Greetings! The article is dedicated to the upcoming New Year holidays, and at any other time, I think the information will be quite relevant and useful. Why did this instruction appear at all? The thing is that now there are just a lot of offers on the market for selling an iPhone with a non-working Apple ID fingerprint sensor. No, seriously, not only the entire Internet is littered with such devices, but also numerous “real” points of sale.

And the best thing about this whole situation is the price. Oh yeah! Here everything is very good. Indeed, for such, at first glance, seemingly minor malfunction (and a non-functioning scanner is a breakdown), a rather large discount is offered on the iPhone itself. Why not take it? Let's figure out together why you don't need to take ...

What is usually sold:

  1. iPhone (any model) with a non-functioning fingerprint scanner.
  2. The price for it is less (sometimes significantly) than for a similar product with only a functioning sensor.
  3. The seller assures that this is a new and absolutely normal iPhone - it's just refurbished (REF).

And because of the third point, confusion begins, because many have heard that Apple is releasing refurbished devices on the market. And this is true, only they have nothing to do with an iPhone with a broken finger sensor ...

iPhone without Touch ID - officially restored device or not?

No no and one more time no. Officially refurbished iPhones, referred to as "like new", are fully functional devices. Everything works for them - from the battery to the notorious fingerprint sensor. They are produced at the Apple factory, tested, have a one-year warranty (and it is two years) and are supplied through official sales channels to dealers for sale. In general, they are all OK. I already wrote about such devices - in the comments there are a lot of interesting things directly on the topic of this article.

Important! On a new original, real, factory (call it what you want) iPhone, the fingerprint sensor will always work. Always. If during the sale it is indicated that the device is new and from the factory, but the scanner does not work for it, they are lying to you.

But the iPhone without Touch ID (also supposedly officially restored) is a completely different story. Where, and most importantly, from what are they collected? It is very difficult to find out specifically and for certain, but in in general terms I'll tell you now.

iPhone with a broken scanner - what is it and where does it come from?

So, we have found out that such devices are not produced by Apple, so where do they come from? Everything is very simple, these are ordinary used gadgets, only assembled from several devices. So to speak, "restored" by various craftsmen. A little more detail, with an example:

You have several iPhones with different breakdowns - the display does not work on one, the second is completely flooded with water, the third is fine, “only” motherboard broke down. You take all three, combine them, buy spare parts from the Chinese - here you have a “refurbished” iPhone.

It is clear that there are options, but in general terms it looks like this.

And why don't these iPhones have a fingerprint scanner that it's hard for the Chinese to fix something? Yes, it is difficult, and this is due to this:

The motherboard and the Home button (where the sensor is located) for one particular iPhone (official, leaving the factory) is a single whole. If you substitute a button from another phone, the sensor stops working. This is done so that no one can hack your iPhone simply by connecting another button to it. Safety and protection above all!

“Break” this bundle can only be at the Apple factory, which they do in the production of officially restored iPhones - where, I repeat, absolutely everything works.

Pros and cons of an iPhone with a broken Touch ID - can I buy it?

If you have not yet decided whether or not to buy such a device, then here is a list of the positive and negative aspects of such an event. Let's start with the cons. So, if the scanner does not work, then this means:

  • That the iPhone was exactly understood is unknown by whom and how.
  • It is also assembled from an incomprehensible source - spare parts can be both original and "Chinese".
  • Considering the two previous points, even if everything works in it now (except for the sensor), it is still a time bomb - any component of such an iPhone can fail and stop working at any time.
  • Inability to use Apple services tied on a fingerprint (same Apple Pay). And in general, the security of your personal data is under great threat.

Are there any pluses? Yes, there are two of them:

  • Price - the cost of an iPhone with a defective scanner is always less (otherwise who will buy them?).
  • You may be lucky and get a good device (rather no than yes).

I hope everyone should now have the right opinion about the advisability of buying an iPhone with a non-working Touch ID sensor. If it didn’t work out, then I’ll tell you: buying such a device is a very big lottery with a minimal chance of winning, but with a huge opportunity to just throw money away.

Updated! As I wrote buying an iPhone without Touch ID, it's a big lottery. In my opinion, there is no point in playing it. Moreover, when buying a normal iPhone, you can save money. How? Instruction:

  1. Among the stores you know, we find the one where the price of the iPhone is cheaper, and the return Money for the purchase - more.
  2. Victory.

That's all - enjoy the phone and save money.

P.S. Agree that the information is useful - put a "like" on the article, do a good deed :) And of course, write your questions in the comments. I will answer everyone!

A new feature from the iPhone 5s called Touch ID has caused a lot of buzz around Apple fans and their devices. However, now there are restrictions between users, because only the owners of the latest iPhone 5s can use the fingerprint scanner, while other users are forced to continue using the standard lock button. To date, the use of a fingerprint sensor is available only for Apple. The principles of the company so far are formed in this way: they do not want to this moment give access to new system security, as this can destroy the whole idea. You can now use Touch ID to unlock your device, sign in, and make purchases at two iTunes Stores and App Store.

Today, one of the developers of jailbreak tweaks came up with a novelty that will amuse some users and make an imitation of a fingerprint scanner on any iPhone. All you need is an iPhone running iOS 7 and a jailbreak installed using Evasi0n.

How to doTouchIDon anyiPhoneAndiPad:

  1. Go to the General Settings of the device, then go to the Password protection item and set it. This is a mandatory operation that will be required for correct operation tweak.
  2. Make sure you have a jailbreak, if it is not on your iPhone or iPad, then you definitely need to do it.
  3. Open Cydia, download a free tweak called Activator. If you do not want to search for it among the repository, then simply enter the name of the tweak in the Search tab.
  4. After installing the tweak, click on the Respring button and open Cydia again. Now download and install the tweak called ByPass.
  5. Close Cydia and go back to settings. Now the Activator tweak tab will appear there.
  6. Open the section "On the lock screen", then the tab "Home button" and fall into the item Short hold.
  7. Check the box next to ByPass

This completes the procedure. Now try to lock and unlock your device. When unlocking, a window with a password will appear in front of you. However, if you hold down one quarter of a second home button, the device will automatically unlock. As a result, we got such a funny and someone convenient function. We hope you enjoy this idea.

The appearance of any new feature V Apple devices(and not only) causes a wave of discussions, disputes, criticism. This fate did not bypass the fingerprint scanner built into the iPhone 5s and called Touch ID.

The Canadian newspaper Toronto Star appeared, entitled "The fingerprint scanner in the iPhone 5s: 10 reasons it's a bad idea." The title of the article speaks for itself. But let's try to figure out if Touch ID really deserves criticism - let's take the arguments of the author of the Toronto Star and take a closer look at them.

1. There is a video of a cat unlocking an iPhone. How soon will the hackers get to the scanner?

Well, yes, such a video exists. Moreover, there are more than one hundred similar videos where Touch ID is unlocked using various parts of the body (including intimate ones), but what does this mean? Only that the scanner is able to read fingerprints not only from fingers. This is bad? No. Less secure? Also no. Your cat will only be able to unlock your iPhone if you have added its paw print to the trusted list. Well, of course, hypothetically, it can be assumed that the attackers, having stolen your iPhone, will also take your cat to unlock the device with it ... Sounds stupid, doesn't it?

Well, as for hackers, they have already got to the scanner, but the methods of deceiving Touch ID are still far from commonly used.

2. If Apple did something wrong, it would set the biometrics industry back years.

What does "do something wrong" mean? And why should it have such a major impact on an industry that developed before Touch ID, and will continue to do so, even if it turns out Apple did something wrong.

3. Touch ID is the solution to a problem that doesn't exist

Here the author of the article asks a painfully familiar question from forum battles - why should people buy an iPhone 5s, pay a lot of money for it, if they are satisfied with the iPhone 5. As in the forums, it is very difficult to answer such a question. Or it’s very simple: the old model suits - well, don’t buy a new one.

4. Apple uses fear to promote this product

Well, it's actually funny. Fear of what? Before a possible theft of the device? Before possible access to sensitive data? But Touch ID does not have any extra protection, it just makes user identification more convenient compared to the usual password entry.

5. Wet and dirty fingers adversely affect sensor performance, causing errors

Strong argument. And also - wet and dirty fingers do not work well with touch screen. So they just need to be washed and dried.

6. Your fingerprints will be stored somewhere in the smartphone, and someone will be able to use them.

First of all, Touch ID stores its data in a completely separate place designed specifically for this storage. And only the result of the form “ID verification successful / unsuccessful” is transmitted to the rest of the hardware of the smartphone. And it is impossible to intercept this data from the side in any way.

Further. iPhone does not store fingerprints. When adding a fingerprint, the finger is scanned and converted into a set of data, which is stored in the smartphone. Then, during identification, the finger is scanned again, another set of data is obtained, which is compared with the first. If the data matches, the user is identified. At the same time, these data sets are specific to the iPhone, using them elsewhere (even assuming that they can somehow be stolen) simply does not make sense.

The kidnapper will receive gibberish, which will be as "easy" to convert back into a fingerprint as it is to recreate from a half-eaten cake, and even broken into small pieces, the original culinary masterpiece with all the decorations and cream inscriptions. Such a comparison was made by a specialist familiar with this issue.

7. This is complex software, which can lead to problems

The author means that the software less resistant to hacker attacks. What is the answer to this? iPhone 5s is not the only one in the world electronic device with complex software. And nothing, others somehow live, cope ...

8. This is only for part of the market. Most people don't care about security.

Well, don't worry yourself. No one is forcing anyone to use Touch ID, just as no one is forcing anyone to use a password. But since the authentication procedure with a scanner is much simpler than with a password, then, perhaps, one of those who have not thought about security before will still use Touch ID?

9. Possible technical problems with the new product

Yes, it happens. But so far, no problems have been noticed, moreover, users report that Touch ID "just works" and works fine. And if we proceed from the logic that each new product may face technical problems, and therefore it is bad - then it’s better not to release new products in general, isn’t it?

10. People will use Touch ID on initial stage, but then they will refuse, because due to sensor wear, identification will occur with a delay

Will there be a delay? Can anyone confirm this with certainty? Now there is no delay, the device works quickly and does not cause problems.

And as a result. Once again, no one is forcing you to use Touch ID without fail. The sensor simplifies identification - and that's it, this is not a panacea for all ills, but not their source either. Whoever wants to, he will use it, the rest will simply use the smartphone in the usual way for previous models.

The Touch ID fingerprint scanner has become one of the top three features of the iPhone 5s. At the moment, a technically very complex device is used in a smartphone for two actions: unlocking the phone and authorizing purchases in the App Store and iTunes Store online stores.

It would seem that the use of Touch ID in other applications and services suggests itself, but so far this will not happen. Apple refused to give developers the opportunity to work with a biometric sensor, and did not comment on this decision.

The fingerprint module is now only available for flagship smartphone Apple. However, any iPhone and iPad user who decides to jailbreak can easily replicate the capabilities of Touch ID. In particular, the option to skip the password-protected lock screen.

How to mimic a Touch ID fingerprint scanner on any iPhone and iPad:

Step 1: Go to Settings –> General –> Password Protection if you have iOS 7.0.4, and Settings –> Password Protection if you have iOS 7.1 and above. Set a password to unlock your device.

Step 2: Jailbreak using the Evasi0n 7 utility. Instructions for working with the application can be found on our website for Windows and Mac OS X.

Step 3: Go to Cydia and download the free tweak Activator. You can use the search (Search tab).

Step 4: After respring, open Cydia again and find the ByPass tweak, install it.

Step 5: Go to Settings –> Activator menu.

Step 6: Go to the "On the lock screen" section, find the "Home button" section and go to the "Short hold" menu.

Step 7: Check the box next to ByPass.

This is all. Now lock your iOS device. When you try to unlock the gadget, the standard password entry screen will appear. But, if you press and hold the Home button for a short time, the device will skip the lockscreen and immediately open the working iPhone desk or iPad. You don't even need to turn on the device's screen beforehand - just touch the button right away. The Touch ID scanner works the same way.

If you have already acquired new iPhone 5s, you probably know that one of the main technical differences of this device from previous models is the biometric sensor built into the Home button, in other words.

In this article, we will briefly talk about how to activate the fingerprint unlock feature on your smartphone.

By the way, the fingerprint scanner in the iPhone 5s, ie. Touch ID technology, in accordance with the manufacturer's terminology, is considered one of the most useful "chips" presented during the existence of Apple smartphones.

And although Touch ID in its current form has a number of limitations, the fact remains that Apple is once again raising the technological standard of modern smartphones.

But today is not about that. So, how to set up touch id iPhone smartphone 5s? In fact, everything is simple:

1. Go to Settings and select General

3. Click the Fingerprints tab.

4. Click the My thumb tab.

5. In the “Place Your Finger” window that opens, we read the instructions and act. You won't have to work much. All you need to do is put your finger (any of your choice) several times on the Home button at different angles. The scanner reads the fingerprint in real time, the corresponding image will appear on the screen. You will need to move your finger until the fingerprint scanning procedure is completed. By the way, a clean and dry finger should be provided to the smartphone for scanning, otherwise the scanner may not work.

To the point:

6. The smartphone will notify you separately about the successful completion of the scan:

7. To check the validity of the biometric password, just return to the previous screen and put your finger on the Home button. Next, you should block by pressing the button and then with the finger whose fingerprint was scanned, press the Home button. Your iPhone 5S will unlock instantly.

The Touch ID system in the iPhone 5S provides for the use of more than one fingerprint to unlock the smartphone. To add another fingerprint password, do the following: :

1. Go to Settings and select General.

2. Go to Passcode & Fingerprints.

3. Fingerprints tab.

4. Click on the "Add a fingerprint" tab and then repeat steps 5-7 of the previous section.
