Dr. Web CureIt is a free virus-cleaning utility that can be used to check your computer for viruses. The utility can be used even if another antivirus is installed on the computer, i.e. conflicts between Dr. Web CureIt and installed antivirus does not occur. A big plus of CureIt is that it can be run from a USB flash drive - you do not need to install the program on your computer.
Where to download Dr. Web Cure It Free
Important! Download the utility only from the official website of the program. Otherwise, there is a big risk that you will download a program infected with viruses.
Step 1. Go to the Doctor Web website and click on the button Further (the official site always contains the latest version of Dr. Web CureIt, so do not try to download the utility via torrent).
We read the small user agreement and click the "Next" button.

How to use Dr. Web CureIt
After launching the downloaded file (with the .exe extension), we will be prompted to run the default scan, i.e. in enhanced protection mode.
It is suggested to run Dr.Web CureIt in enhanced protection mode
If you know that the computer is infected with viruses or there are signs of computer infection, then just click OK, after which the scan will begin in enhanced protection mode. In this mode, the malicious activity of viruses will be blocked by the utility.
Important! In enhanced protection mode, you will not be able to work on your computer until the end of the scan.

Step 1. In order to be able to simultaneously scan the computer for viruses and work on it, after starting the utility, click on the Cancel button.

Step 5 Put a checkmark next to the item "My Computer" - after that, all disks available on the PC will be selected. We click on the OK button.

The scan can take several hours - the scan time depends on the performance of the computer and the disk space used.
Most likely Dr. Web CureIt will find something. In a specific case, 6 threats were found, despite the fact that the computer has Kaspersky Internet Security (KIS) with fresh databases. To be fair, it should be noted that the viruses were found not on the “C” drive, but on the “E” drive, on which the installers of some programs and website backups were stored.
Attention! If Dr. Web CureIt has found "left" entries in the hosts file, then before clicking the button Deactivate, read the information below.

What if CureIt wants to fix the hosts file?
So, if in the list of threats appeared host file, then before deciding whether to neutralize the threat or not, it is necessary to proceed from the situation:
- If you cannot access sites such as Odnoklassniki and VKontakte, then it makes sense to let the utility make a change to the hosts file;
- If you use unlicensed Adobe programs, such as Photoshop, you should not rush, as most likely the hosts file will look like this:
All lines that begin with the "#" sign are comments and you can ignore them, as they are not processed. We are interested in four last lines(circled in red):
- 127.0.0.1 lmlicenses.wip4.adobe.com
- 127.0.0.1lm.licenses.adobe.com
- 127.0.0.1 activate.adobe.com
- 127.0.0.1 practivate.adobe.com
These lines are added to the hosts file when unlicensed Adobe software. This is done so that programs cannot contact Adobe services and check the license. If these lines are removed by Dr. Web CureIt, Photoshop, After Affects, Premiere will be blocked.

On the next page, click the "Next" button and last page select the desired link. You can download the utility with sending anonymous statistics ( this method is free), or you can download the program without sending statistics, and in this case you will need to buy it.
Now let's run the file we just downloaded. Put a tick next to the item to take part in improving the quality and click continue.
On the next page, we can choose two ways to check the computer. The first is to click the "Start Check" button. This will run a full scan of your computer. The second is to click on the link "Select objects to scan". In this way, we can only check selected areas of your operating system. Also, on this page on the right upper corner, you can enter the settings by clicking on the icon in the form of a key.
The program does not have many settings, so let's go over them a bit:
Automatically apply actions to threats - everything that is found will be neutralized automatically without your participation. If this option is not set, then you will have to constantly sit and tell the program what to do in this or that case. It is recommended to activate this option by ticking the box next to it;
- Turn off the computer after the scan is completed - after the scan is completed, the computer will automatically turn off. Scanning the entire computer usually takes quite a long time, so it can be very convenient when you put the computer to scan, for example, at night;
- Soundtrack of events - every time the program will do something with your computer, you will receive a notification about it.
There are 4 tabs in the main settings. On the first tab, you can strengthen the protection of the CuteIt program itself while it is running. These are the options: "Block network access" and "Prohibit applications from low-level writing to the hard disk".
On the second "Actions" tab, you can tell the program what measures to apply to the threats found on the computer. On the "Exclusions" tab, you can specify which files or folders are not to be scanned. Well, the last one - "Report", allows you to set the level of detail of the report that you will receive at the end of the program. After you have selected the necessary settings, click the "OK" button below.
Now let's move on to the test itself and click on the "Select objects to test" link.
Next, check the box at the very top to capture the entire operating system by checking. After, go to the link "Click to select files and folders" and select all local drives computer. Drives and virtual disks can be disabled. At the end, click the "Run test" button
The computer scan will start and at the end you will receive a detailed report on what was checked, what threats were found and what measures were applied to them.

Unfortunately, both of these tools will not be able to provide constant protection for your computer, so for complete protection, it is better to use a full-fledged antivirus.

If this is verified information or a reliable site, then it is clear that you will not doubt the reliability of the link you need to follow. But what to do when in doubt?! After all, by clicking on one of these links, you can get to dangerous sites that can damage your computer with viruses and other dangerous programs, for example, pop-up banners.
