Last week, Apple introduced a new generation of iPod Touch 6G players, as well as iPod nano and iPod shuffle. The main changes were made to the large iPod Touch player, while the smaller brothers received new colors.

The main change in iPod Touch 6G can be considered - new processor The A8, together with the M8 coprocessor, is the same as in the iPhone 6, as well as the appearance of a modification of the gadget with 128 GB.

The A8 chipset is complete analogue Thanks to the 64-bit processor from the iPhone 6, the performance of the iPod Touch 6G has increased six times compared to previous generation players, and the processing speed of graphic tasks has increased by 10 times. However, it is worth immediately noting the fact that the operating frequency of the A8 is “cut off” - 1.1 GHz, versus 1.4 GHz in the iPhone 6. This was done primarily in order to save the operating time of the device at the same level, without increasing the volume battery - 1043 mAh (13 mAh more compared to iPod Touch 5G). RAM capacity 1 GB. The device's battery life remains the same - up to 40 hours of music playback and up to 8 hours of video playback.

In Geekbench performance tests, the iPod Touch 6G scores 1383 in single-core mode and 2445 in multi-core mode. Compared to the iPod touch 5G, the increase is simply phenomenal; the fifth-generation players have the following results: 217 and 416 points.

In addition to the new processor, the iPod Touch 6G received a 4-inch Retina display, as well as the same iSight camera as the main Apple smartphone, with a resolution of 8 megapixels and various new shooting modes. The front-facing FaceTime camera for selfies has also been updated.

The iPod Touch 6G player now supports the new Bluetooth standard 4.1, by the way, for the first time in Apple products, this standard differs from Bluetooth 4.0 in that susceptibility to external interference is significantly reduced.

iPod Touch 6G will already have it installed a new version operating room iOS systems 8.4, with available streaming music Apple service Music. The lower iPod nano and iPod Shuffle models will not have this feature.

There will be 5 different body colors available: gold, silver and gray, as well as pink and blue. In Russia, the new iPod touch will be sold at a price of 14,990 rubles for a model with 16 GB memory, 18,490 rubles - with 32 GB memory and 21,990 rubles - with 64 GB memory; a player with 128 GB memory will cost 28,990 rubles, it can be will only be available for purchase at the Apple Store.

The younger models of the iPod nano and iPod shuffle do not have any updates in the hardware; Apple simply decided to add several new fashionable body colors: “space gray,” silver, pink, gold and blue. Prices for the devices will also remain unchanged. An iPod nano with 16 GB memory can be purchased for 10,990 rubles, a 2 GB iPod shuffle will cost 3,690 rubles.

The release of the new iPod Touch caused a lot of noise, and this is not surprising: almost no one believed in further development this line of products, and then the company from Cupertino, without any announcement, began selling the iPod Touch 6G. Of course, this is good news, but let's figure it out: what has changed in the new gadget compared to the previous generation? Let's go through all the main characteristics!

Below, the iPod Touch 6G and iPod Touch 5G will be compared based on the power of their hardware, storage capacity, software, and design.

Design

You meet people by their clothes, right? Externally, the iPod Touch has remained virtually unchanged from the fifth to the sixth generation: as they say, “don’t fix what isn’t broken.” The design of the device is absolutely relevant; it’s no wonder that some of its ideas were borrowed from the iPhone 6! The body is still metal. Let us only note the fresh color solutions of the sixth generation: blue, pink (fuchsia), gold, silver, as well as the signature “space gray”. iPod Touch 5G is offered in a slightly different range: white, black, blue, pink, yellow.

Both media players are also available, when ordered from the Apple online store, in a special red color associated with the (Product)RED line, part of the campaign against AIDS.

Software

Let’s start the “technical” part from this point for one simple reason: nothing has changed in this parameter. Both the fifth and sixth generations this moment work under the control of the current iOS versions 8, and will be supported by iOS 9, which will be released in the fall.

There is only one difference: due to the updated hardware, the iPod Touch 6G works, of course, much faster, which is clearly proven by both comparative tests and benchmarks. But this is the topic of the next paragraph.

Performance

The iPod Touch 5G appeared in 2012, and now it is, of course, technically quite an outdated device. On board is an Apple A5 processor (similar to that installed in the iPhone 4S), as well as only 512 megabytes of RAM. But the iPod Touch 6G is equipped like any modern smartphone premium! It uses Apple's A8 processor, the same one found in the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, and has twice the RAM of its predecessor.

True, the results of the “autopsy” carried out by iFixit specialists showed: this processor operates at a clock frequency slightly lower than that of the iPhone 6 (slightly more than one gigahertz, versus 1.4 GHz for a smartphone). This is probably due to the fact that the battery capacity has not changed, and Apple tried to keep the same time battery life. The company succeeded in this.

Various tests show a performance increase of 3.5 times or more! For example, in the Geekbench benchmark the sixth generation has an almost sixfold advantage! You can find out a little more details at the very end of the article...

Camera

The gadgets also differ in the main camera. The fifth generation has a resolution of 5 megapixels. The new iPod Touch 6G has the same iSight camera as the current generation iPhone! Its resolution is 8 megapixels, FullHD video recording is supported.

Display

The screen has not undergone any changes, as well as software. Both models have a four-inch display with a resolution of 1136x640 pixels, 326 ppi. A completely modern screen that meets any reasonable requirements.

Memory capacity

And here the iPod Touch 6G took a step forward. The fifth model is offered in versions with 16, 32 and 64 gigabytes of flash memory (it cannot be expanded, of course). Quite decent characteristics, however, the sixth generation iPod Touch went even further: it has a fourth configuration, which already has a 128 GB drive! Once upon a time, only the iPod Classic, equipped with a hard drive, offered something similar...

Communication Interfaces

An important advantage of the iPod Touch 6G over the fifth generation is its support for two new communication interfaces. Firstly, this is Wi-Fi IEEE 802.11ac, and secondly, Bluetooth 4.1 (and the iPod Touch 6G is the first Apple gadget to receive this opportunity). The previous model only supports Bluetooth 4 and Wi-Fi (a/b/g/n).

Thus, we can confidently say: the sixth generation, in almost all characteristics, has made a big step forward. Only the screen has not changed, and this can hardly be called a drawback. Finally, two videos in which the models are compared in detail by experts!

The new iPod touch, which Apple began releasing this week, has received a significant upgrade over its predecessor, released back in 2012. Let's compare the 6th generation with the 5th iPod to understand what innovative things can be added to the device in three years?

1 – size

Let's start with size. And here potential buyers are overtaken by the first disappointment. The iPod has not gained (or lost) a millimeter in size. This is still the same rectangle with dimensions 123; 59; 6.1 mm.

2 – weight

The second disappointment is that the weight remained the same. No extra gram, no weight loss. Still the same strict 88 grams (or 3.1 ounces).

3 – building

The third disappointment is that Apple didn’t even think about replacing its usual aluminum with something else. The body, as before, is made of it.

4 – Loop

The first “innovation” is that the company has removed the small Loop notch on the new model at the bottom of the case, and now you can’t attach a cord to the new iPod. For what? People needed it to carry the player on their arm or neck.

5 – colors

As you can see from the color scheme, Apple didn't even think to update the color options. These are the same blue, dark gray, silver, gold, pink and red colors. Design innovations? No, we haven't heard.

7 – display

Has the display size on the device changed in any way? No. The same size means the same screen diagonal. The usual 4 inches. Has the screen resolution and pixel density changed in any way? Not at all. Standard 1136 by 660 pixels at 326 ppi. Has the display contrast changed? The same 800:1 remained. Maybe the display type has changed? No again - the same IPS.

8 – fingerprint sensor

Maybe Apple has introduced some new technologies like a fingerprint sensor? No.

9 – processor

Only at point nine do we see the first innovative update. Apple replaced the old one dual core processor A5 with 32-bit architecture and clock frequency at 800 MHz on a dual-core A8 processor with 64-bit architecture and a clock frequency of 1.1 GHz. That is, the processor manufactured in 2011 was replaced with a processor manufactured in 2014.

10 – RAM

The second innovation is the addition of RAM. The same amount was added to 512 megabytes, and the new iPod touch received 1 GB of RAM.

11 – battery

The new processor and RAM consume more power. Has the battery changed? No. The same 1042 mAh battery.

12 – cameras

The innovation also affected the main camera. From 5 megapixels its capacity has increased to 8 megapixels. Front-camera remained the same – 1.2 megapixels. The focal lenses remained the same - 2.4.

13 – Apple pay

Has mobile been added? payment system from company? No.

14 – internal memory

The device is still offered for sale in 16, 32 and 64 GB variants. Plus, an option with 128 GB of internal space has been added.

15 – software

Both iPods periodically receive updates, so both run on the latest available version of Apple's operating system - iOS 8.

16 – release, starting price and withdrawal

Apple released the 5th generation iPod touch in September 2012. The 6th generation iPod touch came out the other day (July 2015). Both devices retail for an average price of $200. What has changed in the new generation? Processor, RAM and main camera. This is where Apple's creativity has dried up. Perhaps the developers from Cupertino did not want to raise the price of the device. Although there was an opinion that the time of iPods had passed and they were no longer worth producing. So, most likely, the device was launched on the market at the very last moment. And why change something that is already “branded”?

The parade of iPhone 6 leaks continues. We barely had time to look at the gadget in three current colors when new photos of the device appeared on the Internet, but now next to the iPod touch 5, from which the smartphone adopted many design features. These are rounded, streamlined shapes, the location of buttons (except for the power button), connectors and speaker grilles. At the same time, the iPhone 6 has more impressive dimensions, including thickness - 7 mm versus 6.1 mm. Let us remind you that most existing examples of the iPhone 6 are made independently based on drawings leaked from the Foxconn factory and have a 4.7” display. According to rumors, the company plans to have another version with a 5.5” screen, made in the same style as its younger brother.

And here is a “live” comparison of Apple gadgets from all sides in a short video:

The iPhone 6 is expected to be unveiled in August or September. Information about its technical specifications is kept firmly under wraps. Only the new A8 processor, an improved camera with optical image stabilization and iOS 8, tailored for various sensors and user monitoring systems.

The iPod Touch is a multimedia player that has virtually no competitors on the market. This is according to essence of iPhone, but without a GPS module and without the ability to make calls. Everything else is here. Moreover, the iPod is even thinner in size than the iPhone. This is an ideal option for those who really feel sorry for throwing out 50 thousand rubles for a phone, but still want to have a powerful electronic assistant at hand in everyday affairs.

I first bought an iPod Touch 4 back in 2011. At that time it was just a monster! In all its characteristics, it was superior to any smartphone, and at the same time it cost very little money. The player served faithfully for more than a year. He even fell onto the asphalt at full speed and remained intact after that. Trouble happened one time - I simply lost it when I left the house sleepy. Then I bought a second iPod Touch 4. And until I got a full-fledged smartphone, I practically never parted with the player. Photos, voice recorder, The address book, notes, synchronization with iCloud, video camera, All this is here and works more or less tolerably. Not without glitches, of course, but much better than mine Samsung Galaxy Ace 2.

WHAT IS BAD ABOUT A REGULAR SMARTTONE?

Mine mobile phone I took it a year and a half ago for a considerable 8 or 9 thousand rubles (this was when the dollar exchange rate was 30 rubles). And in principle, functionally, it has all these capabilities as in the iPod Touch 4. Therefore, since that time, I began to take the player with me much less often. But Android's Lately began to freeze terribly. Sometimes even to open a banal calculator you have to wait for 5 seconds. Well fucked up - there are no words. It slows down worse than old ancient phones. In short, a normal smartphone has all the same functions as the iPod Touch 4, but everything is done in one place. That is why the most optimal combination for work is simple dialer and iPod Touch. So how does the iPod Touch 5 differ from its predecessor, the iPod Touch 4?

THERE WILL BE NO REVELATIONS

In fact, the new device does not have many innovations compared to the iPod Touch 4. Therefore, if you have an old iPod Touch 4 player, then it may not make sense to take the iPod Touch 5 yet, since in essence they are the same devices with some what reservations?

. Camera in iPod Touch 5 better than the iPod Touch 4. It has a flash, and the lens itself is larger and clearly takes sharper photos. As for the camera, please note that it is not available on some modifications of the iPod Touch 5. As far as the sellers explained to me, the cameras are only available in versions with 32 gigs of memory and with 64 gigs. By the way, the camera protrudes above the surface of the back wall, which is not very convenient or aesthetically pleasing.

. In terms of thickness, the iPod Touch 5 is only slightly thinner than the iPod Touch 4. The difference is invisible to the eye.

. Old model iPod Touch fits better in the hand than new. The new iPod Touch has a longer body and less pleasant-to-touch material. But the back wall is not scratched, because... There is no chrome coating, which used to become unusable immediately after unpacking the device.

. iOS - operating systems naturally different versions. I like the design of the old iOS better. But there are no fundamental differences.

. On the back of the iPod Touch 5 In addition to the flash, there is now also a special metal loop through which you can hook a cord.

. The iPod Touch 5 screen has become even better. Although the old iPod's screen was not bad. In my opinion, the glass and sensor of the old iPod are nicer than the new one. Although this may be some kind of subjective bird - who knows?

Why did I buy the new iPod Touch 5? Generally speaking, this is a very stylish thing and very functional. It’s not for nothing that I’m already buying a third player after four years of acquaintance with this device. I would like to have on hand the best electronic organizer with a lot of memory and a full load of multimedia capabilities. And the iPod Touch 5 gives you all this. The old iPod already has age-related defects inside the screen, the glass has already begun to peel off and is very glitchy Safari browser. Not to mention the fact that 8 gigs of memory is only enough for several dozen songs. Don't forget that it takes up several gigabytes. operating system. In the new player I have 32 gigs of RAM, a more or less main camera, high performance and modern headphones.

And of course, excellent design. Other manufacturers do not provide anything like this. By the way, about the design. I chose the gray model. Looks better in real life than in photos. There are several more color options. White, black, gray and a few girly (or gay) colors like red, blue, etc. For my taste, the most correct color is just gray. Although I will make a reservation that it was not possible to see and compare them all live.

IS IT WORTH BUYING AN IPOD TOUCH 5?

Let me tell you this: after the currency crisis, the iPod Touch 5 became a very expensive toy. I bought the version with 32 gigabytes for 16 thousand rubles in Svyaznoy - this includes the discount. I saw places where they offer the same thing for 20 thousand rubles. And before the crisis they cost about 10-12 thousand rubles. Is it worth it? Who knows. Very expensive. But I have long wanted to please myself with something from electronics. Moreover, I plan to spend the whole summer mountain biking. And a compact player with a good camera and a large amount of memory is perfect for spontaneous photo and video shooting and for listening to cool music in nature.

I personally have already bought a cool sports uniform and am planning to simply burn off the fat folds that have accumulated over the past few years with napalm. And since I often ride alone, I can’t go anywhere without a player. And again, there will be more juicy photos for the site. An assistant in work that is necessary and much more interesting features and design than those of the most expensive Android smartphones.

CONS OF IPOD TOUCH 5?

I'll tell you what, apart from the high price, there is still something negative about the iPod Touch 5. It's not a very good architecture. You can only download songs and videos through iTunes. Today I spent a long time fiddling around - trying to figure out how to upload banal video clips and banal music to the player. It's not that it's very complicated, but sometimes Mac products lack the simplicity that any similar device from competitors has. For example, when I connect my smartphone, I can easily transfer files both to the phone and back. The iPod doesn't have this by default, but it does have dances with a tambourine. You can get used to this, but if you consider that after each iTunes updates The banal uploading of photos, music and videos back and forth is becoming more and more difficult, and it is becoming unclear why this is done this way. I don't quite understand this. Although perhaps there is some meaning to this.
