In the Windows operating system, the set of icons for folders is, to put it mildly, too modest and practically does not change from version to version. But creative people create sets that delight the eye with their creativity. Another question is where to download icons for folders and how to install them? This is what we will talk about now.

Some of you will ask, what are these icons for? I don’t know about you, but I like it when a folder doesn’t look boring, and what’s in it can be determined by its appearance. Moreover, such decoration does not load the system.

The Internet is full of sites where many sets of icons for folders are posted. But they are not always beautiful, and most importantly, they are safe for the operating system, because... Often they are posted by people who simply slammed them from somewhere and uploaded them to their account.

They don’t care at all that in this set, during the transfer from one account to another, all sorts of “bugs” and a bunch of other delights could appear, because some of them deliberately plant them there.

Personally, I download icons from trusted sites where people value their reputation, and create such sets themselves. One of these people is Oleg Nakroshaev, a master of Photoshop. On his website you can not only learn how to use this program, but also download ready-made sets of tools.

Where to put the folder with icons

After we have downloaded the icons, open the folder “ Computer" (in Windows 7), " My computer" (in Windows XP) or " This computer"(in Windows 10), and go to " Disk C:" - folder Windows– folder System32 –

Open the folder System32.

Open the archive with icons, or unpack it (whichever you prefer).

You can open and see the icons. There are 316 of them there.

Copy the folder " 3d icons in ico format"and paste the entire folder into the folder System32.

Now close all folders and move on to the next step.

Installing an icon on a folder

Select the folder where you want to install the icon, right-click on it, and select the item in the drop-down context menu at the very bottom Properties.

In the properties window, go to the tab Settings and in the block Folder icons click on the button Change icon.

In the next window, click the button Review.

The folder will open System32. We find our folder in it “ 3d icons in ico format"(it will be located at the very top) and open it.

Select the icon you like, double-click on it or select it and click the button at the bottom Open.

In the next window, click the button OK.

And in the last window we press the buttons Apply And OK.

Next time you have a button Review This folder will open immediately.

Installing an icon on a shortcut

To better optimize the system, some users (including me) display not folders on the desktop, but only their shortcuts.

If on your desktop there are not folders, but their shortcuts, then right-click on the shortcut and select from the list Properties.

In the window that opens, on the tab Label Find the button below Change icon.." and click on it.

The remaining steps are the same as described above.

P.S. I don’t know why, but one or another type of the selected icon is not always saved immediately. Sometimes it takes some time.

On labels, the icon often does not change at all. You must first replace the icon on the folder, and then create a new shortcut and copy it to the desktop.
