Hello everyone, friends. Today we will finish designing the videos, in this third part I want to tell you what an end screen for a YouTube video is, what role it plays in promoting the channel and how to make it.

IN this moment End screens are an experimental feature and may not be available to everyone at this time.

What is an end screen?

You probably know that after watching a video, YouTube immediately automatically offers you to watch another similar video.

This leads to the user simply switching to it and leaving your channel.

To try to hold on and not lose the viewer, brilliant channel authors came up with the idea of making end screens. Previously, YouTube did not have a special function for this, where everything could be configured in a couple of clicks.

We had to get out of it by editing videos with graphic elements at the end and attaching annotations to them so that they were clickable. Now this method is also used, and I will tell you about it.

The main goal of the end screen in a video - make sure that the user who watches the video to the end takes an action that turns him into a subscriber on your resources and gets acquainted with other materials that interest him on this channel.

This increases the percentage of audience retention on the channel and extends the time spent watching content on it. Which, accordingly, helps to improve the overall statistics of the channel and its promotion.

They are usually used so that the user (viewer) can:

  • Subscribe to the channel.
  • Go to watch the next video and playlists on the channel.
  • Subscribe to accounts on social networks.
  • Go to website.
  • Subscribe to another channel.
  • Purchase some product or service.
  • Find out about some news: promotion, competition, giveaway, etc. (applicable for the old method of creating end screens). Although in the new function you can use graphics at the end of the video.

Here's an example of what it looks like. You can click on all elements and navigate through them.

In this part, we need to think about what the end screen will look like in your videos, and if necessary, order the necessary style elements from the designer or make them yourself.

How to make an end screen for a video?

As you already understood, there are 2 ways to do this.

  1. When editing the video, insert splash screen elements and set up annotations.
  2. Use the new special feature “End Screens”.

Now I will tell you how they are made and what pros/cons they have.

Method 1: Using Annotations

You can embed the ending in this method when editing the video or after uploading it to YouTube in the built-in video editor.

To do this, we need to make a regular channel-style picture according to the dimensions of the video resolution (I make the standard 1280 x 720). On it you place icons of future buttons and inscriptions with a call to take an action, for example, subscribe to a channel.

If you want to insert excerpts from other videos at the end, then simply leave space for them. They can only be done during installation.

Disadvantage of this method The point is that in the future it will be difficult to change this very end screen.

Instead of music, you can insert a voiceover where you can tell something and encourage people to subscribe.

You edit the picture and audio into your video so that it appears at the very end from 5 to 30 seconds.

Upload to the channel and set up annotations. This is done like this:

  1. Come in Creative studio via button “Video Manager”.
  2. "Change".
  3. “Annotations” and configure them.

Another minus is that annotations are not displayed on mobile devices.

Method 2: Using the End Screens feature

To correctly implement this method, you also need to make some kind of ending template, select a background and musical accompaniment, add it in a 5-20 second segment during editing, so as not to overlap the main content of the video. Since the “End Screens” function only allows you to overlay buttons on top of it.

pros this function:

  • Buttons on other videos can be easily edited.
  • They work on mobile devices.
  • You can make links to playlists.
  • It is possible to make sure that a link to the most recently downloaded video is automatically shown.
  • There are separate statistics in YouTube Analytics, you can track and improve conversion rates for them.

Minus is that you cannot use annotations in a video that uses an end screen. You have to choose one thing.

It is located in the same place as the annotations.

  1. Come in “Creative studio” via button “Video Manager”.
  2. Select the desired video and click "Change".
  3. Select a section in the top tab “End Screens and Annotations” and configure them.

They'll be here a little later step by step instructions how to make them.

For now, create a stylized end screen template so you can quickly insert it into new videos and customize it.

By the way, we are done with setting up the channel, let's move on to the lessons on creating videos, uploading them to the channel and optimizing them.

If you have any questions, ask them in the comments.

Appearance end screens- this is very cool new feature YouTube

It has a number of advantages, but at the same time it also has its disadvantages compared to annotations.

Why am I comparing these two functions?

Because we can't select both annotations and end screens in the same video. You need to make your choice.

Having appreciated the “wow” features of “end screens”, do not rush to abandon annotations in their favor. Please note that we can choose one thing.

Advantages and disadvantages

First, analyze all the pros and cons annotations and end screens.

I will name the most significant advantages and disadvantages.

The most important advantage of annotations— they can be added in any quantity and place throughout the video.

The most important flaw— they are not visible on mobile devices.

Important Benefits of end screens:

  • they are visible on computers and mobile devices
  • you can add 5 types of content: video, playlist, website link, link to another channel, subscription to our channel.
  • looks aesthetically pleasing on all devices.

Important lack of end screens— they can only be added to the last 20 seconds of the video.

How do you determine whether end screen or annotations are better for your channel?

Despite the fact that end screens are confidently replacing annotations, because they are visible and work not only on computers, but also on mobile devices, in some cases they are inferior to annotations.

First step, which is important to do is to analyze, What devices are people watching your channel from? on youtube. If a large percentage mobile devices, then there’s nothing to think about. Definitely a choice in favor of end screens.

If, during analysis, you see that the majority of visitors watch your videos from a computer, then there is a reason to choose.

Second step— analyze which benefits are more important to you. For example, you need to add text, a link to the site throughout the video, and not at the end - choose annotations.

She told us all about it and showed it in the video.

In the next post I will tell and show

Hello again, friends!

We will be finishing a series of articles about video design, and today we will talk about the end screen for a YouTube video. We'll tell you what an end screen is, what it's for, and how to make it correctly.

What is an end screen?

Most likely, you have long noticed that after completely finishing watching any video, YouTube will immediately offer another one, similar in topic and content. With certain settings, the proposed video will play automatically after a short pause. In most cases, such a transition to another video automatically means the viewer leaves for someone else’s channel.

To keep every single representative target audience, YouTubers have to resort to tricks.

Over time, all these methods and tricks “evolved” into the form of the end screen, which took the form of a kind of hybrid of a background screen, graphic elements and annotations with links to videos or third-party resources needed by the channel author.

So, the bottom line is that the task of the end screensaver for a YouTube video is to push the viewer, who has watched the video to the end, to take some action - subscribe to the channel, familiarize yourself with other content of the channel, etc.

A well-designed end screen has a positive impact on viewer retention rates, as well as the average duration and depth of video viewing. And these are vital points for promotion.

The end screen can prompt the visitor to:

✔open playlists;

✔buy a product or order a service;

✔find out details about a special offer, last minute promotion, competition with valuable prizes, etc.

Below you can see how this all roughly looks in practice. All “talking” elements are clickable.

Appearance The end screen for your video is not particularly limited - you can use text captions or graphic elements. You can do the latter yourself or order from a specialist, for example, on a freelance exchange.

How to create an end screen for a YouTube video?

Previously, you could only make a functional end screen manually using annotations. Relatively recently, YouTube began testing new feature, which is called - “ End screens" We will look at both methods and take a closer look at the advantages and disadvantages.

Method 1: Using Annotations

So, the manual way to create an end screen is based on using the annotation capabilities. We described how to create and configure them in one of the previous articles.

Create and embed " smart» You can add an ending at the stage of editing the video, or after uploading the video to YouTube, using the built-in editor.

First, choose a picture or collage in the style of your channel that will serve as the background. The image resolution should match the video resolution - in most cases 1280x720 will do.

This picture should contain backgrounds for future buttons and “ motivating» inscriptions. If you plan to place excerpts from other videos on the end screen, just leave empty spaces in the right places on the background image.

You can and should choose music for the screensaver, and it is desirable that this be the same track for all videos on the channel or at least for videos in a certain category. This will maintain a unified style and increase the recognition of your videos and the channel as a whole.

Of course, instead of music, you can use any audio design you like, for example, calls from the announcer to subscribe and like, wishes, anything useful to increase audience loyalty.

Next, the final image and audio need to be embedded in the video so that the splash screen appears from 5 to 30 seconds. You can set the screensaver display time at any time, but the 5-30 seconds we specified are optimal for most types of content on YouTube.

Now upload the video to your channel, after which you can start setting up annotations:

· Login to " Creative studio»;

· click " Change» next to the corresponding video preview;

· Choose a section " Annotations» in the top tab;

· make the planned changes and settings.

This method has its drawbacks - changing the screensaver later will be quite difficult, and such a screensaver will most likely not be displayed on wearable devices. Therefore, it makes sense to consider the second method.

Method 2: Using a built-in function

The method of designing the end screen using the built-in YouTube function partially repeats the manual method. That is, one way or another you will need to make the final picture with background music or voice accompaniment.

During editing, this final image should be separated from the video itself by a short pause, since the function in its current version only allows you to directly apply buttons to the video sequence.

This method has advantages over the manual one:

· the screensaver will be visible on wearable gadgets;

· buttons can be easily and quite conveniently edited without rewiring;

· You can link to playlists within a channel.

· Separate statistics will be kept on the screensaver in YouTube Analytics, which can be tracked and conclusions drawn on the further promotion of the channel.

Tools for creating an end screen are in the same section as annotations.

The main disadvantage of this method is the impossibility of simultaneously using annotations and a built-in end screen in a video. You will have to choose one thing. Partly for the same reason, these tools are located in the same section.

That's all for today. We wish you all good luck, inspiration and a quick increase in popularity for each of your new videos on YouTube.

In the following publications we will learn how to shoot videos, upload them to the channel and optimize them.
