In this article we will look at a rather ambiguous problem: there is a connection on the network, but in the browser it is impossible to go to some web resource. It’s true, sometimes a situation may arise in which the notification area will clearly indicate that the user has access to the Internet, i.e. there is no red cross or yellow exclamation mark on the connection icon, but the browser persistently tries to prove the opposite to it, producing various errors and notifications of problems.

Reading these lines, you have probably encountered this strange problem yourself. Luckily, there are a number of methods you can use to try to eliminate this problem. It is also worth noting that this problem can occur on absolutely all versions of the Windows operating system, connection types and browsers, so no one will be left behind. So, let's see what you can do if network access is observed, but the browser refuses to work.

Well, as we said at the very beginning of the article, the problem is extremely ambiguous - and there can be a huge number of reasons behind it. However, we recommend that you simply follow a series of several solutions that will probably be able to get you out of this not very clear situation. Let's see what you can do...

Change the network connection DNS server address

The very first thing to do is try using a different DNS server to see if the problem is with yours provided by your ISP. The thing is that sometimes the provider’s DNS server may experience some problems during its operation, as a result of which the connection to the network technically remains, but it becomes impossible to switch to any web resource. As a rule, providers solve such problems extremely quickly, however, you can check this probability simply by using the services of Google's public DNS servers.

How to do it? You just need to change the DNS server address for your network connection and you're good to go. This is done simply (the steps are carried out using the Windows 10 OS as an example, but you can use them for other versions of the system):

  • Right-click on the network connection icon in the notification area and select “Open Network and Internet Settings”;
  • then click on the option “Configure adapter parameters”;
  • Find your network connection (adapter) in the new window and double-click on it with the left mouse button to go to properties;
  • then click on the “Properties” button;
  • select “IP version 4” or “IP version 6” (depending on the type of your network connection) and click the “Properties” button;
  • check the box “Use the following DNS server addresses”;
  • enter your address 8.8.8.8. for main and 8.8.4.4. for an alternative DNS server;
  • save changes.

After changing your network connection settings, try logging into your browser and going to some web resource. As a rule, this problem still arises due to the provider’s DNS server being temporarily down, which, as you already know, can be easily bypassed.

Well, did you manage to fix the problem? If not, then let's move on. And then we have another solution that concerns DNS.

Clear the DNS cache on your computer

You may have lost the ability to access web resources through your browser due to a DNS cache that has accumulated on your system. This happens sometimes - and this problem is solved using a simple command entered in the system console.

So, to reset the DNS resolver cache, you need to do the following:

  • press the key combination Windows+X;
  • open the console and enter the command into it ipconfig/flushdns and press Enter;
  • wait until the command completes and close the console.

Open your browser and try to visit a website. If the result is zero, then try restarting the computer after executing the command, and then check the browser again. It didn’t help - we move on.

Disabling the proxy server in connection settings

Another reason why you might have difficulty navigating to various resources on the network is the activated function of using a proxy server for local connections. You may have activated this feature yourself, or perhaps some application on your system did it. One way or another, you need to check if it is enabled. To do this, do the following:

  • click Windows+S;
  • enter “Control Panel” into the search engine and select the found system element;
  • open the “Browser Options” section in the panel;
  • go to the “Connections” tab and click on the “Network Settings” button;
  • if there is a checkmark next to the option “Use a proxy server for local connections (does not apply to dial-up or VPN connections)”, then uncheck it and save the changes made;
  • restart your computer.

If for some reason you actually had this function activated, then after disabling it, open your browser and check if you can go to some page on the Internet.

Reset your network connection settings

Who knows, maybe something was changed in your network connection settings, after which you can no longer use it normally to access the Internet. Fortunately, you can easily reset these settings using a few commands. To apply them you need to do the following:

  • press the key combination Windows+X;
  • select “Command Prompt (Administrator)”;
  • Having opened the console, enter the following set of commands into it:
    • ipconfig /flushdns
    • ipconfig /registerdns
    • ipconfig /renew
    • ipconfig /release
  • Once you've finished entering commands, restart your computer.

Open your browser again and check if everything is in place. As a rule, by this point many users are able to fix the problem. However, if it didn’t work out for you, then we have one last piece of advice for you: use some kind of antivirus and scan your system for viruses. Yes, if you still haven’t been able to use your network connection normally, then most likely there is some kind of virus involved that has entered the system.

What to do if the Internet is working, but pages don’t load, sites don’t open, you can’t look at it, and you can’t write a term paper?

So that such a situation does not take you by surprise, this article was written!

Most likely, your Internet is connected either through a cable from or a wireless network.

We will look at possible solutions for each of these cases.

What does a connected internet look like?

First, let's figure out what the icons look like when the Internet is connected. Typically, the following icons appear on the lower right side of the screen:

In the form of a “Christmas tree”- if you are connected using a Wi-Fi network - i.e. without the use of fiber optic cables.

Second option- in the form of a computer - if connected via cable and telephone network.

If you have a connection using a router and cables

This connection method is more convenient for a home computer - you can only connect via . Of course, this can be circumvented by purchasing an external one - this will help avoid the sight of a lot of wires - but if for some reason you prefer this method, we will consider it in detail below.

Most likely your problem looks like this: when you connect the network cable that was sold with the router and your computer, the Internet does not appear.

If this is the case, first answer yourself a few questions:

  • does the Internet work on another computer using this cable and? Perhaps the problem is a malfunction of the components themselves - check on another computer - if the Internet also does not work, it is better to contact a service center under warranty.
  • Does the Internet connect to the computer when connected directly without using a router? This will also help determine that the root of the problem lies in a faulty router.
  • Is the light on the router blinking?
  • What does your PC show? These could be phrases like “the network cable is not connected” - i.e. the connection indicator does not change before and after connecting the cable; or continuous system identification may occur.

The desktop computer does not respond to connecting the LAN cable, “no connection to the network”

The situation is this: you connected a working cable to the computer and it does not respond to it and displays a message like in the photo:

In this case, we look for the problem in every link of the chain: in the cable, in the router, or in the personal computer/laptop.

You need to perform a few simple manipulations to install this:

  • make the same connection using a different cable (if the problem persists, it means your first cable was working);
  • then connect the router and the previously tested cable to another computer/laptop (if everything works, then the problem is in the network card of the personal computer/laptop. It is part of the package. If everything doesn’t start working on the other computer, then we’re looking for a problem in the router) ;

If after such simple manipulations you suspect that the problem is in the network card of your computer/laptop, don’t worry!

You don't have to buy a whole computer from scratch” - it will be enough just to replace the network card with a new one - the good news is that they are inexpensive.

You can clarify this problem if you go to the task manager of your personal computer\laptop in the network card section - If there is a malfunction, there will be an exclamation mark above it.

Just in case, check that your local network connection is enabled.

How to set this up, see the photo below:

Thus, we checked all components of the chain (router, cable, personal computer\laptop), most likely found and eliminated the causes of the malfunction - the Internet should appear.

Long-term network identification without Internet connection

Another difficulty often occurs: you connect the network cable to your PC/laptop, “network identification” is displayed - and the long-awaited Internet does not appear.

This is most likely due to IP (Internet Protocol) addresses. Or you previously had an IP address configured on your computer from an old connection - and you need to make a connection to the router with this IP, or a DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol - router system that helps automatically generate an IP address when connecting) router server - it does not can give you an IP address.

What to do?

At first- set automatic IP and DNS acquisition.

You can also define a static IP address, similar to what was described above.

In Fig. 11 in the “Properties: Internet Protocol” window you see the line “use the following IP address”.

Select it and write your IP. Please note - if your access is by address, then you can indicate, for example, the address 192.168.1.60 ; If 192.168.0.1 , then the address will be 192.168.0.60 , DNS can be like this: 8.8.8.8 And 8.8.4.4. and so on (these are examples for general presentation).

Yellow exclamation mark (connection and lack of access to the Internet).

What's on your screen:

This problem is due to incorrect router configuration.

Here you need to look in detail at setting up the router to work with the provider, setting a password, and specifying the provider’s settings.

First, determine what technology your router uses:

  • Dynamic IP
  • Static IP
  • PPTP/Russia PPTP
  • BigPond Cable
  • L2TP/Russia L2TP
  • PPTP/Russia PPTP

Usually you can choose the technology yourself - Additional parameters of the provider when connecting depend on this:

Look in the documents, on the provider’s website, or just call the support service. When calling, please clarify that you are setting up the Internet on a Wi-Fi router and want to clarify what type of network and settings to specify in the router.

There is a connection, but no surfing

This sad picture is probably familiar to many.

These screenshots were taken from different browsers- messages from different browsers may differ, but they usually write. that it is impossible to open the site, display the page, there is no Internet connection.

First of all, look at the Internet connection icon (on a computer - at the bottom right side of the screen).

There may also be a system message detailing the problem itself.

DNS problem.

Briefly about the DNS system. This is a program that converts our requests into digital addresses that the browser can understand for searching the Internet.

Accordingly, if this system does not work, the search itself will not be able to be carried out.

This could be a problem with the site itself (if other sites open normally and there are problems with only one).

To install this, enter any other site into the search query of your browser, or better yet, another browser and look.

This can be due to problems with the router - to fix this problem, you will try to dial the same site from other connected devices - for example, from a mobile phone. If the site doesn’t work from your phone either, it’s more likely a problem with the router. If the site opens from the phone, but not from the computer/laptop, then the problem is in the computer - see below how to solve it.

  • set startup to “automatic”

Then, right-click on the service again, and select "Restart". Restart your computer.

  • signs as in the photo (see Fig. 19).

This means there is no Internet connection. Step-by-step instruction:

  • reboot the router
  • Carry out a full scan of Windows networks (connection icon - right-click - troubleshooting - click).
  • Perhaps there is a problem with the provider. Call support
  • remember if you have recently installed any third-party programs
  • surf different sites from different web browsers - there is a chance that only one site will not load.
  • if the browser does not load pages - try changing DNS

Register DNS from Google: go to network connections (Win + R key command), click on the connection through which you are connected to the Internet and select “Properties”.

In the new window, highlight “IP version 4 (TCP/IPv4)” and click on the “Properties” button.

Reset network settings.

In Windows 10, this is done through the settings: Open “Start”, and go to “Settings” ↠ to the section "Network and Internet"↠ On the “Status” tab, click on “Network reset” ↠ Click on the button "Reset Now"↠ Confirm the reset by clicking “Yes”.

In , you can reset parameters using commands that are written on the command line on behalf of the administrator:

ipconfig /flushdns

ipconfig /registerdns

ipconfig /renew

ipconfig /release

Execute these commands one by one, and then restart the PC, if the result is the same - return to factory settings.

  • Scan your PC for viruses. You can download both free and paid ones online – and then scan your PC
  • If you had an antivirus program installed and scanning your PC did not detect the presence of malware, temporarily turn off the antivirus program; it could independently change some Internet access settings.

We tried to briefly describe the main problems of connecting to the Internet and ways to solve them.

Usually, all problems lie on the surface and can be identified independently without the participation of a specialist - this is exactly what our article serves.

There is often a situation where an unstable Internet prevents you from fully working on a PC, laptop or other devices that support a Wi-Fi module. There are several ways to solve this problem and make the connection uninterrupted, which will be discussed below. However, first you need to understand the reasons for network outages.

To affect network stability?

Let's go through the reasons that may affect the quality of the connection.

Provider and user equipment

If access to the Internet constantly disappears and is restored, the problem may be on the side of the provider - the intermediary between users and the network. That is, you first need to contact the service provider’s technical support and report any problems.

So, the company can replace a damaged cable, update equipment or carry out unscheduled repairs.

Also, the stability of the connection is affected by a break in the communication channel. For example, when connecting via ADSL/Dial-Up, a telephone line is used and you can check the functionality by the presence of beeps in the handset of your home telephone. If they are not there, then the connection is broken.

However, such a connection is rare today, since almost all providers have switched to fiber optic cable. Therefore, you need to check the twisted pair cable that connects to the router. The wire just needs to be connected to the PC network card. If the connector indicator is not green, but yellow or red, it may be broken somewhere.

To check whether the router and network card are working correctly, you need to open Device Manager. So, Windows 7 users can open the context menu on the “My Computer” icon, select “Properties” and click the “Device Manager” button. On XP, the tab is called "Hardware".

In the proposed list, all that remains is to find a network card or wireless module. Missing equipment indicates failure. If there is an exclamation mark on the icon, it does not work correctly.

Correctness of the entered settings

Basically, the network connection is configured once and there is no need to return to them. However, if the settings are incorrect, or the user has installed malware that affects the operation of the system, additional verification will be required. You need to check whether the data entered is correct.

Virus programs

There is often a situation where malware specifically blocks the connection. The user cannot open certain sites, download selected content, or access to the network is periodically blocked.

You can verify that an unstable connection is due to the influence of viruses in the “Safe Mode with Network Driver Support” mode. So, before loading Windows, you need to hold down F8 to select this mode.

If network interruptions disappear, the antivirus will help restore the full functioning of the Internet.

Watch a video about why the Internet slows down and crashes here:

Wireless connection problems

Restoring full access to the Internet via Ethernet is much easier than with Wi-Fi. The difficulty here lies in the fact that it is visually impossible to determine the cause, although the problem remains and the connection is periodically interrupted. Although this can be explained by the following factors:

  • Periodic shutdown of equipment. The router or access point is malfunctioning and reboots frequently. Therefore, the user’s Internet will disappear.
  • A sharp decrease in speed over the wireless channel. If the load on the network was previously high, with a sharp decrease in speed, the order of packet transmission changes. These changes take time and the Internet may stop working.
  • Reducing the signal level. As a result, such a situation turns out to be unpleasant for the user - perhaps the laptop will not be able to connect to the wireless network or will not see it at all. Or it will only be able to work if the router is located nearby.

Why does the Internet turn off through the router? Watch the following video:

How to get rid of interruptions?

What to do if the router works intermittently? Here are some recommendations.

Restarting a network device

If the Internet is intermittent, the first thing you need to do is restart your network router. This is done in this order:

  1. The computer and router are disconnected from power.
  2. The router starts up.
  3. The computer starts.

It should be borne in mind that this procedure is often enough to establish Internet stability. However, if the problem reappears after a while, you can move on to the next solution.

Changing the communication channel

As you know, a wireless network is broadcast through channels. If more networks appear, they begin to interrupt each other. In practice, you can observe unstable Internet operation. Moreover, a problem can appear at any time, for example, when a neighbor installs a router operating on the same channel. Unsurprisingly, this mainly affects those who live in apartment buildings.

You can resolve the issue by going to the router settings via the web interface. There you should go to the “Wireless Network” tab and find the “Channel” item. You can select “Auto” or one of the suggested ones - the main thing is that it differs from the previously installed one.

By saving the changes and restarting the router, the problem may disappear. As a rule, breaks stop when a more or less free channel is selected. By the way, it can be determined using specialized tools (NetSpot, WirelessNetView and others).

Do not forget that the router should not be installed in the house near household appliances that emit magnetic radiation. This creates interference that negatively affects the connection.

Troubleshooting router problems

It is possible that an unstable connection to the Internet through the router is due to the device. For example, the wrong firmware is used for its operation. It can be replaced by first downloading an updated version from the manufacturer’s website. The main thing is not to look for software on third-party sites, as there is a risk of installing malware that can render the equipment inoperable.

Wi-Fi may also be interrupted due to technical problems. It would be a good idea to inspect the power supply. For example, the router may not receive the necessary power and the Internet will turn off from time to time. This often happens with large voltage drops.

It is worth checking exactly at what moments problems begin to arise. It is possible that interruptions appear during heavy loads - launching online games, downloading files via torrent, or when connecting additional devices. This all indicates that the power of the router is not enough. So the solution would be to buy a newer one.

If the Internet via Wi-Fi constantly breaks down in a certain room, you need to increase the range of the network. Moving the router itself or installing another Wi-Fi access point will help.

If all else fails

If after the above steps the Internet works intermittently and the problem cannot be fixed, the only option left is to install a powerful adapter model that supports the 5 GHz frequency. It will make the connection stable and the router signal will not disappear.

The signal strength can be increased independently using system tools, and unstable Internet operation will be eliminated:

  1. Launch the “Network and Sharing Center…” section in the Control Panel and open the desired network.
  2. Click on “Wireless Network Properties” and check the “Connect if the network does not broadcast its SSID” option.
  3. Confirm the change by clicking OK.

Conclusion

A universal solution to improve an unstable signal through a router has not yet been invented. Indeed, there are many reasons for Internet outages and it can be difficult to determine them. However, the above recommendations allow you to establish a stable and fast Wi-Fi network and avoid calling a specialist.

It is not uncommon to encounter a problem when, after connecting a device to a Wi-Fi network, the Internet does not work. There is a connection, everything seems to be fine, but the Internet does not work. Pages in the browser do not open, programs do not see the Internet connection. As a rule, this problem appears when setting up a Wi-Fi router. But there are often cases when everything works, there is access to the Internet, and at some point it simply disappears. At the same time, the same laptop, smartphone, or tablet is connected to Wi-Fi, but does not access the Internet.

I myself have encountered this problem more than once. There are many reasons and solutions. Therefore, the main thing is to figure everything out in order. Find out who is to blame for this situation and fix the problem. It is clear that either the Wi-Fi router (which is most often the case) or our device on which the Internet has stopped working is to blame. It could be a computer, laptop, tablet, phone, etc. It doesn't matter. The result is the same - there is a connection to the wireless network, but there is no Internet.

To make it clear, let’s divide the article into three points:

  • What to do if the problem is due to the router.
  • Solving the problem on a laptop or desktop computer.
  • And solving the problem with the Internet on mobile devices (tablets, smartphones).

And so, as I already wrote above, we need to find the reason why the Internet does not work on our device. As practice shows, Mostly the router is to blame, the Wi-Fi network itself.

If you encounter this problem when setting up the router, then follow the link and read a separate article with solutions:. Everything is described and shown there in detail.

If a problem occurs when Wi-Fi is connected, but the Internet does not work, always first check the router and Internet connection, as I described above. Since the reason very rarely lies in the laptops, smartphones, tablets, and other devices themselves.

If the Internet via Wi-Fi does not work due to problems in the router

How to find out and check? Very simple. You most likely have several devices that can connect to Wi-Fi. We connect them to our network, and if the Internet does not work on any device, then the problem is definitely in the router. Or, you can connect your laptop (smartphone, tablet) to another Wi-Fi network and check the operation. After you are convinced that the problem is in the router, you can try to solve it:

  • For starters, simple. Maybe even several times.
  • You definitely need to make sure that the Internet is paid for and there are no problems on the provider’s side. To find out, you can call the support of your Internet provider. Also, you can connect the Internet directly to your computer (if possible) and check whether it will work without a router.
  • Check if the wires are connected to the router correctly. Also look at the indicators on the router itself (are they blinking as usual).
  • If the Internet works without a router, then you need to check the settings. Perhaps the settings have been lost, and the router cannot connect to the Internet or establish a connection with the Internet provider. I don’t know what router you have, so look for instructions for your manufacturer on our website, in the “Setting up a router” section (menu at the top).
  • If the Wi-Fi network is not yours, then it is quite possible that some problems have arisen in its operation. Or, for example, a neighbor did not pay for the Internet :)

Here is another detailed article on this issue that will definitely be useful to you:

The laptop is connected to Wi-Fi, but there is no Internet access

If the problem only appears on a laptop or desktop computer, then you need to check some settings. After connecting, you will most likely have a yellow exclamation mark next to the connection icon, and the status "No Internet access", or "Limited".

And when we try to open the site, we will see an error "The page is not available".

We already have a large article on our website on solving the error. If you have Windows 10, then see the article.

First of all, I would advise you to restart the laptop and check whether automatic acquisition of an IP address is set in the properties of the wireless connection. You can do it like this:

What to do if Wi-Fi on your phone (tablet) is connected, but the Internet does not work?

On mobile devices that run Android, iOS, or Windows Phone, the situation is exactly the same. A connection to the wireless network may be established, but pages in the browser will not open.

By the way, on Android devices the Wi-Fi connection icon may be gray instead of blue. In this case, check whether the date and time are set correctly. If you are sure that the problem is with your device and not with the Wi-Fi network, then restart your mobile device and try to connect again. Also, check how the Internet will work when connected to other wireless networks.

If the tips did not help, then describe your problem in the comments. I'll try to recommend something.

Today for many it is already an urgent need. Modern hardware and operating systems are becoming more and more intelligent, and the user is less and less likely to need to do anything to configure. However, occasionally such a need arises. Today we will tell you how to solve the problem if your computer reports that you are connected to a network without access to the Internet, and next to the connections icon you see a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark.

Microsoft operating systems, starting with Windows 7, constantly monitor network connections, and as soon as the global network is unavailable, they immediately report it. There are many reasons why your computer may not have an Internet connection. These could be problems with the provider, incorrect equipment configuration on the part of the user, or failures in the operation of network protocols. Today, the new IPv6 protocol is becoming increasingly widespread, but its percentage is still very small, especially in home networks, so the main attention will be paid to the old version - IPv4.

Connecting via a router via a network cable without access to the Internet

Problems with the provider

Yesterday everything worked, but today this warning appeared. If this happens to you for no apparent reason, then in most cases the problem is with the provider. Therefore, before doing anything yourself, call technical support. Most often, data lines are damaged, some technical work is being carried out, or you simply forgot to top up your account on time.

You may hear in response that everything is working well with the provider, then you need to check your network and, if necessary, configure it. The support service will probably offer the services of its technician, but, firstly, his services are not free, and secondly, by the time the technician gets to you, you may have time to solve the problem yourself.

Physical connection problem

It is not so rare that the culprit is a partially broken network cable or a loose connection in the connector. And if you have pets or children, then the likelihood of such a development of events increases. Even Wi-Fi users should not forget that there will also be a cable running to the wireless router. Check the integrity of all wiring - are there any strong kinks anywhere, are all plugs firmly inserted into the sockets and are they inserted where they really need to be. Provided that no problem is found here, we move on to the next step.

Connecting via local network Windows 7 without access to the Internet

It happens that the installed router simply freezes. In this case it helps. To do this, just turn off its power and connect it again after a few seconds. It won't hurt to restart your computer at the same time. If your router freezes like this with annoying regularity, consider buying a new device. You should also try connecting the Internet cable directly to your PC or laptop. If there is no result, let’s first deal with the computer.

Checking your computer settings

It is possible that the problem arose “out of the blue”, then problems with the settings on the computer should not arise; much more often the problem arises during the initial configuration or making any changes to an already working network. First of all, you need to check that the IP address of your computer is correct by pressing Win+R on your keyboard at the same time. The Run window will open. In its line, enter ncpa.cpl and click OK. The network connections window will appear. It may happen that there are several of them, but the necessary one will not be crossed out with a red cross and its name is similar to “Local Area Connection” or “Wireless Connection” (in the case). Right-click on the desired connection and go to properties, where the list will contain lines with IPv4 and IPv6 entries. Check the box next to IPv6, and double-click on IPv4. Check the boxes to automatically receive settings and save the changes. If access to the Internet does not appear, move on.

Setting up a local network connection in Windows 7

Finding out the router address

Perhaps you didn’t have to do anything in the previous window, the settings for obtaining IPv4 and IPv6 protocol addresses are automatic and everything was initially as it should be. Then you just need to configure the router, for which you need to know its address. Right-click on the connection again and select “Status” and then click “Details”. There will be several lines in the window that appears; we are interested in “IPv4 Address”. If you see an entry like 192.168.x.x, remember or write down what is indicated opposite “IPv4 DHCP server” - this will be its address. It may be that the computer is not able to receive the settings automatically, then the entry will look like 169.254.x.x. You can find out the router’s IP from its documentation, or it is indicated on the device’s case, and most often it is 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1. Open your browser and enter the established IP in the address bar, and if it is correct, you will be prompted to enter your username and password.

Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) Properties

Setting up an internal network on the router

After correctly entering your credentials, you will be taken to the router control panel, and further actions depend on the device model and its firmware. You need to find a DHCP server control, which is responsible for automatically obtaining IP addresses and other parameters necessary for the network to function properly. Look for blocks whose names include DHCP settings, DHCP server, or similar. The block will contain a switch with the values Enable or Disable. Most often, these settings are located in the LAN section. Enable the DHCP server, save the changes and reboot the router. Once this is done, an Internet connection will appear on your computer.

Check your connection settings to your provider

You should not make hasty conclusions if the previous steps did not help set up the connection. Since the network is still not working normally, we check the connection with the provider, for which in the router control panel, go to the appropriate section. Almost all manufacturers call these options WAN or Internet. There are quite a lot of settings options in this section. Which ones are intended for you, you can find out from the contract or from the technical support of your service provider.

Reinstalling network card drivers and checking the firewall

It makes sense to do this when you are sure that all previous settings are correct, the connection with the provider is established, but the network cannot be configured normally. The best option would be to download the most recent version of the driver from the manufacturer's website, which, it seems, will require going to a friend or neighbor. If this is not possible, the driver included on the installation disk will be quite suitable. After reinstalling, be sure to restart your computer. Here it is also necessary to note driver failures that occur due to installed software that makes changes to the operation of network protocols on the computer. The most common representatives are antiviruses and firewalls. Make sure that such programs are not installed, and if they are, disable or remove them during the test, as they may block the connection.

Replacing the MAC address of a network card

Problems with MAC addresses sometimes arise in cases where the network is very large, but it is still worth eliminating it. On your computer, go to the device manager, press the Win+R keys, enter devmgmt.msc and click OK. The device manager will start, where you need to find the “ Network adapters” section, expand it and select the network card with which the PC is connected. After double-clicking on it, in a new window, on the “Advanced” tab, select the Network address option and enter any twelve digits in the empty field on the right. After that, reboot and look at the result.

Clear DNS cache and reset TCP/IP settings

The following steps will reset all network settings for IPv6 and v4, so you must follow them. If you are ready for this, and you have information about all the settings (written down somewhere, for example), find the command line in the Start menu and run it with administrator rights. Enter the following commands in the window that appears, confirming your entry by pressing Enter. After running each command, restart your computer and check the result.

  1. ipconfig /flushdns
  2. netsh winsock reset
  3. netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt - this command will completely reset all connections and you will have to configure them again!

Clearing the DNS cache using the command line

You have a direct connection to your provider

The option when your computer is connected directly to the provider, bypassing the router, is now becoming less and less common, as the number of network devices is steadily growing. But what to do if you have just such a connection? Eliminate possible problems with drivers as indicated above and check that the connection settings are correct. Regarding the settings, the best option would be to contact technical support, since there are a lot of variations.

Nothing helped at all

Maybe you're lucky and your ISP provides access using the new IPv6 protocol, the configuration of which requires knowledge of some subtleties. It should be noted that the expansion of the use of IPv6 is inevitable, since the address space of the previous version of the protocol, IPv4, has come to an end, and the global network is growing every day. Since your efforts have been wasted, and your network still hasn’t started working, then there is only one piece of advice - call a specialist. It is quite possible that the problem that has arisen is non-standard or that equipment replacement/repair is required to solve it.

There is Internet access, but the error remains

This situation may well exist. The reasons may be different - most often when connecting through a proxy server. However, there is only one solution. Press Win+R, enter gpedit.msc - this will take you to the local group policy editor. In the menu on the left, go through the following items: Policy “Local Computer" - Computer Configuration - Administrative Templates - System - Internet Communication Management - Internet Communication Settings. Now, on the right side of the window, find and enable “Disable active probing for network connection status indicator.” In Windows 10, this setting is called "Turn off active network connection health checks." Please note that now, even if there is truly no connection, the message will not appear.

Conclusion

This article collects the most common problems associated with the “Network without Internet access” error and suggests ways to solve it. We hope that the material was interesting to you and helped you overcome the difficulties you encountered.

Hello visitors to the blog site
All computer owners are familiar with such an unpleasant situation when the Internet suddenly disappears, precisely at the moment when it is so badly needed!

What should you do if you suddenly lose your Internet connection?

In the modern world it is difficult to imagine a person without a personal computer.

There is not a single acquaintance in my circle who does not have a computer or laptop; in extreme cases, there is at least a tablet.

And some people not only have a PC, but also more than one, plus a smart TV, smart phones and other devices that all require the Internet. Without which, the whole point of using all these devices is simply lost, except maybe just a telephone, which is primarily intended for calls, and then everything else.

Nowadays you can access the Internet almost from an iron or a meat grinder, I’m kidding of course, but who knows, anything can happen.

So, for the operation of all these devices, there is a Router, also known as a Router, capable of receiving a high-speed Internet signal, then distributing it without any wires to all your devices via a Wi-Fi network, which is very convenient, but not at all safe! Find out in detail what the dangers of WI-FI networks are and how you can avoid them.

But it often happens that the connection is lost and when you try to access the site’s Web page, a window appears with the message: Server not found, and below are usually written the possible causes of the malfunction.

In the system tray, if you have hidden icons displayed, you may also see connection problems. Read about what the system tray is and how to enable the display of hidden icons in the article.

2 ways to restore the Internet

There may be several reasons for the loss of connection, but most of them can be fixed on your own, so do not rush to call your provider to file a claim.

  • Solution 1

Right-click on the network icon, 2 items will appear: select Troubleshooting. We wait a couple of minutes while the computer solves the problem.

If, upon completion of the diagnostics, the issue is not resolved, but a window appears with an error like the DNS server is not responding or some other error as shown in my screenshot, then it makes sense to repeat the diagnostics again, if it still doesn’t help, move on to another solution.

I also want to warn you not to pay attention to those detected problems that the diagnostics will reveal, it’s unlikely that your cable is connected incorrectly, if it only recently worked or is completely damaged.

  • Solution 2
  1. We turn off our computer, I wrote about the correct ways to turn off a PC
  2. We turn off the power to the router (router), from the socket or a special button on it, wait at least 3 minutes
  3. Turn on the router
  4. Turn on the computer
  5. Launch the browser to check the connection

After these steps, in 95% of cases the problem with the Internet connection is solved.

If, after this procedure, an Internet connection still does not appear, then most likely these are temporary problems with your provider, which are always quickly resolved by them.

As part of this article, I want to dwell in more detail on what to do if the Internet via cable on a computer or laptop does not work. After all, even though in recent years users have begun to switch en masse to using wireless networks, many still use a wired connection. Firstly, it is more reliable, secondly, the data transfer speed is still higher than that of WiFi, and thirdly, not everyone has a router: some cannot buy one, while others are satisfied with connecting to the provider’s cable “ directly”, that is, directly to the network card of a PC or laptop.
First you need to decide what is happening, because there can be many options for the development of events. I will list the most common cases.

By the way, basically, most problems with network access arise after reinstalling Windows. No one bothered to look at and write down the old settings, and on the new system no one knows what to configure.

Unidentified network

In Russia, most providers provide Internet access using the protocol PPPoE. That is, in order to access the global web, you need to launch a high-speed PPP connection.
If the computer is connected to the provider’s network directly, without a router, then nothing will initially work through the network connection itself, and therefore an exclamation mark with the comment “Unidentified network” and “no Internet access” will appear on it.

There is nothing “criminal” here. You just need to create a high-speed connection. An example for Windows 7 can be found, and for Windows 10, look at the video:

There are also a number of providers that provide subscribers with a connection type IPoE according to the Dynamic IP standard. There you just need to connect the cable entering the apartment to the network card and you can work. Almost the same picture will happen if the computer is connected via a router. But even in this case, things don’t always go smoothly. Sometimes it is not possible to connect the Internet via cable due to incorrect settings of the TCP/IP protocol, namely because the addresses are registered statically there, but there should be a checkbox to receive them automatically. To fix this, you need to press the Win+R key combination and enter the command: ncpa.cpl.

Click on the “OK” button. This will take you to Windows 10 network connections, where you need to find the network card and right-click on it. In the menu that opens, select “Properties”.

No connections available

If you have a red cross on the network icon in the system tray, and in the comment that appears, Windows writes “Not connected: no”, then the reasons for this may be the following:

1. Driver problems. Firstly, users often simply forget to install them, as a result of which the Internet via cable disappears after reinstalling the system. As a result, the list of network connections remains completely empty.
Secondly, after the release of Windows 10, many old and not so old laptops encountered a compatibility problem. Today, many manufacturers have already released new versions of drivers that support this version of the OS.

2. System failure or the playful hands of the user himself. When checking, it turns out that the adapter is disabled in Device Manager:

On Windows 10, in this case, the network card icon will have a circle with an arrow, and on older versions there will be a red cross. To enable it again, right-click and select the “Enable” menu item.

3. In my practice, there have been cases when the network disappears due to glitches in the BIOS or its more modern analogue - UEFI, as well as in case of their incorrect configuration. Therefore, if the adapter is integrated, then it makes sense to check it. To do this, you need either a laptop and go to the section responsible for integrated devices. It is usually called “Integrated Peripherals” or “On-board device configuration”.

You need to go into it and find the item responsible for the network card - OnChip LAN Controller, Integrated NIC or OnBoard LAN - and check that it has a value Enabled.

4. It may also happen that your network card on your PC has burned out. To check, you will need any other device with a LAN port (laptop, modem, etc.).
If you are connected via a router, then simply try reconnecting to the adjacent connector.

5. Physical damage due to which the Internet via cable does not work. The indicator diode on the network card does not light up. And if it’s a simple patch cord between the computer and the router, that’s not so bad. But if it’s the provider’s cable coming from the entrance, then it’s rubbish!

Disconnect the patch cord from the computer, look at the connector to see if it is damaged or if one or more wires are broken. Walk along its entire length to the access distribution box and carefully inspect for damage to the wire.
If it is intact, call technical support and find out if there are any problems with the home switch to which you are connected. When installing, they often like to connect them to lighting, which causes the device to periodically lose power.

The network is working but there is no Internet access

This scenario usually completely shocks the user. It seems that the network connection is active, it doesn’t show any errors, but there is no Internet. As a rule, the reason lies in the DNS servers: they are either incorrectly specified or not registered at all.
With small telecom operators, it also happens that the server itself does not work.
It's easy to check. Press the Win+R key combination to open the Run window and enter the command:

It looks like this:

Here the IP address 8.8.8.8 is a public Google server, which is always available and the cases when it did not work can be counted on one hand.

Click on the “OK” button and look at the result. If the response from the IP address is received without loss, then there is Internet access and the reason is clearly in the DNS. Go to network connections in Windows 10 and open the properties of the IP protocol version 4.

If you need to either set the DNS address to be obtained automatically, or, if that doesn’t work, set it up manually:

Preferred server: 8.8.8.8
Alternative - 77.88.8.8

Click the “OK” button and check access to the global web.

We should not forget another possible culprit due to which access to the Internet is lost - this is the computer’s security system: antivirus, firewall, various security applications. Try to completely deactivate it during the diagnostics. If after this the problem disappears, you need to carefully understand why this is happening.

If the ping does not work and as a response you receive the message “The timeout interval for the request has been exceeded” or “Unidentified network”, then you need to check the settings of the router if you are connected through it, or call the provider if the LAN cable entering the apartment is turned on into the PC network card.

Many people are familiar with the situation when you sit down at your computer and discover that your connection to the Internet has been lost. A very undesirable problem, especially if your work directly depends on the Internet.

To fix any problem, you need to find the cause of it.
Why is the Internet connected but not working? There can be many reasons for an Internet outage, both internal and external.

Let's look at the main problems of Internet outages associated with external factors.

What is a provider and what are external reasons

A provider is a company that provides you with Internet access services by connecting your computer to the global network.

All data that you send or receive via the Internet passes through its devices, and the provider is obliged to ensure the transfer of data.

External reasons why the Internet does not work mean that the problem originated outside of your home or the device that replaces it.

In such cases, it is quite rare to correct the situation on your own, as a result of which there is a need to contact the Internet service support service, that is, the provider.

No electricity

The Internet signal reaches your home after traveling quite a long way. On this path there is intermediate equipment that must be connected to electricity.

If the electricity is turned off anywhere along this path, the equipment will turn off and the signal will not pass through. You can't find out about this by just sitting at home. You need to call your provider.

The provider can use its equipment and software to trace the entire chain, find out where the problem is and fix it.

By the way, such breakdowns often occur during a thunderstorm or after a thunderstorm. Lightning protection devices are activated and the power is cut off.

In general, the weather began to deteriorate: strong winds, constant humidity, heavy rains, and especially freezing rains do not in any way contribute to the reliability of Internet connection channels. But they add more work for technical support of providers, and for users they add more dissatisfaction with denials of access to the Internet.

Something broke

On the long journey from the provider to your home, the provider's intermediate equipment may break down. This is not your equipment, it is not in your home, but due to its breakdown, there will be no signal in the house. It is impossible to find out about this while sitting at home. Again, you need to call your provider.

Everything that does not spoil, spoils too - this is what one of Murphy's laws says. Therefore, there is no chance that something in the chain of transmission of Internet signals to your house and apartment may deteriorate. Only the provider's technical support can fix this.

Even the provider’s server, through which all users, or more precisely, all the provider’s clients, gain access to the Internet, can break down. This, however, happens extremely rarely. Servers are becoming more reliable, they are duplicated, backed up, and provide uninterrupted round-the-clock operation. But you can still encounter a similar problem. Fortunately, very rarely.

It broke somewhere

Failures also include broken wires. Well, if a regular wire breaks, it can be “fused” and repaired. But, for example, a fiber optic wire cannot be connected without special equipment, which is not always available even from the provider’s technical support representatives.

Wires may break sooner or later. For different reasons. For example, my friends had a wire coming from the attic into their apartment that fell off from the ceiling where it was lightly attached. The wire fell to the floor, and everyone stepped over it for almost a week. And then everyone got tired of it, and the wire was cut off. I had to call the provider's technical support.

It is practically impossible to splice the wires yourself. Yes, and dangerous. It is possible to confuse signal wires with low and safe voltage with power wires where there is life-threatening voltage. Do not try to repair the break yourself; call technical support.

Other problems on the ISP side

The provider's support service will be able to fix problems such as equipment breakdowns at the provider's premises, or in the attic (entrance) of your apartment building, or restore a damaged wire. And we have already written about this above.

But it is possible that unscheduled work is simply being carried out, about which, of course, you should have been notified in advance, but as usual, they forgot. The provider warns about scheduled or unscheduled work by email. But how often do we check our email? Even if often, did we indicate the right email in the agreement with the Internet provider to communicate with us? Most often, to which messages from the provider arrive, they are rarely opened and almost never read.

And then - it turns out that we were warned that in connection with such and such work there would be no Internet connection in the period from such and such a time and date to such and such a time and date. Forewarned is forearmed. If you do not read such warnings, then suddenly the Internet turns off. The most unpleasant thing is that many users who do not read mail find themselves in a similar situation at the same time. Everyone starts calling the provider at the same time to find out the cause of the problem, but as a result the line becomes overloaded and it can be difficult to get information.

Financial block

It is worth reminding yourself that if your account balance is zero, your Internet connection is automatically blocked. Maybe you just forgot to top up your account? Think about this before you decide to contact support.

A support specialist will usually check your balance status. If you call, he may inform you that there is no Internet access due to a financial block. You need to top up your balance to access the Internet.

Alas, financial blocks can be wrong. The provider may mistakenly withdraw excess money due to, for example, a malfunction of equipment or software related to customer payments. Unfortunately, this also happens, and thus a financial block is automatically activated and the Internet does not work. In this case, you will have to be persistent in communicating with the provider’s technical support, which in turn will prove that you are wrong. In general, it is better that there are no such overlaps.

Problems with the router

If you use it to access the Internet, then the simplest option why the Internet does not work is that the router is turned off. It just needs to be connected to electricity.

Sometimes another option helps. Turn off the computer, turn off the router and after a few minutes turn everything back on, it may help.

If the router is faulty, then such a reboot will not help, and the router will need to be replaced. However, it is difficult for an inexperienced user to determine that the reason for the lack of Internet lies precisely in the router. In this case, you have to call a specialist from the company that provides the Internet access service, that is, again from the provider’s technical support.

Problems of mobile Internet users

If you use mobile Internet, then there are no wires going to your house or apartment. You receive a signal from your provider via radio. But this does not mean that there are fewer problems on the provider’s side.

Firstly, so many users can connect simultaneously that the provider does not have enough power.

Then the signal may weaken, or the ability to access the Internet will be completely disabled, since in conditions of overload, mobile operators primarily provide voice mobile communications, and only after that everything else.

Secondly, in the place where you are, the mobile operator may not be able to connect you to the Internet at all.

Unfortunately, this means that this cannot be done in this particular place. It even happens that in one part of the apartment or house there is Internet, but in the other, opposite part - not. We have to, as they say, look for the most suitable place.

Third, You may run out of money in your account, because the Internet access service is paid, as a rule. Also Paid traffic may run out, there is still money, but it is not intended to pay for Internet connections.

Here you need to take care of timely bills, as well as choose suitable tariff options that are convenient for using the Internet access service. Otherwise, you may be left without the Internet, sad as it may be.

It might also be trivial the modem overheats and stops working, which you use to access the Internet. Then you will have to stop the computer and wait until the device cools down. This happens in fast data networks, for example, those operating in the 4G (or LTE) standard.

In general, there can be problems on the mobile Internet, both on the provider’s side and on the user’s side.

Site blocking: some Internet pages do not work

It is possible that you visited a website and saw a message on your computer or smartphone screen: “Access to the resource is blocked.”

Rice. 1 Message on the screen that access to the resource is blocked

In this case, it is better to first close this message and then open another site, for example, Yandex or Google. If other sites open normally, this means that the Internet is working for you. The problem is not that the Internet does not work, but a separate site to which you are denied access.

Access to any site may be blocked by Roskomnadzor or a court. Or the Internet provider accidentally blocked the site by mistake. Below is an example of such a case from my experience.

Communication with the provider about blocking the site

I recently encountered a problem with a site being blocked. I open a page on my website and see a message on the screen that the page is blocked. I was surprised that all pages of my site opened without problems and without any messages, except for one page. I opened a supposedly “blocked” page through another Internet provider, everything works, there is no blocking. What to do in this situation? Why did my Internet provider accidentally block my page?

I wrote a letter describing my situation, attached a screenshot (shown in Fig. 1), and sent an e-mail to the support service of my Internet provider. I received this response from them: “Good afternoon, most likely this link, or more precisely, the resource is blocked by Roskomnadzor or Mossud. The solution to the problem is to look in the Roskomnadzor database for why the resource is blocked, and then contact us.”

I had to write to the provider's support service again about the fact that the page was blocked by only one provider. When accessing the Internet through any other provider, the page opens without problems.

After a long and more detailed communication with the provider’s technical support via E-mail correspondence, the problem was solved! And now all pages of the site open without problems.

Internet without problems - is it possible?

Modern data transmission systems, both wired and wireless, are becoming more and more reliable. And this is good, because, in this way, problems with Internet shutdowns become less and less.

It is unlikely that the Internet will ever become completely trouble-free. But now many users do not encounter such problems of lack of Internet, both on the provider’s side and on their computers. Even seemingly non-technical problems, such as financial blockages, are quickly eliminated. Providers offer so-called trust payments and other similar measures to restore normal operation of the Internet even in the absence of money in the user’s account

What to talk about technical things! Here, a lot of equipment is duplicated, servers are redundant, information transmission channels are made along different routes, again to increase reliability. And all this so that Internet access is always available, without interruptions, without weekends, without holidays, without restrictions.

This is the time we live in now. A time when many things are already becoming virtual, and payments, and shopping, and communication, and entertainment, and communication, and training, and development, and innovation, and so on and so forth. And the Internet is the very environment without which all this is no longer imaginable. That is why the requirements for its reliability and fault tolerance are so high.

I would like our Internet to never go down.

Most often they occur when the cable is disconnected or the router or modem is not working properly. First try running the Network Troubleshooter to see if it can diagnose and resolve the problem.
