Prestigio smartphones: review, characteristics, reviews. Working with two SIM cards

We have all seen a huge number of different budget smartphones, distinguished by their affordability and fairly rich equipment. As a rule, in some ways they are very similar to each other - this low price, not particularly original design, low-quality assembly, high technical parameters. The work of such market representatives, indeed, sometimes leaves much to be desired.

In this article we are also talking about a device presented in the budget segment. The device has a 2-core processor, an 8-megapixel camera and, in addition, is made in a simple “brick-shaped” body. That is, in all respects it resembles a typical representative of a smartphone from the Middle Kingdom.

Meet: we are talking about Prestigio Multiphone 4055 Duo.

Read about what this model is and what to expect from the device in our review.

Positioning

Let's start with the concept of the device, as well as with the manufacturer. So, the Prestigio company is quite famous (in Lately) developer of low-cost electronic devices. A wide range of smartphones and tablets from this company are supplied to the target market of the CIS countries. In terms of functionality and reliability, of course, it’s quite difficult to call these models good, but the characteristics of these products are quite tempting. Combined with an affordable price, they apparently do their job and force the buyer to make the right choice.

It’s not so easy to say anything definitely about the Prestigio Multiphone 4055 Duo. The model is far from being the flagship of its line, which is why it should not be treated strictly. Instead, the phone can be classified as one of those workhorses that function without glitches or freezes and are a daily assistant to its buyer. Read on for details on how the smartphone does its job.

Design

So, since we mentioned appearance device as a criterion by which to evaluate the model, then we will start with it. However, as already mentioned, you shouldn’t expect anything original in this matter from the Prestigio Multiphone 4055 Duo. The phone was made as simple as possible, limiting itself to decorative carvings on the back cover as decoration. From the front, the smartphone is no different from hundreds of similar noname devices.

So, firstly, the display diagonal of the Prestigio Multiphone 4055 Duo is 4 inches, which is why the smartphone is compact, easily fitting into the palm of your hand. Secondly, despite this, the model was made in a slightly convex case, which reaches a thickness of 10.3 mm. This gives some, somewhat unnecessary, massiveness to the device. Thirdly, the design of the smartphone should be said to be typical for the reason that it is not much different from the mass of other devices. Prestigio Multiphone 4055 Duo has the same set of three system buttons under the display, a classically placed speaker (above the screen), as well as keys for unlocking the screen and adjusting the volume on the side panels. Even the camera eye on the back cover is located in a typical way - in the center. To summarize, we will say that the appearance of the device is too typical to pay attention to it.

As for the assembly, it is, surprisingly, performed at a high level. As noted by reviews describing the Prestigio Multiphone 4055 Duo, the model does not give rise to talk about backlashes and creaks when the panels are squeezed. This means that all components of the case fit quite tightly and reliably. There is nothing to highlight regarding materials - the only highlight is the effect of the “rubber” coating on the back cover.

Screen

The phone presented in our review operates on a TFT display. This means that it can hardly be called colorful and clear, which is a screen based on IPS technology. The picture produced by the Multiphone 4055 Duo is somewhat grainy and blurry, especially if you look closely at it. The reason for this, in addition to TFT technology, is the low resolution - 800 by 480 pixels. Due to this, the pixel density is set at 220 pixels per inch.

The screen brightness can be called satisfactory - at its minimum level, the user is comfortable working with the phone in pitch darkness; while the maximum brightness allows you to see the image even in sunlight.

But with the Multiphone 4055’s color reproduction, everything is not so smooth. When the device is tilted, the gamma of the display changes significantly, transforming the picture.

CPU

We have already mentioned that the mobile Multiphone 4055 Duo has two cores, which ensure its very fast operation during everyday use. We are talking about MediaTek MTK6577 - a processor that is used on budget models from many manufacturers. Each of the nuclei presented in it is capable of demonstrating clock frequency up to 1.2 GHz. 512 MB of RAM also ensures fast (if possible) work with applications. As reviews note, of the specified amount, only 120-150 MB remain free, which protects the device from further freezing. Therefore, the recommendations of many buyers note that it would be advisable for the developer to expand the memory capacity to 1 GB.

If you believe a number of performance tests conducted both in ours and in other reviews, the device behaves very well - provided that complex programs and games are not run on it. Another thing is that the one who takes this device must understand that this model is clearly not intended for such purposes.

operating system

The Prestigio Multiphone 4055 Duo smartphone, the characteristics of which we presented above, runs on the OS Android versions 4.1.1. Despite the developer’s tradition of installing its own interface on its Prestigio products, in the case of the smartphone we mentioned in the review, they installed “naked” Android, which cannot but please fans of the latter. As “outsiders” we can only mention programs from partners - like the eReader Prestigio reader and others. If desired, all these applications can be deleted.

Some buyers are looking for information on how to flash Prestigio Multiphone 4055 Duo to the next version of the operating system (more precisely, to Android 4.1.2). Let us immediately note that there are no difficulties in this - you just need to install a special software to your PC, which allows you to update the software platform, and, by connecting your phone to it, perform a number of actions. But we do not recommend doing this, since there are a lot of reviews noting that the device starts to work with braking on this firmware. Therefore, by taking such actions, you risk making things worse.

Camera

We found a lot of negative reviews about the pictures taken by the smartphone. Based on them, we can conclude that the manufacturer deliberately overestimated the technical characteristics of the camera module in order to promote growth in phone sales. In practice, most likely, the model has only 5 megapixels together.

The front camera is necessary for communication via Skype, and, of course, you should not expect quality shooting from it.

Battery

The battery pre-installed on the Prestigio Multiphone 4055 Duo (reviews confirm this) has a capacity of 1500 mAh. This is enough for a smartphone with such a display and set of functions to ensure its operation throughout the day (provided active use). If you take care of the safety of the charge, its service life will increase to 3-4 days.

Connection

The model is equipped with two SIM cards, as well as receiving modules Wi-Fi signal, Bluetooth, LTE. The device also has a GPS chip for terrain orientation. However, it is quite difficult to call his work high quality.

Prestigio is a large Chinese electronics manufacturer. Its products are widely represented in several categories of devices: tablets, players, devices for cars and, of course, phones are produced under this logo. We will talk about them in this article.

Prestigio smartphones are most often positioned as budget but functional devices. These are typical “Chinese” models with promising technical characteristics and a lot of additional options. At the same time, the cost of such devices is relatively low - it is precisely due to this, according to the official information on the website, that the company is conquering more and more new markets.

In fact, we can talk about serious successes that Prestigio has achieved. Multiphone is a popular line of smartphones in model range company, sold in almost 70 countries. As you can imagine, in the post-Soviet space, where this class of devices is in demand, as well as in the Eastern region (China, India) and some European countries, the described smartphones occupy high positions in sales rankings. And even though the brand’s popularity is significantly lower than that of “top” brands, Prestigio smartphones still continue to sell millions of copies, enriching the company’s shareholders.

To find out a little more about Prestigio, we will prepare a review of several models sold under this brand. They will be used to judge the quality of the product and what reviews people leave about it.

Prestigio Multiphone 5550 Duo

This model is the current representative of the line mobile devices brand that is described in the review. This can be evidenced by its presentation on the company’s website (where, among other things, it can be purchased) as “the world of mobile entertainment.” This indicates the multimedia orientation of the phone. What is a model? What technical parameters are typical for it?

Screen

The Prestigio Multiphone smartphone is equipped with a 5.5-inch display covered protective glass 3. Its resolution is 1280 by 720 pixels - with it the clarity of the picture and the density of pixels on the screen meet high criteria.

Also, thanks to the IPS display technology on which the display operates, viewing angles can be praised - they do not change as the smartphone is tilted.

CPU

The phone operates on a 4-core processor capable of providing good performance. The clock speed of the cores is up to 1.3 GHz, paired with 1 GB of RAM, these criteria allow us to say that this is not a flagship, of course, but rather an “average” device in its class.

At the same time, it is quite well optimized for interaction with a battery with a capacity of 3000 mAh. Of course, this combination allows us to talk about increased autonomy of the gadget.

Camera

Prestigio Multiphone smartphones are equipped with two cameras; the main one has a matrix resolution of 13 megapixels (interpolated from 8). The quality of the images, judging by customer reviews, is quite passable - but far from “excellent”. The quality of the images is saved by a special sensor from Sony and laser autofocus.

You also need to praise the software part of the camera, which performs computational activities and processes images to the desired quality.

Smartphone Prestigio Grace X7 (7505)

This is another interesting device presented in the developer’s assortment. It is, if you believe technical specifications, has more powerful equipment, which means it has somewhat expanded functionality.

Screen

However, this does not apply to the display - the phone has the same solution as in the case of Multiphone. Like the Prestigio Grace X5 smartphone, the developer installed a screen with a resolution of 720 by 1280 pixels on the “seventh” generation. Provided that the physical size of its diagonal is 5 inches, we can conclude that the image density here is quite high and is about 300 pixels.

CPU

The X5 version runs on a 4-core “heart” with a clock frequency of up to 1.3 GHz; while the Prestigio X7 smartphone operates on the basis of 8 cores with a frequency of up to 1.7. Accordingly, the performance between these lines differs. The amount of RAM used in the modification x 7 reaches 2 GB, while the X5 has only 1 GB. This characteristic significantly determines the performance and response speed of the smartphone.

Camera

Just as in the case of Multiphone, Grace has two cameras with a resolution of 13 and 5 megapixels. In this case, similarly, the manufacturer made sure that the described Prestigio smartphones had the same software platform that ensures high-quality images. In particular, this is focusing, a high-quality sensor, and flash.

Prestigio Wize

As part of this review, I would like to touch upon another group of models. We are talking about the Prestigio Wize smartphone, represented by modifications A3, D3, C3. If we talk briefly about this representative, then this is clearly a representative. At least, his characteristics can indicate this.

Screen

Take the display, for example. With a size of 5 (or 4.5) inches, it has a resolution of 480 by 854 pixels, which creates a low pixel density. Due to this, the image quality seriously suffers and a “grainy” effect appears. The picture displayed on the screen cannot compete with the way the image is presented on other devices (which we mentioned above).

CPU

The described Prestigio smartphones (reviews confirm this) are equipped with 4-core “hearts” with a clock frequency of up to 1.2 GHz. This is a relatively good indicator, unless you take into account the presence of 512 MB of RAM. This is really bad, since there is no way a modern smartphone can function normally with such a small operating resource. As a result, various performance problems may arise; when running a program that will completely occupy this volume, the device will simply freeze.

Camera

The fact that Wize smartphones are at a lower level of the hierarchy than its “competitors” - other devices of the company, is also evidenced by the characteristics of the camera. There is a 5-megapixel camera as the main one, and a 0.3-megapixel camera as the secondary one. The quality of shooting on them leaves much to be desired.

Prestigio Muze

The Muze line of devices, also included in reviews of Prestigio smartphones, is, to some extent, a device similar in its capabilities. It is also more budget-friendly than the same Multiphone, due to which its characteristics are not so bright and indicative.

Screen

With the display of the model, the situation is approximately the same as on Wize models - low pixel density, low resolution, although still brightness and color saturation provided by the use of the IPS function. When tilted, as reviews indicate, the brightness of the image does not change, the picture remains saturated and does not “fade,” which is already commendable.

CPU

As for the hardware platform, in this matter the phones repeat the characteristics of Wize - it is a quad-core, acceptable base, combined with 512 MB. It is not without reason that buyers who worked with this model criticized the developers for this kind of savings when developing the device. Everyone writes that the smartphone “freezes” when loading this or that program, which makes working with it not entirely comfortable.

Camera

The optics here are the same as the previous line of devices in our review. This is a 5-megapixel main matrix and a 0.3-megapixel secondary one. The pictures are of average quality, in some ways the stabilization system helps - but in general it is powerless against weak equipment. In this regard, the developers are also positioning the smartphone as budget solution, from which you shouldn’t expect anything revealing.

Lyrical introduction

I have never gotten my hands on Prestigio smartphones before. In terms of technical characteristics, nothing special, so I wasn’t particularly interested in them. But one model really stood out because of its very capacious battery. That’s why I asked her for the test.

Please note that this review falls into the "simple" category. Which means that I did not use this device as my combat handset; my main SIM card was not installed in it.

Brief conclusion

Alas, the first damn acquaintance with Prestigio turned out to be lumpy. I frankly didn't like the MultiPhone 4055 DUO. The nimbleness is expected. The assembly is good. The battery is significantly better than average. But that's where the advantages end. The screen is downright sad. No camera. Moreover, there is no normal accelerometer, so I won’t be able to really play with half of my favorite toys.

Unpacking, first use (video)

Demonstration of work (video)

Price

I see the device for sale only in DNS and Yulmart. Price - 6500 rubles.

Competitors

At least four inches of screen, at least two amp-hours of battery, reasonable money.

As it turned out, even on the same chipset on which our hero is built, there are plenty of competitors. Everything is “second echelon”, of course. But there is something to explore. I'll name just a few.

Operating system and other software

operating room Android system 4.1.1 Jelly Bean. There are no add-on shells, pure Android.

There is not too much pre-installed software, but, unfortunately, it cannot be removed.

There is proprietary software from Prestigio.

"Prestigio Installer", whose task is to persistently offer you to install a bunch of different software. Adobe type Flash Player or Angry Birds.

"eReader Prestigio". A soft reader plus a branded bookstore from Prestigio. Well, it works. It's quite readable. fb2 understands, shows footnotes.

Battery

The camera can record video in FullHD resolution (in the settings this is indicated as “Quality in... HD”). True, with a frequency of only 15 frames per second. And even before recording, no one will warn you that there is such an ambush with frequency.

Now, if you set the video quality to “Good”, then you can get reasonable 1280x720 with a frequency of 30 frames per second.

But in any case, the quality of the video recording did not inspire me at all.

Prestigio MultiPhone 4055 DUO as a GPS navigator

There is no GLONASS support. When using auxiliary positioning methods, satellites are found instantly. A cold start on satellites alone in a not-so-clean field took me 12 minutes.

Prestigio MultiPhone 4055 DUO as a video player

This is a traditional situation for devices based on this chipset from Mediatek. We use MX Player in program mode and watch videos in a resolution no higher than HD. It is better not to use a pre-installed player - sound problems often arise.

Prestigio MultiPhone 4055 DUO as an audio player

The original headphones look nice, but something really falls out of my ears. And the sound quality is not that great. But with good headphones I managed to find a decent (in my teapot understanding) sound.

Prestigio MultiPhone 4055 DUO and Internet

Everything is expected. For trivial reading of news/twitter and similar activities, both the power and the screen are quite enough.

Prestigio MultiPhone 4055 DUO as a toy

Sadness. No, you can pick up a decent set of toys. Although the device is not the most powerful by today's standards, it is enough for many games. But the lack of a normal accelerometer is very bad. Control by tilting the device has already become a tradition both in racing and in running games. If there is no accelerometer, the smartphone will not respond to tilts. More precisely, it will be, but not always and not always in the way you would like to see it.

Watch a video demonstrating how it works. First I talk about the fact that it is impossible to control the angles of inclination, then I launch Temple Run, tilt the device... The running guy normally deviates to the side. I tilt it again - the guy doesn’t deviate and falls into the abyss. After recording the video, I began to figure it out - it turned out that if the device lies strictly horizontal, then it usually sees a transition/inclination through this horizon. Although, as one could see, not always. If you hold the smartphone in your hands, vertically or at an angle, as is usually the case, then tilts are not caught at all.

A gameProblems?

Another budget “tablet phone”

Our test laboratory included another inexpensive mobile device, part of the now popular category of large-diagonal smartphones, from the conventional series “for those who dream of a big screen, but do not want to pay dearly.” Buyers themselves in the comments usually justify their choice in favor of this kind of purchase something like this: “large screen, 4 cores, 1 gig of RAM - not inferior to branded manufacturers who break the price.” Well, let's check whether it really is not inferior, and what an inexpensive tablet phone of a not the most popular brand can offer to its future owner today. Actually, we started checking this earlier - we have already been in our hands with several large-diagonal models based on the inexpensive quad-core MediaTek platform, which has recently become widespread. So we will have something to compare with, because the hero of today’s review, the Prestigio MultiPhone 5300 Duo tablet, runs on another budget quad-core platform with similar characteristics, manufactured by Qualcomm.

Contents of delivery

The smartphone goes on sale in a small, neat rectangular package made of thick varnished cardboard. The packaging is clumsy: as is usually customary for this level of goods, the box lists everything that can be told to the world about the product contained inside - there is no smell of stylish brevity here, but this is not what the marketers were aiming for.

In a box, in addition to traditional charger, a USB cable and a wired stereo headset with in-ear headphones, surprisingly, a more unusual item was discovered. An additional accessory, made in the form of a book cover, reminiscent in appearance of familiar covers from Samsung smartphones. There is no window for reading information - the cover is solid, and is intended only to protect the screen glass from possible damage. The smartphone itself is very large and thick; the lid, of course, makes it even larger, but in general, such care from the manufacturer leaves a positive impression. And the size of modern tablet phones, most likely, is not that much of a concern for those buyers who initially, of their own free will, make a choice in favor of “shovels”. Women will generally carry such a device in their purse, and there the lid protecting the glass will be even more useful. Yes, and “native” back cover, which will remain in reserve, may come in handy someday. In a word, after getting acquainted with the Prestigio MultiPhone 5300 Duo package, you are left with a pleasant aftertaste.

Appearance and ease of use

The appearance of the Prestigio MultiPhone 5300 Duo smartphone can be called attractive: Prestigio has always taken care of the neat appearance of its products, so here, too, someone clearly worked on the design. True, the abundance of “shiny” may seem to be in bad taste, but it is what it is: there are a lot of shiny elements on the body of the Prestigio MultiPhone 5300 Duo, as, indeed, on other similar products from the company. The company as a whole adheres to a single standard for its smartphones: rounded edges, fairly wide side edges with an indispensable metal (more precisely, “metal-like”) rim, a sparkling glossy slightly sloping back cover and, of course, the unchanged “family coat of arms” - a large silver logo , an emblem that adorns any Prestigio brand device.

This impressive-looking design, of course, also has its drawbacks: the glossy back cover here, as it should be, is extremely easily soiled, gives off bright reflections in the sun’s rays and collects on its surface the maximum amount of fingerprints and grease from the palms. The glass covering the front surface, by the way, is also very easily soiled (apparently, the oleophobic coating here is quite modest, if it exists at all), so in general the body of the Prestigio MultiPhone 5300 Duo can be described as extremely easily soiled and also slippery to hold in your fingers.

As for holding it in the palm of your hand, this smartphone, due to its huge dimensions, cannot be called comfortable for normal human hands. The Prestigio MultiPhone 5300 Duo is very large; you can operate its elements only by shifting the case in your hands. In addition, the device turned out to be quite heavy: nothing hides in this case its considerable mass of 140 grams, and even, on the contrary, the thickness of the massive case seems to enhance this feeling. In thinner and flatter cases, the heaviness is not so noticeable, but this is not our case.

The back cover is removable, held in place by several plastic latches and is extremely difficult to tear off from the body. The camera window on the back panel protrudes quite far from the body, so it will certainly act as a protective ledge to prevent the back of the smartphone from being scratched on the table surface. Whether the glass itself will be scratched is another matter, but even with this, everything seems to be in order - it is protected by the rim. Next to the speaker window you can see a dual LED flash, and below is an external speaker grille with a rod curved outward for unobstructed sound output.

Under the cover there are slots for SIM cards and memory cards, as well as a removable lithium-polymer accumulator battery. The location of the slots is very convenient: all connectors are open, they are all lined up on the same level, providing simultaneous unobstructed access, and you don’t even have to remove the battery in order to replace any of the cards. SIM cards here are used in the Mini-SIM (“normal”) format, so those who have managed to switch to the Micro-SIM format will have to worry about purchasing the appropriate adapters, since their use here will not encounter any technical difficulties.

The front panel is completely covered with protective glass without edges. There is a hole cut in it for the speaker grille, and all the eyes of the sensors, the front camera and the block of front buttons under the screen are hidden under it. The smartphone has a traditional set of hardware touch buttons, they are located in a row under the display, have fairly large drawn icons and bright backlighting. The backlight can be turned off, but the duration of its operation cannot be changed. The plastic of the front panel under the glass is the same color as the body itself; in our case, both the body and the front panel were white. Not much space was left underneath, and the “facade” of the smartphone looks neater than that of the previously reviewed Highscreen Alpha GTX. The smartphone turned out to be nice in appearance - it could have made a lot smaller and used richer materials.

The complaints about the materials are as follows: the plastic used here is very simple, no shades of ivory or coffee with milk, no textured surface or soft-touch coating, not to mention laser engraving under a layer of varnish, like the latest LG models. Absolutely simple, smooth, snow-white plastic gives off a cheap look and simplifies the appearance of the device as a whole.

As for the controls on the body, they are all traditionally distributed along the edges of the device: volume is on the left, power is on the right, at the top there is a Micro-USB connector and a 3.5 mm audio output for headphones. It’s a little strange to see these two connectors in such close proximity, but, unfortunately, this solution has now become a craze among budget models, and not only among budget ones. What the developers were thinking about is unclear, but the fact is that when simultaneous connection cables to both connectors, they may interfere with each other.

The buttons on the sides of the case are very large, their movement is soft and pliable, pressing is distinct, and it is quite convenient to operate them blindly by touch. This is one of the traditional advantages of large-sized cases - the main thing is that the power key is not thrown to the very top, but here everything is fine. All buttons are located so that they are comfortable to reach.

The last thing I would like to traditionally note in this section is the number of body colors. In the case of the Prestigio MultiPhone 5300 Duo, apparently, we can talk about only two color options with which this device is supplied to the market - white and black. Most of the official pictures and descriptions show a predominantly white color; we also tested a completely white smartphone, but here and there we see pictures of a black device, so, apparently, the Prestigio MultiPhone 5300 Duo also comes in black.

Screen

The Prestigio MultiPhone 5300 Duo smartphone is equipped with a rather modest quality, but bright TN-matrix measuring 66x117 mm, diagonal 135 mm (5.3 inches), resolution 854x480 pixels and pixel density 185 ppi - this is a very modest figure, especially when compared with top modern tablet phones.

The display brightness has both manual and automatic adjustment, the latter based on the operation of the light sensor. Multi-touch technology allows you to process up to five touches simultaneously - tested AnTuTu program Tester. The smartphone also has a proximity sensor that blocks the screen when you bring the smartphone to your ear.

A detailed examination using measuring instruments was carried out by the editor of the “Monitors” and “Projectors and TV” sections, Alexey Kudryavtsev. Here is his expert opinion on the screen of the sample under study.

The smartphone screen is covered with a glass plate with a mirror-smooth surface and, judging by the barely noticeable decrease in the brightness of reflected objects, has a weak anti-glare filter. The surface of the matrix itself under the glass is mirror-glossy, while the reflection in the screen is tripled, which suggests the presence of an air gap between the surface of the matrix and the outer glass. On the outer surface of the screen there is a special oleophobic (grease-repellent) coating (not very effective), so fingerprints do not appear as quickly as with regular glass, but are removed more easily.

When manually controlling the brightness, its maximum value was 500 cd/m², the minimum was 45 cd/m². As a result, at maximum brightness the screen will remain sufficiently readable even in bright daylight, and in complete darkness the brightness can be reduced to a comfortable level. There is automatic brightness adjustment based on the light sensor (it is located to the right of the front camera). IN automatic mode When external lighting conditions change, the screen brightness increases and decreases. In complete darkness, the auto-brightness function reduces the brightness to 45 cd/m² (acceptable), in an artificially lit office, the brightness is set to 210 cd/m² (comfortable), in a very bright environment it increases to a maximum of 500 cd/m² (which is to be expected) . However, the brightness may not increase, since with a sharp increase in illumination the sensor goes crazy and begins to produce negative values value of several tens of thousands, which the auto-brightness function considers as zero, correspondingly reducing the brightness of the backlight. At lower brightness, there is some backlight modulation, but its amplitude does not reach 100%, and the modulation frequency spectrum has a maximum around 47.5 kHz, so the flickering of the backlight cannot be visually seen and the presence of such modulation cannot in any way affect the comfort of working with this smartphone.

IN this smartphone a TN type matrix is installed. The micrograph shows a typical TN subpixel structure:

Or rather, the lack of structure. The screen has good viewing angles in the horizontal direction, but with the slightest upward deviation, dark shades are inverted, and with a downward deviation, light shades are inverted. When viewed perpendicularly, the uniformity of the black field is good. The contrast is low - about 540:1. The response time for the black-white-black transition is 10 ms (7.6 ms on + 2.4 ms off), the transition between halftones of gray 25% and 75% (according to the numerical value of the color) and back takes 26 in total. 5 ms. Relatively short response times are perhaps the only positive property of this matrix. The gamma curve constructed using 32 points did not reveal a blockage either in the highlights or in the shadows, and the approximating indicator power function the result was 2.15, which is close to the standard value of 2.2, while the real gamma curve coincides well with the power-law dependence:

Color gamut is slightly less than sRGB:

Apparently, the matrix’s light filters mix the components with each other, and the spectra confirm this. This technique allows you to increase the brightness of the screen with the same energy consumption for the backlight, but the colors lose saturation (in this case, slightly).

There is no shade balance on the gray scale at all: the color temperature is higher than the standard 6500 K and varies greatly from shade to shade:

The deviation from the blackbody spectrum (delta E) is relatively small, but this cannot correct the situation:

This screen has one undeniably positive property: high brightness.

Sound

In terms of sound, the smartphone is not bad. Both speakers sound loud enough, even low frequencies are making their way. Although, of course, this is not a musical decision. There is no additional software here, only the proprietary functions of the software itself are available. Google systems Android. Accordingly, the standard audio player is not particularly remarkable; among the sound settings there is only a standard equalizer with several preset values. There are no special distortions observed in the telephone dynamics, the intonation and timbre of a familiar interlocutor are well recognizable, the voice sounds clear and loud. The external speaker grille is located at the back, but the outwardly curved rod does not block the hole in the table surface, so the sound remains quite loud. However, this does not excuse developers at all: sound should go to the user, and not from him, and it’s time to start taking care of this, both top manufacturers and small developers.

Camera

Prestigio MultiPhone 5300 Duo is equipped like most modern smartphones, two digital camera modules. According to the official description, front-camera here it is equipped with a module with a resolution of 1.2 megapixels. However, the test images themselves come out with a resolution of 2048x1536, which is 3 megapixels in terms of conversion - obviously, here we are dealing with the subsequent interpolation of the resulting images. In any case, this camera gives only the most general idea of the subject, there is no need to talk about any details. The test shot is shown below.

The main rear camera is also equipped with a rather modest quality 8-megapixel module. By default, the camera shoots in the highest possible resolution of 8 megapixels, and the resulting images are 3200x2400 in size. Examples of photos taken with factory settings and our comments on their quality are presented below.

The sharpness in the middle plans is quite good, but the same cannot be said about the foregrounds.

In the foreground the sharpness is good, but gradually decreases towards the middle ones.

The foliage is done quite well.

The middle plans are well done, but for some reason the foregrounds are blurry.

Sharpness at the top of the frame is good. Noises in the shadows promise to become stronger in sunny weather.

Overall, the sharpness of the image is quite good. The foliage merges only at a sufficient distance.

The blur zone at the bottom of the frame is clearly visible.

The camera does macro photography well.

The text is underlined with a sharpie, but is not damaged.

For some reason, the pictures do not have EXIF, although it would seem that this camera has nothing to hide. The camera looks quite budget-friendly, and also has design flaws inherent in cameras of inexpensive smartphones. An area of blur in the lower and sometimes left part of the frame indicates a possible skew of the lens. The white outlines of the sharpening appear very noticeably in the photographs. The camera also has some successful shots: these include examples of macro and text. The camera selects the exposure well, but greatly increases the saturation.

Overall, the camera is suitable for macro photography and document photography. However, there is a good chance of getting a good general shot.

The camera can shoot video, but the owner of the smartphone will not be able to “try” himself in Full HD shooting: the maximum resolution here is 720p. By default, the camera shoots video at 480p resolution, but this does not change anything: the image ends up being of poor quality, artifacts are visible everywhere, and stabilization is also lame. We tried shooting in both modes; examples of videos are presented below. Videos are saved in a 3GP container (video - AVC ( [email protected]), sound - AAC LC, 96 Kbps, 48 kHz, 1 channel).

  • Video No. 1 (21.6 MB, 1280×720)
  • Video No. 2 (6.09 MB, 720×480)

Shooting in the Prestigio MultiPhone 5300 Duo can be done by pressing both the virtual icon on the display and the hardware volume key, which is a definite plus. But you can’t take photos while shooting a video here.

Telephone and communications

The smartphone works as standard in modern 2G GSM and 3G WCDMA networks; There is no support for fourth generation networks (LTE). At all, networking opportunities smartphones today are minimal: the 5 GHz Wi-Fi range is not supported, and there is no support for NFC technology either.

There were no freezes or spontaneous reboots/shutdowns observed during testing. When you bring it to your ear, the screen is blocked by the proximity sensor. The light sensor controls the screen brightness level automatically. The screen is huge, so drawing letters and numbers virtual keyboards quite comfortable to drive. I would especially like to note the additional top row with numbers, as happens on top Samsung smartphones - it’s very convenient, you don’t have to constantly switch layouts from letters to numbers and back.

The implementation of working with two SIM cards is standard: there can only be one active conversation, and only one of the cards can work in 3G mode (the second is limited to 2G), although you can change the modes of the cards in the system settings, without physically changing slots. In a separate settings section, you can assign default usage conditions to each SIM card: for example, voice communication is always carried out using the first, and data transmission is carried out through the second.

OS and software

There's not much to talk about in this section. The system is used software platform Google Android version 4.1.2 and its proprietary interface. The developer did not use any additional graphical user interfaces of his own production, he just recolored the theme and added several of his own programs, such as a proprietary service for installing specially selected third party applications Installer Prestigio and reading service integrated with the online book store, eReader Prestigio. But, of course, nothing prevents the user from downloading and installing any programs available in the Google Play online store.

Performance

The Prestigio MultiPhone 5300 Duo hardware platform is based on the Qualcomm MSM8225Q single-chip system (SoC). The central processor here has 4 Cortex-A5 cores operating at a frequency of 1.2 GHz. It is assisted in graphics processing by the GPU Adreno 203 video processor. Random access memory The device has 1 GB, which is still quite enough. But the smartphone’s built-in memory is sparse - 4 GB nominally and no more than 1 GB of free space in reality. Of course, you can’t do without a memory card here. Mode for connecting external devices to USB port(USB Host, USB OTG) is also not supported here. Naturally, there is no MHL either.

According to the results of the data obtained during testing, the Qualcomm SoC (4 ARM Cortex-A5 cores @ 1.2 GHz) did not show anything outstanding, and even lost in performance to the representatives of the MediaTek SoC (4 ARM Cortex-A7 cores @ 1.2 GHz).

*AnTuTu test results are for latest version 4.x

Test results in MobileXPRT and new versions of AnTuTu 4.x and GeekBench 3.

The results of testing the graphics subsystem in the Epic Citadel gaming test are very modest and do not reach any of the compared opponents.

The most common formats that make up the bulk of the content available on the Web. Note that for mobile devices it is important to have support for hardware video decoding at the chip level, since it is most often impossible to process modern options using processor cores alone. Also, you shouldn’t expect a mobile device to decode everything, since the leadership in flexibility belongs to the PC, and no one is going to challenge it.

¹ MX Video Player only played sound after switching to software decoding or Hardware+; The standard player does not have this setting

We, of course, did not find an MHL interface in this smartphone, so we had to limit ourselves to testing the output of video files on the screen of the device itself. For this we used the set test files with an arrow and a rectangle moving one division per frame (see Methodology for testing video playback and display devices. Version 1 (for mobile devices)). Screenshots with a shutter speed of 1 s helped determine the nature of the output of frames of video files with various parameters: the resolution varied (1280 by 720 (720p) and 1920 by 1080 (1080p) pixels) and frame rate (24, 25, 30, 50 and 60 frames/ With). In the tests, we used the MX Player video player in the “Hardware+” mode. The test results are summarized in the table:

Note: If both the Uniformity and Dropout columns are rated green, this means that when watching movies, there will most likely be no or no amount of artifacts caused by frame spacing or dropouts visible. will not affect viewing comfort. "Red" marks indicate possible problems related to the playback of the corresponding files.

Total failure. In principle, if you limit yourself to video files with a resolution of up to 720p and with a frame rate typical for movies and TV series (24-25 fps), then you can watch something somehow. However, on comfortable viewing files with 50 and 60 fps (and especially 1080p) cannot be counted. The brightness range displayed on the smartphone screen exactly corresponds to the standard one: all shades of the “video” range (that is, range 6-235) are displayed in shadows and highlights. As they say, thanks for that.

Battery life

The capacity of the lithium-ion battery installed in the Prestigio MultiPhone 5300 Duo is 2100 mAh. The battery here, as already mentioned, is removable, so it can be removed and replaced (battery marking - GB/T 18287-2000).

Continuous reading in the FBReader program (with a standard, light theme) at a minimum comfortable brightness level (brightness was set to 100 cd/m²) lasted 15 hours until the battery was completely discharged, and when continuously watching videos from YouTube in high quality(HQ) with the same brightness level via home Wi-Fi network The device lasted 9.5 hours - these are average figures. In 3D gaming mode, the smartphone lasted 3.5 hours - also not a very outstanding result, but not a failure either.

Bottom line

Let's be brief.

  • nice design
  • large screen diagonal
  • relatively low price
  • good battery life

Minuses:

  • low screen resolution
