Today we’ll look at what actions you should take if a black screen appears when loading Windows 10. Most of the problem is associated with discrete video card drivers from Nvidia (mainly GeForce) and AMD (Radeon). This problem, although the most common, is not the only one, so let’s not start with it. First, let's look at the simplest options for getting out of the situation, which will require no more than 1-2 minutes of time.

Note that the appearance of a black screen is often accompanied by the process of resuming the computer after sleep mode or hibernation.

Sometimes the problem appears after connecting a second monitor to a computer/laptop. If this applies to you, try displaying the image on a second display. This is done “blindly”:

  • press “Win + P” to open a window where you select an image output device, if there are several of them in the system;
  • Press the cursor down “↓” and “Enter” to confirm duplicating the image.

Launching Explorer

Due to many reasons, at one of the final stages of loading Windows 10, its graphical shell, for which the process (aka file) explorer.exe is responsible, was not launched. It happens that some malicious programs simply change the path to the explorer.exe file in the registry, replacing it with their own body.

The “Task Manager” will help you launch the graphical shell.

1. Call it using “Ctrl+Alt+Delete”.

2. Call “File” from the main menu and select “Run a new task”.

3. Enter the command “explorer.exe” or select the file of the same name located in the Windows directory of the system volume.

4. Press “Enter”.

The solution didn't help? Let's move on to the next method.

Restarting the computer

One of the methods to fix the error when a black screen appears when loading Windows 10 is to restart the computer. You will have to carry it out blindly, but there is nothing difficult about it.

  • We switch the system language to the one in which the password was set, knowing that Russian is used by default.

You can also switch to it using the “Win+Space” key combination.

  • Just in case, perform a few clicks on “Backspace” to remove possible characters in the password entry form.
  • Enter your password and press “Enter” to log in.
  • We wait 10-20 seconds until Windows 10 prepares the desktop for use.

The waiting time may be different, depending on the speed of the computer and the amount of automatically launched software.

  • Press “Win + R” to open the “Run” window.
  • Switch to English, enter “shutdown /r” and execute the command to restart the computer with the “Enter” key.

If nothing happens, repeat steps 5-6 again. As a last resort, use the hardware key to interrupt the operation of the computer “Reset” or end it (hold down “Power” for a long time).

Disabling Windows Fast Startup

For the most part, further steps help only owners of Radeon video adapters.

1. Go to the “Control Panel” using the search bar or the WinX menu.

2. Call one of its latest applets, “Power.”

3. In the left vertical menu, click on the link “Actions of the power buttons”.

Attention. Performing the action requires administrator rights.

5. Move to the bottom of the window and uncheck the box next to “Enable fast startup...”.

6. Save the accepted changes.

After this, if the cause of the black tap was a quick start, the problem will not reoccur.

Reinstalling or updating the graphics card driver

If the previous methods did not give a positive result, try removing the drivers and installing them again by downloading the latest versions from the video adapter manufacturer's website.

The first part of the actions will also have to be performed “blindly”, meaning that Windows 10 has started, but there is no image on the display.

  1. Press Backspace a couple of times on the login screen.
  2. Click Tab 5 times.
  3. Press the “Enter” key.
  4. Then use the “cursor up” button.
  5. Hold "Shift" and use "Enter" again.
  6. We wait about a minute until the diagnostic, resume and OS rollback window opens.
  7. Press “down” and “Enter” twice.
  8. Down again three times and “Enter”.
  9. Next, if you are using an old motherboard with a BIOS, click the “↓” key twice, and if you are using a new motherboard with UEFI, click the down arrow three times and confirm the operation by pressing “Enter”. If you follow these steps correctly, your PC will restart and display special boot options.
  10. Using F3 or F5, select your preferred Windows 10 startup mode and launch it by clicking on the “Enter” key.

Now you can try rolling back the system to one of its previous states, updating or reinstalling the graphics adapter drivers.

Let's consider the option of uninstalling and installing the latest driver using the example of using an Nvidia video card.

1. Call the Control Panel applet called “Programs and Features.”

2. Find all products related to your graphics adapter.

For Nvidia this could be PhysX and components for viewing 3D video, and for Radeon Install Manager.

3. Go to the website of the video card developer and download the latest version of the driver for it.

4. Run the downloaded file and follow the instructions provided, selecting the required components for installation.

5. Reboot the computer in normal mode.

As a rule, after this the black screen does not appear when loading Windows 10.

In order not to uninstall every element included in the set of software for your video card, use an application to completely clean the system of AMD/Intel/Nvidia video card drivers called Display Driver Installer. In addition to using a standard uninstaller, the utility will scan your computer for residual files, directories and registry keys.

1. Launch the sfx archive downloaded from the application developer’s website and unpack it.

2. Open the application and select the “Safe Mode” download option from the drop-down list.

3. Click “Reboot to Save Mode” to restart the PC and boot it into safe mode.

4. Select the manufacturer of your video card in the drop-down menu on the right.

5. Click on the “Delete and reboot” button.

After this, all files related to the graphics subsystem software will be deleted, and after restarting the computer, you can install new drivers that will get rid of the black screen.

Avast Antivirus

A large number of users complain about the antivirus program from Avast, the installation of which leads to a black screen. Uninstalling a security application is not a solution, nor is disabling its autorun. And adding the “explorer.exe” file to the exceptions will get rid of the problem.

  1. Open “Task Manager”.
  2. Go to the “Processes” tab, look for the “Avast.exe” process and call the “Open file save location” command through its context menu.
  3. We launch the program using the file “AvastUI.exe”.
  4. Expand the “Antivirus” item and go to the “Behavior Screen” subsection.
  5. Click “Browse” and specify the path to the explorer file “explorer.exe” located in the “C:\Windows” directory.

After saving the changes, Avast stops constant monitoring, and as a result, blocking the process.

Switching to the built-in video card

If the above tips did not help get rid of the problem, and your computer has a second video card integrated into the central processor or motherboard, try connecting a monitor to it. After successfully launching Windows 10, use the instructions above and install the latest version of the driver, removing all its components related to the old edition.

Rollback Windows

If you have a bootable flash drive with the Tens distribution kit or a disk for its recovery, boot from this media and roll back the system to the moment when the computer was working properly (updating drivers for the video card).

Even with the most modern and best to date, according to the developers, Windows 10 sometimes very unpleasant situations occur, and one of them should include the appearance of a black screen after the procedure for updating (installing) the system or subsequently due to other changes made to its operation .

If such a problem has happened to the user and he sees only a cursor on a black screen background on the monitor, or it often happens that there is not even a cursor on the black computer display, then the material presented in this publication will help him eliminate such a system malfunction without a complex and time-consuming procedure operating system installations.

Causes of the phenomenon

The complexity of the situation is aggravated by the variety of causes of a black screen. Most often, this system error appears after upgrading the “Seven” or “Eight” to Windows 10.

Sometimes this happens even with a normally functioning OS with index 10 after installing its own packages to improve the system. In the list of common sources of the problem under consideration, first of all, it is necessary to include the reason when the software (drivers) of equipment that worked successfully in the previous version of Windows, for example, a graphics adapter, is not suitable. It also happens due to an Explorer operating error or license duplication.

It should be noted that there is a black screen that appears after a Windows upgrade, and after a certain period of time it spontaneously disappears and the OS starts working normally.

However, more often the ill-fated “Black Square of Malevich” settles on the screen for a long time and without qualified intervention the problem cannot correct itself. It is very good if the mouse and keyboard can operate normally (you can verify this by moving the cursor across the black screen). Also good news for people who are faced with a black screen is that the actions taken to resolve this OS error are standard (hardware faults, i.e. problems with hardware, will not be considered in these instructions).

Instructions for correcting errors using OS tools

The error can be corrected using Windows functionality - by going to the previous version.

For this purpose, it is necessary to perform the following sequence of actions:

What should I do if an error occurs during the upgrade (installation) to Windows 10?

If a black screen appears directly during the system update procedure to the “Tenth” version,” the instructions given above will no longer help. You will have to take more drastic measures by forcibly turning off the PC or laptop by holding down the power button for a long time, since in this case the most likely cause of the failure will be a discrepancy between the video card software and the requirements of the new Windows 10.

During the subsequent boot of the PC, the OS will analyze the disk for existing errors and after that the Windows desktop will be displayed. It is necessary to install the latest drivers for the graphics device. For this purpose, it is convenient to use the “Device Manager”, and you can also use the special “Driver Booster” application, which downloads software from the official resources of the equipment manufacturer. Having updated all the drivers, you will then need to start installing Windows 10 again.

If the user finds the simple method of forcibly shutting down the PC barbaric (it’s very difficult to disagree with this), then you can try to blindly reboot Windows 10.

To do this, you need to take the following sequential steps:

Note: In order to avoid such difficulties, it is recommended to analyze the relevance of drivers for all computer devices before upgrading to Windows 10 (this can be done using the above-mentioned “Driver Booster” program).

We use the computer motherboard

You can disconnect the cable from the monitor from the video card connector and connect it to the built-in video adapter on the motherboard. Next, roll back the graphics device drivers to their previous working state.

It should be noted that the OS with index “10” is still “raw” and has many hardware incompatibilities. Therefore, users often, after updating, are faced with the problem of PC components not working.

Conclusion

If, after reading this article, you completely lose the desire to follow the above instructions, and the desire to use Ten disappears after updating, then it is recommended to use the usual method of restoring Windows 10 using a bootable flash drive or disk.

  1. Hello admin! Soon July 29, 2016 - the free upgrade to Windows 10 expires and I decided not to wait for the last day and upgrade, but in update process Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 A black screen appeared on the monitor screen, I waited for half a day, but the screen remained black. On one forum on the Internet they suggested restarting the computer and repeating the update process, but unfortunately after rebooting I cannot get into Windows 8.1 to start the update process again, the screen still shows the same black screen. What to do?
  2. Hello! I updated my Windows 7 to Windows 10, but the joy was short-lived, after two days the laptop began to turn on with a black screen, then twenty minutes (and sometimes an hour) passed, and Win 10 still loaded. Is there any way to get rid of this black screen or roll back to Windows 7?

Hello friends! The ability to freely upgrade current Windows 7 and 8.1 to Windows 10 will end soon on July 29, 2016. Millions of users around the world have already done this, taking advantage of the upgrade process before installing Windows 10 from scratch. This means saving data on drive C, installed programs, and transferring activation. However, alas, throughout almost a year of hype with upgrading to Windows 10, this process did not always end successfully and computer services began to bring computers and laptops with the so-called “ Black screen Windows 10", also on various forums on the Internet, requests for help in solving the same problem began to appear.

In my experience black screen windows 10 may appear in three cases:

  1. A black screen in Windows 10 appears when logging into the operating system some time after a successful update. One of the scenarios for this error: a black screen with a frozen or moving cursor is replaced after a long time by the system starting.
  2. Another, more hopeless scenario: Windows 10 does not start, the black screen remains the top demonstration of the capabilities of the updated system, no matter how you restart the computer.
  3. The most hopeless option. Windows 10 black screen appears in the process of upgrading previous operating systems to Windows 10.

What reasons can lead to such a problem when upgrading the current version of the system to Windows 10? How to solve the black screen problem in Windows 10? I offer my solution to the problem of the Windows 10 black screen in the above cases.

Friends, if your Windows 10 previously loaded perfectly, but now “pleased you with a black screen,” then First of all, try the keyboard shortcutControl-Alt-Delete launch task manager,

In the input field, enter explorer and click OK.

Your Windows 10 desktop will most likely appear.

What’s most interesting is that you can then turn off the computer and turn it on, and Windows 10 will start perfectly and work without any problems. I came across this bug many times, but mainly in those cases when computers and laptops with new hardware were updated to Windows 10.

Another simple way to get rid of the black screen. If you have a laptop, simply remove the battery from it and install it back, then turn on the laptop, it is quite possible that Windows will load instead of a black screen.

If these two simple solutions did not help you, then read the article further.

1. Windows 10 Booting: Disabling Fast Startup

We all know that Windows 10 has (and is enabled by default) Fast Startup or Hybrid Boot technology, which allows your computer or laptop to boot into the operating system faster after shutting down, but not after rebooting. Fast startup technology is based on hibernation. If fast startup is enabled in Windows 10, then when the system is turned off, it ends the user session, but does not end the system session, that is, it suspends all running system processes and services, writing information about this to the hibernation file hiberfil.sys. When you turn on your computer or laptop, the contents of the hiberfil.sys file are loaded into memory, due to which a quick startup occurs; this process is very similar to exiting the hibernation state.

I want to say that this technology does not always work correctly on all hardware (especially old ones).

If we are dealing with a system that still boots, albeit for a long time, after updating it to Windows 10, you can try to solve the problem with a black screen by disabling fast startup. Keys Win+Q We call the internal search, enter the request “Power supply”.

In the power settings window, click the inscription "Power button actions".

At the bottom of the window, in the column "Shutdown Options" Uncheck the “Enable fast startup” option. Save the changes.

If this move does not solve the problem with a black screen and long loading times in Windows 10, the reason may lie in the video card driver. More about this below, in paragraph 4 of the article.

2. Windows 10 won’t boot: how to get into the system?

If all this does not bring successful results, you should try to get inside Windows 10 using safe mode. But to do this, you first need to be in action selection menu Windows 10

The existing theory that the action selection menu in Windows 8.1 and 10 can be accessed using the Shift+F8 keys while the computer is booting is difficult to verify in practice. The response time to these keys is negligible due to the shortened startup of Windows 8.1 and 10 systems. However, if someone manages to successfully test the operation of the Shift+F8 keys by getting into the action selection menu, then you need to follow this path:

Finally, directly in the safe mode window, press the F4-F6 keys in accordance with the desired parameters of this mode.

More reliable ways to start Windows 10 in safe mode are to use or. If any of these details are available, go to the article for further instructions.

What to do after booting into safe mode?

3. Screen resolution

A black Windows 10 screen may be caused by setting a screen resolution that is not supported by the video card. In safe mode without the video card driver running, the screen resolution will be standard - 1024x768, and the operating system will become visible. This will allow you to change the system screen resolution settings to lower ones. For example, you can apply the same 1024x768 standard to the system to check whether Windows 10 starts. The screen resolution in safe mode is set in the same way as during normal operation of Windows 10. On the desktop, call up the context menu, select "Display Options".

Extra options.

Setting the resolution.

4. Video driver

If screen resolution is not the cause of the black screen after upgrading to Windows 10, then you next need to check whether the video card driver is involved in the problem. Very often, after upgrading previous operating systems (Windows 7, Windows 8.1) to Windows 10, the old video card driver conflicts with the new operating system, causing the black screen problem. Uninstalling the video card driver in Device Manager can solve the problem. Expand the “Video adapters” item, right-click on the name of the video adapter and select “Delete”.

We reboot the computer and if it was a video driver conflicting with Windows 10, then the operating system will boot normally by installing the built-in video driver from Microsoft. After this you need or you can manually download the latest version of the video driver from the official website of the video card manufacturer.

5. Viruses

Viruses and other malware are a universal cause of many problems in the operation of the OS, including the black screen of Windows 10. You can check the system for viruses either in the same safe mode or by booting from antivirus bootable media. Many security software developers have such free emergency Live disks, in particular, .

  • Note: The consequence of penetration of malware into the system may be damage to important system files, and the mere fact of neutralizing infected files with antiviruses may not be enough to restore Windows functionality. In this case, you need to resort to . The same process for cases where Windows 10 won't boot is described .

6. System rollback

If, before upgrading to Windows 10, the current Windows 7 or 8.1 was created restore point or backup copy(by third-party or standard system tools), and all the methods discussed above did not solve the problem with the black screen, it’s time to start rolling back the system. Rolling back Windows 10, including when it does not boot, is described in detail in the articles on restoring this version of the system and.

7. Cancel the update and return to the previous version of Windows

Canceling the update and returning to the previous version of Windows is, in fact, the only way to roll back the system while saving data on drive C, installed and configured programs, if there is neither a backup nor a restore point made in advance on the eve of the update. Having returned to the previous Windows 7 or 8.1, you can then try to update the system to version 10 in a new way. Naturally, do not forget to make a backup copy before the second update attempt in case of failure the second time. But you can only return to the previous Windows 7 or 8.1 within a month from the day of the upgrade to Windows 10 and if there is an untouched Windows.old folder on drive C. How to cancel the upgrade to Windows 10 using the standard functionality.

  • Note: It is not recommended to resort to undoing the Windows 10 upgrade using third-party utilities.

8. Return the system to its original state

Just as the update process can be accompanied by errors and failures, the reverse process of canceling the update can fail, even if the month-long deadline for this operation has been met and the Windows.old folder has not been deleted. If canceling the update fails, there is neither a backup nor a restore point, and the question of returning to a previous version of Windows is a fundamental one. In this case, the data stored on the disk (C:), if it is valuable, must be moved to a non-system disk partition. In Windows 10 that won't boot, this is done, for example, using the one mentioned in . Each of them includes a file manager among the tools.

If we are talking about stationary PCs and laptops without a recovery environment from the manufacturer, and also if there is a desire to continue working with Windows 10, this system can be returned to the default settings, as if it were a normal system reinstallation process. This method of restoring laptops to factory settings has the advantage of automatically saving files to disk (C:). Read about this in detail.

Some users have encountered a black screen issue when loading Windows 10 during the free update period. The update has finished, but the error has not disappeared. In this article, we will look at the most common solutions to the black screen error after loading Windows 10, from simple to complex.

Causes of Black Screen Error in Windows 10

A black screen after updating Windows 10 often occurred due to incorrect operation of the video adapter driver (in most cases on laptops) and antivirus (Avast, Norton, old versions of Dr. Web), and less often other software. At the moment, the reasons for the error have not changed much.

Most often, after loading Windows 10, you only see a black screen with a mouse cursor. Possible ways to resolve the issue:

  • Removing the video card driver
  • Disabling system services
  • Create a new profile
  • If there is a mouse cursor on a black screen and it is possible to launch the Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc), then almost all of the suggested options can be performed without using safe mode.

    Fix Windows 10 black screen

    Clean boot

First, launch the Task Manager and in the Startup tab, disable all applications (Some antiviruses cannot be disabled - self-defense is built into the antivirus).

Then, click on the file and select Run new task where we enter the msconfig command and click OK. A system configuration window will open, where in the Services tab you will need to check the box next to Do not display Microsoft services, then click on the Disable all button and confirm the reboot.

*The test device has a clean system installed, so there are no third-party services there.

    Removing the video card driver

To solve the problem with the black screen, open the Task Manager and open the Run window, enter the command devmgmt.msc, after which the Device Manager will open. Let's open the Video adapters tab and see the devices that are used on the computer.

Select the adapter and click on the red cross - Remove device, a warning window will appear with the option to remove video card drivers, check the box, remove and reboot.

*On some laptops, for the correct operation of two video cards, the correct installation of drivers is sometimes required, preferably a clean installation and a BIOS update.

Also, to quickly remove the driver, you can use the DDU - Display Driver Uninstaller utility. Download the utility, unpack it and run it, it will automatically detect your video card model, driver version and offer several options for removal. It is recommended to perform Uninstall and Reboot.

    Disabling system services

You can eliminate the black screen when starting Windows 10 by disabling system services. Open the task manager again and go to the Details and Services tabs, here you will need to end all RunOnce processes (and stop the service if it is running), then restart the computer.
Also, on some laptops there is an error displaying the desktop with a delay of 10-15 minutes. In this case, open the Task Manager window and enter services.msc in the command window and get into the Services window. We need to find the Application Readiness service - AppReadiness, go to the service properties and set the Startup Type to Disabled, reboot the device.

Removing faulty software (Antiviruses, crypto programs)

It happens that old and not updated versions of antiviruses (Avast, 360, Avira) and crypto programs (CryptoPro, VipNET) can cause Windows 10 to not load, showing a black screen. This software contains drivers that may cause a crash during system boot. In order to determine the error, go to Event Viewer - enter the command eventvwr. First, go to the Windows logs and open the System log, you need to find system errors with code 0x0000005 (access error), by the name of the faulty module, you can determine the application itself. The Application log is checked in the same way.
If you have decided on the application or you have guesses about the application that may be interfering, then call the Programs and Features window - appwiz.cpl, find the desired application and remove it, but it is better to use the removal tool from the software manufacturer’s website, it is guaranteed to remove the application and his "tails".

    Create a new profile

Sometimes the reason why Windows 10 does not start and displays a black screen may be that the main account profile is damaged. In order to create a new profile, open the task manager and in the command input line, check the box next to Create a task with administrator rights and enter cmd. A command line window will open, where you will need to enter the following commands.

    net user<имя_пользователя> <Ваш_пароль>/add
    net localgroup Administrators<имя_пользователя>/add

Then, log out of your account and log into your newly created profile.

    Have a great day!

One of the most unpleasant and, it must be said, completely non-standard situation is when a black screen appears out of the blue during an update or after an update of Windows 10. The reasons for this phenomenon are unclear to many. And users begin to panic and search for a solution. But don't despair. Even if you are experiencing a black screen after updating Windows 10, there is a solution. By the way, it is also suitable for those who updated the installed eighth version to “ten”. Let’s make a reservation right away: it’s not that simple, so be patient.

Why is there a black screen after updating Windows 10?

In general, this situation is quite non-standard, since there are completely different cases. For example, a black screen (with or without a cursor) may occur when updating Windows 7, 8 or subsequent modification of 8.1 to the tenth version. It can also be observed in an already running Windows 10 during or after its own updates.

Let's look at several reasons that may influence this. As a rule, there are several of them:

    • mismatch of previously installed video card drivers;
    • Explorer service failures;
    • Fast startup enabled;
    • re-licensing.

In addition, two more varieties are worth noting separately. Firstly, after upgrading to Windows 10, the black screen disappears after a while, and the system returns to normal. Secondly, the black screen “hangs” constantly, but the control elements (at least the keyboard) work. In principle, the solutions for almost all situations are generally the same. But let’s consider them based on the root causes (we are not talking about mechanical malfunctions of computer systems now).

Restoring the system using the standard method

So, after upgrading to Windows 10, there is a black screen and no reaction to loading the newly installed system. What to do? Naturally, the simplest solution may be to restore the system to its original operating system if you have an installation disk or bootable flash drive.

All this is simple when a disk or flash drive is available. And if they are not there, what then? Don't give up. There is a way out: you can remove the black screen after upgrading to Windows 10 using built-in tools, and at the same time return to the old system. This is all the more good because the G8, when updated to the tenth version, is not destroyed, but is, so to speak, in a deactivated state.

What will need to be done? First of all, we call the “Task Manager” using the standard three-finger combination Ctrl + Alt + Del, and then in it we create a new cmd task (launch command line) running as administrator. In the window that appears, write the line shutdown /r /o /f /t 00, followed by a reboot.

Now in the action selection window we use diagnostics, after which we select system recovery in the additional parameters. When the process is complete, the computer will reboot again, and then the old working system will appear in front of you.

Windows 10: how to fix black screen during update?

The above situation is not the only one of its kind. In this case, the decision concerned exactly when a black screen appears after upgrading to Windows 10. But what should you do if it occurs precisely during the update process? The reason for this, apparently, is outdated graphics accelerator drivers.

If you see a black screen when installing Windows 10, in principle, you can do the simplest thing, although it may seem barbaric to many. We force shutdown and reboot the terminal or laptop. When you restart, the system will check the hard drive for errors (maybe even and load the desktop.

To prevent this situation in the future, we update the video card drivers. This can be done from the “Device Manager”, but if you have some utility like Driver Booster at hand, even better, because the driver will be downloaded from the manufacturer’s official website (and not only for the graphics chip, but also for all other devices that need in driver update) and then automatically integrated into the system. After this, you can try to install Windows 10 again.

    Entering Safe Mode

All this related to the fact that it was after upgrading to Windows 10 that the black screen was the result of system failures or conflicts with drivers. But what to do if the installation of “ten” seemed to be successful? And suddenly the cursor appears before the user’s eyes, but the system does not want to start, although the initial boot process clearly indicated that the system was trying to work?

It's not that simple. If you have an installation disk, there will be no problems. We perform the sequence as shown below (transitions from the diagnostic menu):

Otherwise you will need secure login mode. But problems arise with him. The fact is that the standard pressing of the F8 key when starting Windows in the tenth version does not work (why it had to be removed is still unclear). However, not on all devices, but sometimes pressing F8 10-20 times while holding down the Shift key works.

In the next window, click on the continuation line and, finally, in the boot options window, press the F4 key (safe mode). Next comes a reboot, the system boots into safe mode.

How to restore your system in safe mode

In principle, even if “ten” was installed, you can easily return to the old system, however, with one caveat: if the user did not delete the files of the previous “OS”. Otherwise, nothing will work.

This can be done in the security and recovery section, where there is a special link to return to the previous system. That's all. The process will complete automatically, followed by a restart with the previously installed “seven” or “eight”.

If you need to restore the “top ten” itself after its own update, you need to type the command sfc /scannnow on the command line (even at the boot stage) and press the enter key (the process of scanning and restoring system files is activated). The process can be quite lengthy, so you will have to be patient. You can reboot the system and check its functionality using the command shutdown -t 0 -r -f.

But when entering safe mode, you can simply activate the recovery process and select a checkpoint that preceded the occurrence of such a situation.

    Installing drivers and uninstalling updates

Another step that you can take when booting into safe mode relates to How to do this, which was described above, so there is no point in dwelling on this in detail.

As for the update packages that could cause this crash, you should go to the update center and look at the latest installed packages. The latest updates should be uninstalled, then a manual search for updates should be performed, and those that caused a critical failure should be excluded from the list. In principle, automatic updates can be disabled altogether. Windows doesn't recommend doing this, but there's nothing wrong with it. Updates mostly concern the security system, office applications, and only sometimes drivers. But if the user has the same Driver Booster package, the drivers will be updated through it. In addition, the program itself will issue a notification about the need for an update (free version). The Pro version will generally update all drivers in the background. The user learns about this only from a message about successful installation.

    Starting the Explorer service manually

Let's consider another unpleasant situation when, instead of the expected start of the system, after loading Windows we have a black screen and a cursor (in some cases the cursor may be missing). The reason is a failure in the Explorer service, which was unable to load the Desktop. It will have to be launched manually.

We go to the “Task Manager”, as described above, after which we find the explorer.exe service in the process tree and forcefully terminate the process. Next, create a new task in the file menu and enter explorer.exe in the start line. If nothing happens, you can try to find the file yourself by clicking the browse button. As a rule, the file you are looking for is located in the Windows root directory on the system drive. This may partially solve the problem. As a last resort, we use the same safe mode and scan the system with recovery, as described above.

    Enabling Fast Launch

Safe mode is also good because it allows you to change some key parameters that affect the performance of the system. Here we are talking about the so-called quick start mode.

It is turned on from the power section in the standard “Control Panel”, where you first select the actions of the buttons, and then the unavailable parameters. Place a check mark next to the quick launch line, save the changes and reboot the system.

Getting rid of Windows Activation Technologies

Finally, one of the reasons may be reactivation. If the copy of Windows is licensed, there should be no problems, but sometimes the activation file is what causes trouble after upgrading to Windows 10. In this case, the black screen may “hang” constantly.

We use safe mode, in the folder properties we specify the display of hidden elements, after which we find the folder of the same name. As a rule, for 64-bit systems it is located directly in the system directory (C:\Windows), but for systems with 32-bit architecture it can be located in the System32 section, where you need to go first to the Tasks folder, then to Microsoft, and finally - Windows. We delete the folder with all its contents and reboot.

    Conclusion

So we looked at the main causes of failures after upgrading to Windows 10. A black screen is, of course, an unpleasant thing, but, as we see, it is possible to deal with this type of failure, even if it occurs in an already working system. Naturally, some of the above methods will be somewhat difficult for many users to understand or apply in practice, however, if you show a little patience, you can fix the problem yourself, and not run to some service center, and even pay money for it, even if small, but still these are material costs.
