Convenience of everyday use

The Gear Fit 2 uses a screen with a diagonal of 1.5" and a resolution of 432x216 pixels. It showed itself perfectly in any conditions: the brightness and display quality are always on top. As for the painted metal case, it is quite difficult to scratch it, we had to use the bracelet for this (almost intentionally ) dropped on the asphalt. And even in this case, the scratches remained invisible, and the curved glass was not damaged at all. The display bezel visually merges with the body, and the body itself can be painted in one of three colors: black, and.

The rubber strap is attached to the case with tricky latches; two versions of sizes are available for sale - large and small (respectively, the letters L and S on the box of the device). The bracelet is fastened well and it is very problematic to "shake" it off your hand by accident - even during training or during sleep. We tested the version with a large strap - for adults it fits well. But for a child's hand, you should choose a reduced strap.

We had a black bracelet on the test - it is practical and does not catch the eye even with a shirt. If you wear the bracelet with a T-shirt, it attracts the attention of others, because you can activate the screen by raising or shaking your hand. There are two physical buttons in Gear Fit 2: one is responsible for stepping back, and the second for turning it on and off, quickly calling up the main menu or returning to main screen- it is easy to get used to them, after a week they are controlled completely blindly. The strap is comfortable and does not really interfere, even if you do not remove the bracelet at night (the first version of the Gear Fit had to be removed at night). Without removing the bracelet at night, you can track your sleep and use the alarm function. When alerting, the bracelet vibrates gently, you can adjust the duration of the vibration.

The pixel density of 353ppi is clear and saturated, but fades a little in bright sunlight. This can be solved by setting the brightness to maximum (there are eleven brightness divisions in total, but after five minutes of operation at the 11th division, the bracelet automatically reduces the brightness in order to save battery). With somewhat cloudy weather, and even more so indoors, the problem disappears by itself.

But there is no brightness sensor in the bracelet, but it can be easily adjusted from the notification curtain. In general, this does not bring inconvenience - in gloomy autumn weather, the brightness can be set to the third division and it will be enough for both the house and the street.

To charge the bracelet, a magnetic docking station is used. Much more practical than the "snap-on charger" on the first Gear Fit, it connects to any USB and can fully charge the bracelet in about an hour. The bracelet has symmetrical charging contacts, so you can put it on the docking station either way. The bracelet charges in about one hour, and displays the time during charging.

Samsung Gear software, additional features and alerts

Samsung Gear The Fit2 can connect to a smartphone via Bluetooth or remotely via Wi-Fi. At the same time, at remote connection messages are transmitted via Samsung servers, so that the bracelet and phone are not necessarily in the same range. wireless network. All networks from which passwords are saved on your smartphone become available for Gear Fit2. Additional apps and watch faces for Tizen (the OS that the watch runs on) can be accessed and downloaded via Bluetooth via the Samsung Gear app.

The number of different watch faces in the Samsung Apps store for Gear Fit 2 is simply huge - both free and paid. The craftsmen ran other applications for Tizen on the watch, but in this case, you will need to install them on the watch manually via a PC.

That the Gear Fit2 can work with any Android devices, this is a definite plus. But there are questions about the convenience of “pairing” - for full-fledged work, you will need to install three (!) Applications: Samsung Gear, the GearFit2 Plugin application and Samsung Accessory Service, and only after that the bracelet made friends with MIUI on Xiaomi. This is true for all devices except Samsung.

The Samsung Gear app itself is well known to owners. smart watch Samsung S2\S3: here you can change the watch face, select which smartphone notifications should be displayed on the bracelet screen, send music from your smartphone to the Gear Fit 2 memory, and change various settings. Why send music? Gear Fit 2 is not only a fitness tracker, but also an mp3 player that allows you to listen to your favorite tracks via Bluetooth headphones.

We tested this feature with - it works great, making it easy to turn on music without looking for a smartphone. The player itself has playlists, and songs with a rhythmic tempo automatically fall into the "training" playlist. From the interface of the music player, you can also control the playback of music on your phone - everything is standard here, there is switching tracks, adjusting the volume. This function proved to be excellent when driving a car (and in public transport too) - while you are in a traffic jam or when it is inconvenient to get your phone, you can switch the track on your smartphone with a slight movement.

Managing the bracelet is simple: from the “main screen” of the watch, you can scroll the screen to the left: notifications and messages about received sports achievements are hidden here. It is much more convenient than a faceless icon or an alert “you have a message from one of 100,500 programs on your smartphone” as on - most alerts are displayed in full on the screen, they can be answered with pre-prepared phrases or an emoticon (if this is a message from a messenger or SMS message). Additional functionality is also supported, if provided by the program - for Gmail this is archiving and deleting letters, for instant messengers - a response with an emoji smiley, and so on.

A separate convenience is the ability to display passwords for two-factor authentication on the screen (if they come in a message or a regular Android notification). Watching the password on the bracelet and entering it on a laptop is much more convenient than using a smartphone for this purpose. You can also quickly reply with an emoji to a message or customize your own replies. The most popular (except for emoji smileys) in our case were the phrases "I'm writing from the clock, I'll answer later" and the standard answers "Yes" or "No". Another useful feature is the activation of the search for a smartphone from the bracelet - while the phone emits a loud signal. Helps to find a lost smartphone among other gadgets in the house!

If you scroll to the left, panels with widgets will open. No more than eight widgets work at the same time. With a gesture from top to bottom, you can call up the panel: there you can adjust the brightness, do not disturb mode and control the player. Additional programs (for example, an alarm clock) are hidden in the settings menu. This is confusing at first, but given that there are only two places to "search" for programs (menus or widget screens), this does not cause much inconvenience.

You can change the watch face very easily - just hold your finger on the main screen. And to turn off the screen, you need to cover the bracelet with your palm - you quickly get used to this gesture and it works flawlessly.

We've been actively testing the Together mode, which is a widget that allows you to compete with other S-Health users (whether they have Gear Fit 2 or not), as well as compare your achievements with the average performance of all users. Setting goals for the competition, teasing the opponent - all these functions are implemented simply and beautifully. You can select goals by steps - from 10 to 100 thousand steps and follow the progress of your friends. You can compare your scores with all users, with friends, or with users in your age group.

Fitness features

The bracelet is equipped with a bunch of features for tracking fitness functions: it has an accelerometer, a gyroscope and a barometer, which allows you to count steps, heart rate and even lifts.

Gear Fit 2 is able to determine such physical exercises as: running, running on a treadmill, walking and hiking, squats, lunges, exercises on simulators (stepper, exercise bike and others), Pilates and even yoga. For those who did not find the desired workout in the list, there is a “other” mode - after in S-Health you can specify what you did, and the watch will record the time and the approximate number of calories burned. Information about activity per day is presented in the form of a round diagram.

Of all this diversity, we actively used tracking squats and lunges - it's nice that before the start of the exercise, the bracelet suggests the optimal position on the arm for accurate tracking. We had no issues with tracking accuracy when running and walking - everything worked stably and without surprises.

A separate "chip" is a GPS sensor, which is built right into the bracelet. Some reviews have concluded that its presence will save the battery of the smartphone, but this is not entirely true. If the bracelet is connected to a device with GPS and you are exercising with it, then the GPS sensor on the smartphone will be activated. However, if you decide to go for a run without a smartphone, then the GPS in the bracelet will work. By disabling location detection on your smartphone, you can force track recording to be activated on the watch itself.

The battery built into the Samsung Gear Fit 2 has a capacity of 200 mAh: this is really enough for more than 3 days of operation of the bracelet in normal mode(without automatic heart rate monitor), two full days of work with small daily workouts with automatic heart rate measurement turned on (the bracelet will be asked to charge by the end of the second day) or for one day when GPS, heart rate monitor, music player and continuous alerts are activated. If you force the bracelet to write a track for many hours while cycling, you can discharge it in a few hours.

The results of a walk, hike or run can be seen on the watch itself: in the form of a map (using Here Maps) and in the form of a graphical summary of the results. During training, the heart rate monitor also works, suggesting not only the results obtained, but also a brief hint on their interpretation. The heart rate monitor also measures your heart rate throughout the day - this allows you to track your heart rate in various situations: for example, while driving, while watching a movie, and even in a dream. You can view the results of these measurements both on the bracelet and through the S-Health application. You can track the dynamics and separately specify markers for manual measurement, for example, "After training."

During the month of testing, we did not manage to discharge the bracelet faster than in a day, with a fairly active mode of use - without GPS, but with automatic tracking of heart rate, workouts and with a constant connection via Bluetooth. With a deep discharge, the bracelet offers to switch to power saving mode - the screen becomes black and white and displays only basic information, and alerts and sensors are turned off.

The most useful feature is the absolutely automatic triggering of the activity record (this feature can be disabled in the settings if desired). Are you walking for a long time? The bracelet will start recording the walk. Have you gone running? Expect an encouraging message! Are you going up the stairs? Don't worry, everything is recorded. Only before starting specific workouts, you need to start recording them manually. This eliminates the need to follow and be distracted by the bracelet - convenient and efficient! Checked - everything is so. When walking fast, recording starts after 10 minutes of activity, which allows you to avoid too short movements (for example, when you catch up with the last bus).

Water and dust protection

The Gear Fit 2 is IP68 water and dust resistant. And this is good! You can not be afraid of rain and dust, but you still should not swim and dive in it. And yet, through Gear Fit 2, you can track the number of cups of coffee and water drunk. Let's be honest - we did not track the data on the water drunk, but it was interesting to track the consumption of caffeine.

All this data, as well as training records, is synchronized with the S-Health app on your smartphone. If you do not remove the bracelet during sleep, this will allow it to determine its effectiveness. On the bracelet itself, information about sleep is minimal (only the duration and interval of the pulse), but inside S-Health all the details are hidden, both about sleep and about everything that happened with the bracelet.

conclusions

Based on the results of a long acquaintance with Samsung Gear Fit 2, we liked it, it is definitely a successful bracelet. Its fitness features are far superior to the original Gear Fit in terms of convenience, and among similarly priced smartwatches and fitness bands with much more modest screens, Samsung's sports solution looks just fine. However, we also found several shortcomings, for example, there is still no application for pairing the bracelet with the iPhone, and for ease of installation branded applications under Android there are remarks.

But there is a way out in this situation - Samsung Gear Fit 2 can be used as a separate device! Notifications from the smartphone in this case do not come, but you can track exercises, calorie consumption, heart rate, steps and sleep. This is a big step forward from previous version Gear Fit or with other bracelets that, in principle, cannot work as standalone devices.

If you need a beautiful accessory for occasional sports, with GPS and convenient informative on-screen alerts, as well as with an unusual curved screen and many communication options, we recommend choosing. If you need additional functionality, and fitness opportunities are not a priority, pay attention to.

Fitness bracelets are much more popular than their close relatives - smart watches. Last but not least, this is influenced by the cost of these devices, because the first ones are much cheaper. For example, fitness bracelets from Chinese manufacturers, including well-known ones, often cost no more than protective glass to a smartphone. But the hero of this review is a completely different field. The average retail price for the Samsung Gear Fit 2 Pro is $200. Expensive? Undoubtedly! Smart watches from Xiaomi are almost half the price. But do not rush to conclusions.

Specifications

Samsung Gear Fit 2 Pro is built on the basis of a dual-core processor with a frequency of up to 1 GHz, and is also equipped with 512 MB of RAM and a built-in storage capacity of 4 GB. This set is more than enough for a smooth and fast work interface of a fitness bracelet running Tizen OS. Of course, there is a heart rate monitor, a gyroscope, a barometer and an accelerometer. Bluetooth 4.2 and WiFi 802.11 b/g/n modules (2.4 GHz band) are responsible for communication. The presence of the GPS / GLONASS module allows you to do without a companion smartphone when recording tracks during runs, which is extremely convenient. The battery capacity is 200 mAh.

Appearance, display and usability

The change in weight and size characteristics relative to the previous model, Samsung Gear Fit 2, is completely insignificant. The dimensions of the device without a strap are 51.3 * 25.0 mm, and the weight is only 33 grams. A slight change in dimensions is due to the fact that the tested device has protection against water ingress along ISO standard 22810-2010. Diving is possible to a depth of 50 meters. The case is not even afraid of salt water, but after use, the bracelet must be rinsed in fresh water, which is a standard recommendation for most wearable waterproof devices. However, the dimensions and weight of the device are still small, and unlike smart watches, you don’t want to take them off at night (and if you have a restless sleep, then it’s better to remove a heavy watch from your hand so as not to harm yourself at least).

The bracelet is equipped with a 1.5-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 432x216 pixels and support for the Always on Display function. The brightness of the display is quite sufficient even when falling on it in direct sunlight. But in such conditions, it is still better to choose the most contrasting watch faces and themes. And there are a lot of them in the app store, both paid and free, and there are a lot of pre-installed themes - 14 pieces. In addition, you can activate the "outdoor" function, which activates the maximum backlight level for 5 minutes.

The display, like the rest of the case, was surprisingly durable and resistant to scratches. On Samsung testing Gear Fit 2 Pro came during the active stage of renovation in the apartment. And not a light cosmetic one, but a major one with work that may not have the best effect on the performance of the device. But even in such difficult operating conditions, the tested fitness bracelet turned out to be all right. Its performance was not affected by bathing in a solution of gypsum plaster, accidental impacts on abrasive surfaces, and even a fall from a three-meter height onto a concrete floor (the buckle on the belt is classic and reliable, but it was not fully tightened before the fall). Of course, at first there were concerns about scratches on the screen, but, as practice has shown, in order to put a mark on the screen, you still need to try. But the dust on the rubber strap collects at an incredible speed and it is extremely difficult to remove it.

The bracelet is controlled using a touch screen and a pair of keys. Swiping down on the screen brings up a curtain with icons for adjusting the brightness of the display, activating the do not disturb mode, launching the music player and turning on the swimming mode, in which the touch display is turned off. The latter function should also be used if you are caught in the rain, otherwise accidental presses are possible when the screen comes into contact with wet clothes. Swipe to the right opens a list of notifications received from the smartphone. Swipe to the left scrolls through the widgets of installed applications. The order and number of widgets can be adjusted to your taste.

In work

At initial setup operating system urges you to install additional software on your smartphone. Ignoring this requirement will not work, because otherwise it will not work to connect the bracelet with a smartphone. The list of installed software is standard for portable Samsung devices– Gear S Plugin, Samsung Accessory Service and Samsung Gear and S Health.

S Health App

In the main application, Samsung Gear, you can view information about the battery charge, estimated time battery life at the current load, as well as information about the state of RAM and ROM. Besides, this application allows you to install additional new watch faces (themes) and additional software.

In settings samsung apps Gear, you can set up application notifications, send music to the bracelet's memory, set up emergency alerts (sending your location coordinates to "emergency numbers" from the phone book). There is also a “find my gear” function, the activation of which causes the bracelet to vibrate, which makes it easier to find it. In addition, you can set up quick responses to incoming messages and responses to rejected calls. This function in total with the ability to answer/reject incoming call using a bracelet, as well as reading SMS, messenger messages and notifications social networks, allows you to rarely use a smartphone, managing only a fitness bracelet and a headset. In general, everything is like in a full-fledged smart watch.

There are few pre-installed applications in the bracelet, but they are all useful. These are music, a daily activity log, setting exercise modes, a pedometer, counting floors climbed, a heart rate monitor, programs for controlling drinking water and coffee, a timer, a stopwatch, a calendar synchronized with a smartphone, and a weather forecast application, data about which can be obtained both through a smartphone and when connected to a WiFi router.

During training, one of the most important tools is the heart rate monitor. With a good fit to the hand, its readings are quite accurate. Of course, it is not suitable for professional athletes, but for the average user, its capabilities will be more than enough. In addition to the function of measuring the pulse directly during training, the bracelet can check the pulse throughout the day. The measurement interval is set very conditionally - always, often and never. When set to continuous metering, the battery charge is consumed much faster.

The pedometer works almost flawlessly and does not miss a single step. In addition to this, during a run or a quick step, the bracelet periodically cheers you up with messages or informs you about the completion of the activity plan planned for the day. Unfortunately, in automatic mode determining the type of load when driving in a car on our, not always high-quality, roads, the bracelet sometimes starts counting steps. Especially often this effect is manifested when driving at low speed.

The function of counting the passed floors is no longer designed for counting the floors directly, but for the height difference, and for a floor it takes a rise to a level of 3 meters. As already noted, the testing of the bracelet was carried out during the renovation of the apartment, and the bracelet helped to collect interesting statistics. For example, it was amusing to learn that 36 formal floors had to be overcome to install the wiring under the ceiling in one room, and when cleaning after repairs in an ordinary apartment, 11.6 km were covered in a day. There are few benefits from this, but there is a “wow effect”.

The bracelet also helps track the number of cups of water and coffee drunk, as well as count the number of calories consumed. But for this you need to manually enter the volume and type of food and liquids consumed, which is not always convenient, therefore given function will be useful only to those users who are very responsible in their health issues. But the function of determining the phases of sleep works automatically. Sleep statistics can be viewed both on the bracelet screen and in the S Health app on your smartphone.

There are very few third-party applications, and most of them require additional accessories like smart sneakers or chest heart rate monitors and external blood pressure monitors.

Music

Listening to music or audiobooks is possible with a Bluetooth headset, and you can listen to tracks from your smartphone, using the bracelet as a remote control, or from the device's memory. The list of supported formats is quite standard - MP3, M4A, 3GA, AAC, OGG, OGA, WAV, WMA, AMR, AWB. A 4 GB drive will not be completely dedicated to music, because only 2 GB is available for the user's needs, where you still need to fit the installed software and design themes, as well as the collected activity statistics. Subject does not have a built-in speaker or microphone.

Battery life and charging

The battery is charged using a special docking station with magnetic fixation of the device being charged. Thanks to the presence of 4 contacts on the charger, when you install a fitness bracelet, you do not have to monitor its position. Unfortunately, the USB cable is non-removable, so replacing it with any third-party one, as in the case of the docking station supplied with the Samsung Gear S3, will not work. But there are pluses - the process of charging a completely discharged battery takes only 1 hour. You can monitor the charge both using the indication on the display and through a smartphone. The only bad thing is that at the end of the charging process there is no light or sound indication both on the device itself and on the smartphone, so you can simply forget about the bracelet. Because of this feature, the tested Samsung Gear Fit 2 Pro often remained on charge all night, which made it difficult to collect sleep phase statistics.

You have to charge the bracelet often. With an average display brightness level, a constant connection to a smartphone, an activated navigation module and frequent automatic heart rate measurement, the operating system insistently asks you to activate the power saving mode after 19-21 hours of operation. If you do not follow this advice, then after 23 hours the battery runs out completely. These indicators do not fit at all with the declared duration of 3-4 days. During a long test, the maximum battery life was 2.5 days. But to achieve this result, I had to dim the display brightness, disable the Always on Display function, the navigation module, and also turn on the screen when notifications come from the smartphone. But in this mode of operation, a fitness bracelet is not much different from more affordable analogues. In general, from a subjective point of view, it is better to activate all functions, but remember to charge the bracelet every day.

Conclusion

Despite its high cost, the Samsung Gear Fit 2 Pro left a very positive impression. I will say more, I simply did not want to part with him upon completion of testing. Of course, Samsung Gear S3 watches are more suitable for a business suit, and in both versions, but in all other situations, the capabilities of the tested bracelet are quite enough. For complete satisfaction, perhaps the only thing missing is an NFC module for calculating in terminals with support for “near field communication” technology.

Pros:
- weight and size indicators;
– durable waterproof case;
– excellent display with support for Always on Display;
– availability of Bluetooth and WiFi modules;
- smooth operation of the interface.

Minuses:
– battery life;
- high price.

Samsung Gear Fit 2 (Gear Fit 2)- "smart" watches for sports and fitness. Compared to Gear Fit 1, the second model in the series has several advantages: built-in GPS, improved water and dust resistance, compact screen and support third party applications. The design of the device has also changed.

Fast passage

Design and interface

The most noticeable change in the new model is the color. In addition to the dark gray hue, blue and pink were added. The color of the straps matches the color of the case, and the straps are now attached to the main unit separately, and are not a single unit, as they used to be.

The silicone strap closes with a metal latch that fits into the eyelet. Not the most reliable method given the wear and tear of the material, but the high strength of silicone compensates for this shortcoming. This method of fastening ensures that the strap does not accidentally unfasten during training.

The display has become less elongated, which reduced the likelihood of scratching it. The decision to shrink the screen took some of the elegance away from the Gear Fit and made it look like other fitness smartwatches. On the sides of the display is protected by a metal plate that is resistant to abrasion. The constantly chafing silver trim of the previous model is now a thing of the past.

Mainly used for clock control touch screen, but there are also two buttons on the edge of the case - the large one performs the “back” command, and the other one opens the application menu on the dial or returns to the main screen. The dial can be customized to display necessary information e.g. distance travelled.

On the side tabs are widgets with fitness information: the number of steps, floors climbed and heart rate. After pressing the small side button, the application menu will open.

All icons are arranged in a column one by one, which will not appeal to fans of installing dozens of applications.

Specifications

  • Screen: 1.5 inches, Super AMOLED.
  • Processor: Dual Core SoC: Samsung Exynos 3250 1GHz.
  • Memory: 512 RAM, 4 GB flash (about 2 GB available).
  • Sensors: gyroscope, heart rate sensor, barometer, accelerometer, gyroscope.
  • Additional features: Bluetooth, GPS.

For a smartwatch, these are impressive specs. dual core processor with a frequency of 1 GHz is enough for stable operation of the device. Compared to its predecessor, Gear Fit 2 has increased screen resolution to 216 x 432 pixels.

As a result - clearer icons, it is easier to make out small numbers. Of the 4 gigabytes of memory for storing files, only two are free, the rest of the space is occupied by system files.

The Gear Fit 2 runs on Linux-based Tizen OS, which, together with the Super AMOLED display, guarantees a low discharge rate.

In standby mode, the watch will work without recharging for at least three days (the developers claim five days). When GPS is on, a full battery charge takes 9 hours.

Functionality

To use the watch, you need any device with an OS android version from 4.4 and 1.5 GB RAM. You will need to install as many as four applications on this device, although you will only have to work with two:

  • Samsung Gear - manage widgets, music, settings and notifications;
  • S Health is the premier fitness information aggregator.

The basic set of applications on the watch allows you to count steps, distance traveled, the number of approaches in certain exercises (lunges, jumps, etc.), you can also record calories.

Except basic functions To track your workouts and nutrition, the S Health app supports competitive mode. Connect with a friend and beat him on points in any exercise. The downside of this feature is that you can compete with only one person.

The manufacturer of 4K TVs, smartphones and refrigerators continues to develop in the field of gadgets for a healthy lifestyle. In addition to developing smartwatches, the electronics giant decided to focus on a dedicated line of fitness-only trackers dubbed Gear. The latest fitness tracker is Samsung Gear Fit2 Pro - updated Samsung version Gear Fit 2, which is one of the best designs on the market. With built-in GPS, Spotify support, and a new waterproof design, the Gear Fit 2 Pro expands on its predecessor. Is this $200 tracker worth choosing over the many competitors? This detailed gear review Fit 2 Pro allows you to answer this question.

Packed in a square box, the Samsung Gear Fit 2 Pro comes with a large or small strap - unlike the Ionic Fitbit, which comes with two straps. The kit also comes with a standard charging dock, as well as instructions for use. Most often, the tracker is already charged and ready to use, and you just need to sync the device via Bluetooth with your smartphone and download the accompanying Gear Fit app.

Gear Fit 2 Pro design and features

While the design is nearly identical, the Pro has a new elastomer strap that comes in two different color combinations (black/red or black/black). This strap gives the tracker a stylish appearance whether you're wearing workout clothes or a formal suit. The Gear Fit 2 Pro is also extremely comfortable, and the light weight of the tracker is almost imperceptible on the wrist during the day. The user remembers the presence of the tracker only during vibration from notifications. Unlike its predecessor, the Gear Fit 2 Pro has a water resistance rating of up to 50 meters, so users don't need to take it off when exercising in the pool or in the shower.

The ability to track a wide variety of exercises and daily activities, along with a new waterproof design and the ability to play and store music, is the Gear Fit 2 Pro's main selling point, which offers a wealth of features in a relatively compact package. Directly on the display of the tracker, data on the number of steps taken, calories burned, flights of stairs and heart rate are available. Scrolling to the right reveals a deeper look at the user's daily activity statistics. The navigation process is not much different from working with Fitbit Blaze, or where you can also quickly view the user's daily statistics.

Undoubtedly, the best upgrade is the Gear Fit 2 Pro's water resistance rating of up to 50 meters. In addition to standard data tracking, Samsung has teamed up with clothing brand Under Armor to develop apps that can accurately track your runs and swims, as well as keep a daily log of your diet. These apps include UA Record to help users track sleep cycles and daily fitness, while MapMyRun and MyFitnessPal provide training and nutrition planning respectively. For those looking to seriously improve their health and fitness, Samsung's Gear Fit 2 Pro provides the tools to not only keep track of your current progress, but stay on top of your goals. The created special ecosystem really allows you to improve and maintain health.

Companion tracker apps Samsung Gear Fit and Samsung Health (Android, iOS) seamlessly integrate the Gear Fit2 Pro, bringing extra work to the minimum. For example, you can register and then adjust the number of cups of coffee you drink each day. To do this, there is a corresponding app menu on the Gear Fit 2 Pro, allowing owners to enter the amount of coffee in milligrams by pressing + or -. Daily caffeine intake and syncs with the Gear Fit app on a connected smartphone, providing long-term monitoring. There is a similar feature for water consumption, and deeper nutrition tracking can be done through the MyFitness Pal or UA Record apps.

It's worth noting that the Gear Fit2 Pro uses two apps, and the entire Fitbit ecosystem is hosted in just one external app, allowing users to view health data and enter nutrition information. Using two applications can be inconvenient for some. The Samsung Gear Fit 2 Pro encourages you to stay active with alerts and automatic tracking. After you've been sitting still for about an hour, the tracker will vibrate slightly to alert you to inactivity. At the same time, simple graphic image"Time to Get on Your Feet" adorns the screen, disappearing only after you get up and walk for a few minutes.

While the Samsung Gear Fit2 Pro is more of a fitness tracker than a full-featured smartwatch, it still offers a useful suite of apps and accurate GPS functionality. As discussed above, Samsung is building on a collaboration with Under Armor to develop a series of apps to expand its functionality. The device also has a built-in weather app, stopwatch, timer, and finds a smartphone if the wearer and his smartphone companion suddenly part ways. While the apps work best when using a smartphone and the Gear Fit app, the fitness tracker also provides the ability to play music through a compatible Spotify. The most impressive thing here is the Gear Fit 2 Pro's ability to store music, allowing you to listen to music on the go without having to lug your phone around. It is worth clarifying right away that not all available applications are free, as some require a subscription to a premium package (Spotify) for full-functional use.

Users of the new tracker are guaranteed access to the full range of notifications. Facebook and Twitter news, text messages, phone calls and other updates. You can also set up custom quick replies, or choose from pre-loaded ones on your device. The level of notifications on par with a smartwatch is one of the main advantages of the Samsung Gear Fit 2 Pro. It's still (technically) a smart fitness tracker that fans of full-fledged smartwatches might be interested in as well. Responses are limited to calls and texts. However, notifications from apps like Twitter or Instagram are also displayed, allowing you to quickly press a button to open the app on your synced smartphone. The ability to quickly access app notifications without having to use your phone makes the tracker more advanced than most competitors.

Samsung Gear Fit 2 Battery

The original Gear Fit 2 had great battery life, and the Gear Fit2 Pro is just as good. The battery life is still a full three days with an average level of use of all functions. Even if you don't use the Workout Recognition feature, from time to time it automatically kicks in as soon as you start moving. It is possible to adjust this point in the settings if you want to save battery life.

On the other hand, if you use each function and exercise frequently with GPS, the continuous operation time in this mode will be approximately 10 hours. The Gear Fit 2 Pro comes with a charger, although it does not include a power adapter for fast charging. Connected to USB port 3.0 gadget will take about 90 minutes to fully charge. But if you have Charger For Samsung phone, then charging will be faster and take about an hour.

Gear Fit 2 Pro competitors

At $200, the Gear Fit 2 Pro's closest competitor is an impressive fitness tracker that's highly durable and supports the Fitbit ecosystem. While the Fitbit Blaze is similar in many ways to the Gear Fit2 Pro, it boasts a better sleep tracking feature that draws patterns of sleep phases throughout the night, which many find incredibly useful. Gear Fit2 Pro's advantage over Blaze is more stylish and compact design. That's not to say the Blaze isn't comfortable, but the Samsung tracker just sits more comfortably on the wrist.

Premium alternatives like the Apple Watch 3, Garmin Fenix 5X, and Ionic Fitbit outperform the Gear Fit2 Pro in many ways, but also cost several times more. It's also worth noting that each of the gadgets listed are smartwatches, while the Gear Fit2 Pro is still considered just a fitness tracker.

Fitness tracking Gear Fit2 Pro

  • Can automatically track workouts
  • More swimming options with Water Lock
  • Suitable for fitness enthusiasts and light workouts

The tracker's capabilities work well with both intense fitness groups and more passive sports, allowing users the ability to manually initiate exercises, set goals, and tinker with the analysis of presented metrics. Or, you can just let the software automatically detect your activity. Whether you prefer to be in control of your tracker or put it on autopilot, the Gear Fit 2 Pro makes Good work to track and display your statistics in a user friendly interface. If you show good results, you get rewards for it, which is always nice.

When it comes to customizing the interface, this gadget makes personalization much easier. Here you can take care of counting calories, checking your heart rate and controlling the amount of water you drink per day. Of course, there are more options for customization, with some of the preinstalled apps like UA Record offering their own idea of your fitness. You can always get more detailed metrics on your phone, but this device's compact color display also does a great job of navigating.

It is also worth noting the encouragement and assistance mode in Gear Fit 2 Pro. Auto-tracking while walking will vibrate gently after every ten minutes of prolonged activity, and if you pause to catch your breath, Samsung will automatically stop tracking, restarting it when the activity starts. This is extremely useful if recording every second of your workout is critical. The built-in GPS module, unlike some competing devices, detects the signal almost immediately, displaying your route on colorful maps on the screen. Some fitness apps require additional downloads on your phone, and Pro's increased water resistance can come in handy in the pool. Pre installed application Speedo On is quite simple to use, yet makes it easy to keep track of your swims. Water lock function disables touch panel, thereby blocking the screen from being turned on by the force of water. To turn it off, you need to press and hold the main button for three seconds. The main goal of the Samsung Gear Fit 2 Pro is to make users' workouts easy and fun, even if they are in the pool. By and large, the tracker succeeds in this, for the most part surpassing its predecessor.

The heart rate monitor in the Fit2 Pro has the same issues as its predecessor. When running at a steady pace, he manages to show accurate results, but if you sharply increase the pace, the results can be off by as much as 10 beats per minute. The same is observed if you sharply reduce the pace of training. Of course, the optical readings of any tracker should not be taken too seriously. For regular runners, the Fit2 Pro will suffice, but interval training will require a more serious device. The advantages include a good and accurate GPS module, which finds satellites very quickly. The module will start automatically when you start your run. Swim tracking happens with the Speedo On app, which measures length, distance, time and SWOLF performance scores. The accuracy may deviate slightly from the actual performance, although Samsung promised to fix this with the next updates. software. Competitors Apple Watch Series 3 and Fitbit Ionic show better accuracy in the pool.

As far as sleep tracking goes, the Gear Fit2 Pro isn't going to beat the Fitbit Alta HR, or the Huawei Band 2 Pro. You get good metrics including "actual" sleep time and how effective it is in percentage terms. The tracker also calculates the calories burned during sleep. When monitoring sleep, Samsung relies only on motion data, which is not the most effective indicator. Fitbit is better in this regard, because it also relies on heart rate. There is one interesting feature: when you sleep, the tracker's bright display sometimes turns on. It's not a huge problem, but you will definitely notice that the wrist has turned into a beacon on a dark night. You can also self-assess sleep, helping Samsung and its algorithms do their job better.

Other metrics track coffee and water consumed. When you drink a cup of coffee, you press the small plus and count it. When you drink a cup of water, you do the same. If you accidentally add too much water or coffee, there is a minus button. Looking back at the Fit 2, many of this fitness tracker's problems have been carried over to the new device. The main differences are that the Fit2 Pro has a number of new preinstalled applications, more durable and waterproof. It's great for people who want to swim, but when it comes to everything else, it's not much of an upgrade. The Gear Fit2 Pro is an improvement over the Fit2, but not a huge one. The strengths of the Fit2 are still the strengths of the Pro. weak sides The Fit2 are still the weak points of the Pro. There are only two exceptions: Spotify offline playback and swimming. If none of these things interest you, the Fit 2 might be a better and more affordable option. Without a doubt, this is one of the
