Ogma Infinium - domestic translation

An alphabet of unknown “magic symbols” leaked into the network in the distant Skyrim-nerd years:

On this moment I don’t remember where the alphabet came from on the Internet. But at some point in time I discovered it and decided to repeat what someone did with the Mysterium of Zarx from Oblivion - I decided to translate Ogma Infinium and all the works of Shalidor.

If anyone is interested in chatter, read the spoiler:

Hidden text

First, all the pages of Shalidor's works were translated, but it is unlikely that much interesting information can be found there. At the moment, all images with old translations have disappeared, as well as the photo hosting through which the pictures were uploaded to one of the forums. Today I couldn't even find Ogma Infinium in normal resolution. I only have a text translation of all the pages of Shalidor’s works, without a clear example. If someone has not yet seen translations of Shalidor’s works and you are really interested, write about it in the comments and I will send you the link.

Having translated the first page of Ogma Infinium, I learned that the translation into English language appeared on the TIL website several months before I even found the alphabet. And yet, I received a feeling of great satisfaction from the work done and made at least two discoveries for myself; I’ll tell you more later.

For others, I suggest you read the notorious translation right away:

The text is divided into parts for convenience:

Transliteration into English characters provided by the alphabet:

1)"no centro deste iceberg entre tanto um grande dwarve lockbox septime e scul psi u uma caverna no iceberg para que um lado do lockbox essential mente"

2) "o iceberg wo i criado em volta do lockbox por alg uma pessoa desconte cida dentro da pouca cente nal pima de a nos esta pessoa enco trou o ogma infinum mento da mal da de esel longe na banda lockbox iceberg para que o"

3) "Ele no ore cida deer um grande e do at o mad let er at er um lug a rent real"

The translator turned out to be a quiet horror, anyone who wants can see it for themselves. I will only write what happened when understanding the translation...

1) "In the center of this iceberg is a large gnome safe, inside there is a passage to a seven-foot cave where powerful knowledge is hidden"

2) “An iceberg was created around the safe, far from the cities of people and mer. Ogma Infinium, which is inside, reveals knowledge, and therefore was safely hidden from evil inside the safe in the iceberg.”

3) “Those who are nearby, from era to era, become insane, this is the real price”

A few more, perhaps not interesting thoughts.

Hidden text

Actually, the text in Ogma Infinium describes to us the plot of the quest to obtain it in Skyrim. If anyone doesn’t remember, the Oghma Infinium was located in a huge Dwemer safe, which in turn was located inside an even larger Iceberg. The safe was tried to be opened by Septimius, a former wizard of the College of Winterhold, who had gone crazy, apparently, looking for an answer to how to open this safe.

By the way, during the passage of this quest we receive indisputable proof that the Orsimers and Falmers are elves. During the quest it was necessary to collect the blood of all elves, in particular we collected blood from Orcs and Falmers.

As for the second page:

Hidden text

After I found out that there had been a translation on TIL for a long time, I gave up translating the second page. But he made his first interesting discovery. The TIL-e translator made a mistake because he translated the text in the wrong sequence. Either there was a translation of the upper and lower parts, or the text was translated according to the radii of the circles. However, if you study the text, you can clearly see that the text runs in a spiral from the center to the top turn, and the number of lines at the bottom and top is different, which is already suggestive. The text, however, was translated in the correct sequence (or maybe not) on the ESN website, where we actively discussed it together with the translator and other forum participants. If the translation is interesting, you can find it yourself on the ESN forum. Or write in the comments and I will look for a link for you.

However, all this has not interested me at all for a long time; the most interesting, in my opinion, is not in the text of Ogma Infinium, but on the diagram of the first page. The scheme almost exactly copies the plan of the Imperial City.
The “top view” of the Imperial City was rotated in different ways so that it fit as succinctly as possible into the diagram from Ogma, but nothing needed to be rotated. The key to the correct position, in my opinion, lies in the translation of the symbols on this diagram.

Translation of symbols on the diagram:

A common comment in the discussions was that it looked like a map of the sky with possible planets, moons, and stars. The letters M and S were given different meaning, such as Masser and Secunda. But I was somehow confused by the third variable; all the options were somehow indistinct and very vague.
But one of the assumptions turned out to be quite simple and obvious.

Based on the fact that when reading the book we choose one of three paths - the Path of the Warrior, the Path of the Mage and the Path of the Shadow - it turns out the following:

"M" - Magia, Magic (Magic),

"S" - Strength (C)

"G" - Ghost (Shadow).

And now even more interesting information, again for me personally. The place where Magic is located ("M" - Magic) on the diagram from Ogma corresponds to the location of the University of Mysteries in the Imperial City. The location of the Strength (“S” - Strength) corresponds to the location of the Imperial Legion Barracks. But there was no place for Shadows (“G” – Ghost) in the Imperial City, as if they decided to kick her out of the city, drawing a line, we find ourselves in a tavern, in which, in 3E 433, the hostess paid well for searching for the Shadowbane wine. A truly mystical coincidence, so amazing that it’s hard to believe in chance.

Correlation of the IG with the scheme from the IG:

I personally have never discovered anything more interesting in the games in the series, or indeed in any other games. But only one question remained, why the sacred White Gold Tower is essentially not designated in any way in Ogma Infinium. For myself, I found a simple answer: if you study the in-game history well, then you will understand that the Ayleids first built the White Gold Tower, and after that a city began to appear, possibly being completed during the reign of people. And just like that, the city was built according to the scheme written in the book of Kzarx (Kzarx is a god, the chronicler of Auriel, and is the author of Ogma Infinium). The White Gold Tower, apparently, was not by chance at the center of Kzarx’s scheme; perhaps it only strengthened the mystical significance of the Imperial City, which is rightfully the sacred center of Tamriel, and perhaps all of Nirn.

The case of my flash drive fell apart, and then I wondered what could be done with it, and that’s what I came up with - Ogma Infinium!

I didn’t take photos of the initial stage, because... I wasn’t going to post this work here, so I’ll describe it...

To begin with, 2 rectangles are made from polymer clay with the corresponding proportions of Ogma Infinium from the game.

Next, again, comparable to the original from the game, we measure the thickness of the product. We connect both parts using polymer clay (Where the spine of the book will be located can be covered with clay exactly to the edge, on the other sides, where the texture of the pages will be, you should step back from the edge about 4mm, because you will still need to make these same pages. Also not You should remember that there will be a flash drive inside, and you need to leave a cavity for it).

After baking, we add the texture of the book spine, and if your hands are crooked, then I advise you to bake again)

At the next stage, we add the texture of the pages, simply stick clay into the recesses and use a paper knife to make grooves imitating pages. I made the pages on the side opposite the spine arched inward, like most old “ready” books.

After this baking, using a sharp and thin cutter, cut the “book” into 2 parts, according to the texture pattern. As a result, we get the following:

Crafting Ogma Infinum +2GB to memory O_O

Next we need to make “threads”, for this we roll thin “sausages” out of polymer clay and, using a needle and a mat (where would we be without it...) stick them in the places where we left the indentations. As a result, we get an almost finished body:

Next, we take a magnet, I used magnets from the refrigerator (which I’ve had lying around for 10 years without use) and with the help of an engraver (if you don’t have one, then a file, sandpaper and, again, the irreplaceable Russian mat will help...) we cut out 4 rectangles as wide as the inner width of the walls and, using superglue, glue them parallel to the cover (upper part) and body (respectively, lower part) of the flash drive so that they touch. We cut the places where we glue them with a cutter.

First we wrap the flash drive microcircuit with tape, and after kneading both parts of the paste until smooth, install the flash drive into the case.

After the epoxylin has hardened, we will work on the lid; we need to leave only a rectangular hole in it for the USB output. Here you can use either polymer clay or epoxyline, but I recommend clay because... it can be trimmed.

That's it, all that's left to do is paint and varnish! The result is such a wonderful flash drive!

Gives the task: Septimius Segonius
Location: Septimius Segonius Post, Alftand, Black Reach
Side Quest: Ancient Knowledge
Reward: Ogma Infinium (+5 to all warrior/thief/mage skills), Ancient Scroll (needed to complete the main storyline).
ID: DA04

We go to the location “Post of Septimius Segonius”:

We go down and talk to Septimius:

Let's learn about the Ancient Scroll. He asks us to fill out the Dwemer dictionary, in return for which he will tell us the location of the scroll.

n directs us to Alftand.

At first, you may have difficulty finding the entrance to the dungeon.

The entrance is below, under the snow. It is highlighted with a marker. There is a bridge leading to the entrance, I think you should notice it.

Alftand itself is divided into three main locations.

Toward the end of the dungeon, a Dwemer Centurion will be waiting for you.

Don't forget to take the key from it.

After the centurion, we will see a scene in which two people cannot leave the ruins for fear of being stabbed in the back.

We help them figure it out (We kill them so they don’t get in the way).

What's interesting is that both have unique things:

At least, I have not seen such things anywhere. If you found Tarch of Bloodthirst somewhere else, write about it in the comments.

We activate the Dwemer mechanism that serves as a lock.

We go down the stairs that appear to the Black Limit.

In the house opposite the entrance, you can take the Scarlet Root of Nirn, which activates the task “Return to the Roots”

We follow the marker to the “Mzrak Tower”. Unfortunately, Black Reach is too big a location and I can’t show you the way.

We go into the Mzrak Tower, go in a straight line, we find ourselves in a room similar to the Oculatory.

We go up to the “control panel”

Now we need to fill the dictionary.

First, place the Dictionary on the stand:

We have two right buttons open.

Click on them until the dictionary starts to glow:

Then the third button opens:

We press it all the way. Same with the next button.

After this procedure, the dictionary will be filled and turn blue:

Video

Because This moment causes difficulties for many, we decided to record a video:

Don't forget to pick it up from the stand.

Also, don’t forget the Ancient Scroll, which we need for the main storyline.

The exit from the tower is located directly under the “control panel”.

After we rise to the surface, do not forget to activate the lever that opens the door to the elevator.

We go back to Septimius, give him the dictionary.

He asks us to collect elf blood.

We need blood: Orc, Bosmer, Dunmer, Altmer and Falmer.

At the exit from Septimius's den, the Daedric prince will be waiting for us.

It doesn't matter what you answer, so don't bother.

So, an orc can be found in any orc village, but there they are questing and strong.

The Riverwood Archer is a Bosmer. There are a lot of Dunmer in Winterhold, but for each of them you can get a huge fine.

Therefore, we go to the location “Camp of Clean Springs”.

There we will find the High Elf. It is located at the end of the dungeon, on the spikes.

In the dungeon itself, we will most likely meet Orcs and Bosmers, and also, with some probability, Dunmers. In my case, there were representatives of all these species.

To collect blood, you need to press E and select “Collect Blood”

(If you didn't find them there, you can always kill someone from the city)

Falmers can be found in the Liar's Refuge location:

As soon as we have collected the blood of all creatures, we go back to Septimius.

We talk to him, after which he opens the door to the cube.

Attention! After Septimius ran inside the cube and approached the pedestal, he must die (the Daedric prince must kill Septimius). But for some reason he remains standing. Don't be afraid and kill him.

Be careful not to take quest items from Septimius’s corpse, which you can’t throw away later.

After the death of Septimius, we take the book and go to the exit.

The Daedra will meet us again, but he won’t tell us anything useful.

P.S.

They say you can return to Alftand, where there are the corpses of Orc, Bosmer, Dunmer, Almer and Falmer, lying in order, and if you return there immediately, then there will be no enemies there.

Ogma Infinium is used when reading. You can choose one of three paths, or you can postpone it “for later.” These are the three ways:

  • Path of Power +5 to all skills (Blacksmith, Block, Archer, One-Handed, Two-Handed, Heavy Armor)
  • Path of Shadow +5 to all skills (Lockpick, Light Armor, Stealth, Theft, Speech, Alchemy)
  • Path of Magic +5 to all skills (Illusion, Conjuration, Destruction, Restoration, Enchantment, Alteration)

Gives the task: Septimius Segonius
