The back of the phone has a rubberized soft-touch coating with a large inscription in italics “PIXI” - many may like this, but most likely it will wear out in a month or two.

Although Alcatel PIXI 3 (4.5) is made of budget plastic, the body is not so poorly assembled. It crackles slightly, and the lid can be removed with a little difficulty, but nothing extraordinary. All slots for SIM and MicroSD cards are hidden under a removable battery.

The screen resolution is low - only 854x480 pixels. The estimated pixel density is 218 per inch. The image is blurry, and if you don't have vision problems, it won't be difficult to notice individual pixels. The type of display is not specified, it is only written that it is TFT (thin film transistor). But this is the same as saying nothing - this can be written about most modern displays. Judging by the fading of the picture with deviations, it is more likely to be TN than IPS. The display senses no more than two clicks at a time and is not equipped with a light sensor (accordingly, there is no automatic brightness adjustment). The screen is not particularly protected by anything; you can only stick a film on it separately. The range of brightness changes is not the widest - from 36 to 316 cd/m2. For darkness, 36 cd/m2 is too much. At first we weren’t even able to measure the color gamut normally - each time the colorimeter gave an error, but on the fourth attempt it still took measurements and showed something like half of the standard gamut.

Cameras - 2.5

Alcatel PIXI 3 (4.5) received two low-quality cameras of 5 and 2 MP.

The resolution is standard for a very low price, but their main problem is the lack of autofocus. Getting clear photos is problematic - the result is poor even by the standards of 5 MP cameras (for comparison, the Lenovo A2010 with 5 MP took noticeably better photos). However, the camera still has its own features, for example, a flash and an HDR mode. It's funny, but in the settings it says that the video is recorded at a maximum resolution of 840x480 pixels, but when checked from a PC it turns out to be as much as an HD resolution of 1280x720 pixels (that is, even more than what was written).

The 2 MP front camera can only take budget selfies with sepia and retro filters, as well as video with a low resolution of 640x480 pixels.

In addition to the standard Google keyboard, the Alcatel PIXI 3 (4.5) has Swift Key installed. It offers continuous input, marking of additional characters, and trained predictive word input. It's just that switching between languages ​​is not as convenient as with a standard keyboard - you have to hold down the space bar and pull it to the side.

Alcatel PIXI 3 (4.5) comes pre-installed with “Browser” and Google Chrome. The first has functions such as search, adjusting the page to fit the screen width, selecting a search engine, and more. It's a pity, but adjusting to the screen width didn't work for us. Chrome, on the other hand, only boasts the ability to synchronize tabs and history with the desktop version of the program. When working with browsers, we noticed periodic sticking on pages and a lack of random access memory devices.

In this regard, Alcatel PIXI 3 (4.5) is a typical budget phone. It’s good that at least there is 3G support (for example, last year’s Explay Rio didn’t even have that). The phone received the following set of communications:

The smartphone works with two SIM cards, but only 2G Internet is available from the second one. During test calls, we heard the interlocutor quite well, as well as he heard us. The cold start of the GPS module took about three minutes - the result is so-so, but it is considered acceptable for the first launch.

Multimedia - 3.0

Alcatel does not boast support for a large number of audio and video files out of the box. In tests, the smartphone did not play music in FLAC and video formats MPG, RMVB, FLV, and also could not cope with the HEVC video codec.

Except Google programs Music, the phone has its own fairly simple player with an equalizer. The phone comes with headphones, the sound in them is not bad for a device at this price.

In synthetic tests, Alcatel PIXI 3 (4.5) received the expected minimal results:

• in GeekBench 3 - 575 points (less than Samsung Galaxy Nexus 3-4 years ago)
• in AnTuTu – 12,259 (one and a half times lower than last year’s Asus Zenfone 4)
• and 3DMark Ice Storm Unlimited did not even want to start, just like the Extreme version. Only Ice Storm earned, in which the phone showed only 2,274 points.

The lightest and simplest games launch and run relatively well, but the heavier game Minion Rush noticeably slows down and the image is not at all smooth. You swipe up to jump, and you already have time to remove your finger from the screen, and the character is just starting to jump.

Memory - 3.0

The Alcatel PIXI 3 (4.5) has 4 GB of internal memory, which is typical for an ultra-low price. Of these, only 1.82 GB is available to the user.

But the phone has a slot for a memory card up to 32 GB. You can get to it only if you remove the cover and take out the device's battery, so there is no need to talk about hot-swapping the card. But the seller again strongly offered me this smartphone.

In the event that the system crashes, that is, the Alcatel 4027D does not boot into Android and/or it is not possible to restore/reinstall the firmware using the official utility, you should use an almost universal solution for working with the memory of MTK devices - the SP FlashTool application.

Among other things, the tool and knowledge of how to work with it will be needed in case of returning to the official version of the system after modified firmware, so familiarize yourself with detailed description methods of using the product will not be superfluous for every owner of the smartphone in question.

In the example below, a “bricked” Pixi 3 is restored and the official version of the system is installed. Download the firmware package from the link below. The archive also contains a version of SP FlashTool suitable for manipulating the device in question.

1. Unpack the archive obtained from the link above into a separate folder.



2. Launch the flasher by opening the file flash_tool.exe, located in the directory with the program.



3. Add a scatter file to the flasher MT6572_Android_scatter_emmc.txt, which is located in the folder with system software images.



4. Selecting the operating mode "Fortmat All+Download" from the drop-down list,

   

   then press "Download".



5. We remove the battery from the smartphone and connect the phone with a USB cable to the PC.
6. After identifying the device in the system, files will be transferred to its memory and the corresponding progress bar will begin to be filled in the SP FlashTool window.



7. Once the recovery is complete, a confirmation window appears "Download OK".



8. Disconnect Alcatel 4027D from the PC, install the battery and start the device by long pressing the key "Inclusion".

Method 3: Modified recovery

The above-described methods for flashing Pixi 3 (4.5) assume the installation of the official version of the system 01001. There are no updates for the OS from the manufacturer, and it is only possible to truly transform the model in question in software terms using custom firmware.

Despite the availability of many different modified Android solutions for the Alcatel 4027D, we cannot recommend using firmware that is based on a system version higher than 5.1. Firstly, the small amount of RAM on the device does not allow you to comfortably use Android 6.0, and secondly, various components often do not work in such solutions, in particular the camera, audio playback, etc.

As an example, we install custom CyanogenMod 12.1 in Alcatel Pixie3. This is firmware based on Android 5.1, practically free of defects and specially prepared to work on the device in question.
