updating BIOS from BIOS

Some BIOS allow you to perform your own flashing through the built-in FlashRom menu. Having entered it, you only need to indicate the location of the firmware bin file (it must be on a floppy disk) and start the firmware update process.

autoexec keys

As you have probably already noticed, in source code"Batch file" contains strange symbols with slashes, for example, /py /sy /cc. These are the keys that determine the actions of autoexec.bat during flashing. Let me give a brief summary of the purposes of each key:

Stupid users, smartphones with huge computing power, closed source code and a huge user base. It's a shame no one has mentioned this yet. It has limited functions. It might be inappropriate to emphasize this point. For laymen, computer experts, there is nothing special about this virus. If the virus really exists, then its target is not really a threat ordinary users, since ordinary people use computers connected to the network, and in their case, using an obscure virus would be as effective as repairing the exhaust of their car's engine.

"/?" - Help. If you want to get creative with Award Flash Memory Writer, be sure to read the program's help file.

Using the "/Py" and "Pn" keys, you can enable/disable writing to the BIOS chip. The latter is useful if you do not want to reflash, but only make a backup of the existing version.

Specify “/Sy” to save previous version before flashing starts or “/Sn” to cancel saving. In the first case, you will need to give the go-ahead (if you are sure that changing the firmware is advisable) to the question “Do You Want To Save BIOS (Y/N)” of the program. The "/Sn" key is useful if circumstances force you to flash without a monitor.

This, of course, does not mean that regular user data is safe. This could be a hypothetical threat to strictly isolated network computers, which do not connect to the network in any way. Among readers-donors target group will consist of such a virus - say, five people? Four of them with a tinfoil hat on their head against eavesdropping on foreigners and the poor just knelt down on the fifth network card It simply cannot be any other way.

Because the snowy road in summer, tires are a much more serious problem than the treacherous triple banana sandwich. But this applies to all the risks that are encountered - if they are common, so that almost everyone is exposed day after day, so that the brain shifts, while the risk of a new one, if even much less, but with the right advertising and can cause panic.

"/CC" - Clear CMOS after programming. It is better to use this key, since sometimes a reset of the CMOS settings is necessary to successfully change the firmware. The “/CC” action is similar to removing the BIOS power battery or manipulating the CMOS reset jumper. Use this technique if physical access to the system motherboard is difficult.

ASUS old BIOS

Install an application that scans and sees noise. No super hacking tool is needed unless you want to harm it. There is so much that a traffic data adder does based on this principle. You just have a fairly sensitive receiver built on the road.

Tips for using the BIOS safely

Well, such people are shaking up the fear of “triple banana sandwiches with castor oil.” This is true, but off topic. It is still so difficult to imagine and that is why it is good to discuss and consolidate it. But this is already far behind the server. This is a very vague statement.

“/CP” - Reset the “PnP (ESCD) Data” table after programming. Specify this key in autoexec.bat if the old firmware version does not recognize any PnP devices connected to the motherboard. The same result can be achieved using the “Reset Configuration Data” parameter in the “PnP/PCI Configuration CMOS SetUp” menu.

“/CD” - Reset the “DMI Data” pool after programming. DMI is a database that contains all information about computer system generally. “/CD” will be useful both when PnP devices are not detected and when replacing any system component.

Video card BIOS update

What card, this special treatment and just for it is operating system. And there are a lot of operating systems. This will come to me as a fairly standard treatment. Frequency restrictions reduce transmission speeds, but do not eliminate the possibility.

Therefore, the traditional method is used. The programmer in the washing machine must be programmed correctly, otherwise it will wring out your fussack before it fires. You know, he, the programmer in a classic automatic washing machine, consisted of an electric motor, gearboxes and camshafts that switched or expanded electrical contacts, and they controlled the components washing machine. Well, it was very similar to classic rockets. The shooting elements were set based on the shooting conditions.

"/SB" - Do not program "BootBlock". The boot block, which is executed first when the system starts. However, it changes extremely rarely, so the need to rewrite it arises with the same frequency. Overwrite “BootBlock” only if you are asked to do so offline. motherboard manufacturer's website. Unless otherwise specified by the motherboard manufacturer, there is no need to reprogram the BootBlock. In addition, a failure to program it may make it impossible to restore the processor. software. Some motherboards have a “BootBlock Protection” jumper on board. If it is installed, without specifying the “/SB” switch in autoexec.bat, BIOS programming will be impossible or will lead to errors.

Typically cam positions that then turned individual missile subsystems on or off; These missiles used inertial navigation. Precise targeting came later. Their frequency characteristics are sufficient to hear at least slightly distorted sound in the audible frequency range.

Therefore, the term "camera tethering" is inaccurate and misleading. Be it financial or informational. Or will we carry everything on a piece of paper again? Nowadays the situation is changing a little where there is extra space there, but still not much. Communication through sound is possible, but extremely slow and therefore unsuitable for meaningful activity. With a little extrapolation, we can deduce what might happen without the owner's knowledge. And you don't need a virus.

“/SD” - Save DMI pool data to a file. The DMI area can be saved for later use by software. Although the key is mentioned in the "Award Flash Memory Writer" help file, using it does not give any result. Simply put, this option doesn't work.

“/R” - Perform a reboot at the end of the flashing process. Useful when changing firmware using a bat file.

But removing them is not difficult. Quick written information earned it. Perhaps some of you can come back to the problem. He can't reach the end. This is better for computer printers than Latin Americans. The one where you perform ballistics calculations to build a washing machine program.

It's still an old new, already sparkling show. This can be effective - great. You wouldn't have done it and experienced it as a longer treatise, it would probably be here as captured in the article. This is bogus and is probably allowed against these and other embarrassing programs.

"/Tiny" - Use less RAM.

Without specifying this key, the "AwardFlash" utility tries to load into RAM the entire BIOS file for subsequent programming. If during the recording process, despite all the measures taken in preparation for the update, the program displays the message “Insufficient Memory”, repeat the procedure, but with “/Tiny”. Now the binary file will be placed in RAM not entirely, but in blocks.

A complex operating system performs a series of actions that access the disk. But here's more for the aforementioned Quiet Man of interest in what dates and times of assignment are stored in your diary. This may only make sense to those paranoid when someone's computer is not connected to the network, and someone insists that they still want to mine the data.

They have an irreconcilable debate on this issue where the article appeared. Some that air can transmit infection and others that it cannot. Just fighting this virus. Also, I think your chat is about the need to rewrite entire video discs - so why should that be? Doesn't this file have any side effects?

“/E” - Return to DOS at the end of the flashing process.

“/F” - Program using system BIOS. Most modern BIOSes contain "FlashROM" writing routines. Using the "/F" key, the "AwardFlash" program programs the "FlashROM" with algorithms that are in current version BIOS. If the motherboard has such design features that the use of the “AwardFlash” Writer algorithms does not lead to a successful result, you should use the “/F” key.

“/LD” - Reset CMOS settings after programming and do not display the system message “Press F1 to continue or DEL to setup”.

“/CKS” - Displays the checksum of file XXXXh. The file checksum is displayed on the monitor screen in hexadecimal format. Useful to use with a verification key.

“/CKSxxxx” - Compare the file checksum with XXXXh. If the checksums do not match, the message “The program file"s part number does not match with your system!” is displayed. XXXXh value for each file BIOS updates, as a rule, is published by the motherboard manufacturer on its website.

If you still screw up the BIOS

If you managed to screw up this simple but important matter, we will try to restore the functionality of the basic input/output system of your motherboard. There are two methods: software and hardware-software. Let's look at the first one first, since it is relatively simpler. It consists of trying to re-flash it. If the computer boots up to at least POST, and the system is able to boot from a floppy drive, we shove our system floppy disk with the flasher and firmware into it and repeat the flashing process from the beginning. If you're lucky, soon the monitor, like before, will delight you with its native "windows". If you have brought the BIOS to such a state that the computer does not even boot up to POST, things are much worse. Either we will have to visit a service center, or, if the EEPROM chip is not soldered into the motherboard, but is simply inserted there and can be easily removed, we take it out and go to a place where they will entrust us with the same motherboard with the same dismountable BIOS.

Final word

In this article, I talked about ways to flash the system BIOS. As you can see, the procedure is, in principle, simple if you tackle the matter wisely and with straight hands. So I warned you about the consequences, and then decide for yourself.

on the mother's Asus board or Gigabyte (on a laptop, personal computer). Therefore, first of all, it’s worth discussing why, in general, flash the BIOS? Let's not be verbose and say that, like any update on absolutely any device, here the firmware also serves to make improvements in the operation of the product.

You might think that this is already clear, but, on the other hand, judge for yourself: have you ever flashed the BIOS on the motherboard? The answer will most likely be no. If it is positive, then we can congratulate you - it will be much easier for you to carry out the manipulations described below. However, it is not clear what you are doing on the Internet in search of your answers. So, if you have never flashed a BIOS, then it is better to think again before possibly making a fatal mistake. Why fatal? You just might accidentally disable software components. Then you cannot do without the help of specialists. That's why next we'll talk about points that are worth remembering before flashing the Gigabyte or Asus BIOS.

Flashing the motherboard BIOS is a very important process. Don't do it unless you're sure it's necessary.

What do you need to know before flashing the BIOS?

Preparing the necessary files

ASUS new BIOS

How to understand what you have new BIOS? This is very simple to do: go to the BIOS menu when you turn on the computer, then pay attention to front end programs. If in this window you can work with both a keyboard and a mouse, if the window does not look like a standard BIOS (gray or blue background with a scary menu), but like a modern application, then you definitely have a modern motherboard with the UEFI standard. This standard replaced the old BIOS system to make it easier for the user to navigate the program space. Therefore, special thanks to the programmers and developers for such care.

  1. In the BIOS window, select the “Advanced” option at the bottom of the page. The program will clarify your action - click OK;
  2. Now in the top menu, find the “Service” tab and click on it. In this window we will need just the one mentioned above ASUS utility EZ Flash;
  3. Next, we find the previously recorded firmware file for your motherboard (if you don’t understand what we’re talking about, run to read the paragraphs “What you need to know before flashing the BIOS” and “Preparation necessary files"! Don’t pretend to be a know-it-all, but rather read the information provided). Left-click on the file;
  4. In a new window, the utility will ask you if you need to read it. Click OK;
  5. Again a notification will pop up specifying the BIOS update itself - here we also agree with the OK button;
  6. We are waiting for the flashing to complete. This process may take some time, so be patient and do not touch anything. When everything is finished, you will see a notification that the update has completed successfully. Click OK again;
  7. The system will reboot with the reset BIOS settings and its new version. You can congratulate yourself, because you successfully completed the task!

ASUS old BIOS

If you're sitting disappointed that you have an old version without mouse support and a beautiful interface, don't be too upset. Yes, it will be a little more difficult for you. But this is only in terms of ease of use of the utility. By the way, the update will occur using the same ASUS programs EZ Flash 2! We repeat once again, the difference between the old and new versions of the module is only in the interface. What should you do?

  1. Naturally, first we go to the BIOS;
  2. Next, go through the tabs using the keyboard to the penultimate one, called Tools;
  3. Here we will need to launch our utility Asus EZ Flash 2;
  4. Now in the window we select our prepared flash drive with the firmware files. You will need to double-click on this file;
  5. A notification window will ask you if you really want to update the BIOS? It seems to us that if you have reached this point, then you can safely click Yes. However, if for some reason you change your mind, click No;
  6. We are waiting for the flashing to complete. This process may take some time, so be patient and do not touch anything. When everything is over, the computer or laptop will reboot, and you will have a new version of BIOS;
  7. You can congratulate yourself, because you successfully completed the task!

Gigabyte

The employees and specialists of this company, when creating software for the BIOS, did not reinvent anything new: that is, installing updates for their product will not differ much from previous instructions. However, it is worth remembering that the program interface may be slightly different, but the method remains the same. Therefore, for users this is more of a plus than a minus - you don’t need to learn anything new, and if you are already familiar with the BIOS firmware on an ASUS motherboard on a laptop or computer, you definitely won’t have any problems with how to reflash Gigabyte.

Finding the firmware is as easy as updating it: all information is freely available on the company’s official website on the Internet. You won’t have to search for long either, since the developers took care of the convenience of finding the necessary documents and did not hide them somewhere in the site menu. As mentioned above, the company strongly discourages carrying out such an operation (that is, flashing the BIOS) unless absolutely necessary. If all installed components are working correctly and stable, why touch anything? As you know, such actions do not lead to anything good. It's also worth remembering that if you don't get along particularly well with computer equipment, then it is better to leave this matter to specialists in different service centers or workshops.

The naming of the motherboard module remains important: Gigabyte can give the same designation for different models(for example, if the second is a re-release of the first). But for them it will be perfect different files firmware: if installed incorrectly, you can simply break the software and disable it. Therefore, let us repeat and remind you that you should not reflash the Gigabyte BIOS just on your whim.

Let's sum it up

Flashing or flashing the BIOS on an Asus (or Gigabyte) motherboard on a laptop or computer will allow you to make improvements and fix problems in the operation of the device at the software level. Before you begin these steps, you need to consider a number of factors that can protect you from unexpected problems and breakdowns. It is worth paying attention that the versions of the BIOS program interface on computers may differ, so we are not afraid, but are simply looking for a suitable option.

If you are not confident in your abilities, it is better to leave this matter to a specialist, especially if there are real problems with the motherboard: perhaps the failure does not lie in the hardware, but it is worth replacing the entire board. Do not forget also that if the board on your laptop breaks, you will not be able to replace it. Then you can say goodbye to your device. However, we hope that everything worked out for you and that nothing was broken. Don't forget to share your opinions and experiences in the comments!
