I made this iPhone stand to be compatible with my iPhone 5C, so I used a 1/2" drill bit as well as a 5/8" router bit.

Step 2: Selecting wood
I took this piece of slab because it had color variations from light wood to black. It was a great candidate for an iPhone stand because the bottom was completely flat. Step 3: Cut to size

In order to fit the iPhone 5C into the iPhone stand, you need to use a 5/8-inch cutter, which is even larger than what is needed for my phone (+ cover). I only routed about an inch deep. The length of the cut is entirely up to you. Since the width of the cut will be whatever the phone is holding, the length can either be just a little longer than your phone, or the entire length of the iPhone stand. I cut the length to just over 3 inches.
Step 5: Color the iPhone Stand
