Sometimes users have to leave the computer for a while so that it completes a certain task on its own. After completing the task, the PC will continue to idle. In order to avoid this, a sleep timer should be set. Let's see how this can be done in the Windows 7 operating system in various ways.

There are a number of ways that allow you to set a sleep timer in Windows 7. All of them can be divided into two large groups: the operating system's own toolkit and third party programs.

Method 1: Third Party Utilities

There is a range third-party utilities who specialize in setting a timer to shut down a PC. One of these is SM Timer.

  1. After the downloaded from the Internet is launched setup file, the language selection window opens. Click the button on it OK without additional manipulations, since the default installation language will correspond to the language of the operating system.
  2. Next opens Installation Wizard. Click here button "Further".
  3. After that, a window opens license agreement. You need to move the switch to the position "I accept the terms of the agreement" and press the button "Further".
  4. window starts additional tasks. Here, if the user wants to install program shortcuts on desktop and on Panels quick start , then you must check the boxes next to the corresponding parameters.
  5. After that, a window will open where information about the installation settings that were made by the user earlier is indicated. Click on the button "Install".
  6. After the installation is completed, Installation Wizard will report it in a separate window. If you want SM Timer to open immediately, then you need to check the box next to the item "Start SM Timer". Then click "Complete".
  7. A small window of the SM Timer application is launched. First of all, in the upper field from the drop-down list, you need to select one of the two modes of operation of the utility: "Turn off the computer" or "End Session". Since we are faced with the task of turning off the PC, we choose the first option.
  8. Next, you should choose the time reference option: absolute or relative. With absolute, the exact switch-off time is specified. It will occur when the specified timer time matches the computer's system clock. In order to set this countdown option, the switch is moved to the position "IN". Further using two sliders or icons "Up" And "Down" located to the right of them, the shutdown time is set.

Relative time indicates how many hours and minutes after activating the timer the PC will be turned off. To set it, set the switch to the position "Through". After that, in the same way as in the previous case, we set the number of hours and minutes after which the shutdown procedure will occur.

  9. After the above settings are made, click on the button OK.

The computer will turn off after the set amount of time or when the specified time arrives, depending on which countdown option was selected.

Method 2: Using 3rd Party Application Peripheral Tools

In addition, in some programs, the main task of which is completely unrelated to the issue under consideration, there are secondary tools for shutting down the computer. Especially often this feature can be found in torrent clients and various file downloaders. Let's see how to schedule PC shutdowns using the example of a file download application.

Now, when the specified time is reached, the download in the Download Master program will be completed, immediately after which the PC will turn off.

Method 3: Run window

The most common option for starting the computer's auto-shutdown timer is built-in Windows tools is to apply the command expression in the window "Run".

If the user wants the computer to forcibly shut down the programs when it is turned off, even if the documents are not saved, then you should set in the window field "Run" after specifying the time after which the shutdown will occur, the parameter "-f". Thus, if you want the forced shutdown to occur after 3 minutes, then you should enter the following entry:

shutdown -s -t 180 -f

Click on the button OK. After that, even if programs with unsaved documents, they will be forcibly terminated and the computer turned off. When entering an expression without a parameter "-f" the computer, even with the timer set, will not turn off until documents are manually saved if programs with unsaved content are running.

But there are situations that the user's plans may change and he changes his mind about turning off the computer after the timer has already started. There is a way out of this situation.

Method 4: Create a Disable Button

But constantly resort to entering commands through the window "Run", introducing code there, is not very convenient. If you regularly resort to the shutdown timer, setting it to the same time, then in this case it is possible to create a special button to start the timer.

  1. Click on the desktop with the right mouse button. In the context menu that opens, hover over the position "Create". In the list that appears, select the option "Label".
  2. is running Create shortcut wizard. If we want to turn off the PC half an hour after the timer starts, that is, after 1800 seconds, then we enter into the area "Specify Location" the following expression:

    C:\Windows\System32\shutdown.exe -s -t 1800

Naturally, if you want to set the timer for a different time, then a different number should be indicated at the end of the expression. After that click on the button "Further".

  3. The next step is to give the label a name. By default it will shutdown.exe, but we can add a more descriptive name. Therefore, in the area "Enter label name" we enter the name, looking at which it will immediately be clear what will happen when it is pressed, for example: "Start off timer". Click on the inscription "Ready".
  4. After these actions, a shortcut to activate the timer appears on the desktop. So that it is not faceless, the standard shortcut icon can be replaced with a more informative icon. To do this, click on it with the right mouse button and in the list stop the selection on the item "Properties".
  5. The properties window launches. Moving to section "Label". Click on the inscription "Change Icon...".
  6. An informational alert will be displayed stating that the object shutdown has no icons. To close it, click on the inscription OK.
  7. The icon selection window opens. Here you can choose an icon for every taste. In the form of such an icon, for example, you can use the same icon as in shutdown Windows like the image below. Although the user can choose any other to his taste. So, select the icon and click on the button OK.
  8. After the icon is displayed in the properties window, there we also click on the inscription OK.
  9. After that, the visual display of the PC auto-off timer start icon on the desktop will be changed.
  10. If in the future it will be necessary to change the computer shutdown time from the moment the timer starts, for example, from half an hour to an hour, then in this case we again go to the properties of the shortcut through the context menu in the same way as discussed above. In the window that opens, in the field "An object" change the numbers at the end of the expression from "1800" on "3600". Click on the inscription OK.

Now after clicking on the shortcut, the computer will turn off after 1 hour. In the same way, you can change the shutdown period to any other time.

Now let's see how to create a computer shutdown cancel button. After all, the situation when it is necessary to cancel the actions performed is also not rare.

Method 5: Using Task Scheduler

You can also schedule a PC shutdown after a specified period of time using the built-in Windows Task Scheduler.

  1. To go to the task scheduler, click the button "Start" in the lower left corner of the screen. After that, select the position in the list "Control Panel".
  2. In the area that opens, go to the section "System and safety".
  3. Further, in the block "Administration" choose a position "Task Schedule".

There is also a faster option to switch to the task schedule. But it is suitable for those users who are used to remembering the syntax of commands. In this case, we will have to call the already familiar window "Run" by pressing combination Win+R. Then you need to enter a command expression in the field "taskschd.msc" without quotes and click on the inscription OK.

  4. The task scheduler starts. In its right area, select the position "Create a simple task» .
  5. opens Task Creation Wizard. At the first stage in the field "Name" the task should be given a name. It can be completely arbitrary. The main thing is that the user himself understands what it is about. Let's assign a name "Timer". Click on the button "Further".
  6. At the next stage, you will need to set the task trigger, that is, specify the frequency of its execution. Move the switch to position "Once". Clicking on the button "Further".
  7. After that, a window opens in which you need to set the date and time when the auto-shutdown will be activated. Thus, it is set in time in absolute terms, and not in relative terms, as it was before. In the relevant fields "Begin" set the date and exact time when the PC should be turned off. Click on the inscription "Further".
  8. In the next window, you need to select the action that will be performed when the time specified above arrives. We should turn on the program shutdown.exe, which we previously launched using the window "Run" and label. Therefore, we set the switch to the position "Run the program". Click on "Further".
  9. A window opens where you need to specify the name of the program that you want to activate. To area "Program or Script" enter the full path to the program:

    C:\Windows\System32\shutdown.exe

  10. A window opens in which general information about the task is presented based on the data entered earlier. If the user is not satisfied with something, then you should click on the inscription "Back" for editing. If everything is in order, check the box next to the parameter "Open Properties window after clicking Finish". And click on the inscription "Ready".
  11. The task properties window opens. About parameter "Run with highest privileges" set the checkbox. switch in the box "Customize for" put in position Windows 7, Windows Server 2008R2". Click OK.

After that, the task will be queued and the computer will turn off automatically at the time specified using the scheduler.

If the question arises, how to disable the computer shutdown timer in Windows 7, if the user changes his mind about turning off the computer, we do the following.

After the specified action, the task to automatically turn off the PC will be canceled.

As you can see, there are a number of ways to start the computer's auto-shutdown timer at a specified time in Windows 7. Moreover, the user can choose ways to solve this problem, both with the built-in tools of the operating system, and using third-party programs, but even within these two directions, between specific ways there are significant differences, so the appropriateness of the chosen option should be justified by the nuances of the application situation, as well as the personal convenience of the user.

Computer processing of large amounts of data requires time, which a busy person does not have in abundance. Some operations, such as: rendering video, checking the system with an antivirus, downloading files from the Internet, are performed without user intervention, but not all programs can offer the function of shutting down the system automatically.

Many ordinary users are wondering: how to automatically turn off the computer by analogy with the shutdown timer on household appliances ( washing machine, microwave, etc.)? In our article, we will consider the main options for enabling this mode with standard tools and using a third-party software in Windows 7 and 10.

The ability to automatically turn off the computer was provided in advance in the earliest Windows operating systems. This method involves working with the main interface of the system - command line. It is universal for any version of Windows and is the easiest to use.

To do this, perform the following steps:

  1. Go to the menu "Start/Programs/Accessories" and choose a program "Command line" or enter the name in the search bar.
  1. Enter the command in the console "shut down". Help will appear on the screen, indicating the options and their corresponding arguments.

For a normal shutdown of the computer, we will use two arguments:

  • "/s"- shutdown of the PC;
  • "/t"‒ countdown timer to complete the task (specified in seconds).
  1. For example, you need the computer to finish its work in half an hour. Without leaving the console, we write the command "shutdown -s -t 1800" and press "Enter".

Attention! The command must be without quotes.

Immediately after activating the computer's auto-shutdown on the panel Windows controls the remaining time appears.

  1. To cancel this action, enter through the command line « shutdown-a".

There is a more simplified way to activate this mode without resorting to entering characters in the console. To do this, in the search menu bar "Start" prescribe "shutdown -s -t (time in seconds)" and confirm the action with the key « Enter».

Disabling the computer's auto-shutdown on Windows is done in a similar way.

Using the Task Scheduler

The Task Scheduler is a standard Windows tool that can be useful if you have scheduled your computer to turn off at a specific time and date. It is also used for interval (regularly repeated) actions. For example, you want your computer to turn itself off every day at 5:00 pm or restart every 12 hours.

As an example, we will show how to set the computer to automatically turn off at 17:00 every day.

To use the scheduler, you need:

  1. Go to "Start/Control Panel/Administrative Tools or "Programs/Accessories/Utilities" and run "Task Scheduler". Even easier is to write this name in the search bar in Start.

In the window that opens, create a simple task by clicking on the button of the same name.

  1. The task creation wizard will open, which consists of several steps. First, you need to come up with a name. We will write "Auto Shutdown". After we press "Further".

  1. In the "Trigger" item, you must specify the interval for starting the task. We choose "Daily".

In the same place, you need to specify the time and date of the trigger.

  1. On the menu "Action" the user specifies the process to occur after the trigger is enabled. We need a parameter "Run the program".

  1. The name of the program - « shutdown". In the field for arguments we write «- s-f"(separated by a space without quotes).

In the last window, we can double-check the conditions and parameters we specified and click the button "Ready".

Automatic shutdown computer will occur at the specified time, regardless of the operation being performed, workload, or other conditions. This method is useful as a safety net (if a person forgot to turn off the PC at the workplace) or parental control (limit the time children spend in front of the monitor).

AnvideLabs shutdown timer

After standard Windows tools, we turn to an overview of the small and easiest to manage Shutdown Timer utility from the domestic developer AnvideLabs. It is characterized by its minimalism, practicality and unification with all Windows, including seven and ten. Software in free access and in Russian.

To start using the program:

  1. Enter the address of the developer's website http://anvidelabs.org/programms/toff in the browser line and download the program.

  1. In the window running program the user can choose an action ranging from simply shutting down the PC to disabling the mouse, keyboard, and even the internet connection. The condition for triggering the program is indicated below. At the bottom there is a timer for entering the exact time the action will start. Here you can activate the countdown.

  1. Like last time, we will set the computer to automatically turn off at 17:00. Enter the time and press the green button. The countdown has begun.

By clicking on the cross on the right upper corner the utility is minimized to tray and does not interfere with work.

Advantages

  • Russian-language interface and minimalist style.
  • Several available actions.
  • Completely free.
  • The timer is password-locked at the discretion of the administrator.
  • Suitable for Win 7 and 10.

Flaws

  • It is not possible to schedule auto-shutdown by date or set its interval.

TimePC alarm clock

The next program on the review is TimePC, developed by the administration of the site http://www.loadboard.ru. This solution compares favorably with the previous one due to the presence of a scheduler and the ability to not only turn off, but also turn on the PC at a given time. The program is extremely simple and functional at the same time. It can be called the "golden mean" between multifunctional harvesters and miniature "plugs".

In order to acquire the TimePC program, we do the following:

  1. We go to the site http://www.loadboard.ru and find an article with its description and a link to download. Download and install software on PC.

  1. TimePC signals the launch with a sound greeting and immediately takes us to the settings menu.

  1. We are primarily interested in the item "Off / On PC". Here you can choose between going into hibernation mode or exiting it. The trigger start is set by time and date.

  1. Of greatest interest is the built-in scheduler. In it, you can specify an action for each day of the week. It's disappointing that you can't set an interval here - it's either missing or infinite.

  1. In the window "Launching Programs" it is possible to bind a specific action to turning on the computer. For example, you can add autostart programs or ringtones as an alarm clock.

Advantages

  • Wide functionality.
  • There is an action planner.
  • You can hibernate the system and wake it up.
  • Binding a trigger for launching programs or files.
  • Russian-language interface.
  • Completely free software.

Flaws

  • IN system requirements Windows 10 is not listed (however works on it).
  • The structure of the utility is decentralized - there is no single main window.

switch off

Airytec's Switch Off is a multi-functional program with a large number of settings and provides a lot of options for managing your computer. This manager is a great alternative standard means Windows. The program is free, has convenient control and a clear description of the buttons.

To work with the program you need:

  • The possibility of a planned disconnection from the Internet.
  • Very simple program structure.
  • The interface is completely in Russian.
  • There is a command editor.
  • Free software.
  • Support for 32 and 64-bit systems.

Flaws

  • The interface is fully implemented in the form context menus taskbar, which is not very informative.
  • Doesn't officially support Windows 10 (but works).

What to use?

Today we told you about how to set up automatic shutdown of the computer. Windows tools and using utilities downloaded from the Internet. This function relevant for everyone, without exception, in the office and at home. The only question is how to do it.

In our article, we have given many ways to implement PC auto-shutdown. All of them are good, but some may be more or less suitable for a particular person.

If the user has experience with the Windows system and knows how to configure it, then it will be preferable for him to manage auto-shutdown through the standard CMD console and the task scheduler. The advantage of this solution is that there is no need to download and install third-party programs, as well as the wide functionality of the Windows scheduler.

For inexperienced and unpretentious people, we advise you to choose the "Shutdown Timer" and TimePC. Small functionality is compensated by the presence of a clear description and fairly convenient control.

For everyone else who doesn't want to dig into control panels but needs to fine-tune the system, we recommend using Switch Off. Large list of predefined tasks, constructor new task and the command editor make this nondescript utility a professional manager.

Perhaps many of the users of stationary personal computers wondered how to organize automatic switch on And shutting down the computer at a specified time or schedule. In this article, we will consider one of the more accessible methods.

To implement this function work personal computer we will use exclusively the built-in capabilities of the BIOS input-output system and the operating system Microsoft Windows 7. Use of third party software is expressly excluded.

Let us define a schedule that consists of necessary conditions, i.e. we need the personal computer to turn on every weekday at 07:00 am and turn off at 17:00 pm. Regarding weekends, due to a limitation in the BIOS input / output system, the computer will start at 07:00 in the morning and turn off after 10 minutes as unnecessary, because. no one is at work.

So, let's begin. When you turn on the computer, you need to enter the BIOS input / output system. To do this, press the key "DELETE", mainly this key is used in many motherboards, but there are still other uses of the keys, such as:

Esc F1 F2 F3 F10 F11 F12

After pressing the "DEL" key, the BIOS system menu will be displayed and will look something like the one shown in the figure below:

Set the value of the "Resume by Alarm" parameter to , activating the computer to turn on according to the schedule. In the “x Date (of Month) Alarm” parameter, you can select a daily execution or specify the desired day of the month, in our case we will use the first one - Everyday. Computer turn-on time "x Time (hh:mm:ss) Alarm" is defined as 07:00 am.

Thus, automatic switch on personal computer organized according to the schedule: daily inclusion at 07:00 in the morning, both on weekdays and weekends.

Computer shutdown settings

Now we need to create a schedule for automatic shutdown personal computer. The built-in console file will help us with this. taskschd.msc, the so-called "Task Scheduler", which will perfectly cope with the task. Task Scheduler can be launched using the "Search programs and files" line and "Explorer" Windows.

Method 1 - "Find programs and files"

2 way - "Explorer"

After the above commands, the "Task Scheduler" will open, in which you need to go to the "Task Scheduler Library" item and take the action to create a task - "Create a task" or "Create a simple task", as you like. Detailed description We will not describe how to create a task, everything is available and written in Russian.

As you can see, in the figure below, two tasks are created that produce automatic shutdown personal computer. The first task called “OFF PC” organizes PC shutdown on weekdays at 17:00, and the second task named as “OFF PC Weekend” performs PC shutdown on weekends 10 minutes after turning on the PC.

The detailed description of creating a task is missing, but you need to know the following, which for automatic computer shutdown you need to enable the launch of the program shutdown.exe -s in every task.

And also in the "General" tab for both tasks there are rules for completing the task only for a registered user, see below.

The created tasks will not function if you do not create an automatic user authorization in the system, i.e. when the computer starts up and boots up, the login will fail because a login password must be entered, and this is stipulated in our created tasks.

Therefore, in order to enter Accounts users" and set a password to automatically log in without a visible password prompt, you must open the explorer and specify "control userpasswords2" or netplwiz, for an amateur.

Here we are done with the setup. automatic start And blackouts personal computer, while using the built-in BIOS and Windows 7 functions. Try it YOURSELF!

It happens that you watch a movie before going to bed, and get up to turn off the computer, after its completion - there is no desire ... Today we will look at how set up automatic shutdown of the computer at the given time. Moreover, you can make it so that if you continue to use the computer, it will not turn off, but will postpone the shutdown for a certain time. There are a bunch free programs to automatically turn off the computer: shutdown timer, Brutus 2006, Switch off, Sleep moon xpress, switch, etc. But in this article we will look at how to set up automatic shutdown without additional software:

1. First we need to find the job scheduling snap-in:

Windows XP: Go to "Start" => "All Programs" => "Accessories" => "System Tools" => "Assign Tasks"

Windows 7 and up: Go to "Start" => in the search box, enter "Task Scheduler", or go to the start in "All Programs" => "Accessories" => "System Tools" => "Task Scheduler"

2. Click "Create Task"

3. We come up with a name for the task (for example, "Automatically turn off the computer"), check if the checkbox is checked for "Run with the highest rights"

4. Open the "Triggers" tab => click "Create"

5. We set the right time for the task to work and the date from which to start the shutdown, there are also four options for the frequency of execution:

  • once;
  • daily;
  • weekly;
  • monthly

6. Go to the tab "Actions" => "Create" => in the field "Program" enter C:\Windows\System32\shutdown.exe => add in the field "Add arguments" -s so that when the shutdown task is completed, the entire application is automatically closed

7. This item can be skipped by those who want to turn off the computer in any case at a given time, even if someone is sitting at it. Go to the "Condition" tab => check the box next to "Run the task when the computer is idle", set the desired time => also enable "restart when the idle resumes". If you follow the steps of the 7th paragraph, then it is possible that when the specified time comes, the computer will not turn off, because some program may perform some action.

8. Go to the "Parameters" tab => check the box "If the execution fails, restart after", set here the time after which it is better to restart the task: 10 minutes or half an hour.

After clicking OK, the task will run at the specified time. Therefore, we watch movies, play, and do not forget that the computer will automatically turn off at the time you have appointed :). Good luck to you!

When working with a computer, it may always be necessary to turn it off after a certain period of time. This task can be solved in two ways - create a task for the operating system or use one of the many programs that have the appropriate functionality. Because The last method is simpler, and we'll start with it.

Programs to turn off the computer

Consider working with several popular applications created specifically for computer power management. All of them are free and translated into Russian.

Wise Auto Shutdown

Fully free app, which can be downloaded from the developers' website at wisecleaner.com. The program is extremely easy to manage:

  • Launch the application.
  • In the left part of the window, select the desired task (for example, "Shutdown").
  • Next, it remains to configure the command execution parameters in the "Time" section.
  • The program can turn off the computer at exactly the specified time or after a certain time, and other settings are available.
  • Select desired parameters task, then click the Run button.
  • The program will be minimized to tray (area near the clock).
  • Do not exit the application, otherwise the command will not be executed.

This program is even simpler than the previous one. To set up a task to turn off the computer, follow the instructions:

  • Select the desired task from the top drop-down menu.
  • In the next menu, select the condition for triggering the job.
  • Enter the time in the corresponding field, then click on the button with the image of the green "Play" button. The upper part of the window will display a countdown until the specified command is executed.

Download managers

The need to automatically turn off the computer most often occurs when downloading large amounts of data. For example, a game or movie is being downloaded, which requires about 10 hours of continuous PC operation. It is unreasonable to set the time to turn off the computer using a timer. download speed may decrease, which will increase its total duration. It is for such cases that download programs (download managers, torrent / hub / FTP clients, etc.) provide a special function that allows you to turn off the computer when the download is actually completed.

For example, in a popular torrent client, this is done as follows:

  • Select "Settings" in the main menu.
  • In the drop-down menu, hover over the "Shut down Windows" item.
  • Select the desired task, for example - "Shut down when downloads complete".

Some of the download managers (for example, Download Master) have wider functionality for creating conditions for shutting down the computer, including the ability to shut down the PC on an independent timer or at a specified time.

Turning off the computer using Windows

All versions of operating Windows systems There are at least two ways to turn off the computer after a certain time:

  1. Run the command to shut down the computer from the command line (console) of Windows.
  2. Creating a task through the system utility "Task Scheduler".

Let's consider both methods.

Command line

Running the shutdown computer function using the command line is the easiest. All you need to do is:

  • Press "Win + R" on the keyboard, enter the command "cmd" (without quotes) in the window that opens, then click the "OK" button. The Windows console will launch.
  • Use to turn off the computer system utility shutdown.exe. It can be run in such a way that the PC shuts down after a certain time. To do this, enter the following command in the console:

  • The "-s" parameter instructs the program to shut down the computer, and the "-t" parameter specifies the shutdown time in seconds (in this case, 7200 seconds, i.e. 2 hours).
  • Copy the command to the console, setting the desired amount of time by replacing "7200" with your own value.
  • The console can be closed.
  • 5 minutes, and then one minute before shutdown, a corresponding message will be displayed on the computer screen:

The task to turn off the computer can be canceled. To do this, simply reopen the command prompt, then run the "shutdown /a" command. The procedure for turning off the PC can be interrupted at any time.

  • If the need to shut down the computer occurs frequently, running the "shutdown" command can be made more convenient and simple:
  • Create a shortcut on your desktop or elsewhere.
  • The shortcut settings window will open.
  • In the "Specify the location of the object" field, enter the following:

  • Instead of 7200, enter your value.
  • Click "Next", then provide a name for the shortcut (for example, "Turn Off PC") and click "Finish".
  • Now, to start the computer shutdown timer, it will be enough to double-click on the shortcut on the desktop.

If you need to change the time to turn off the PC, right-click on the created shortcut, then select "Properties".

In the same way, you can create a shortcut to cancel turning off the computer. To do this, in the "Specify the location of the object" field when creating a shortcut, enter:

Task Scheduler

System utility "Task Scheduler" allows you to automate the execution of a large number of tasks operating system according to a given schedule, including turning off the computer:

  • To launch the "Task Scheduler", press "Win + R", then run the "taskschd.msc" command.
  • On the left side of the window, find and go to the "Task Scheduler Library" section.
  • The center of the window displays a list of active or completed Windows tasks. Our task is to create a new task to turn off the computer.
  • Select the "Action" section in the main menu of the program, then click the "Create a simple task" item:

  • In the new window, enter a name for the task, for example "Turn off the PC", then click "Next".

  • In the "Trigger" section, select when exactly to execute the task (for example, "Once"), click "Next" again.
  • In the next section, you need to set the task execution time, click "Next".
  • Select the "Start a program" action, then "Next".
  • In the "Program or script" field, enter the command "shutdown" without quotes, in the "Add arguments" field, enter "-s".

  • Click "Next" and in the next section, "Finish".
  • The computer will be turned off at the specified time.

In fact, with the help of the "Task Scheduler", the automatic launch of the "shutdown.exe" utility was configured, as in the case of the command line. Only here the utility works immediately, without keeping a record of the time until the computer is turned off.
