One of the requirements for inkjet printer ink is that it must dry as quickly as possible when it hits the paper. At the same time, the ink easily dries in the nozzles of the printer’s print head. To clean ink that has dried in the nozzles and to reliably remove air from the internal volumes of the print head when changing the ink tank, printer manufacturers supply their products with various print head cleaning mechanisms.

One of these mechanisms is a pump that pumps out a small portion of ink from the head and drains it into a container in the printer filled with liquid-absorbing material. Over time, both the absorbent material and the container fill with ink pumped out of the head and dumped into them. To prevent the container from overflowing with evacuated ink, the printer has a counter that takes into account the amount of “discarded” ink and prevents the printer from operating when the container is full.

This mechanism - a container, absorbent material and a counter - is called the printer's diaper.

When ink discard counter waste ink absorber (or pad - mat) counter reaches the specified value (diaper is full - waste ink absorber full), the printer issues a corresponding warning and refuses to continue printing.

The warning is displayed on the computer monitor to which the printer is connected by the Status Monitor program included in the kit. software printer. The message indicates that the reset ink tank is full or that some printer parts have reached the end of their service life and need to be replaced.

The printer itself signals about the diaper with a corresponding light indication.
Many “new” Canon printer models report filling the diaper in series of seven “blinks” of the indicator switching from yellow to green, with a noticeably longer green signal as a series separator.
It looks something like this:
long green - yellow - green - yellow - green - ... - yellow - long green (and so on).

There are SEVEN yellow blinks between long green ones.
Older models in the series have SIX yellow-green blinks.

There is a warning indicator that the diaper is almost full. These are a series of EIGHT pure yellow blinks: long green - yellow - yellow - ... - yellow - long green. You can continue to operate the printer during a warning indication by simply pressing the “Resume” button.

Canon BJC 3000 / 6×00 / S400 / S450 / S4500 user-resolved errors
The indicator blinks ORANGE, then blinks once for a long time - green.

Note: user-fixable errors mean those errors that do not require logging in to resolve. service mode and performing any actions there; for example, when the message “absorber is almost full,” printing continues by pressing the paper feed button, when “error/wrong cartridge type,” the cartridge is changed, etc.

Canon BJC 3000 / 6×00 / S400 / S450 / S4500 errors that cannot be resolved by the user
The indicator blinks ORANGE/GREEN, then blinks green once for a long time.

Resetting the diaper in Canon

To restore the printer's functionality, it is necessary not only to replace the absorbent material, but also to reset the primer counter. Resetting the “cocked” diaper counter is carried out from the printer’s service mode by executing the corresponding service function.

Many Canon printers have a built-in reset service. And entering the service mode, and selecting-executing service functions They do it from the printer keyboard. Resetting the diaper on these printers, as a rule, does not cause any difficulties.

Diaper reset code for Canon Pixma printers
  • Turn off the printer.
  • While holding down the Resume button, press the POWER button.
  • While holding the POWER button, release the RESUME button.
  • Then press the RESUME button twice again.
  • Release all buttons.
The indicator will blink green and remain green.
  • Press the RESUME button 4 times to reset the diaper or another number of times if you need to perform another operation. Look at the table:
    • 1 time – Orange – Service test print
    • 2 times - Green - EEPROM information print
    • 3 times - Orange - EEPROM initialization
    • 4 times – Green – Waste ink counter setting
    • 5 times – Orange – Destination setting (Press Power > Press Resume 3x)
    • 6 times – Green – Print head deep cleaning
    • 11-13 times – Orange, Green, Orange – Return to menu selection
    • 14 times – Green – Left margin correction
Disabling the remaining ink counter in Canon Pixma

If, after refilling a cartridge, the printer complains that there is no ink in the cartridge, don’t worry! In order for the printer to print and not swear, you need to disable the ink level monitoring system in cartridges once and for all - press the flashing button (middle, triangle in a circle) and hold for 10 seconds until the message disappears from the monitor.

But there are a number of Canon printers that do not have a built-in service mode or do not always work correctly - these are i320, i250-355, Pixma iP1000, iP1300/1700, iP1500, iP1200/1600/2200, iP1800, iP2000, iP3000/4000/5000 , iP4200/5200, iP6000/8500; instead you need use the utility program General Tools. It's different for different models printers. Above we grouped them by compatibility.
To perform the service mode functions of these printers, you need a computer with Win98, ME, 2000 or XP OS, a printer driver, a service program and, of course, the printer itself.

Other brands of printers also have diapers, for example Epson, which also need to be reset using service utilities. In any case, overflowing the counter leads to blocking the printer.

Some new models Epson printers, including the R220, the value of the “diaper” counter, at which it is charged and blocks the operation of the printer, does NOT have a constant value. The value at which the “diaper” will work is selected by the printer itself depending on its operating conditions, and lies within a certain range. From minimal to maximum possible. In this case, the current value is more than two times less than the maximum possible, and the “diaper” counter is already charged. Most likely, the algorithm for selecting the moment of operation is based on the following: the less frequently the printer pumping mechanism is turned on, the higher the value the counter will reach before it is charged. (The ink evaporates from the absorbent mat...)

It is also worth remembering that after 2-3 drops of the absorber, it is necessary to physically replace the gasket due to its wear.

You can always collect diapers (absorbers) at our service center.

For those who repair Canon inkjet printers, and simply owners of these devices who independently service them.

    How to use the programs.
...in any case, first you need to enter the service mode:

    For devices of group a - iP3600, iP4600, MP190, MP240, MP250, MP260, MP480, MP540, MP620, MP630, MP980
1 Turn off the device (...the device must be connected to the computer via USB...)
2 Press and hold down the Resume button indicated by a triangle in a circle
3 Without releasing the Resume button, press the ON button (keep both buttons pressed)
4 When the power indicator lights up, release Resume (hold ON) and press it twice, then release both buttons
    5 Run the program ServiceTool_V1020 (or 1050)

    For devices of group b - iP1200, iP1300, iP1600, iP1700, iP1800, iP1900, iP2200, iP2500, iP2600
1 Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord from the printer
2 Press and hold the power button
3 Without releasing the power button, connect the power cord
4 Continue to hold the power button pressed. After the power-on indicator lights up, press the Resume button twice (the printer should respond to each press by switching the display - the first time you press it from green to yellow, the second time from yellow to green), then release both buttons. If the USB cable has been disconnected, it will not hurt to connect it before starting ServiceTool.
    5 Run the program ServiceTool_aV300 (or 700)

Theoretically, for the program to work, a printer or MFP driver is not necessary (I didn’t install it - the programs worked anyway...), but my opinion is that it’s better to install it... ...if you don’t want to bother with installing the driver, the computer will start the installation new equipment - just click "cancel".

For the program v1020 (1050 - haven’t used it yet, but it should be the same...) - if the device is connected to the computer and is in service mode - in the right top corner program window, in the "USB port" window there should be the number of the active port, i.e. your device (the port is detected automatically when the program is launched) - if only one device is connected to the computer -> just in the “Clear ink Counter” section, click “Main” and “Platen” - both counters will be reset.
If you doubt whether the program has identified the right device, in the upper section “Print” click “Test print” or “EEPROM” - if the device is the right one, it will print (after asking which tray to print from) or test page, or data from EEPROM - depending on your choice...
    - Prog v300 - have not used - iP1900 and iP2600 printers are reset perfectly by the GeneralTool program for iP1800 - 2500... ...there is no time to experiment with the new program yet... ...but judging by the program window - everything is the same as at GeneralTool...

Bye on this moment, I tested the v1020 program on MP190, MP240, MP260, MP540 and iP4600 devices (...I didn’t reset the “diaper” at 4600 - there was no need - I just checked how the program works with it...).
...there was one glitch - I tried to reset one of the MP190 on another computer - after entering the service mode and launching the program - in the USB port window it was "none" - i.e. On one computer this device was detected without problems, but on the other it was not. I closed the program and, without turning off the MFP, rebooted the computer, after the reboot the MFP program saw it and worked normally with it... ...this is so far the only glitch that I have encountered with this program...

Using the STV1050 program, I reset the MP250 and MP270 MFPs, although the dock for the program does not explicitly say that these models are supported, and these MFPs began to be produced after the release of this program, nevertheless, everything works fine, just like on the MP240, MP260... ...so, for your information...

...just in case, if when working with a program in the program window, an error code appears in the status bar and the program does not work - what does the error code mean and how can you deal with it - you can look at ISMPC ...

I checked it on a canon mp190 and reset the diaper without any problems.

    =====================
I barely dug up GeneralTool iP1300 dan iP1700... In short, less snot... practice:

    Step 1
Turn off the printer power (power cord)
Press the "Power" button and do not release it
Connect the power cord (the green indicator lights up)
Press Resume 2 times and release both buttons

The printer came to life for a while

    Step 2
Launch the program (oddly enough) GeneralTool iP2200_iP1600_iP1200
    Check the box EEPROM CLEAR
    Inserting paper into the printer
    and Test Pattern 1

P.S. Oddly enough, the program GeneralTool iP1300 dan iP1700 did not want to reset... it screams again. swears
    but GeneralTool iP2200_iP1600_iP1200 helped

Can I ask where to get it? source codes programs (or is this classified information?) and how to compile them or simply put them under ubuntu linux 64 bit?
emulation does not solve the issue.

IPTool and MPTool are homemade products that, with a high degree of probability, if handled carelessly, will ruin the devices irrevocably.
But in this topic there is no talk about homemade products - “corrected” service programs from the manufacturer are posted here.

...STV1050 also works with MP550 and iP4700 devices... - I ran into a problem! I did everything as described in How to use programs. message 3 -
after releasing two buttons (IP 4700 Pixma), the power indicator blinks 2-3 times and lights up constantly, I launch the STV1050 or STV1020 program, I press clear, all the buttons become inactive, the printer makes noise as if feeding paper - and all this state can hang 10 or more menus and nothing - What do you recommend - thanks in advance

Inkjet technology often uses a unit called an absorber. Why it is needed and what it consists of is written in detail on various sites, for example, but here I decided to post service programs for resetting the printer absorber various models, collected from various sources.

Some Canon printer models can also be reset using certain button combinations.

To use reset programs, the printer must be in test mode; in general,

1 Turn off the device (the device must be connected to the computer).

Is there any error in the printer?

    Tamara, hello!

What is the absorber of a multifunction device or printer? This is a special absorbent sponge that is located under the print head of the device. When you turn on or clean the MFP, ink is pumped through the aforementioned head of the device and flows into a compartment with an absorbent sponge inside. Of course, after a certain time of using the printer, there comes a time when the absorber can no longer absorb the flowing ink and overflows. To warn owners of Canon equipment (in our case, the MP160 model) about an impending problem, error E8 exists. If the indicator displays this particular code, it means that the absorber compartment will soon be full. If the printer reports error E27, then the waste ink absorber is already full.

Since Canon manufacturers created the E8 error with the expectation of a small reserve in the absorber compartment, resetting the waste ink level counter will extend the life of the MFP. But this option is only suitable when this error arose for the first time, since in this case you risk overfilling the absorbent pad ahead of schedule, and the only way to get rid of the problem is to have the absorber mechanically cleaned by a service center specialist.

To reset the meter, follow the steps exactly:

  • Turn off the connected device using the Power ON/OFF button.
  • Press and hold the Resume button and turn on the device again using the Power ON/OFF button, but do not release it. This way you are holding down two buttons on the printer at the same time.
  • Now, while holding down the “Power ON/OFF” button, you need to release “Resume”.
  • Click on “Resume” again briefly 2 times.
  • Release the Power ON/OFF button. If at this moment the green indicator on the MFP flashes, then you have done everything correctly: the device has entered service mode and is ready to enter instructions.
  • Click on “Resume” 4 times. contract. With each subsequent press, the glowing indicator should change its color: either green or orange.
  • Press “Power ON/OFF” 1 time to confirm the selected action, i.e. Resetting the waste ink counter.
  • Click “Resume” again as many times as necessary to select the required subfunction:
  • Resetting the waste ink level of the main absorber counter to the original values - do not press the “Resume” button at all (0 p.);
  • Resetting the waste ink level of the additional absorber counter to the original values - press the “Resume” button once;
  • Resetting the level of both the main and additional absorber waste ink counters to the original values - click on “Resume” 2 p.
  • Press the “Power ON/OFF” button 1 time. - this will start the execution of the subfunction you have selected (0, 1 or 2 clicks of “Resume” in the previous paragraph).
  • Press the “Power ON/OFF” button again to turn off the device.
  • Precise Execution of this algorithm action guarantees that you will get rid of the E8 error for a certain period of time. However, I want to say that you should not repeat this technique twice: take pity on your MFP and give it to service center to clean the absorber.

    Sincerely, Alexander.
