About a year and a half ago, I came across a smartphone at a great price. This smartphone LG p500, this is one of the first smartphones on Android, which today is already significantly outdated, but thanks to some masters, both domestic and foreign, today this smartphone is getting a second wind. Craftsmen even new android 4 They hang it on this device. In short, I’ll tell you how I fought with this phone and what firmware I installed on it in the end.

A few words about android. To be honest, this operating system is not super stable and practical, especially older versions. Phones of such a price level as this LG perform extremely poorly, especially if the processor is 600 Mhz. But even this LG works much faster than the HTC Wildfire s (just for fun, I read reviews on Rozetka about this HTC and realized that 90% of the comments were written for money, sadness.) and it’s not just me who says this, two of my colleagues are also not very happy with this device, well, to put it mildly. Samsng somehow got around this problem; they put a processor with a frequency of 800 Mhz in the simplest models and everything works fine.

After purchasing the P500, I immediately installed the official firmware 2,3,3, this is the latest official version that is supported by this smartphone. This firmware didn’t stay on the phone for a long time; I wanted something hacked, overclocked, and super fast.

The first thing I installed was this firmware http://www.lg-p500.ru/2012/02/sunfire-l729s-by-snegovik.html, it is based on the same version of Android, so it is not a problem at all for this phone. To install custom firmware I had to do a lot of digging around the P500 website, but I managed to do it. The firmware is good, the phone works noticeably faster on it, the battery lasts a very long time, it worked for me for 4-5 days with little use. I had this firmware installed on my LG for a long time, after which I wanted something new and faster.

After installing the Sunfire firmware, I tried installing one of the Cyanogenmod 7 firmware builds, many wrote that it was not bad. But when I discovered glitches with the camera, the firmware was crashed! And I returned to Sunfire.

LG P500 and android 4

Quite recently I decided to try assembling for Android 4, and it turned out that there are some that are not even bad, I don’t remember which one I had.

What was wrong?

  • The sd card kept falling out
  • applications were glitchy (they just wouldn’t open),
  • The battery worked at best for three days, in short almost 2 times less.

Stable and fast firmware for LG p500! Where did I stop?

What did I install today? Today I settled on the new firmware, but based on the old Android 2,3,3. Link to this miracle. On the plus side: everything works, it works quickly, the battery lasts a long time. One minor drawback: the interface is not fancy, but with such performance it’s a trifle. By the way, after installing this firmware I was puzzled by something. My favorite Power AMP player just didn't work. As I wrote a little higher, EVERYTHING WORKS! But since I bought the player for 40 UAH. and he's really good, I fixed everything. A couple of hours on Google yielded no results. But users of the site kibra.ru helped, in the chat they threw a link to the forum with an answer. For those who have a similar problem, I will describe the solution to the problem. Power amp does not work due to Beats Audio (this is a special driver for sound, it makes the sound surround and bassy), so this Beats Audio needs to be neutralized. This can be done by replacing the /system/lib/libaudioeffect_jni.so file with the same one from the standard firmware. To replace system files, use Root Explorer.

By the way, in order for the phone to work for a long time on a single battery charge after flashing, be sure to calibrate the battery; this can be done using the battery calibration application. After calibration, the battery lasts a very long time from the second charge, at the moment second day of using the phone(not active: a little player, infrequent calls) the sensor shows the balance 83% .

This concludes the post, if you have any questions about the text presented, please ask.

For those who are looking for a famous university for themselves or their children, I recommend reading here http://planeta-tour.ru/strany/shvejcarija/obuchenie-v-shvejcarii/ about private schools in Switzerland, here every child can get an education himself of the highest level, as well as to ensure an interesting, successful future for yourself, the main thing is not to be lazy.

Everything does not stand still, in fact, I decided to try installing newer firmware. If you want an android 4 interface and stability 2.33, I recommend the INFUSION ROM 2.0 firmware by Troyx.

LG Optimus One P500 is one of the best smartphones in the budget category. Its support has long ended, and the owners of the device have not received an update to the Android operating system to the fourth version. But there are a large number of unofficial firmwares that will update the functionality and design of your OS.

In addition, it is not necessary to upgrade to the “heavy” four, you can stay on the second version, but unofficial firmware includes “root” rights, software bug fixes, memory optimization and much more. There are even firmwares with a modified interface for convenience and beauty, like MiUi.

We'll tell you how to reflash your Optimus One. After a difficult (at first glance) and long process, you can change the firmware even every day, in just a couple of minutes, without any additional programs or complex settings. But now a number of actions need to be taken. Let's start in order.

Files that we will be needed can be downloaded from link.

Getting root rights on LG P500

First, you need to install the drivers from the disk included with the LG P500 and Android SDK (sometimes this is not required). Next, on your smartphone go to “Settings”, open Applications / Development / USB Debugging and check the box, connect the phone to the PC, then turn it off and uncheck the same box.

We need this mode to be used at least once, but during the process of obtaining root access, the mode must be turned off. The preparatory stage is completed. Now you need to download the program SuperOneClick, launch it and see this window:

We connect the smartphone to the PC, but do not enable the SD card mounting mode. Press the button " Root" When the program displays the message “ Waiting for Device", check the USB Debugging checkbox again and wait. Now the app will show " Starting ADB Server..." Disable USB debugging, then turn it on and off again. This must be done before the message “ Waiting for device..." Now we have root rights, we disconnect the device from the PC.

Installing Custom Recovery on LG P500

Now we need to download and install the ROM Manager application on our smartphone. You can find it on Google Play. Next we carry out all the steps:

  1. Select ClockworkMod Recovery in the top section “Install or update recovery”.
  2. We select the LG P500 device, and the image begins to download.
  3. The device issues a request to SuperUser, check the box and accept the request.
  4. Custom Recovery is installed.

Installing firmware via Custom Recovery

We connect the smartphone like a flash drive to the computer. We put the file with the firmware in the form of an archive onto the memory card.

Go to Custom Recovery. To enter Recovery: hold down and do not release until the Recovery button appears: Home + Volume down + Power on. Or a simpler option - launch ROM Manager and select the second item from the top: Load Recovery Mode.

Recovery Management:

“Volume up/down” - Up/Down;

“Back” - back;

“Search” is a choice.

We go to the Wipe section and apply all the points in turn. Then, go to the “Flash ZIP from SDcard” item, select “Choose ZIP” there and find our firmware file. If during the firmware installation we receive a verification error, then in the same menu we need to disable signature verification.

Now, to flash any firmware you can use Costum Recovery. There is no need to get root and flash Recovery every time, you just need to upload the firmware file to the memory card and reboot the device in this mode, and then run the firmware.

If, after starting the smartphone with new firmware, the LG P500 does not receive communication, then you need to update the version of the radio module “drivers”. To do this, flash the OldBaseBand.zip file. If it doesn't help, try the second archive - NewBaseBand.zip. And don’t forget to charge your smartphone before you start flashing it.

The device is definitely successful in all respects and the price niche “up to 6,000 rubles” makes it very attractive both for ordinary users and for “big-headed” enthusiasts of “romodels”.

Actually, just because of this it’s worth taking a closer look at it.

In which case, most questions already have a lot of answers because you are not the owner of a “shovel” for 30,000 rubles. which relatively few people bought. You are one of the huge number of “thrifty” users who do not want to overpay for brands/trends and features that it is not clear why marketers crammed into the phone in the first place.

And so they brought it, took it out of the box, turned it on and checked if everything was in order (you can test it for a couple of days and discharge/charge the battery in one day).

  • Why did the manufacturer “stuff” so much unnecessary garbage into my phone? I don’t want to use all sorts of “VKontakte”, “Odnoklassniki”, “mail agents”, “Yandex cards”. How can I remove all this?

  • When purchasing, I did not have the latest firmware version, how can I update to version X.X.X?

  • I installed various software from the “market” and not only - now everything is stupid, glitchy, and money disappears from the account. I delete everything I installed using standard methods, but it doesn’t help. So what's now?

  • I heard it is possible to install alternative firmware - where to get them and how to flash them.
  • That's how it was for me.

It’s worth saying that the device was purchased with my own money (not someone’s gift). And everything that I do and will do in the future with my “copy” is my own initiative. I do everything consciously with the understanding that there is always the opportunity to get a “brick”. And it will not be the fault of the “manufacturer” of the phone / software / or resource from where I download / install / flash all this. That is, everything described below is “unofficial” methods and utilities. Everything is done at your own peril and risk.

Before the purchase, I already knew what I was going to do and what I was risking. You are ready? Think about it.

All the software used was collected from various resources, tested on my LG Optimus One (P500) phone and is posted here for personal convenience.

To begin with, let's define a few common terms and abbreviations - what is what. (Often found on forums) and for the uninitiated user it is like “bird language”.

"Hard Reset" - Full software reset - abbreviation "XP" or "HR". Entering the mode: Hold the keys for about 10s. All user-installed software / contacts / logs / settings are deleted / all changes are canceled. Full system rollback to factory state by overwriting recovery data from a hidden area of the phone's memory. - do without a SIM card and memory card in the phone . Applicable: Before and after flashing (by any means) MANDATORY. - When “permanent” software glitches appear - Before selling - This is also the most common answer to the question what to do?.(Seven troubles - One "hard reset") "Emergency mod" - Emergency mode. - abbreviation "EM" or "Yellow Screen" - Entering the mode: - Hold the keys - "Back button" + "Volume up" + "Power" This is often the result of an error(s) when updating with the official LG utility. It’s not fatal and you can even say that it’s “very good” as long as there is an “EM” phone that is not a “brick”. - In this mode, you must NOT remove the battery under ANY EVENT. There is a high probability that the bootblock will be lost - the phone is waiting for it to be overwritten. Applicable: For flashing utility KDZ MANDATORY. - After an unsuccessful official update, the only way to “revive” the phone. Do it without a SIM card and memory card in your phone "KDZ" - Unofficial flasher. - "KDZ_FW_UPD.exe" - This program is designed to flash the device with *.kdz files. It is in this format that the official firmware for our device is supplied. Compared to the official firmware program (LG Mobile Support Tool) KDZ_FW_UPD.exe has the following capabilities:

    1. Ability to downgrade (dawngrade - ability to install an earlier firmware version). Why is this necessary: new versions of firmware have a higher degree of security and, in order to hack them, it is sometimes easier to flash the old version of the firmware, and then flash the already hacked new one.

    2. Ability to restore the phone in case of problems with the firmware (especially important if the Recovery Menu is not installed).

    3. The ability to return the phone to its original condition so that you can use the warranty. "Root" - Superuser - "Root rights" or "Root". A special account in UNIX-like systems with an identifier (UID, User IDentifier) 0, the owner of which has the right to perform all operations without exception. In this case, obtaining superuser rights is considered a “hacking” of the branded version of the Android OS from LG, and if you contact the service with a “rooted” phone, you will lose the warranty. Root is completely erased without traces after flashing the device with the KDZ utility "factory firmware" - the guarantee remains accordingly. Applicable: After flashing (by any method) . To optimize the factory firmware Removing "junk software" - To install and use certain applications - This is also the only way clean/replace/update(some system applications) are not available in normal mode. "Custom Recovery Menu" - This is a special program that includes a package of very popular utilities. Entering mode: Hold the keys - "Home" + "Volume Down" + "Power" approximately 10 seconds When installing, Custom Recovery Menu replaces the standard program for performing a full reset (Hard Reset); accordingly, it is called in exactly the same way.
After installing Custom Recovery Menu, it is not recommended to use the menu item "Settings -> Privacy -> Reset settings".
Applicable: It is a must-have program, especially if you plan on frequent flashing.

    1. Allows you to flash the device with files in *.ZIP format. In this format, firmware can be distributed either entirely or in separate parts (kernels, fixes, patches, themes, boot animations, etc., etc.).

    2. The program works even if the firmware is damaged (for example, after flashing a non-working patch or kernel). Using the Custom Recovery Menu, you can always flash the firmware again and get a working device.

    3. Allows you to make a full system backup. You can experiment with the system as much as you like, and then return everything to its original state in a matter of seconds.

    4. Allows you to format the SD card.

    5. Allows you to connect your phone in card reader mode (even if the firmware is damaged).

At the initial stage of experiments with firmware, this information is comprehensive - we move from theory to practice.

Let's start with the simplest and most useful "Updating firmware from version 2.2.X to version 2.3.X" we will do this using the KDZ utility.

Because recently there have been more frequent cases of “bricking” during official updates via the Internet - what and why is LG keeping silent... Having collected statistical data, I came to the conclusion that there is a chance to flash it successfully but......50/50. Moreover, from a technical point of view, the official method is not “completely clean” since data and tails from the old firmware remain and they say the contacts are not even overwritten. I don’t know how this happened - perhaps the new one just “rolls” on top of the old one, similar to Windows XP, this has never led to anything good. As in the official LG service center, when applying to update the firmware, no one uses the method described on the technical support website for users. Connect the programmer eliminating the “brick” by 99.9% and off you go.

All existing official firmware for LG Optimus One P500.

    Latest (newest) firmware version:

Now a shortcut has appeared on the desktop.

And also the system tray has about a clock for quick startup.

If suddenly for some reason the auto-installation does not start, then everything can be started manually from the folder in the “root” of the C:\LGP500\USB_Driver drive - the B2CAppSetup.exe utility downloads and saves everything there automatically.

A program for removing both system applications and ordinary ones installed by the user. It has a very simple interface and can significantly save your time when cleaning your phone. The program also allows you to create Backup applications. Titanium Backup 1371

If you need to back up all the applications on your Android phone or tablet, including system programs, save all WiFi and mobile network settings, and then restore your phone or tablet to its original state, no program will do the job better.

    Custom Recovery

Custom Recovery on the Android platform, this is a technology for creating an image (restore point) of the Android operating system using special, possibly third-party software for these purposes. Usually Custom Recovery performed before performing any actions with a phone on the Android platform that could lead to loss of system functionality (failure, crash), for example, during a receiving operation root rights(superuser) for the system (by default, root rights on LG Optimus One are disabled). Using the previously created image, which we obtained using Custom Recovery, you can restore the phone system to the state and date when you created the system image.

*system - Saves the /system directory.

    *data- Saves the /data directory.

*cache - Saving the /system directory.

*recovery - Saving the memory block in which this menu is installed

*sd-ext - Saving an additional partition on a flash drive.

*.android_secure - Saving the /.android_secure directory (the system transfers installed programs here). This point should be used if you want to experiment with firmware (the version of which is different from the one you have installed) using the same SD card.

To start backing up selected items, click the menu item called “Perform Backup”.

All copies are created in the "nandroid" folder on the SD card. The number of copies is unlimited. The name is created based on the current time.

Wipe- menu dedicated to file destruction.

->Wipe ALL data/factory reset - performs the functions of a standard program for completely resetting the device (Hard Reset). Erases all user data, including programs installed on the SD card.

->Wipe /data - erases the contents of the "/data" folder.

->Wipe cache - erases the contents of the "/cache" folder.

->Wipe /sdcard/.adnroid_secure - deletes all data from the ".adnroid_secure" folder - this folder stores programs transferred to the SD card using standard operating system tools.

->Wipe /sd-ext - deletes all data from the additional partition of the SD card.

->Wipe Dalvik-cache - deletes the entire cache created by the Dalvik virtual machine.

->Wipe battery stats - deletes battery usage statistics, resets battery calibration.

->Wipe rotate settings - resets the calibration of the position sensor.

Partition sdcard- a menu dedicated to formatting the SD card and creating an additional partition.

->Partition SD - format the card, you will need to select the following options:

Ext2-size - the size of the additional partition with the "ext2" file system on the SD card.

->Repair SD:ext - restoration of an additional partition.

->SD: ext2 to ext3 - converting the file system of an additional partition from ext2 to ext3.

    ->SD: ext3 to ext4 - similar.

Now is the time to talk about why the additional section is needed. And it is needed in order to expand the internal memory of the device, which, by the way, is not much at all... In order for this to work, it is not enough to simply create this partition, the appropriate software must be installed on the phone that could use this partition. Usually such software is sewn into custom firmware; for such firmware to work normally, this additional section is required, otherwise the firmware will not work. Now a few words about the file system: the required file system (ext2, ext3, ext4) is determined by the firmware and software, in most cases it is ext3 or ext4...

Mounts- a menu that opens access to certain directories through the terminal.

    ->Mount /system - opens access to the "/system" folder.

    ->Unmount /cache - closes access to the "/cache" folder.

    ->Mount /data - opens access to the "/data" folder.

->Mount /sd-ext - opens access to an additional partition of the SD card.

->Mount /sdcard - opens access to the main partition of the SD card.

Other - menu of additional functions.

->Fix apk uid mismatches - checks whether applications are installed correctly.

->Move recovery.log to SD - writes a log of the Custom Recovery Menu to the SD card.

->Debugging Test Key Codes - checking the functionality of hardware keys.

->Wipe Sdcard - cleaning the SD card (analogous to quick formatting in Windows).

    Conclusion.

Everything described above was done personally on my own phone - all methods work 100%, the main thing is to read the instructions carefully.

On my own behalf, I just want to add that after all the experiments, I myself use version 2.2.1 (V10G), got root and deleted the garbage. I consider this version to be the most stable (I tried everything from V20C to V20E).

Regarding "Alternative" firmware - almost all of them are flashed through Custom Recovery The main thing is to keep track of the versions of what you are flashing from (not all yoghurts are equally healthy). And where to look for them?

    Not a big important addition:

If you are initially a person “not at ease” with “alternative” firmware, if you update or downgrade the official version you know for sure that you won’t stop there, I recommend that you immediately think about buying this wonderful device - yes, it’s an extra expense, but with it you will simply have nothing to fear .

Most of the points given below are quite banal, but if you are going to flash the P500 via KDZ (an unofficial flasher) in the future, I advise you to take a look there.

    Story

I have had LG Optimus One since February of this year. For the first time it was flashed (by the official updater) immediately after purchase, about a week later Root and Custom Recovery were received, I looked at several custom firmware for six months, there were no serious problems. The problems started when Android 2.3.3 came out. It cannot be installed via Custom Recovery; trying to work via the official updater seemed like a bad idea to me due to the fact that custom firmware was installed, and I decided to flash the phone using KDZ.

The first “brick” is entirely on my conscience - it was late at night, I was full of self-confidence (before everything was flashed perfectly) and after the first unsuccessful firmware I thought that I should remove the SIM card from the phone. Which is under the battery. Epic Fail. :) Naturally, the phone did not turn on again - with the bootloader worn out, it does not show any signs of life at all.

I’m not proud of this action, but I took the phone to the seller (a store of a large retail chain) and they accepted it for warranty repair, which took a month and a half. The phone returned from repair with a different serial number (which suggests that the entire motherboard was replaced), but, unfortunately, still on the old Android 2.2.1. This categorically did not suit me, and I decided (in vain, in vain!) to complete the work begun before the renovation.

I think my main mistake was that the firmware was installed from the same laptop on which the first brick was received. She failed again. After a certain number of attempts, I decided to continue working on another computer. And there, after installing the phone drivers and rebooting the computer (the phone remained connected via USB), it no longer defined. All subsequent attempts to launch the update ended with a message that the phone was not detected, i.e., despite the fact that it was in Emergency Mode, it was impossible to reach it. After removing the battery, of course, the phone would not turn on at all. Game Over.

    conclusions

    1. Don't be an optimist

Many are accustomed to not delving too deeply into the instructions, pressing all the buttons in a row and hoping for the best. No need. Programs for installing firmware (both official flasher and unofficial) are very crooked and buggy, so you shouldn’t hope that they will forgive your mistakes.

    2. Take your time

Download all the necessary software in advance. Install everything you need on your computer - drivers, additional libraries, etc. Fully charge your phone battery. Read the instructions for installing the update carefully (and not diagonally), look at the comments of users who used it, pay special attention to messages about problems (the most popular, by the way, is that they forgot to turn off LG modems in their devices). Choose a convenient time so that you don’t have to be distracted by other things during the firmware installation process.

    3. Try to use the official updater

Yes, KDZ provides a little more options - for example, rolling back to an old firmware version, installing firmware designed for a different region. But with the official update, there is less chance of killing the phone “to death”, without the ability to boot even in Emergency Mode.

    4. Emergency Mode is serious. Very fucking serious, really.

This is in the instructions, do not repeat my mistake and remember - if something went wrong when installing the firmware in Emergency Mode, by turning off the phone (by removing the battery, otherwise it will not exit this mode) you will get a completely faulty and unrepairable device .
The exception is cases when the firmware process didn't start(for example, the phone was not detected normally in KDZ, which happens if you do not disable LG modems in the list of devices).

If the memory overwrite started and ended unsuccessfully, figure out what the problem is, eliminate its causes and re-flash the firmware. You shouldn’t give in to the temptation to watch “maybe it’s a good idea,” as you already understand. :)

Advice from me personally - if the firmware was unsuccessful and you cannot determine why - try repeating the procedure from another computer, carefully and carefully, following each step of the instructions. It is better to prepare a spare computer in advance.

What to do if it’s still a “brick”

Until recently, there was only one solution - an official service center and replacement of the system board. If you managed to convince the seller that you didn’t do anything and the case was under warranty, your (real) karma suffered; if you failed, your wallet, and quite seriously, for 4-5 thousand rubles. Today you can try contacting specialists who use RIFF Box - a contraption that allows you to upload firmware by connecting directly to the pins of elements on the motherboard. By the way, if any of the habrausers are familiar with such a thing, I will be very grateful for your help (including financially).

Be careful and careful. Happy firmware everyone.
