Even an iPhone X owner may want to buy an iPhone SE. The desire is absolutely normal. So I couldn’t resist.
I hold the 128 GB model in my hands and have no regrets. As many as five things in it cannot be found in any other iPhone.
1. This case is PERFECT
No matter how much I like the steely “remnant” of the iPhone X, not a single Apple smartphone has reached the perfect style of the iPhone 5, 5s and SE.
Sharp sharpened edges. Organic glass inserts at the back. Ideal shades of colors without a single bad one - you want any, even pink. Brushed aluminum.
Yes, this is a “bar”, and now this design seems to be out of fashion. But every time I see the iPhone SE on the table, it's hard not to let myself pick it up. Like this beauty machined from a single piece of metal.
I admit that I am in the minority. That the majority would prefer some 6s for a similar amount. But for me they are incredibly boring compared to the SE. Neither the iPhone 6 nor the iPhone 8 causes such sensations.
The only complaint is that the edges cut into the hand, but you get used to it. Yes, and you can buy a cover. And I don’t want to, Apple once produced such a stylish thing.
2. He is very FAST. Fulminant
Let me remind you that the iPhone SE is equal to the iPhone 6s in terms of characteristics: A9 processor and 2 gigabytes of RAM. In the Android world, two gigabytes can only make you laugh. But in the Apple world, this is enough for great performance.
2 years after the announcement, iPhone SE continues to amaze with its speed of operation. Between it and the iPhone 5s there is an abyss of possibilities. When the 5s is dumb, the SE doesn't even stutter. And all modern applications and games are compatible with SE, including advanced ones or Fortnite.
There is one more important thing. I’ve never been a fan of the trend of putting cosmic resolution screens into smartphones. Are pixels difficult to distinguish? Great, that's enough.
The iPhone SE's relatively small display gives it lethal advantage over the iPhone 6s, which has similar characteristics. It’s not for nothing that the benchmarks are worse. When fewer resources are spent on maintaining extra pixels, even iOS system menus simply open faster. I speak from experience testing iOS 11.3 beta 6.
As a result, the owner of an iPhone SE enjoys instant opening of all applications, smooth animation, quick startup and other joys of life that are easy to forget about as the owner of a technically more advanced, but still unfinished iPhone X.
3. This is the MOST CONVENIENT iPhone ever
The first days after the purchase, I caught myself thinking: I’m trying to use this small device with both hands, and it turns out so-so. You can’t just get a few years out of using the iPhone Plus, and the X can’t be called fully “one-handed.”
In the world of large smartphones, the iPhone SE is an anomaly. After all, it can be never use your second hand. Type messages on the go, open and interact with notifications, and reach the edge of the screen opposite your hand. It's strange, pleasant and definitely cool.
The iOS interface is absolutely normal and looks organic on a small scale. I would even say that iOS 11 looks better on the SE screen than on the iPhone X: the clumsy minimalism of Cupertino’s people suits it there.
The text scale seems too large for some, but this can be easily corrected in Settings. Personally, I like the setting one notch lower than standard - within the limits of my usage habits (and the distance of the screen from my face), I don't lose anything and simultaneously see more on each screen of the system.
The overall size makes the iPhone SE an ideal second smartphone for those who aren't ready to switch to Android. Especially considering the next trick.
4. iPhone SE lasts a MAGICALLY LONG time
Once upon a time, Apple did not strive to reduce the body for the sake of battery life. Therefore, the iPhone SE manages to last longer than most other, expensive iPhones.
iPhone SE lasts 2 hours longer than iPhone 6s with similar hardware – 9 and a half hours with moderate continuous load versus 7 and a half hours. The solution is a relatively large battery, a small energy-efficient screen and a minimum of useless bells and whistles.
The SE's survivability means you don't have to worry about using it as a backup smart phone. I threw it in my bag and forgot it for a day or two. And when you need it, it will be discharged by a maximum of 20%, and the remainder will definitely be enough for a whole day of battery life.
Less than a week after the day of purchase, my iPhone SE has already saved me twice when the battery on the main iPhone X died.
Then why buy a “dialer” or a “bucket” if you can stay in the Apple ecosystem with one of the company’s most successful devices at a low price? So I decided the same.
5. It costs practically NOTHING
For months in a row, the iPhone SE has been selling out left and right. I saw prices in the area 12 thousand rubles for a new smartphone! Not restored. In the store, and not from hand or from gray trucks.
You can go ahead and take the 128 gigabyte model. Or you can search a little longer and find a 16-gigabyte version that has already been discontinued for relative pennies. This will definitely be enough if you use the device as a secondary one.
I sincerely don’t know of a single smartphone in Russia that will provide the same level of performance, battery life, ease of use, support for top applications and games. Oh yes, another cool design, which is now not found even on flagships without a magnifying glass and the game “find 5 differences”.
With him impossible compete, so no one even tries. Yes, you can buy a “Xiaomi” the size of a shovel, fantasize about its coolness in the comments on the site, but secretly sit your pants on the 4PDA forum in search of a solution to the next proprietary problem of Chinese Androids.

The anticipation is fueled by the potential budget and availability of the future device. Various information leaks and even renders of the device continue to leak onto the network. The funniest thing about the situation is that the manufacturer has not yet officially confirmed the presentation date for the iPhone SE 2.
How does the world know that a new Apple device is about to be released? The company registers the device it plans to release in the list of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC). A new model from Apple (its name is unknown) was registered in April. At one time, it was from this list that the public learned about the upcoming release of AirPods, iPhone 7 and iPad 2018. Therefore, we should hope that the new model will actually appear soon, and it will actually be the iPhone SE 2. Presumably, for a number of reasons this cannot be none of the modifications of the iPhone X or iPhone 9.
What will happen in iPhone SE 2?
What can Apple technology fans expect from the iPhone SE 2? The characteristics can be called quite approximate. Presumably, the device will be small in size. The filling will be placed in the body of the basic CE model or the body of one of the iPhones 6/6s/7 will be made more compact. The manufacturer keeps this a secret. According to rumors, development was carried out under the code name Jaguar, but it is unlikely that the phone will be released under this name.
For iPhone SE 2, the basic specifications will look something like this:
- 4 or 4.6-inch screen with a “monobrow” cutout (like the iPhone X);
- absence of a Home button;
- improved Face ID facial identification function, the presence of TrueDepth cameras necessary for the technology (this is consistent with the absence of a Home button);
- a system based on a 64-bit 4-core A10 Fusion chipset (according to other sources, a newer 6-core A11 Bionic chip);
- RAM 2 GB;
- the main camera is 12 megapixels with optical image stabilization (the same as the iPhone 8) and the front camera is 7 megapixels;
- 3D Touch system on the front edge (expected, but debatable);
- battery 1700 mAh (the predecessor SE had 1624 mAh, that is, battery life will not increase significantly);
- lack of 3.5 audio output for headphones (it disappeared for the first time in the iPhone 7, and was still present in the previous SE model);
- Perhaps it will support wireless charging technology - just like the latest flagship.
The new product will have hardware at the level of iPhone 7 and stronger than that of the “parent” model SE. If the assumptions are correct, then the iPhone SE 2 will be the most powerful compact phone in the world. At the same time, its expected cost is very affordable: $399 for a model with 32 GB memory and $499 for 128 GB.
How will the new iPhone SE 2 data differ from the characteristics of previous models?
Due to the 4-inch screen, one can assume that Apple is playing short. In the release of the iPhone SE, which appeared on the market in March 2016, the screen was the same size, but models 7, 8 and X were larger. On the other hand, the compactness of the new iPhone is an advantage for many buyers who do not like large devices. And the cost of SE 2 will be affordable.
In May 2017, the first leak occurred, which concerned the appearance of the product. According to a well-known insider, the iPhone SE 2 will have an aluminum body with slightly rounded corners. That is, it will be similar to the parent model SE (which, in turn, differs little from the 5s) only in size, and in design - to modifications of the iPhone 6/6s/7. Photos of the back panels of the phone were even published. If they are correct, then the device will be housed in a glossy black case - the same as the iPhone Seven.
There are literally a few days left before the expected release date, but people continue to argue about the appearance of the smartphone. Perhaps it will resemble the “parent” model with square edges, but with improved technical content. This version is likely: market experts believe that Apple does not have the funds to create a completely new device in a compact case.
An important technical difference between the new product and the previous SE model is the expected support for pressure technology on the 3D Touch display. The iPhone SE did not have this system to reduce the cost, but it has already appeared in the 6s version. The Home button was a feature of iPhones until recently, but it disappeared in the iPhone X. It is not expected in the new smartphone either. Same as the headphone port.
When will iPhone SE 2 appear in Ukraine?
There have been many speculations about the release date of the new device. It was registered in the EEC database in April, and its appearance was expected in the same month. For the iPhone SE 2, the release date was confusing: in recent years, all devices were presented to the public in September-October (except for the iPhone SE, which was presented in March). According to other sources, it was supposed to be announced in April 2018 at the Apple educational event in Chicago along with the new iPad. But this did not happen.
Another expected date for the presentation of the iPhone SE 2 is June 2018; an Apple developer conference called WWDC 2018 (Apple Worldwide Developers Conference) was planned for this month. The new product was not even mentioned at the event. The most final date is supposedly the first half of September; the phone can be presented along with the main iPhone line. According to rumors, the developers themselves reported this. So far there is no news about iPhone SE 2 (presentation or at least some official materials).
Should we expect the release of iPhone SE 2 in Ukraine, or can we buy another model for now? It depends on what the potential buyer likes. If the iPhone 6/6s/7 seems attractive, but a more compact body and budget price suit you, you can wait for the release of the new product. It is likely that there is very little left. They are already writing about the start of sales in November of this year. On the other hand, if you like the SE version, then it’s better to buy it and not wait: it costs less than the supposed SE 2.
In July, information surfaced that supposedly there was already a prototype, but Apple management abandoned the idea of releasing a budget smartphone. According to calculations, the costs invested in it will not be justified by the planned price. Therefore, the manufacturer will focus on 3 other new iPhone developments, which it promises to present in September. On the other hand, publications continue about the imminent appearance of the phone on sale, and we are still waiting for it. Some stores even put up pre-orders for the model. Be that as it may, the prices in our catalog for new Apple products will always be lower than those of others - don’t forget!
The Apple iPhone SE, released a couple of years ago, turned out to be a truly very successful product, especially in Russia, so many are still waiting for a continuation in the form of the iPhone SE 2. Alas, everything indicates that neither in 2018 nor later will the SE series receive continuation and will be limited to just one model.
The first argument against the release of Apple iPhone SE 2
Firstly, instead of the iPhone SE 2 at the presentation on September 12, the company presented the iPhone XR, which is a cheaper version of the flagship XS. Yes, the new budget Apple phone is strikingly different both in appearance and in characteristics, but it reflects a new view of what a smartphone should be.

Actually, it is this very view that is the “second” point. The fact is that in the spring of 2016, when the first iPhone SE appeared, the classic smartphone design still reigned supreme, when thick bezels around the screen were not a problem, and a hardware Home button was commonplace.
A lot has changed in two years. And these changes, apparently, led to the refusal to release the iPhone SE 2. Thus, “full-screen design” has firmly become fashionable, and smartphone manufacturers are constantly competing to see who can create a completely frameless “mobile phone.”
There is simply no place for the classic Apple iPhone SE 2 in this new reality. Even if it came to light, it would look like a kind of “dinosaur” against the background of other products, including those from the Cupertino team themselves. However, this factor is important, but it is not the most important.
Third argument
So, “thirdly”. iPhone SE 2, if it appeared, would cost at least one and a half times cheaper than the same iPhone XS. At the same time, there are a huge number of users of old classic iPhones like 5/5S/5C and even 4/4S. It is in Apple's interests to force them to upgrade to the latest models sooner or later.
And habit is a powerful thing. Even now, some manage to make the transition from the iPhone 5S to the SE, and not at all to the iPhone XS or at least the iPhone 8. Simply because they are accustomed to small smartphones with a small screen, which in our time have become very exotic among new products.
Some will think that this is not at all an argument in favor of refusing to release Apple iPhone SE 2 due to the fact that the company continues to release updates even for such “ancient” devices as the iPhone 5S released five years ago. If you think so, then you don't understand Apple's strategy.
So, Apple's strategy
The company needs support for older versions to ensure there is a large market for older iPhones. Thanks to this, into the “universe of them. Steve Jobs” involves a huge number of new participants who, due to their financial situation, cannot yet afford a new “apple”.
But one day he will be so involved in it that he will take out a loan and buy himself a new powerful iPhone. In general, Apple doesn’t care where exactly the buyer gets the money. Even if he sells a kidney, the company will only get additional “hype” from such stories.
So for the Cupertino residents it is definitely beneficial not to release the Apple iPhone SE 2. If you are still wondering when it will come out, then the answer is simple - never. So don’t expect the latest news, presentation, photos, or detailed specifications. All of this will be fake at best.
