Many users do not know how to flash a Samsung Galaxy phone and think that it is difficult. You just need to use Odin Mobile and carefully follow our instructions.

Here we go!

Preparing for firmware

In this article we will talk about how to flash a Samsung Galaxy. Before proceeding directly to the methods, let's consider what you should have before starting any procedures. Here's what you need to have:

  • Samsung Galaxy phone with battery, charged at least 80% (otherwise an unexpected failure may occur);
  • USB to microUSB cable, which is used to connect to a computer and other devices with a USB port (it is better that it is original, that is, the one that was included with the device itself);
  • unlimited and high-speed (minimum 5 Mbit/s) Internet connection(in case you need to download the same firmware or other auxiliary files);
  • a computer with the same fast and unlimited traffic Internet connection(we will consider methods that do and do not involve its use);
  • ready-made file with firmware in .zip or .tar format(in the instructions we will assume that you have already downloaded the firmware and you do not need to find it).

Be very careful when downloading firmware on the Internet. They may contain, both for the phone and for the computer, be of poor quality (they will be very buggy) or even permanently turn your device into a brick. Therefore, read reviews, look for links only on trusted sites and think 100 times before downloading custom firmware on the Internet!

Please also note that the items listed above ( telephone and cable), initially lie separately from each other. You should not connect the device to the computer before performing all the procedures, you should not launch any mode or do anything at all. We will describe everything in detail in the instructions!

It's not an easy task, but it's quite doable.

Also, immediately prepare yourself for the fact that you may not succeed at something the first time. Firmware is a very difficult matter, and even the step-by-step instructions given below do not imply that everything will be exactly the same for you.

So be patient and let's get started!

Method number 1. Install the firmware using the official Samsung method

Custom recovery

If you have a custom recovery (maybe you didn't even know about it), things will look a little different. Here's a guide that might work for you:

  • Enter recovery mode exactly the same as in the instructions above. It’s worth clarifying that if you don’t have a button, press the same combinations, but without it.
  • Next on the menu go to the “Wipe” section. Here, as in standard recovery, this is done using the volume and screen lock or power buttons (one of them is responsible for selecting an option). Although in some cases the touch screen also works, so you can press the buttons more freely.
  • After that open the “Advanced Wipe” subsection and check the boxes next to options such as "Dalvik Cache", "System", "Data" And "Cache". You probably already realized that in this menu we clear the device’s memory, but without user files in the internal storage and on the card.

Cleaning your smartphone before installing the firmware

  • Below it says "Swipe to Wipe". This means that you need to move your finger or stylus from left to right at the bottom of the screen, in other words, swipe. Follow this step to begin cleaning.
  • After that you return to main menu custom recovery. Click on it "Install".
  • Now follows indicate the location of your firmware file. Ideally, it will be located in the root of the memory card or internal storage of the device. Then you won’t need to look for anything, but just go to internal storage or microSD.
  • Below there will be an opportunity again make a swipe to begin the installation process. Follow this simple step.

Selecting the firmware file and starting its installation

  • Now all that remains is to wait for the system to complete the task assigned to it. To exit recovery, select the item in the main menu "Reboot Now". All is ready!

It seems there is nothing complicated about it!

Method No. 3. We use Odin Mobile

You can also do without a computer if you use a special program. Acceptable formats for Odin Mobile are .tar and .tar.md5.

Once the software is downloaded and installed, do this:

"Open file..." in Odin Mobile

Step 1. In the start menu, select “Open file...”.

Selecting firmware in the program

Step 2. If the program can immediately detect the firmware in the file system, it will be displayed on the next screen. But if this is not the case, use the “Folders” block to select the folder where the file is located.

Step 3. Tap also "Flash firmware". This item means checking the selected firmware.

If something doesn’t work out, you need to use one of these options (or better yet, all of them):

"Clear all" on the main screen

Return to the home screen and tap "Clear all". Then all and other data will be erased. Perhaps it is this kind of garbage that interferes with the installation of the firmware.

Root and cache settings

In the "Everroot" block check the boxes“Enable EverRoot”, “Inject Superuser”, “Inject Mobile ODIN”, and in the “Wipe” block - “Wipe data and cache” and “Wipe Dalvik cache”.

As you probably understood, we gave our device superuser rights (aka root) and cleared out the garbage.

Odin for computer

There is also a version Odin for computer. Moreover, it is official. What was discussed above is also, in a sense, custom software. Therefore, you can complete the task using a PC/laptop and a USB cable. Step by step it looks like this:

  • Download the program from the official website odindownload.com and install it. This process is also standard.
  • Now you need to enter the smartphone into download mode. For this, a combination of the power button, button "Home" and volume down keys - all this must be pressed simultaneously with the device turned on. The gadget will turn off and a message will appear. When this happens, press the Volume Up key. You will see that the phone is in download mode.
  • Connect it to your computer using a USB cable.
  • Launch the Odin program. In the window that appears, click "PDA".
  • Then a window will open as shown in the screenshot below. First you need click "Open Package" in the lower right corner of the program window and indicate where the firmware file that you will install is located.
  • Then check the boxes "One Package"(one source file), "Auto Reboot"(automatic reboot after successful installation) and "Protect OPS"(failure protection). All this is located in the “Options” block in the upper left corner of Odin.
  • Next click the button "Start" to begin the installation process. In the block "Message" you will be able to observe how the assigned task is performed.

Working with Odin for PC

Since you checked the options "Auto Reboot", the device will automatically reboot and will be immediately ready for use.

Typically, users use these three methods to flash Samsung. But there are others, more extraordinary.

Results

So, we have looked at all the currently used methods for flashing a Samsung Galaxy. If something doesn’t work out for you, the reason may lie in the following:

  1. Some firmware requires an installed application Google Apps or simply Gapps. It can also be downloaded on the Internet and usually information about this is on the same page where you download the firmware itself. That is, the author of the post writes that Gapps is needed for installation and provides a link. The application is provided in gapps.zip format and is installed in the same way as firmware. But Google Apps is installed first, and only then the firmware.

2. If you use a computer, it may have outdated or incorrect smartphone drivers installed. You can download them from samsung.com. Install and try again. There are also instructions for using drivers.

3. During the flashing process, you may have disconnected the battery, USB cable, turned off your smartphone or computer, or used the device in some non-standard way. Under no circumstances should this be done. Follow the instructions.

Write in the comments how you managed to flash your Samsung Galaxy.

Firmware via Odin main rules

You need to know that you should never flash Samsung using Kies or Smart Switch programs, the reason is this:

  1. Not fully downloaded firmware from the Samsung server.
  2. Poor-quality Android firmware files, due to which the device is regularly restarted (the /data partition is not deleted).
  3. Flash your smartphone exclusively with Odin
  4. Be sure to flash with at least 50% battery charge and stable power supply to the PC.
  5. Do not pull the USB cable while flashing the smartphone.
  6. You need a branded and undamaged USB cable.
  7. It is important to use only the original USB cable that came with the device. Using low-quality wires, you risk turning your smartphone into a brick.
  8. The path to the firmware must be without Russian letters (C: folder - not correct, C: or C: samsung - correct).

What to do if your smartphone freezes and does not boot after flashing?

If an error occurs or Samsung stagnates at an eternal boot when the firmware was flashed via Odin, you need to do a hard reset or otherwise called WIPE, if you provided Root or installed custom firmware, the electricity went out, then you will need advice on how to restore Samsung after unsuccessful firmware.

The main troubles that arise at the flashing stage:

  1. Odin does not recognize the device
  2. Stuck at loading stage
  3. Crash at the stage when flashing the firmware using Odin
  4. Sudden break
  5. Failure to start updating your smartphone

To understand the malfunction of the Odin program, your PC and Samsung, you will need this guide - Main errors at the stage of flashing Samsung.

How to flash kernels (boot.img, zImage), Recovery files or modems

How to flash a modem

If you need to flash the modem, then load the modem file in the CP (Phone) line in the Odin program and start the flashing process.

How to flash the kernel or Recovery

Flashing using Odin third-party kernels or Recovery with Android 5.X.X and higher installed requires changing some parameters in the Android settings:

Activate "USB Debugging" in the same tab, activate "OEM Unlocking"

Turn off" Remote control"Samsung. Flash the kernel, Kernel or CWM means that the file must be loaded into the AP or PDA field and then flashed.

Possible errors during the Recovery installation stage

In case, after flashing custom Recovery, it remains the usual factory one, then look at what you can do:

  1. Uncheck this box Auto Reboot in the Odin program.
  2. Try flashing custom Recovery again.
  3. Turn off your Android device.
  4. Turn on Recovery mode (if the smartphone starts to boot in normal mode, repeat the process a couple of times).
  5. Use the patch (root rights).

We continue the topic of experimenting with my new phone. From the experience of using routers and other equipment, I have developed a strong habit - first of all, update their “brains”. The thing is that from the moment the device leaves the factory until it falls into your hands, more than one month may pass, and during this time its firmware could undergo significant changes and open up wider possibilities for use for the user. And today we will clearly check how to flash a Samsung phone on Android 4.4 and how safe is it to do it yourself?

Ways to flash a Samsung phone on Android 4.4

There are several ways to flash an Android phone. The first is directly from him through the system. My Samsung was running Android 4.4, and if you go to “Settings > Phone Information > Software Update,” you can configure it to automatically check for new firmware for your model. To do this, check the “Auto-update” box. I also recommend activating the “Wi-Fi Only” option; in this case, the presence of a new version will be checked only when the phone is connected to a wireless network, otherwise it will constantly waste your mobile traffic through the cellular operator, which is fraught with loss of money.

The scan can be started manually by clicking on “Update”.

Flashing a Samsung phone on Android, like any other, can only be started with a 100% charged battery

However, this option for updating the Samsung Galaxy firmware is not entirely convenient and can fail in the middle, as happened to me. Therefore, I recommend performing this task using a special program installed on a computer and with a phone connected to it via a USB cable.

There are also variations here - you can do it using the official Samsung Kies program, or you can use the popular Odin or its equivalent. In the latter case, it is possible to use both official firmware for Samsung phones on Android, and from third-party developers, which are often more convenient and open up wider possibilities for the phone, but it will not be covered by the factory warranty. Therefore, it is recommended to install third-party firmware only after the warranty period has expired.

How to officially flash a Samsung phone on Android?

So, let's start figuring out how to flash Android using the Samsung update as an example, and turn to the Samsung Kies program, which can be downloaded here. By the way, it was created by analogy with Apple's iTunes and with its help you can completely synchronize your phone with your PC - contacts, files, music, etc.

Before you start updating the Samsung firmware to a new Android, it is recommended to make a backup copy using your phone or via Kies to avoid possible data loss

First we install the program. At the same time, drivers for all kinds of devices from this company will be added to the computer, including yours. We launch it, connect the phone to the computer via USB and wait until it is recognized.
Next, after a window opens with all the basic data about your phone, select “Firmware update” and if it is available, this will be reported in an additional window that opens.

Click the “Update” button, agree to the rules and confirm our desire. And we wait for the end.. Do not touch the phone during this time and under no circumstances disconnect it from the cable from the computer. By the way, I don’t recommend leaving for a long time either, since your antivirus or firewall may crash a couple of times, in which you will need to allow Kies to perform its functions. Also disable the antivirus on the mobile phone itself, otherwise it will not allow the system to update.

As a result, we get this and confirm the end of the software update.

Updating Android Firmware on Samsung Phone via Odin

Now let's turn to the “gray” firmware. I suggest you watch the step-by-step video first, and then we’ll continue.

First of all, you need to put the phone into download mode (“Downloading”), which is done by simultaneously pressing the “Home”, “Power” and “Volume minus” (or “Volume plus” depending on the model) key combination. If done correctly, the Android logo and an inscription about boot mode will appear on the screen.

Next, download and install the Odin MultiDownloader program (you can easily find it on any thematic website or Google it in a search engine) - this is a professional program intended for service centers, so you don’t have to be scared, if you do everything correctly in it, then nothing bad will happen to your phone.

And you will also need the firmware files that you downloaded from the official website or any third-party firmware support forum. As a rule, there are four of them - PDA, the main firmware file; PHONE, which is responsible for working with the cellular operator’s network; CSC – phone settings; and PIT – service information storage. Make sure they are all included in the set. However, there are also single-file versions, in which case it will need to be imported in place of the main one - PDA.

If you are working on a computer with Windows 7 or higher installed, then this will be enough. If you have XP, then you will also have to install the Kies program that we have already disassembled, which will install drivers for your Android phone on Windows, or separately the drivers themselves - Samsung USB Driver for Mobile Phones. On the same site you can also select firewood specifically for your model and version of the computer OS.

Now you must first of all kill all Kies processes if you installed and launched it. To do this, press the key combination Ctrl+Alt+Del on your computer and look for processes that have the word “Kies” in their names. And we complete them. Then we launch Odin - our smartphone is already in download mode - connect it via a USB cable and press the “Volume Up” button (in relation to the Samsung Galaxy S2).

Now you can start updating the software.

In the Odin program, one (first) ID:COM section should be displayed in yellow (there are several of them for simultaneous work with several phones). In the program, check the boxes for “Re-Partition”, “Autoreboot” and “F.Reset Time”.

Now press the “Start” button and wait for the process to complete until the process graph reaches the end, lights up green and the word “Pass” appears.

After this, the phone will reboot and start working on the new software version. Additionally, you can use the *#1234# command to check the current version. You can also completely clear all data using the service code *2767*3855#.

This completes the firmware for a Samsung phone based on Android OS, thank you all for your attention!

Before flashing the SAMSUNG GT-S5230, I will tell you a little about this device. I have come across only three varieties of GT-S5230 - the basic model, GT-S5230W - with a WI-FI module and GT-S5230 LaFleur (no comments here).

This cell phone was launched into the market as a workhorse with a budget touch screen. In its segment, this is one of the cheapest devices from Koreans (SAMSUNG) and quite popular (it is still on display at retailers). From the perspective of the average person, the phone is very easy to use, intuitive, and on average the battery lasts for two days of intensive use.

If this model is handled correctly and carefully, it will not be demolished, but sooner or later the touch panel will fail due to its cheapness. Although in fairness, it changes in five minutes and even a child can cope with this task, all you need is a cross-type screwdriver, a picker and straight hands growing from the right place. The quality of communication is at a decent level.

There were no serious problems when using this app, only the quiet speaker was very annoying, the call could not always be heard, especially when the phone was in a jeans pocket. Once a software error occurred (BOOT crashed) due to which the app stopped loading, but this did not become a serious problem. So let's get started already.

ATTENTION!!! Before starting software updates, rooting, resetting settings and other manipulations with your own or, God forbid, someone else’s device HIGHLY RECOMMEND read this one. In short, you have been warned and don’t say later that this is the first time you’ve heard this.

What you need to flash SAMSUNG GT-S5230

Naturally the phone itself

The most important thing here is to check the system connector; if it is damaged, or traces of corrosion are visible (after liquid ingress - a very common case), or it is simply dirty (try cleaning it with a regular toothbrush), then most likely the phone will not be detected by the computer and it will not be possible to change the software. If the app does not show signs of life (does not respond to the power button, does not enter boot mode when the battery is charged), then you should not try to flash such a phone, since the reason for its inoperability is not in the software.

Charged battery

When flashing the firmware, the battery must be charged at least 50%; if the battery is discharged during the process, you can kill the app and its functionality cannot be restored without special equipment.

Drivers

In order for the phone to be identified in the OS, you need to install New PC Studio. When installing this product, all the necessary drivers will be installed, and with the help of New PC Studio you can save all the necessary information from your phone to your PC and back. You can download the latest version of this software completely free of charge from the official SAMSUNG website. Or try installing this one.

Cable

The necessary cable for changing the software is included with the phone itself.

Firmware updates

We download, completely free of charge, from the official website of SAMSUNG a program called New PC Studio. We need it in order to install the necessary drivers on the computer - otherwise the phone will not be detected and we will not be able to flash it. Also, with the help of this program you can make backup copies of contacts, photos, etc.

Step 1: Launch the installation of New PC Studio

Step 2: The installation preparation process has started

Step 3: Select the required language from the list and click the “Next” button

Step 4: Accept the license terms and click “Next”

Step 5: The installation process will start

Step 6: Installation completed. Click the “Finish” button

Step 7: Running program.

So we installed the drivers we needed. You can safely close this program. We won't need her anymore. If you need to save information from your phone, then figure out how to use Samsung New PC Studio yourself - it’s very simple. Give it a try. Everything is intuitive, the interface is very friendly, there should be no problems.

Step 8: In the “Control” panel at the top, select BRCM2133

Step 9: Now we need to enter the phone into “DOWNLOAD” mode. To do this, you need to hold down the following buttons in turn - “volume down button” + “back (center) button” + “power button”

Step 10: Now you can connect your phone to your PC with a cable. After this, DOWNLOADER will determine which port the device is using (in my case, com297 ready). Next, click the “Port Search” button to determine the model connected to the PC. Now you can click the “Download” button
