In no way do I want to offend the improved generation of Samsung Galaxy - Tab 2 (10.1), it really is just lovely in feathers. This tablet “hatched” and was released almost simultaneously with and many expected that Samsung would again chase something stunning, do some kind of bells and whistles in order to be one step ahead of its competitor... but, obviously, the company changed its tactics regarding this tablet. And rightly so!

Individual appearance

The new product is not a device with flagship characteristics. Samsung decided not to release something super top-end, the goal is the middle price segment of the market. Therefore, in the Tab 2 (10.1) you will not find any revolutionary technologies: a screen with a huge resolution, an advanced graphics chip, a high-quality camera, etc. But you will be pleased with the price - $400, and at the same time, the Tab 2 is still a high-quality, stylish, modern device.

The tablet has finally received its own individual design and now even in the dark it cannot be confused with the apple family! Stylish silver body (by the way, there is also a white version), speaker grilles on the front side, display frame - all these elements are dynamically combined. It is clear that the designers sweated a little to still achieve distinction. The second “tab” looks original, although we see a similar design on the Samsng Galaxy Note.

The body is made of matte plastic, whereas the previous generation had gloss. Dimensions tab 2 - 256x175x8.6 mm. The parts fit well, there are no gaps, the tablet is comfortable and pleasant to hold in your hands (although I don’t really like holding it in a vertical position due to its oblong shape), the weight is more than 0.5 kg.

On the front panel there is a front VGA camera and a light sensor. The latter reacts quickly and adjusts the brightness of the screen backlight. There is also a rear, three-megapixel camera (without flash and autofocus, which, I think, is sad). Both cameras are not anything outstanding; they can only be used for video calls, and the photos they take are very mediocre.

On the top edge there are power and volume buttons, a headset jack, slots for microSD and SimKI cards. By the way, the slot for a SIM card is ordinary, not the now fashionable microSIM. This is not to say that the layout of the slots and buttons is very good and intuitive, especially the headphone jack. Although, of course, you can get used to it. There are speakers on the sides of the screen, which produce a fairly loud and clear sound, everything can be heard very clearly at a distance of up to two meters. They are located far from each other, so the stereo effect is well expressed. Not bad for a tablet - you can watch movies and play games without headphones. Headphone volume is also good.

The 10-inch model has a TFT screen with the usual resolution for such a diagonal 1280×800 (150 pixels per inch), displays 16 million colors, matrix type – PLS-LCD (one of the types of IPS matrices – Plane to Line Switching). There are good viewing angles and brightness here. The range of brightness adjustment is wide: you can, for example, set it to very low, at which it is comfortable to read a book at night. But I still want to sharpen the picture a little and make it more contrasting. And in the sun, the screen goes blind and generally turns into a mirror (useful for girls!). Sensor type – capacitive with support for up to 10 simultaneous touches. I was pleased with the sensitivity.

The only thing included with the tablet is a charger - a USB cable + an adapter for a power outlet.

Galactic interior

In terms of hardware, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1) has not received a significant upgrade. Manufacturers did not chase the cosmic number of processor cores and use the newfangled Nvidia Tegra 3 chip. They took the TI OMAP 4430 as the basis. And rightly so, because apart from high temperatures you can’t expect much from the Tegra. The new product has 2 cores of 1 GHz. This is enough for comfortable work and at the same time does not drain the battery unnecessarily. But the video adapter is still quite outdated - the PowerVR SGX540 chip. RAM is 1 GB, and the built-in memory is either 16 or 32 GB (16 in the one provided for our test).

Operating system – “sandwich with android”, version 4.0.3. Traditionally, all navigation is arranged through “soft” keys; the only hard buttons are power and volume controls. All the basic aspects of this version of Android are in place; there are few improvements from Samsung. The shell design uses the proprietary TouchWiz. The new version is almost no different from the old one and works quite well, although at times it traditionally slows down, but this is no longer new.

Battery – 7000 mAh. The charge lasts up to 6 hours. Wireless interfaces include Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth, 3G and voice communication on the GSM network. Tab 2 is equipped with a GPS navigator. Its characteristics are the same as those of most “tablets”.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1) has a whole arsenal of useful programs. There are not enough fingers to list. The device, as already mentioned, has the Touch Wiz add-on pre-installed, a file manager, a note-taking program, a chat, a task planner S Planner (a calendar with various options for displaying and planning upcoming events, very convenient, beautiful), a Polaris Office package for working with documents , convenient video and photo editors. And a lot of ordinary things. There are also several applications from Yandex - Market, Weather and Movie Poster.

The Tab 2 (10.1) has its own trump cards that persuade buyers to buy it instead of an iPad. Galaxy supports Flash. For many users, it is of great importance that when going online, all pages open correctly, and, as you know, Steve Jobs himself noted that Flash is not reliable, reduces performance, and does not support touch controls well. Therefore, “apples” are not adapted to it. On the other hand, Adobe themselves recently announced that they would stop supporting mobile platforms, so this advantage will not last long.

I think Samsung has once again made a good tablet. It doesn't have any interesting features, but it doesn't lag behind its competitors. For its price, this device offers good functionality. If the main purpose of the Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1) is surfing the Internet, working with notes, video chats and other boring, run-of-the-mill work routines, then this device will pleasantly surprise you with its level of autonomy and ease of use.

All the best, drink milk, be a keddrYachk!

As we all know, the line of mobile devices from Samsung has dozens of models. This includes, for example, both smartphones and tablets developed in the Galaxy class.

The device discussed in this article also falls into this category, as evidenced by its name. We'll talk about the Tab 2, a seven-inch tablet released back in 2012 that was once one of the most powerful devices in the line. The article will provide characteristics of the device, a description of some of its modules, as well as customer reviews.

General information

Today the device, of course, is outdated - you can judge this at least from the technical description of the device. If at the time of its release the tablet could be called a fairly strong player on the market (due to its high-quality build and fairly advanced equipment), now even in the budget price class there are sometimes more powerful versions available. Nevertheless, this is the peculiarity of the device - at the time of its release it was in demand and had current technical parameters. In addition to them, we can note the ergonomic, stylish design and high-quality materials from which the model’s body is assembled. And all this - for 15 thousand rubles in the version without a 3G module and for 20 thousand - with one.

However, let's start talking about everything in more detail so that you can understand why this device is so good.

Equipment

The device is presented from the moment of purchase in the most classic set. This includes the tablet itself and the charger, which consists of two parts - a USB cord and an adapter for connecting it to the power supply. There is no film on the tablet screen, but there is one on the adapter. The equipment is meager when compared with Chinese devices, but quite familiar for such well-known companies as Samsung.

Design

Externally, perhaps, the Tab 2 is not much different from some modern devices. This is gray plastic, painted to look like metal, smoothed edges, no right angles. For Samsung, this design at one time formed the basis for further models - just when the company abandoned the “proven” (at that time) copying of Apple devices. Thus, we can say that this is one of the earliest design solutions from the Korean holding. However, due to its prevalence, this appearance certainly cannot be called unique.

Due to the smooth edges, holding the tablet is quite comfortable. Judging by the placement of the logo on the front bottom of the device, the manufacturer expects to work in a vertical variation, classic for 7-inch tablets.

On the right side of the case there is all the navigation - these are the volume control buttons and the key for unlocking the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 screen.

The opposite, left side of the device has holes for a memory card, which allows you to significantly expand the capacity of the device, as well as for a SIM card (if we are talking about a version of the tablet that supports 3G networks). These sockets are hidden under a special latch, which makes working with them convenient and provides some protection for the functional holes from dust and moisture.

On the bottom edge of the device you can see a socket for charging a tablet (which also serves as a connector for connecting to a PC), as well as speakers under a special mesh. They are located in such a way that when working in a horizontal position with the tablet, the speakers will not be covered.

Screen

Manufacturers installed a display operating on a PLS matrix on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 tablet. At its core, this is a competitor to IPS screens, which Samsung brought to the market. She uses her development on different models, and all are characterized by special, soft colors, which are somewhat more difficult to distinguish in sunlight. Therefore, be prepared for the fact that working with the tablet in bright weather will be somewhat problematic - only the maximum brightness will save you.

The resolution here is at the level of 2012 - it reaches only 1024 by 600 pixels, so you shouldn’t count on high image density (it will be at the level of 170 pixels per inch). But the display works with the multi-touch function, which recognizes up to 10 touches.

Also, if you look at the characteristics of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2, you will notice the presence of a light sensor. As tests show, it does not work entirely accurately, so it is more comfortable (reviews confirm this) to switch the tablet to manual mode for determining the screen brightness and setting it yourself.

Battery

As we all know, the problem of autonomy is relevant for many mobile devices, especially those with small screens and overall dimensions. As for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2, user reviews speak of it as a fairly autonomous device with a strong, durable battery. At least the technical description talks about a battery capacity of 4000 mAh. Due to optimized energy consumption, the device can last in the most intensive use mode (playing HD video with maximum volume in headphones) for up to 5 hours. Of course, with a more moderate charge consumption, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 tablet will be able to please the user with longer work.

Let us immediately note that you won’t be able to replace the battery yourself here - the back cover of the tablet is closed, and the holes in the left side of the case are used to work with the SIM card and microSD.

CPU

In terms of performance, there can be no complaints about the device - the tablet, according to the owners, works perfectly even under heavy loads. This is facilitated by the TI OMAP 4430 processor stated in the characteristics of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2, which has a clock frequency of 1 GHz and operates on two cores. The device operates with 1 GB of RAM, which, in principle, is enough to perform standard tasks. Although, of course, there are reviews in which people expressed wishes that the manufacturer increase this figure to at least 2 GB.

According to tests, the web browser on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (to which we devoted a review) works faster than other tablets with a 7-inch screen released in 2012. The developers achieved this precisely due to more productive filling.

Camera

We all understand that using a tablet computer to take pictures and shoot videos is not very convenient. Nevertheless, manufacturers continue to equip their devices with cameras. The same applies to the Galaxy Tab 2.

According to the technical specifications, the tablet has a 3-megapixel main camera that allows you to take pictures in a resolution of 2048 by 1536 pixels. In addition, the video creation function is supported (720 p format). In addition to it, there is also a front camera for taking “selfies”; traditionally it has a lower resolution (only 0.3 megapixels).

As customer reviews indicate, pictures on the device are quite acceptable (using the main camera), while working with the front camera can only be discussed in the context of conversations on Skype and other instant messengers.

operating system

Of course, traditionally the device from the Korean company Samsung runs on Android OS version 4.0.3. This firmware has been on the device since it entered the market. As for the updates, they probably reached modification 4.2.2, after which the company refused to adapt the following parts of the operating system. That's why you won't see version 5.1 here.

Included with this version of the system is a graphical shell called TouchWiz, which is known for its special design and operating logic. It could also be seen on other devices from Samsung, in particular, on the Samsung Galaxy S3.

Multimedia

With support for multimedia files on the tablet, things are excellent. It's all about pre-installed software from Samsung, which allows you to recognize most of the formats available today. Problems such as “video (or audio) won’t turn on on Samsung Galaxy Tab 2” are extremely rare. You can combat this by simply installing additional players (for example, MX Player would be an ideal solution for this). This applies in particular to the MKV format. However, if you do not take this into account, you can also work with standard applications - they have all the functionality necessary for this.

Connection

In terms of communication capabilities, the tablet we are describing is not much different from most gadgets on the market. If you go into the settings presented on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2, you will notice that there is Bluetooth support for sending and receiving files, there is WiFi for working with wireless landline networks, and a GSM module is installed, which allows you to make calls and send messages as if from a phone. In addition, the buyer can choose a package that will include a module for 3G - then the device will gain even greater mobility, being able to work in networks.

After a series of reviews of Samsung smartphones, we decided to somewhat diversify and expand our review activities and review a tablet, which today is considered one of the most popular devices in its segment - Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1.

Unpacking the device

Honestly, I would have continued to look at this wonderful little box, and that would have been enough for me, if not for the review (just kidding). Having opened the box, the hero of the occasion immediately appears in front of us - the tablet itself. At first glance, I liked the tablet, but we will look at it later and more closely, but for now I will tell you what else is in the box.

In addition to the tablet, the box contains: a user manual, a USB cable and a charger. As for the charger, it is made of two parts (not at all like an iPAD - sarcasm). This completes the configuration. It is worth noting that headphones are not included with the Galaxy Tab 2 and, if necessary, you will have to buy them separately. Although a tablet is not a smartphone, I think it would be logical to equip the tablet with headphones. The tablet box inside has special compartments in which all the listed items included in the kit are placed. For well-thought-out packaging, the developers can give a solid “A”, unlike the Samsung Galaxy S3. This completes the unpacking stage - let's move on to the tablet itself.

Visual inspection

The design of the tablet is very nice, the plastic is of good quality, there are no gaps. The gray metal side inserts look somewhat interesting, which harmonize very well with the white color of the tablet. The back cover is also made of plastic, which bends a little when pressed slightly with your finger, but this is not scary.

What surprised me was the presence of two speakers on either side of the screen - on the front panel. I think this is very correct and worthy of all praise, since the sound from the tablet is directed towards the user, and not to the sides, and this will create a stereo effect, which is necessary for listening to music and watching videos.

There is a video camera and a light sensor on the front. There are no mechanical buttons on the front panel. On the upper side there are: a tablet power button, a volume rocker, a slot for inserting a memory card, a headphone jack (3.5) and a slot for a SIM card. On the bottom panel in the center there is a connector for connecting a USB cable, to the right of which there is a microphone. On the back panel, at the top center, there is only a camera, without flash or sensors. The sides of the tablet do not include any connectors or buttons.

The screen is quite bright, but in the sun it becomes a mirror. As for the sensor, it is quite clear and recognizes up to 10 simultaneous touches, which allows you to control the tablet with all your fingers. But when actively using the device, when scrolling through some elements, the tablet became a little hesitant. It remains unclear to me to understand the logic of why Samsung makes smartphones more powerful than tablets. In other matters, we smoothly moved on to the characteristics of the tablet, which are appropriate to talk about before touching on the operation of the tablet itself.

Working with a tablet

The Andoid interface is nothing short of pleasing, especially with the TouchWiz shell. The proprietary TouchWiz shell from Samsung in this tablet has been significantly improved and I really liked the changes. It is worth noting the appearance of the application scroll bar, which appears at the bottom of the screen. For some reason, I thought about the meaning of having this shell, whether this is a way for a South Korean manufacturer to implement its concept, or is it a so-called attempt at creating its own OS. On the one hand, creating your own independent OS is smart, why share profits with anyone, but, nevertheless, it is not logical, because Google has more experience in this matter.

I would like to dwell separately on the presence of telephony in the tablet. The closest competitor of this tablet, manufactured by Apple, does not have this. As avid tech enthusiasts would say, you don’t need telephony on a tablet; there’s a smartphone for that. Yes, I agree, if a tablet is supposed to be a tablet, then why is there a GPS navigator, camera, etc.? Versatility is everything to us, and if the tablet is a mobile device, then telephony will never hurt, especially if it has support for SIM cards for access to 3G and GPRS, then the lack of GSM telephony is illogical. To make phone calls, the tablet will become completely self-sufficient and will not require additional devices.

After working on the tablet for several hours and installing some applications, I came across the fact that I do not have enough memory in the device. I installed 4 programs and 5 games - and that’s it, I couldn’t install the 6th game because I simply didn’t have enough memory. Of the 16 GB available in the tablet, the user gets only 4 – and this is really very little. Yes, I can buy and expand the memory using a memory card, but, nevertheless, the very fact of the small amount of available built-in memory was somewhat disappointing. The tablet's memory can be expanded in two ways: by installing a memory card and using the Yandex.Disk or Google Drive applications.

The sound of the tablet is quite high quality, especially considering the speakers located on the front of the device. Playing high-definition videos has some stuttering, they are not particularly significant, but they are there. As for playing non-HD video files and playing videos online, there are no slowdowns. Regarding games, the situation here is almost the same - resource-intensive games with high-quality graphics freeze somewhat, simpler ones run quite well.

Galaxy Tab 2 or iPad 4

Well, how can we not compare two competitors in this review: the Galaxy Tab 2 or the iPad 4. The screen of the Galaxy Tab 2, as mentioned earlier, has a diagonal of 10.1 inches, while the iPad 4 has 9.7, which is basically the same. As for the display resolution, the picture is completely different: the Galaxy Tab 2 screen has a resolution of 1280x800 pixels, while the iPad 4 has 2048x1536, which is almost 2 times different.

Now let's compare the technical parameters. Both tablets have dual-core processors, the Galaxy Tab 2 has a 1 GHz processor frequency, and the iPad 4 has a 1.4 GHz processor. The amount of RAM on both tablets is 1 GB.

If we compare cameras, the camera in the iPad 4 is 2 megapixels larger than in the Tab 2, while the Apple product has autofocus.

As for the price difference, the iPad 4 costs a couple of thousand more. In general, it is very difficult to give a definite answer as to which of these two tablets, since these are 2 completely different philosophies.

General impression of the tablet

I liked the tablet. A fairly high-quality device that will replace a computer, so to speak, in a mobile format. On the device you can watch high-definition video files, listen to music and access the Internet, and what’s more, you can work on this tablet.

A fairly large number of applications in the Android market will turn this tablet into a functional and very convenient device. In addition, a large number of games will not leave any gamer indifferent.

The vast majority of buyers are satisfied that they bought this tablet. Some users in their reviews point out some of the tablet's disadvantages, but after analyzing them, I can say with confidence that all these disadvantages are not serious, and, in my opinion, they are unfounded. You have to understand that this is a tablet computer before you ask anything extra from it. For example, many people don’t like the lack of autofocus in a tablet camera, but again, you need to take into account that a tablet and a photo/video camera are completely different devices, and replacing a camera or video camera with a tablet is completely illogical. The existing camera makes it possible to photograph something important, but does not in any way replace a camera and video camera.

It remains a mystery to me why Samsung equipped its flagship tablet with weaker components in comparison with its current smartphones. It would be quite logical to do the opposite, but we have what we have. Overall, the tablet works well, and the components have enough parameters for comfortable work on it.

As for whether it’s worth buying this tablet or not, it’s definitely worth it if you:

  • Do you want to have a mobile computer to use outside the home?
  • Do you want to spend less time at the computer?
  • Do you want to have access to the Internet to read news, weather, visit social pages, etc.;
  • You just want to buy yourself a “toy for the soul.”

Video review of Samsung Galaxy Tab 2

We would also like to present to your attention a video review of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 tablet, where you can clearly evaluate the operation of the device.

Announced the new Galaxy Tab 2 tablet with a 10.1-inch display in February 2012, and in April it should appear on the shelves of Russian stores. Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 review: white collar among tablets

And since almost all the leading mobile manufacturers decided to try a new direction, it goes without saying that the competition in this segment is fierce. Even at the Android platform level, the competitive stakes are extremely high. Many manufacturers have interesting models that can attract buyers. But just as in the “wild west” the revolver was the final argument, so in the spring-summer 2012 season the price plays this role. This argument will make any hothead come to his senses.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1

If the changes in the characteristics of the new generation of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 family are more of an evolutionary indicator, then the cost of the device is precisely a real revolution from Samsung. As you remember, the first Tab entered the market at a very inhumane price, which naturally scared off many potential buyers. The cost exceeded even the price tag that was current at that time. Now the version without a 3G module costs 14,990, and with a cellular modem – 19,990. This is impressive! This is explained by the fact that the first version of the tablet was a “touchstone”; a lot of engineering resources were spent on the development and refinement of the software and shell. But when the devices began to be sold in significant volumes, the price changed in a direction that was pleasant for us, the buyers.

Dimensions are 256.6 x 175.3 x 9.7mm. Weight is only 588 grams, which is very little for such a modern and advanced device. And although it is not made of aluminum, it weighs almost 75 grams less than its direct competitor. For some, excuse the pun, this may be a significant factor.

The back of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 is no longer made of a smooth material, but of a rough material that is pleasant to the touch. This is convenient, especially when gripping with one hand. In addition, the plastic is very resistant to scratches and dirt, so with sufficiently careful handling, a cover may not even be needed. The color of the back is not just gray, but rather imitates metal. And although the manufacturer’s website presents a white model, we tested a copy with a black frame and gray back. Along the edges of the black frame there is a gray outline with speaker grilles. It looks very attractive, however, we saw a similar design in the (tablet with stylus) that was presented in Barcelona at the exhibition this year.

The screen quality of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 is more than decent

The resolution is, usual for such a diagonal, 1280 x 800. It is not clear whether at this moment in the development of technology it is worth striving for higher figures? Most applications work at this resolution. 720 p video is played, as you understand, pixel by pixel and even with a margin. Playing even larger movies on a tablet may not always be logical, given that such files weigh more and load the processor so much that it becomes critical for overall performance.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 matrix is made using PLS TFT technology. This is, of course, not AMOLED or IPS. But you can’t really find fault with the viewing angles. Everything is on the level. However, in the sun the screen becomes very blind. And the glossy glass surface can act as a mirror. Therefore, the brightness has to be turned up a little. In principle, automatic brightness adjustment copes well with its tasks. But because of the resolution, I want to sharpen the picture a little and make it a little more contrasty. Since we don’t have such settings, we can only compensate for this by increasing the brightness. This is not always convenient, especially when you are in a darkened room.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1: the strongest player in the Android tablet market

Performance is driven by a dual-core TI OMAP 4430 1 GHz processor (ARM Cortex A9), which operates at 1 GHz. The modern PowerVR SGX 540 chip is responsible for graphics operation in both two- and three-dimensional modes. RAM is 1 GB. The tablet has a fairly capacious 7000 mAh battery. So the filling is very modern.

We would call the performance normal, but there is no reserve. If more resource-hungry applications appear in the near future, then, most likely, we will encounter constant slowdowns.

In principle, we managed to run video with a resolution of 1080p, which was undoubtedly redundant, given the display resolution. It was clear that although the device was coping, it was operating at the upper limit of its capabilities; in especially dynamic scenes, frame drops could be noticed. At a resolution of 720p, we no longer encountered any stuttering. So the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 can become a full-fledged video companion for travel and short trips.

Wireless interfaces include Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct for pairing with other devices, Bluetooth version 3, 3G (HSPA + 21 Mbit/s, HSUPA 5.76 Mbit/s) and voice communication on the GSM network. A-GPS and GLONASS navigation is supported.

The main menu of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 looks familiar

Considering the presence of a SIM card slot and the tablet’s ability to act as a 3G-WiFi router, the role of an Internet access point can be assigned to the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2.

Still, it has a 7000 mAh battery, more than any smartphone. On average, when using the device intensively, it required charging after 6 hours; in a more gentle mode, the figures increased to 7 hours.

The device already comes with Android Ice Cream Sandwih operating system version 4.0.3. As you know, all navigation there is arranged through “soft” keys; there are no hardware buttons other than power and volume control.

On the top edge there is a slot for a microSD memory card (supports up to 32 Gb inclusive), a standard 3.5 mm jack for a stereo headset and a slot for a SIM card. At the bottom is a proprietary power/charging/data connector. As we have already said, the speakers are located on the front of the tablet. Geometrically, they look very large, but in terms of sound quality, it seems that they are even slightly inferior to the audio solution installed on its seven-inch brother. The sound quality is not great, but it is quite good as a speakerphone and speaker for dubbing games and movies (series) with a lot of dialogue. At maximum volume, the speakers definitely choke. So, it’s worth using a headset or external speakers in order to arrange a disco or group video viewing.

The main part of the interfaces is on the top edge of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1

As we said, the device is equipped with a SIM card slot. But in this case, the GSM module supports not only data transmission. can also act as a telephone.

The conversation can be carried out through the headset. And also, we mentioned that the tablet has a perfectly implemented speaker system to work as a public address system. We really liked the device in this mode. The sound is clear and loud. If necessary, you can use a wired or Bluetooth headset. The interface of the phone application is no different from that installed in top Samsung smartphones. The Phone application icon is also located in the TouchWiz panel.

Again, TouchWiz is a great add-on to the Android operating system. Engineers spent a lot of time correcting noticeable shortcomings of the operating system authors from Google. For example, on the main menu line, next to the standard “Home”, “Back” and “Options” buttons, there is a button for taking instant screenshots. Believe me, it's very convenient!

The battery capacity of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 is amazing

Also, in the tray there are several applications that may be needed at any moment. These are note-taking programs, a calculator, a player control utility, a calendar, a task manager, and a world clock. All these programs are called on top of the working windows, and they are pleasant to work with. For example, notes can be taken in the form of small drawings, or by typing passages of text. Using the task manager, you can close all background running programs with just one click. This really makes the tablet easier to use, considering how many programs and utilities a modern user might need.

Previously, the reason for numerous complaints was the lack of application programs and interesting games. Especially considering the number of programs, user-friendly interface and billing in the App Store. However, it is clear that the Android platform and the Android Play app store are evolving. And more and more leading software developers are paying close attention to owners of devices with a cheerful green Android robot running in their bellies. Now, decent gaming titles have finally appeared on the Android platform, the lack of which we talked about earlier. The situation is repeated with game consoles. There, too, decent games appear a year and a half after the launch of the console. Now users have access to almost all the interesting games available for Apple tablets.

Basic programs and applications for running services that are necessary in everyday work (we are talking about average tasks) are almost always presented in several versions. What's nice is that many useful applications are free.

The rear camera of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 ceases to be a mandatory but useless trick

So far, Market still cannot boast of ease of navigation and categorization of applications. The wide coverage of platforms also has an impact. Thus, an application written for a smartphone will look very bad on a tablet, or even not launch at all or close without recording the results.

It should be immediately noted that from a performance point of view, Samsung tablets have a significant advantage - they come with a set of useful programs. Initially, the device comes pre-installed with the Touch Wiz add-on, which we already wrote about. And also - a convenient video editor, photo editor, which launches immediately after taking a screenshot: you can cut and send the necessary image. In the “starter” software package we find a file manager, a notes program, a chat, a task scheduler and others.

The tablet computers of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 family are equipped with the Polaris Office package for working with documents. You can try installing other programs, but we get this for free, so we can stop using it.

There are two cameras. Front – standard VGA camera to support video calls. The rear one is three megapixel. Unlike the previous version, the tablet is now not equipped with a flash. In our opinion, nothing terrible happened. Both photo solutions are nothing outstanding. The main camera, at the moment, can be used as a secondary one during a video call, when there is a need to show the situation of the telephone conversation.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 test results

At the same time, the interface of the shooting program is thought out to the smallest detail. All settings are presented and, in addition to built-in filters, there are even such advanced modes as waiting for a smile or taking a panorama. But noise, low resolution and lack of flash preclude comfortable use of the camera for serious purposes. Also, the function of automatically linking coordinates to photographs and video clips could be useful - a good solution for compiling a photo/video report about the trip. But do you want to shoot with a tablet all the time? Moreover, don’t forget how much the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 weighs!

The tablet comes with a power adapter and a USB to Samsung proprietary connector cable. Since such a wire is not very common, at first, to synchronize you will need to constantly pull the cable out of the adapter body. So, perhaps, when purchasing a tablet, if you plan to download a lot of content not over the air, you should think about simultaneously purchasing an additional data cable. The most interesting thing is that such a wire is no longer so difficult to find in kiosks selling electronics and accessories. This is another indicator that Samsung tablets are widespread in the Russian market. Fully charging the device takes more than 3 hours. Unfortunately, the device does not charge from the USB port.

The Touch Wiz shell gives you access to the most popular applications of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 with one click

Probably the conclusion in the article about a modern tablet is the most difficult thing. These devices are too similar, and it is not possible to say anything special. The majority of leading manufacturers have begun to produce balanced, interesting solutions that, more often than not, are nothing to criticize. However, this time, the manufacturer made our task easier, for which we thank him very much.

Since the device has not received a significant upgrade, in terms of hardware (everything is at the same level and nothing more), the camera even lost its flash, and the tablet itself has become a little heavier, then it is most likely worth purchasing it for those who are buying their first tablet. The price of admission to this area of the world of mobile electronics is extremely attractive. If you're not looking for certain "gimmicks" such as a camera or a certain screen technology, then the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 is a great candidate for your work and play companion.

Tablets: bestsellers of July 2013

Statistical data provided by the Media Markt chain of stores. According to the tradition of the “Bestsellers” project and for the convenience of understanding the material, the models that have become sales leaders are divided into three groups, depending on their cost. In the first group we placed tablets with an average price of 8 to 12 thousand rubles - they belong to the budget segment. The second group consists of tablets priced from 13 to 20 thousand rubles. This is the middle segment, and it can be considered the most massive.

Finally, the third group of tablets - those that cost more than 20 thousand rubles, and there is no upper ceiling - this group includes the most innovative models with the best technical characteristics. Separately, we note that today we are not considering tablets priced less than 8 thousand rubles - the world has changed, and so has the market for portable equipment, and tablets cheaper than this amount, in principle, are nothing special: they are almost completely identical in their functions.

The list of each group consists of five positions. We traditionally start the show with the model in fifth place and end first. Since there are nearly a dozen tablets today, we tried to fit information about each as compactly as possible. Another point concerns the diagonal: many models presented in the lists have both their own younger and older brothers, differing in screen diagonal, the presence of wireless interfaces and the amount of built-in memory. The difference in price is usually several thousand rubles, but these few thousand account for both nerves and an incomparably different experience of ease of use.

Well, the last remark concerns the brands themselves. The descendant of the world's first tablet, Apple iPad mini, is present in all three price categories, not to mention its “big brother”.

Budget models

The tablet is a relatively new product on the market as a whole, but quite serious manufacturers like Samsung, not very well-known ones like 3Q, and even Russian ones like Prestigio have already become interested in it. For a couple of thousand rubles you can find both models with a resistive and low-quality screen at a completely bargain price, as well as quite high-quality devices and even with an IPS screen, if you buy them directly in China. Of course, the concept of “quality” in this case directly correlates with price, since if the same model cost twice as much, it would not even receive a “two” in the overall ranking.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 - long-lived tablet market

Such tablets usually have most of the characteristics of their more expensive and advanced counterparts, but all this is implemented at a slightly lower quality level. The screen is worse, there is less memory, the camera is not the best, and the shell sometimes causes a sad smile. Their design is almost the same, like most tablets in general: black “rectangles” without buttons on the front panel - since they work mainly on Android 4.0/4.1.

Therefore, we have cut off tablets priced below eight thousand rubles, and our budget niche starts from this mark.

5th place: Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10"

And we’ll begin our journey through budget models with this long-lived market and chart-topper in the traditional “black frame” type with a silver back cover and an undistinguished case. But in our country it appears three times, occupying, in addition to fifth place in the “state sector” sector, the last two places in the “mid-range sector”. Their differences are minimal, but anyway, first let’s talk about the model from the budget fifth place. Its screen, as the name implies, has a diagonal of 10.1 inches, while its resolution is 1280x800 pixels, but the type of matrix is to everyone’s delight - PLS. As for the actual hardware, the Tab 2 is based on the good old TI OMAP 4430 processor with two gigahertz cores, it has 1 GB of memory and 16 GB of internal memory. There is also support for all the necessary wireless standards, including Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0+HS, aGPS and two cameras: a 2 MP front camera and an awkward 3 MP rear camera.

According to its characteristics, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 now performs quite successfully in the lower price segment

The dimensions inspire respect not only with a thin body (257x176x97 mm) and less than average weight (565 grams), but also with a capacious 7000 mAh battery, which, according to the manufacturer, provides up to ten hours of operation. The operating system on the tablet is standard, Google Android 4.0.

The price of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 P5110 has dropped to 12,000 rubles today, and compared to what it was a year ago, we can say that the premium tablet has simply jumped into the budget category. However, we repeat, it is also available in the middle segment, and even in duplicate.

4th place: Apple iPad mini

It occupies fourth place in the Media Markt hit parade, and it is quite difficult to compare it with anything. Compared to “adult iPads,” we are dealing with a model that is very modest in terms of technical equipment. But, nevertheless, popular - which once again proves its presence in the rankings in each of the three segments. The models are just a little different. And since the iPad mini now appears in our rating for the first time, let’s outline its configuration in more detail.

Apple iPad mini also features a classic 4:3 aspect ratio

In general, if you don’t know that this is Apple, it will seem that the configuration is very, very weak. But in reality, everything is quite enough. And a dual-core Apple A5 processor with gigahertz cores, and 1 GB of RAM, and a 7.9-inch IPS screen with 162 ppi. Although the last figure is really small, because the screen resolution is only 1024x768 pixels (the aspect ratio is 4:3). The cameras are ordinary, five megapixels on the rear, and 1.2 megapixels on the front. There is also Bluetooth 4.0.

Of course, the tablet also has a number of interesting features and innovations. For example, a new high-speed Lightning port or recording video in FullHD format with a rear camera (even despite the “budget” solution).

The main difference between the three models (that is, one in each segment) is the wireless interfaces and body color. What occupies fourth place in the Media Markt lists has a white body color and only supports Wi-Fi (without mobile communications). By the way, the price of a small iPad is around 12 thousand rubles.

The founder of Apple was wrong to mistrust the seven-inch version of the iPad, it became a hit

3rd and 2nd seats: Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7"

The third and second places are occupied by the seven-inch modification. The differences between the two places come down to exactly one parameter – color. In third place we see a gray gadget (or silver), and in second place – white.

In all other respects, this is the same Galaxy Tab 2 that was in fifth place on the list of “state budget” devices, perhaps with minor differences. Well, not quite small - for example, the screen diagonal is seven inches with a resolution of 1024x600 pixels. But the matrix type is the same - PLS. The volume of internal memory for owners of both positions is 8 GB, and plus there is support for microSD memory cards up to 32 GB. And the “younger brother” also has 3G, which is very convenient, and supports protocols up to HSPA+. The front camera is worse - only 0.3 MP, and the rear one - the same three megapixels. And in addition to GPS/aGPS, the GLONASS satellite system is supported.

The seven-inch version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 is almost no different from the ten-inch one

The battery capacity is 4000 mAh, dimensions are 194x122x11 mm, weight is 344 grams. The average price at the end of July 2013 is about 10.5 thousand rubles for both color schemes.

Best Selling Budget Tablet: Prestigio Multipad PMP7100D3G

And finally, in first place is a semi-domestic product - the Prestigio Multipad PMP7100D3G tablet.

The best-selling budget tablet was a device from Prestigio

Today, the average price of the model is 11 thousand rubles, and this gadget has really gained great popularity. Its screen diagonal is 10.1 inches, the screen is capacitive with a resolution of 1280x800 pixels, but the number of pixels per inch is correspondingly very low - 149 ppi units. Inside it lives a powerful dual-core RockChip RK3066 processor with a frequency of 1600 MHz on a Cortex A9 core, 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB of integrated flash memory (plus the ability to expand it using microSD cards up to 32 GB), Wi-Fi modules, Bluetooth , 3G and two cameras: rear 2 MP and front with VGA resolution. Plus, the tablet is equipped with a Mali MP-400 gaming graphics adapter, a light sensor and an accelerometer. The dimensions of the device are 257x175x10 mm, weight – 680 grams. The battery capacity is an impressive 6400 mAh, and the operating system uses Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

Middle segment

The middle segment is considered the most widespread, and here we see devices that a year ago would definitely have been classified as premium. They have powerful platforms and support for 3G and 4G mobile Internet, and they are already suitable not only for watching movies on the plane, but also for productive games and other resource-intensive tasks.

5th and 4th places: Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10"

It’s worth starting the review of mid-segment devices with the same participant with whom we started the previous segment - of course, we are talking about. In the “middle peasants” of “Media Markt” it occupies two places at once - fifth and fourth - and the differences again lie in the color of the case. In fifth place is a black unit, in fourth place is a white one.

Same Samsung Galaxy Tab 2, but this time with a 3G module

These differences are visual, and technical ones consist in the presence of a slot for SIM cards with 3G support, which is where the differences end, however, for this small addition, sellers beg buyers to give them 3,000 rubles more than for a unit with Wi-Fi only. You can also add that these models have the same amount of permanent memory – 16 GB.

Otherwise, all three devices are identical, which gives us reason to move on to the next participant in the review.

3rd place: Acer Iconia Tab A211

This time it's finally someone new: . This relative, in principle, can also be partly classified as “budget”, since it balances on the edge with models in the mid-price range and costs an average of 13.4 thousand rubles.

All tablets are characterized by several parameters. This, of course, is the screen diagonal (10.1 inches), matrix type (here is a simple TFT), resolution (1280x800) and pixel density per inch - there are only 149 ppi. The A211 has Bluetooth 2.1, Wi-Fi, a SIM card slot with 3G, stereo speakers and a very modest battery capacity of 3260 mAh. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to work with such a tablet for very long.

But otherwise he is more than worthy of nice words. Let’s say that its “fiery engine” is quite decent: a quad-core NVidia Tegra 3 with a frequency of 1200 MHz per core (and an NVIDIA GeForce ULP graphics processor), 1 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal memory. Micro-SD cards up to 32 GB are also supported.

Acer Iconia Tab A211 opens the top three in the mid-range segment

Particular attention should be paid to the 2 MP front camera. If only because there is only one, Acer decided to abandon the rear camera, which can undoubtedly be considered a plus for a mid-range tablet: it is of little use.

But the dimensions of Acer’s brainchild are not the smallest: 260x175x12 mm, and the weight is slightly more than that of its competitors: as much as 711 grams. One last interesting fact is the almost non-existent price fluctuation for the A211. From the very moment of its appearance in February to this day, the device costs an average of 15.5 thousand rubles, which, obviously, is an adequate price and indicates a good price/quality balance.

Acer's brainchild is built on the powerful NVIDIA Tegra 3 platform, but is equipped with a less capacious battery

Best-selling mid-range tablet (2nd and 1st): Apple iPad mini

Well, in the first two places is an old friend - the Apple iPad mini, only this time it’s cooler and more expensive. No, this does not mean that it has more RAM or processor cores - here, as with previous test subjects, the main difference comes down to one thing - the presence of a 3G modem. Actually, this description can be considered complete (everything else is identical to position number 4 in the list of budget “tablets”), all that remains to be said is that in second place in the Media Markt list is a black copy, and in first place is a white one.

And now it’s time to move on to those who have been waiting for so long - the premium segment of tablets. Although there are no special surprises there, and don’t expect a variety of devices either.

No compromises

Tablets costing more than 20 thousand rubles can already be called top-class. They incorporate the latest technology, offering high-quality screens, the most convenient controls and the most innovation possible. True, the figure “20 thousand” is quite arbitrary here. The device can cost 20, 25, or 30 thousand.

5, 3, 2 seats: Apple iPad 4

In fifth place in the Media Markt top list, quite expectedly, it was recently updated and is still the best-selling tablet in principle. As proof, it is enough to mention only the fact that the fourth iPad is not only in last place in this chart, but also in third and second. That is, out of five possible places, Jobs’ brainchild took three.

Apple iPad 4 took 3 out of 5 places in our premium devices chart

And all because Apple. This, as you understand, is the only non-Android device on our list (have you noticed that there are no models on Windows in the Media Markt lists? And then there are more of them), and it is quite difficult to indicate its exact price, since models with variable parameters are in slender There are quite a lot of iPad ranks: from a 16 GB Wi-Fi model to a 64 GB Wi-Fi + 3G. But since we have specific devices in specific positions, it will be a little easier.

The main difference between the new iPad 4 and the old iPad 2 and iPad mini is the screen: a new type of matrix and a resolution of 2048x1536 for the new one versus 1024x768 for the old one. The modifications in the second and third places differ slightly, but more on them a little later.

The Apple iPad 4 display is still considered the best

So, the processor of the Apple iPad 4 is a dual-core Apple A6X with 1.4 GHz per core, with 1 GB of RAM. The screen is made using Retina technology with an aspect ratio of 4:3, a gorgeous resolution of 2048x1536 pixels and a diagonal of 9.7 inches with multi-touch support. All models have rear and front cameras of 5 MP and 1.2 MP, respectively. Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi and GPS/aGPS with GLONASS are also available. There are models with and without 3G or 4G, with built-in memory sizes ranging from 16 to 64 GB, but in fifth place is the MD522 modification with 16 GB of internal memory and a 3G modem.

Apple iPad 4 has dimensions of 241x186x9 mm and a weight of 662 grams. It is curious that with the same dimensions as the iPad 2, the new product weighs more. And it costs an average of 23 thousand rubles.

4th place: Apple iPad mini

In fourth place on the lists of the Federal Electronics Network was again an Apple product, only this time it is already familiar to us. Which is surprising, since, naturally, there are no improvements in technical characteristics here. Mobile communications using the 4G protocol just appeared, and the amount of built-in memory became a maximum of 32 GB. The average price for a “top iPad mini” is close to the lower limit and amounts to 21 thousand rubles. In general, he is mostly there, but he already has one foot here.

The seven-inch version of the Apple iPad is again on the list, but this time with a 3G module and 32 GB of memory

In the middle of the list and in second place, as we wrote above, live two other iPad 4s, which have the same basic technical characteristics and differ only in two aspects: color and the amount of built-in memory. Both devices are white (a black iPad sits in fifth place), and the one in third place has 32 GB of internal memory and a price of 26 thousand rubles, while the second one has an Apple tablet with 16 GB of memory and an average price of 22 thousand rubles. All three have the ability to connect to the Internet via 4G mobile communications.

The best-selling tablet was the Sony Xperia Z model

Best-selling premium tablet: Sony Xperia Z

Who will top the hit parade? This lucky one turned out to be one of the most interesting gadgets - the Sony Xperia Tablet Z. And this is not just a tablet, but the thinnest and lightest tablet in the world (its thickness is 6.9 mm and its weight is 495 grams). In addition to this, it also has a whole set of impressive advantages.

Let's say the screen is made using Mobile Bravia Engine 2 technology, and although the pixel density of the device is only 224 ppi (at 10.1 inches diagonally), those who first got acquainted with the device note very good picture quality.

And the platform in the Sony Xperia Tablet Z is the most modern, it is a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 (APQ8064) with an Adreno 320 graphics coprocessor, and four CPU cores operate at a frequency of 1.5 GHz each. The tablet has more than enough RAM to run Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS: 2 GB. Permanent memory - 16 or 32 GB (in the Media Markt charts - 16 GB modification), you can use micro-SDXC memory cards to increase the space up to 64 GB.

The tablet from Sony boasts a record low thickness and weight, as well as dust and moisture protection

We can’t help but say about the two cameras of the new product. The rear camera uses a proprietary Exmor R BSI sensor and has a resolution of 8.1 MP. The front camera has a quite decent resolution of 2.2 MP.

Wireless interfaces are also presented in full, even despite the record-breaking thickness of the device. Dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth latest version 4.0, 4G LTE modem and NFC chip.

But all these are boring technical characteristics, and this is not what makes the tablet interesting. And at least by the fact that it was made moisture- and dust-proof, and not just like that, but in accordance with IPX5/IPX7 and IP5X standards; which means, respectively, protection up to short-term immersion in water to a depth of 1 meter (and you can not be afraid to get caught in the rain with it), and almost complete protection from dust with complete protection from user contact with the insides of the device.

Sony Tablet Z combines beauty and functionality

Even externally, this simple “black rectangle” looks very stylish and is available in black and white versions, although it was only in the first one on the Media Markt lists. defiantly flat, the ends are made slightly convex and made of plastic, but this does not give it a “thick” appearance. Yes, even the speakers of the new tablet are not simple either, but support S-Force Front Surround 3D standards, including for headphones (virtual surround sound technology).
